I hate when people go around saying "Chopin is overrated!!" after only listening to one Nocturne by him. He's definitely one of the most favorite composers of all time if not the most favorite for me.
Yep, if you consider his Ballades, Nocturnes, Sonatas, Scherzos you will definitely think twice before calling him overrated, the quality of his music is almost always consistently incredible, for the piano repertoire he is definitely at the top

Does anyone else listen to Rousseau every day while studying? His music is enjoyable on a different level! I have attempted to replicate his covers and his pure talent on the piano, but I can vouch that this man is simply a rare and exceptional talent. Congratulations to Rousseau, and don’t stop now
It’s been years since I was in school; however, I listen to his piano playing while preparing dinner, or while I’m sitting on my balcony, enjoying a cup of coffee and the Sunday newspaper.
I don’t think people understand that this man has already probably played his entire repertoire of piano pieces, and learning new ones, mastering them to the point of being able to post it onto UA-cam where millions will see it, takes months to learn. More so classical pieces. It’s the sad truth, but this’ll probably be how Rousseau will continue to upload
True! We don't appreciete his effort enough. More to be said among that is that he also does this insane editing on his videos. You can see the notes look like some particles coming out of his piano while playing. Looks awesome, it's a pleasure to look at!
I don't think non musicians understand that it is actually a blessing to be able to play as much as Rousseau can. At his current level, he can probably sight read very well, therefore, it will probably take him a day or two to learn an entire piece that could take a novice months.
This channel is a timeless gem on UA-cam. Even if he's ran his course on this platform, he's left us with a ton of great performances to enjoy! Endless replay value
I used to think Rousseau plays with a minimal amount of interpretation, just following exactly as the score says. This rendition just proved me wrong. Especially the coda. This interpretation of the 4th ballade coda gives me the chills like no other.
chopin's ballade no. 4, the best of all 4 ballades in my opinion. this is the most perfect pick for a subscriber special - this piece is so delicate, yet so dramatic, so emotional... the epitome of a romantic-era piece... so beautiful and sublime ❤ classical music is timeless, and it's a pity how so many people fail to realise how truly awesome and powerful it is..
i haven't heard anyone play those arpeggios in the coda with that speed and accuracy, this guys technique is impeccable. that being said i still prefer Traums interpretation
@@dankr7009 Zimmerman's 2 and 3 are my favorites of those, rly didn't like his 1 and 4 tho. Idk why, it was a long time ago that I gave them all a listen xd
Guys. He actually posted something in the community tab: One BILLION views!!!! This is one of the hardest milestones to believe, to think that these videos have reached so many people, is truly insane. Thank you to each and every one of you. Unfortunately, there won’t be a video to celebrate this milestone just yet, nor for Christmas this year, due to some sad life circumstances. Though, for now, I wish you all the very best for Christmas and the New Year, and I’ll see you all again soon enough. Hope that helps
Hey Rousseau, you inspired me a lot to play piano. Without you I wouldn't have found my passion for this instrument and music in general. Thank you for everything!
Chopin’s ballades require much dedication to learn, one must have much determination to master it. The longest ballade among the 4, is 12 minutes long. The first theme undergoes four cumulative transformations and lot of decorations, while the development of 2nd theme heightens the music’s texture and complexity. Overall, an amazing masterpiece by Chopin, how a mere mortal created this, still makes me wonder 🥺🥺
Rousseau hasn't posted in 13 months yet I just now subscribed. A truly timeless channel. The amount of talent that this guy has is ludicrous. I've played piano for 10+ years and I can't even imagine being able to play anywhere near this good. Perfect accuracy, and perfect emotion in his playing.
He's probably practicing for his next post, these pieces are difficult so they require months of intensive training.. (Even absent he is working for us)
He is most likely waiting for 5m to do another special. But the second option is that he lost his account password again. We haven't heard from him since the last video, which is this one.
One of the greatest solo piano works of all time. It seems like it has a little bit of everything and manages to weave it all into one cohesive composition. Lovely playing. Thanks for sharing! Fantasy in F minor would be the next big Chopin solo work I'd love to see.
@@Dylonely_9274 I don't think Rousseau's gonna post again. he literally posted ONLY 5 videos in WHOLE 2020. Yes I totally agree he posted a lot of videos in the past but I don't he's gonna come again like for a 2 or 3 months?
It's funny that you said "cohesive", because I was just debating someone the other day over whether Ballade No. 1 or No. 4 was the better piece. While No. 1 is amazing (and yes, I think it shines brighter than No. 4 in many places), and while every...single....one of the sections in it are amazing, they are not tied together quite as well as the pieces of No. 4. If that makes sense. In some ways, No. 1 is more of a rhapsody. No. 4 is indeed, by modern musical standards, more consistent thematically...more "cohesive".
That spotify account is an unverified account, which doesn't guarantee Rousseau is back. He has left YT due to personal reasons as per his Twitter post in Late December 2021, and there is no official notice about Rousseau continuing on Spotify, or any social media platform. His discord staff member are also unaware of why Rousseau left, and when will he be returning.

