    Speaking as a general guy who used to be into photography back in the days of film, I have a love-hate relationship with my Mk4. I love what it can do, but in truth it often stays at home, for while it is indeed like a whole camera bag of tricks, it remains a pretty heavy and bulky item to lug around. It's true to say though that when I DO take it along, I get more serious about my photos, making more effort with composition, waiting for or grabbing good light, and generally end up with a fistful of "I really like that" photos. Ironically the camera I regret the most is arguably more practical, my RX100 Mk6. That's much smaller, with a reasonable zoom and the same sensor. In truth though, I find myself resenting the weight and delicate nature of that thing, especially considering how good some phone cameras are. In contrast the RX10's bigger relative size and weight are forgivable, as it puts me in the mood for photography, rather than snapshots on my Samsung phone. Another fun aspect, it's easy to get people to pose, because it's a 'real camera' (irony, as 'real' photographers would perhaps sneer?). So yeah, it's too big, too heavy and not even a "real DSLR" - but it's a truly pleasant experience to use, captures great shots and a new year resolution for 2024 will be to use it more often, along with my drone, MTB cycle and my boat. It's easy to chase the latest thing and forget what wonders you already have, and I'm old enough to appreciate what a marvel the RX10 is. The sensor is every bit as clear if not clearer than any 35mm film, and it's all-round superior to my (film) Canon EOS10, and I absolutely loved that thing.

    RX10 IV, almost 6 years old and still is an amazing camera capable of taking great pictures in a variety of situations, a true Jack of all trades . A plus for IV vs III is the faster phase detection focus. In 2019 2.0 firmware added Animal Eye AF for some extra value. :)
    I would really love to see this year a RX10 V with the same superb sharp and bright lens, all the latest subject recognition algorithms, a new sensor (more mega pixels maybe), IBIS, a bigger battery, USB C and fully articulated screen. Fully articulated, not articulated which I find very annoying, I prefer tilting.

      @@southwesternstudiosOG And it's very doable. It's very telling that in 2023 there are still enthusiasts and pros alike who love this 2017 camera and would like to see a (long overdue) Mark 5. I hope that Sony takes note. 😉

    I actually bought the RX10IV this year and agree 100% to the conclusion in Shaun’s video. For me the camera is almost perfect.
    If anything is left for improvement; it's not in the hardware and could be fixed in a firmware upgrade. For instance, I love to have automatic focus bracketing. Please, Sony!

    My only use for the RX10ii is the unlimited video record limit and rec709 needs for simple clients and they want a 4th simple camera like a wide lock-off or some podium thing the RX10ii is a perfect tiny camera for that use. FX3 FS7 and FX9 owner here. For "cheapo neighborhood videography band playing" I'll take the FX3 & 24-240mm plus the RX10ii and it's perfect for that. Micro usb power supply and it'll go forever.
    Can't look at the iii or iv because they aren't hack-able.

    What frustrates me with this camera is the range from about 10cm to 1m where you cannot zoom at all and have things in focus. You have to back off to about 1m then you can use the full zoom and focus. Either that or use macro, no zoom and practically have the lens touching the subject. Am I wrong about this?
    My favourite feature found nowhere else in consumer cameras is the high zoom coupled with high speed video, you can easily watch a bullet fly to its target.

    I hope they come up with mark V with their new Exmor T sensor technology, start from wider ultrawide focal length and 1:1 macro capability yet still retain to 600mm!
    By the way, are you looking for a new logo for your channel? I'm a freelance logo designer and I'm looking for more opportunities to craft a good logo! :-)

    what is your opinion about the rx10m2 in 2023? apart from the lens, is it still a camera to consider?

    • @southwesternstudiosOG
      @southwesternstudiosOG  Рік тому +1

      If you can find one for a fair bit lower price than the mark 3, the mark 2 is absolutely one to consider. Even more so if you do a lot of video, because of its constant aperture and built in ND. the image quality is great on both cameras though, nearly the same. Once you are used to that 600mm range though, it can be hard to go back lol

    • @christian.pereira
      @christian.pereira Рік тому

      @@southwesternstudiosOG 600mm doesn't interest me, 200mm suits me perfectly. the doubt is really the question of
      auto focus and final image quality. I already have an A7iii and I'm afraid the difference is too big.

    • @southwesternstudiosOG
      @southwesternstudiosOG  Рік тому

      @@christian.pereira considering the factors you mentioned, there is no reason to move from the A7III. Unfortunately the mark 2 is contrast detect autofocus, so it will be a step down from what you are used to. Regarding Image quality, Current A.I. denoise technology actually helps close the gap between the two, but at the end of the day, the A7III will still yield superior images. What I can say about the RX10II is that it would be a very good companion that you can keep in your car, and have access to high quality images that you wouldn't be able to get with your cell phone, in the instance that you didn't bring the A7III with you, if that makes any sense.

    • @christian.pereira

      @@southwesternstudiosOG I'm not looking for a replacement for the a7iii, just a camera that can make up for the absence of the a7iii with professional quality. I found an a6400 for around 1,100 dollars and the RX10ii for around 700 dollars
