@@lilac2698 that's right! english is not my native language, sorry :p
I grew up in a family of musicians. Both grandmas and my mom played piano. I was taken to recitals and symphonies with the best of the best performing. I’ve heard this played countless times, and it’s my favorite Chopin piece of all time.
In my almost 40 years on this Earth, I have never heard this performed so perfectly (esp the rubato timing). Incredible work, and thank you.
He does play this one very well which honestly caught me off guard as usually i find his phrasing to be pretty plain
I've always thought of this as the one I want played at my funeral. No prayers, no sermons, just this.
it was okay but kind of dragged on. I gather that was trendy in the day, but musically I think the best work kind of gets to the point sooner. Just my $.02 and not a pronuncement that means that much.
Glad someone else agrees! I've listened to the famous classics, like Zimmerman's and Rubinstein's recordings of the ballade 4, but this one is honestly my favorite by a significant margin.
Does anyone else listen to Rousseau every day while studying? His music is enjoyable on a different level! I have attempted to replicate his covers and his pure talent on the piano, but I can vouch that this man is simply a rare and exceptional talent. Congratulations to Rousseau, and don’t stop now
Well, no hate, but it isn't 'his' music. He just plays and covers old classical pieces
@@thecubingduck Yes but it's his skill playing it.
It’s been years since I was in school; however, I listen to his piano playing while preparing dinner, or while I’m sitting on my balcony, enjoying a cup of coffee and the Sunday newspaper.
@@probablynot1368 Yep that's how you do it.
@@thecubingduck I’m sure he improvises good pieces too, just because he plays others pieces doesn’t make him any less of a musician
I hate when people go around saying "Chopin is overrated!!" after only listening to one Nocturne by him. He's definitely one of the most favorite composers of all time if not the most favorite for me.
It depends, for example op 9 no 2 and fantasie Impromptu is overplayed
@@thetoughguy5831 I understand that, but considering all his other works too, I think he's an absolute genius.
Yep, if you consider his Ballades, Nocturnes, Sonatas, Scherzos you will definitely think twice before calling him overrated, the quality of his music is almost always consistently incredible, for the piano repertoire he is definitely at the top
Thanks.

Chopin’s ballades require much dedication to learn, one must have much determination to master it. The longest ballade among the 4, is 12 minutes long. The first theme undergoes four cumulative transformations and lot of decorations, while the development of 2nd theme heightens the music’s texture and complexity. Overall, an amazing masterpiece by Chopin, how a mere mortal created this, still makes me wonder 🥺🥺
It's even crazier how this was created in just about a year, it's amazing how he could create such things even tho he died very, very young.
This channel is a timeless gem on UA-cam. Even if he's ran his course on this platform, he's left us with a ton of great performances to enjoy! Endless replay value
I used to think Rousseau plays with a minimal amount of interpretation, just following exactly as the score says. This rendition just proved me wrong. Especially the coda. This interpretation of the 4th ballade coda gives me the chills like no other.

@@Dylonely42 Yes it was an AMAZING Coda!
unfortunately I don't think the fantasy would appeal to a lot of the youtube fanbase...
It's funny that you said "cohesive", because I was just debating someone the other day over whether Ballade No. 1 or No. 4 was the better piece. While No. 1 is amazing (and yes, I think it shines brighter than No. 4 in many places), and while every...single....one of the sections in it are amazing, they are not tied together quite as well as the pieces of No. 4. If that makes sense. In some ways, No. 1 is more of a rhapsody. No. 4 is indeed, by modern musical standards, more consistent thematically...more "cohesive".
I've come back to realize that Rousseau has been gone for sometime now. Rousseau, you are the reason I picked up my piano again and started learning on my own. You're the reason I can play Chopin Op 28 No. 4 and Gymnopedie No. 1. Just want you to know that you are an inspiration and I'm sure we all appreciate your talent and effort making these videos. I hope you're doing well Rousseau. Thank you so much and take care.