Rousseau you introduced me to classical music, I'll before be greatful to you for that. I've now been playing the piano for a year and it's hard to believe how much you changed my life. Thank you.
I've come back to realize that Rousseau has been gone for sometime now. Rousseau, you are the reason I picked up my piano again and started learning on my own. You're the reason I can play Chopin Op 28 No. 4 and Gymnopedie No. 1. Just want you to know that you are an inspiration and I'm sure we all appreciate your talent and effort making these videos. I hope you're doing well Rousseau. Thank you so much and take care.
This is his 4 Mil special video. He is now on he’s way to 5 Mil without uploading a single new video since this one. This truly shows his immense talent and skill. Wherever he may be and whatever he may do. No one else on the internet can play like this. The perfection, emotion and pauses… I can’t even express how inspiring he is, but I don’t need to either. The fact that he almost have 5 mil is the proof of what he gives to the world. I love you and miss you Rousseau! Wish you all the best this world has to give ❤
Rousseau!! I doubt you will see this but, I’ve been playing for about a year now, and looking back, without all of these videos you put up I probably wouldn’t have made nearly as much progress, maybe even quit. Because every day I can watch these videos and think to myself, I’m gonna play that one day. This really motivates me! And I just wanted to give an extra thanks to you because you gave me and tons of people extra motivation, and I know these pieces can take months to perfect, so doing that must be very stressful “just for UA-cam.” But never forget this isn’t just for UA-cam, it’s for millions of people you inspire. These months of work will turn into years, decades, of people playing these same pieces because of your help! If it weren’t for me writing this message while listening to this beautiful piece maybe I wouldn’t be teary eyed. Thank you, Rousseau!
Rousseau was one of the guys that encourage myself to create a channel to post me playing! Wherever you are I hope you're getting fun and enjoying everything you deserve! Thank you so much Rousseau!
I remember when 1 million special happened I stayed late in the office to watch it. And now it's Pandemic so I am watching this one from the comfort of my home.
I won't go without leaving my comment, I remember as if it was yesterday playing the piano in my school, waiting every week to be Thursday to listen to a Rousseau's new video. Thanks for being my inspiration for more than 2 years and you'll continue being it, congrats for the 4 million subscribers!
I miss Rousseau. The talent and level of playing that makes him the first recording I go to when searching a piano piece is what makes his channel a true treasure. Hope he comes back someday
According to his community tab, instagram, and twitter. He is going through some sad life circumstances. I think he will return at april or may and post a extremly hard piano piece
When I listen to Bach I see someone with culture, a man who fights against ignorance. When I listen to Mozart I see someone with natural talent, an indisputable genius. When I listen to Beethoven I see someone fearful, who fights against fate. But when I listen to Chopin... I see a tormented man, someone who suffers, and who through his works tries to comfort himself. As if with these melodies he was trying to tell himself that yes, that life is not fair, but giving up will not change anything, it will continue its course and it is better to continue. When I listen to Chopin I see myself.
Ever since I first heard this piece, I have always been in awe at the part of the coda past the point 10:57. I have no idea how someone could compose something that looks and sounds that chaotic but also sounds so orderly and beautiful. I can’t imagine how much of a genius you need to be to come up with something that complex.
In chaos the order is born. A classical law :) basics in the universe . Complex of simplicity and veery chaotic events making the beauty . Music in other side is one of the things what should keep that rythm (my opinion) to keep and express the beauty .
Rosseau, because of you, I have learned of the amazing art of classical music. I was a lifetime piano player, but always hated classical music, until you came and showed me how perfect and beautiful it is. A combination of perfect playing and unique pieces I haven’t heard before changed my life for the better. Because I fell in love with classical music so much, I decided to go to Carnegie Mellon music school, and learned “Liebesleid” after I heard it on your channel. I would’ve never made the decision to go to college for music if it wasn’t for you. Liebesleid is the song I will be auditioning with, and with all sincerity, thank you for bringing your talent into my life. You have changed my life for the better. I hope you know what you’ve done for us.
i love that theme at :38. This has always been one of my favorite Chopin works. Thanks for uploading everything you do! It really is appreciated by so many.
When I hear ballade I don't think of Ballade No 1 in G minor, I think Ballade No 4. I don't think of an extremely hard piece, I think of a piece that is extremely magical and expressive. I think of a masterpiece. Truly, Chopin's sets are something else. Don't even get me started with the Scherzos.
I love all 4 of the ballades. What I find interesting about this set is that all of them are so unique and all shine in their own way. I see the fourth as a beautiful story written in music, its probably the most emotional of the ballades but it couldn't match the 2nd ballade in dramaticism, and I feel like the 1st shows a much bigger range of sounds and colors the piano can produce.
Rousseau, we all really appreciate you and I really hope you are doing okay. The way you play reliefs my stress, I am happy that this community shows a lot of positivity.
it feels like it was just yesterday that he uploaded his 3 million subs special… man time flies! Congrats Rousseau, and go celebrate ☺️thank you being the biggest inspiration :)

