This was the first and only NFL game I ever attended. I just wanted to see Barry in person. My dad and uncle took us kids to this game and we left after the 3rd quarter because they wanted to beat traffic. We then listened to the rest of the game on the radio as the carnage ensued. Most lions thing ever
I was 9 when this game was played. I remember seeing the score when the Redskins were getting blown out and going outside to play. When I came back in I was shocked to see the Skins won! #HTTR
This game sums up the frustration I had of the Lions in some of those 90s seasons. Had arguably the best RB of all time, some great talent on offense, and yet for whatever reason they just couldn't put a great team together.
Hard to believe that the Lions would get curbed stomped 45 to 0 the first game of the season at RFK the next season and then when they got to the NFC Championship they would only score 10 points.
They hold Washington on 4th down , and then proceeded to throw on all three downs ... Not using their best player Barry Sanders... Maybe they don't get the first down, but they eat up the clock...Piss poor coaching
Rutledge's performance in this game led Gibbs to give him the start the next week - and that game would turn out to be the infamous "Body Bag Game" in Philadelphia against the Eagles on Monday night. Rutledge would suffer a season-ending injury in it and never played again.
The week before the body bag game, Washington scored 41 points and had over 600 yards of offense The week after the body bag game, Washington put up 30+ against the Dome Patrol Saints
Chi wsnt considered a sb contender for ‘91 and can be said one reason is 38-21 loss @det in ‘90 unlike wsh in this game here which turned out to be nfc title prvw for that next season of ‘91

Lions had nice unis, should've left them alone.

I was 11 years old in 1970 and watched Tom Dempsey kick a then record 63 yard field goal to beat the Lion's. Been suffering ever since. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

They did have a great team in 91, they just happened to run into one of the greatest teams of all time in the NFC Championship game.
Poor coaching ....
@@robertsheetz4877 how lol they went to the nfc championship a year after this
Hey it's the Detriot Lions. They havent' been great since the days of Night Train Lane...
Yeah, We get it. But like someone else said.... this was Joe Gibbs era Redskins team they was playing.
If i recalled this game was the one before the body bag match

Jeff Rutledge had ice water in his veins
The Rutledge game lol...
Great game!
I was at this game. A big Redskins fan. I have the Detroit Free Press (11/05/1990) framed covering this game.
1:41:57 great play call by coach Gibbs
Thank you for the recap of the missing potion of the game.
15:49 Riggs looking young and spry..

Stan Humphries...good in SD, but man was he ever dumpster juice in DC...
I do believe had the Lions won this game they would made the playoffs.
ONE OF JOE GIBBS
GREATEST VICTORY
Stan Humphries started... he was more well known when he was the Chargers QB when they made a SB run in 1994.
The most yards ever allowed by an nfl team. The skins had 676 of them, against their punching bag, the lions
The skins always had trouble in this stadium!
20:20 Mayhew..
I went on this game and it was very entertaining but the Lions blew a big lead and lost in overtime.

Rutledge played in 1991 against the Pittsburgh Steelers and threw a TD pass to Ricky Sanders
I miss the smoke filled Silverdome!!!
How did the Lions finally beat the Redskins? Two words-Dan Snyder.