We don't know why Rousseau has been away. But regardless of whether he has lost interest in UA-cam or has some life circumstances to work out, I don't think he owes the world any more videos. He's probably spent countless hours recording classical and pop repertoire, and the least we could do is treasure it.
Edit: He’s back

It looks like he was using Concert Creator to make the visual of his videos. But Concert Creator is non longer available… that could explain why he is gone and why he may never come back…
@@thomasrieding8529 dang...
@@thomasrieding8529 I think the reason he stopped is that UA-cam has terrible copyright policies. Rousseau was getting copyright strikes for interpretations of pieces in the public domain because there were other interpretations on UA-cam and UA-cam basically acted as though those other interpretations were the original.

Because every day I can watch these videos and think to myself, I’m gonna play that one day. This really motivates me! And I just wanted to give an extra thanks to you because you gave me and tons of people extra motivation, and I know these pieces can take months to perfect, so doing that must be very stressful “just for UA-cam.” But never forget this isn’t just for UA-cam, it’s for millions of people you inspire. These months of work will turn into years, decades, of people playing these same pieces because of your help! If it weren’t for me writing this message while listening to this beautiful piece maybe I wouldn’t be teary eyed. Thank you, Rousseau!

Rousseau may be slow to upload but he really does put a lot of effort in perfecting the technique of any piece he plays. You can really feel the dedication behind those insanely smooth playings, he rarely trips in his playing, and he seriously has some of the smoothest scales I've ever heard. So I'm pretty sure each video he posts isn't the first video that he did on the piece, he probably recorded the piece multiple times until he finally gets a recording that's perfect. Also, not to mention his editing as well, a LOT of effort.

It would be great to see him play, but at the same time, if he was alive to show us a modern version of his music, we wouldn’t have the classical expressive versions and arrangements/styles in such a variety that we do today.
mine too🙂
I sure as hell dont. Ive seen images of what people look like when theyre 100+, its not pretty.
I am soo happy that i was inspired by this man. You are really a big inspiration for small youtubers 🙂
I used to procrastinate watching these. I was happy they came up every week, but I'd always say "I'll watch next week". If I had known, I'd have watched them all on upload. Stay well, piano lord.
The legend is back
This is such a beautiful piece, I am learning it at the moment and was hoping u would play it for 4 million. Played to perfection! Thank u Rousseau!
Rousseau I love to watch your videos and I m missing u so much when you will come back
RIP Rousseau. Maybe he’ll come back soon, hopefully at 5 million (almost there). Hopefully this video doesn’t go down as the last video.
RIP what, is rousseau dead?
@@EK-ey6qd no, I said he would hopefully come back at 5 mil. I don’t think he’s dead. I hope not.
@E K he died at a car accident
@@athaofficial4219 wait nah fr?
@@coolcaden26 no it's a joke
Car accident is pretty overused
So it's very obvious it's a joke
However car accidents are very common
The joke could also be a truth (I'm sorry I'm very negative)
Chopin was apparently in awe of the composers that came before him such as Mozart, Bach and Bellini and thought he could never be on their level in terms of musical ability but damn, if only he knew how good he really was. I'm sure if they heard him they'd agree that he is truly one of the best to ever live.
10:10 I completely lost it not gunna lie
I know, rousseau been taking a break. But hopefully he’ll post again, when he hit 5 millions subscribers..
hey @Rousseau, are you okay?
not meaning to be a jerk but I just haven't seen ya post in a while, and your piano is always something I look forward to. I don't use social media aside from UA-cam, so I hope you're doing alright wherever you are, I hope to see you upload again rather than dead channel
Go practice
@@kuayinghao8290 No u.
Ross is most likely waiting for 5m to do another special. But the second option is that he lost his account password again. We haven't heard from him since the last video, which is this one.
@@zah_old_acc yes u
@@kuayinghao8290 Funny haha.
My favorite piece of all time and one i hope to be able to play half as well as you do someday :) thanks for the amazing content Rousseau, we love you!
6:28 absolutely love how he separates the voices here as if it were a fugue. You can hear the Polish heroic melodies in the middle voice played by the right hand.
i love this piece thank you so much Rousseau❤️❤️
Pentagon , Hexagon , Heptagon , Rousseau is gone