I still remember my great grandmother used to play this piece for me and my brother. It was what gave her happiness in the later years of her life but she forgot how to play a few years before she died due to memory loss and we think that is why she got more and more tired untill she finally slept in and she is in a better place now. One of the most sublime and hypnotic pieces, my favourite Chopin ballade... Rousseau, you are an inspiration to so many, both musicians and non musicians!! Thank you for sharing the beauty of classical music. Congratulations on 4 million!
I can’t believe you’re at 4MIL already… It’s definitely been a few years since I first started listening/watching you, and it’s inspired me to become a better pianist! You have no idea how many times I listened to your performances while reading/studying, or even for pleasure. I’m so grateful that my musical preferences have led me to you. Here’s to an amazing performance yet again and to 4MIL!!! 🙌🏻❤️
bro i cant stop hearing it because it still in my mind and soo good beatiful romantic sad terrefying thank you rousseau u always play pieces 100% no mistakes
Chopin was apparently in awe of the composers that came before him such as Mozart, Bach and Bellini and thought he could never be on their level in terms of musical ability but damn, if only he knew how good he really was. I'm sure if they heard him they'd agree that he is truly one of the best to ever live.
Thank you so much for your time and hard work Rousseau. You've contributed to the lives of millions, including mine. Whether or not you ever return is of little consequence. You've left a legacy I'll always be grateful for.
It would be great to see him play, but at the same time, if he was alive to show us a modern version of his music, we wouldn’t have the classical expressive versions and arrangements/styles in such a variety that we do today.
I understand why you had choice this "Ballade" from the opus 52 of Chopin for your 4M ! It's by far my favorite Ballade and my favorite composer forever ! Thank you so much !
Doesn't matter if you see this or not, Rousseau, but I do want to say that I appreciate you so much for your gem of a channel. Your videos are truly beautiful, and I literally cannot imagine how many hours of practicing and editing goes into each one of them. Please don't feel pressured to keep uploading; do whatever the hell you want, man, because you've already given us so much :) Wishing you a happy holiday season from the US!!!
Rousseau may be slow to upload but he really does put a lot of effort in perfecting the technique of any piece he plays. You can really feel the dedication behind those insanely smooth playings, he rarely trips in his playing, and he seriously has some of the smoothest scales I've ever heard. So I'm pretty sure each video he posts isn't the first video that he did on the piece, he probably recorded the piece multiple times until he finally gets a recording that's perfect. Also, not to mention his editing as well, a LOT of effort.
Your playing and also with other pianists inspired me to play the piano. Whenever I'm lacking motivation I watch your videos, thank you. Congratulations on this impressive milestone! Rousseau!❤️
Easter eggs: 1: At 0:05. This piece begins with this C Major playing. And then that C Major playing returns at 10:38 which are chords this time. 2: At 0:34. This piece starts to go in F Minor. And then that F Minor playing returns at 7:47. 3: At 9:31. This piece makes a refrence to Chopin's "Fantasie Impromptu Op. 66." 4: At 9:38. These chords (may have) inspired Johann Strauss II to create his famous "Blue Danube." 5: At 10:11. This piece makes a refrence to Chopin's "Ocean" Etude Op. 25 No. 12. 6: At 11:07. This piece makes a refrence to Chopin's "Double Thirds" Etude Op. 25 No. 6.
I love the ocean etude section. It's my favorite part of the piece. Ocean etude is my favorite piano piece. It takes work to learn, but once you have it learnt it's really fun to play.

