    It is so helpful when you tell how long it took you to complete the painting. Because so many of the UA-cam videos are Timelapse, we can expect way too much of ourselves when we are trying the same techniques! And thank you for keeping your brushstrokes in real time. That is most helpful, as well.

      Thank you for this comment! It was a struggle for me to choose whether to speed up or keep the brushstrokes in real time. This comment has reassured me

    Yes you do make it look easy! I was sitting there amazed, watching you sculpt her face from nothing. Your initial color mixing and placement seems perfect. Just shows how good you are!!

      Exactly. And that’s what I really need to master. How to know the shapes and values when you look at a smooth reference. That is so hard. Don’t know if there’s a specific theory on how to do that or just a matter of observation skills.

      I like how she said “someone with more color mixing experience could probably do it faster” as if she’s not a color mixing genius!

    Hi, Ham. Just a suggestion if ever you dive back into Himi gouache again. Open all jelly cups and leave them to dry for three days. Once solid, they will no longer get molds and you can just reactivate them using water anyway.

    Oil paints have an "unctuousness" or "voluptuousness" about it...it's very, very lovely to work with... gouache as you said has more of a chalky, poster paint quality to it, depending upon its binding.

    I love that you share your struggles and weaknesses with us. Instead of making me feel that you don't know what you are doing exactly, it makes me feel that you understand that learning is a process. That you can't improve and grow without experimenting. You are so relatable, and your work is Amazing!!!

    It never ceases to amaze me to see someone paint the value of parts like the teeth or sclera/eye-whites accurately before the rest of the colors! I still need to have some kind of base flat tones before I can go back in with darker values and eventually build up to the more accurate values. This is incredible!

    This looks beautiful. You can cover the paper with paper or tape in the areas where you don’t want the splashes to go while you’re splashing. Also you can use white gouache and a clean brush to paint negatively and on those spots. Love your work. 😘

    For the HimI Miya mix in some isopropyl alcohol when you fist open and spritz once per week. I haven’t had mold issues since. Also try different papers such as coloured cardstock. And I highly recommend makeup brushes

    I am not an art student or anything, i just draw for fun but recently I wanted to get into oil painting. However its obviously more costly and messy and I am most of the time busy with college. Do you guys think trying gouache will give me a similar effect? Like will i get a hang of colour mixing and all that is very important for oil paint by practicing with gouache? (I tried it with watercolor which i think i am pretty good at but because i use such cheap materials, they get all muddy and chalky while mixing)

  • @sadepennbrook
    @sadepennbrook 2 роки тому

    Yea, I tried painting like this in sections. It was impossible. It requires you to have a good eye for detecting colors. I’m terrible at “seeing” color. I’d rather build it up by layering.
