Last of us actually pushed me to play guitar, I had my guitar sitting in the corner of my room and decided that this was the song I was going to learn after not playing for a while, it was the obvious choice bc it’s my favorite game
I've owned my guitar for almost 6 years and I've never had the urge to play it. TLOU REALLY made me want to learn to play because of Ellie and Joel. Sounds silly, but I am totally learning this song.
I just remembered how I was inspired by Ellie to pick up the guitar again in TLOU 2, and I came across your "Take On Me" tutorial -- so happy to see you do this song as well, Dave! And remember, folks, if Ellie can keep up with playing with barre chords in a post-apocalyptic world, so can you!!!
For me it was "Future Days" but I also learnt "Take on Me". I was very nervous to know that I cannot play Barre Chords that early but keeping it up with practice and now 3 years later I can play both songs.
YESSS!! Your channel is the one I always come to to learn songs and TLOU is the reason I wanted to learn guitar in the first place and I could never find a tutorial that gets this theme right until you finally swooped in with this beautiful version THANK YOU!
Idk if ur reading this but do take ur time, I have been playing for 2 years and only know 4 songs, granted they are very long and difficult ones, all of them are from this channel, and this one is no easy task, so if ur gonna try to learn it with no prior experience you either need to have nerves of steel and patience of a monk, orrrrrrr, you could learn other, easier, songs and after you got to feel the guitar and ur muscle memory is a lot better and if ur a real begginer, you need to get rid of the gorrila grip! I had it, almost everyone did, it s when u have your fingers pressed so hard on the fretboard that it looks like you are holding on for dear life, relax ur fingers, focus more on technique and placement, not power, always play on your fingertips, always hold it next to the fret (metal band), anyways I hope ur reading this and still on your way to learn guitar, and never give up, trust me I have spent way too many months not playing cuz I gave up but the moment I see somone play, or I force myself to play, my passion comes back, when the feeling you get when u play ur favorite song with your own giutar fingers and soul, it's just magical, hope this helped
@@nofacenocase4328 no, it would take me months to learn the song fully, and I have been playing fingerstyle (the style you need to know in the video) it takes lots of skill and dexterity, tho it might me hard, it is not impossible, you could try to learn it even as a true beginner but I warn you, it will take lots of time and patience to learn it, you need to learn the guitars neck, where all frets are and everything, and even tho it might seem easy enough, there are lots of little skill heavy segments, witch take time and practice, like I said in my last msg, learn easier and lower skill songs first then work your way up to this if you don't want to challange it and give up on guitar cuz it s too hard try it, but that is why most people quit, they take on harder songs than their current skill level, get frustrated and quit, if you want take it on tho I will be here ready to help you!
@@notyouraveragedreamrr9606 i learned one aswell that was harder. Not going to say this one isn't as good cuz its still great, but the one i learned sounded fuller but think it's cuz it had more use of the open E and A strings... wish I could remember where I learned it to begin with lol
Dude this is my first time trying a song with plucking patterns instead of strumming and I know that throughout the process of learning this I'm gonna wanna smash my guitar into pieces but I'm going to learn this bc I've been in love with the Last Of Us since 2013 and I've always loved the soundtrack
Had a hard time finding decently arranged sheet music for this. A lot of them online are incorrect or spinoffs. Kudos to keeping this a solid rendition of the original piece!
Dave, you're such a bro, man. You have singlehandedly taught me so many songs with absolute accuracy to the original material that I would never be able to repay you. I am so looking forward to trying this song when I have more time next month :)
YEEEESSSSSS PPLLEEEASSSEEE, i have yet to find a good fingerpicking guide to this song with the way troy baker plays it. All respect to the Cash version, but i like this one better tbh
I saw some of your videos a few years ago and learned a few songs with your help, but I never really vibed with the way you played things. I have to say though, when I listened to you play this, you gained every ounce of respect I have to give and made me appreciate you so much man. From some of your first videos to now, you have become quite an amazing guitarist and teacher, and I cant say how much I appreciate the detailed tutorials you put together for us. Subscribed! Much love man.
Honestly i already played the guitar for months before i knew abt tlou but hearing the soundtrack for tlou just sent me into a spiral of obsession with guitar ive always loved music and hearing something as beautiful as this made me start taking it more seriously now im overly obsessed
I appreciate how you break things down and give easy instructions with lots of demo! I'm going to pick up my guitar tonight and give this a try. Thank you.
Hey mate I have been watching your tutorials for about 6 months now and I really appreciate what you do and i learn more from you than my own private teachers thankyou so much for everything, wish you success in everything you do.
I used to play cello awhile back and I’ve had a guitar sitting in my room for three years now. After my bf mentioned he’d want to hear this song played, it’s finally given me the motivation to pick it up and learn!
Just read a similar post here but still feel like i need to say something. I was very inspired by TLOU 2 a very emotional game which hit home. When i finished the game it was lockdown so i picked up my old sisters guitar and started playing. I'm getting there and your lessons have been great i greatly appreciated it man you are the best. I love this game and this channel ❤
I looked on your channel yesterday for this song and today I got notification of it.... I feel glad and scary at the same but I'm so excited to learn it that I don't care and put myself straight into!!! Thanks so much dude
I bought your tab today. It doesn't seem too hard, but my level is not great. I will work on it, with efforts and time, I hope to succeed. Thanks Dave :)
I see a lot of people talking about a harder version of this song, and I think people are talking about AcousticTrench's version. However, this tutorial here is actually teaching you the exact same version, only without a lot of the flamenco strumming in that version. Basically, this tutorial is amazing, and allows you to have a solid base before you start trying to do far more insane flourishes to add more to the song. Baby steps, guys.
Thanks for the tutorial, Dave! I'm a huge fan of the games and looking forward to the show so this is exciting to me. Just learned Dust in the Wind using your video and looking forward to doing this as my second song.
I just got a brand new affinity series telecaster. My dream guitar. I’ve been a guitarist for a bit now, and I love it. I also love the last of us, so I am choosing to learn this as it is my new favorite rhythm, and my new favorite guitar to go with it.
Love this video. I think there might be a mistake in Section 3 (17:08). It seems like you are playing 7th fret on 3rd string but on the bottom there is 9th. Apologies if I am wrong
Thank you for this tutorial video, i was actually planning to learn the guitar too since im already good enough on playing the violin, im willing to try something new thank u sir
Dave thank you so much for providing so much free content… you truly teach it well. I have a request could you do a video on Ave Maria both versions Bach and Gonoud ? I will be forever grateful!! God bless

I have never played the guitar but today I found one in my attic its an old Takumi Luthier tc120 and its beautiful I spent about 45 minutes tuning it and now its tuned so now I ask, how hard is this song for someone who has only today touched a guitar. I have no experience with any instrument other than a tin whistle XD. I really want this to be the first song I learn, its such a melancholic song and it has inspired me to learn.
I'd say the first little part isn't too difficult at slow speed, but the rest of the song does get a lot more difficult. So don't be discouraged if you aren't able to learn the whole thing as a newbie!
@@GuitarZero2Hero Yeah I have managed to barely get the first three notes played in succession going slowly. I am a determined person and I love a good challenge. I will learn it in due time. I appreciate the reply mate!