Does anyone else listen to Rousseau every day while studying? His music is enjoyable on a different level! I have attempted to replicate his covers and his pure talent on the piano, but I can vouch that this man is simply a rare and exceptional talent. Congratulations to Rousseau, and don’t stop now
Well, no hate, but it isn't 'his' music. He just plays and covers old classical pieces
@@thecubingduck Yes but it's his skill playing it.
It’s been years since I was in school; however, I listen to his piano playing while preparing dinner, or while I’m sitting on my balcony, enjoying a cup of coffee and the Sunday newspaper.
@@probablynot1368 Yep that's how you do it.
@@thecubingduck I’m sure he improvises good pieces too, just because he plays others pieces doesn’t make him any less of a musician
Well said.

True! We don't appreciete his effort enough. More to be said among that is that he also does this insane editing on his videos. You can see the notes look like some particles coming out of his piano while playing. Looks awesome, it's a pleasure to look at!
@@guin4356 yup !

It's even crazier how this was created in just about a year, it's amazing how he could create such things even tho he died very, very young.

When I hear ballade I don't think of Ballade No 1 in G minor, I think Ballade No 4. I don't think of an extremely hard piece, I think of a piece that is extremely magical and expressive. I think of a masterpiece. Truly, Chopin's sets are something else. Don't even get me started with the Scherzos.
ikr! no 4 is the best!
And no 4 is also the hardest by far
I love all 4 of the ballades. What I find interesting about this set is that all of them are so unique and all shine in their own way. I see the fourth as a beautiful story written in music, its probably the most emotional of the ballades but it couldn't match the 2nd ballade in dramaticism, and I feel like the 1st shows a much bigger range of sounds and colors the piano can produce.

PLEASE COME BACK ROUSSEAU we all miss ur beautiful piano play 😭😢
I think he’s learning new song to play for us
@@quirkaze it’s been 10 months he’s probably taking a break from UA-cam or something
He has said in his insta and in community posts that he is dealing with sad life circumstances.
The most understandable comment,thank you🙌👍
Because of you I want to play the piano now. Can’t afford a teacher but I’m really determined to work really hard on it myself and learn.
Rousseau!❤️
Goodbye Rousseau, appreciate the music over the years, thanks
25 No. 6.
6:17 sixths etude
@@creepergreen1162 Thanks. Sorry for the late reply
I love the ocean etude section. It's my favorite part of the piece. Ocean etude is my favorite piano piece. It takes work to learn, but once you have it learnt it's really fun to play.
@@DanielWilsonPiano BRUH I LITERALLY DELETED THIS COMMENT HOW DID YOU REPLY???
there's no reference to Impromptu op 66 here, just very nice melody line with very hard polyrhythms, way more difficult than that of the Impromptu
Can’t believe this is the last post on this channel. Spent months falling in love with this piece, now months learning it. 2/3rds through time wise, probably not even halfway difficulty wise though lol
Good Luck Dude, its a very difficult piece, Im sure you got this though!
We miss you brother. Hope all is well.
Okay but coda’s interpretation is a freaking masterpiece
You are a huge inspiration to me and my sister, if I hadn’t found out about your channel I would’ve never started playing the piano, you are an amazing pianist. Have an amazing day
Thank you for your beautiful playing, I'm 15 and have played for 7 years and I'm currently learning Saint-Saëns second concerto in G minor for a competition and listening to your music is really helping my dedication to practicing. Keep it up!
Oh my god, another Chopin with Rousseau’s hands on top. Wow 🤩
