I’ve heard three versions of that story and this one is my favorite. I can practically see the kids jumping over the seat backs to scream at the speakerphone.
Pedro is such a great actor, like he is so funny and a goofball, but then he turns into this tough characters that you'd think never smiled in their life, what a talent
Fitting you say this, as I hadn't seen any Behind the Scenes stuff involving Pedro (of anything he's been in). So to see _him_ here, with *his own* personality.... really floored me, to see how different he is.
It's a bit surprising when I think about it, that a lot of actors I've enjoyed watching over the years, don't quite have such a massive drift between the characters and themselves. Going a bit beyond just "type casting", but where they're almost _not_ having to act. heh
This primary cast on this show, including Joel's daughter in the pilot, really have done an impressive job I think. In that these characters are genuinely being portrayed as people, *not* just characters.
I guess what I'm trying at is I've not experienced this sort of "realism" before in other shows, where the characters act exactly how you would expect them to in real life.... 🥴

Yea I think actors best roles are when they play someone who is completely opposite to them. Pedro kills this role and mandalorian

@@DUKE_of_RAMBLE I get what you mean 100%. What they've done is amazing, all the actors made their characters feel so real that whenever something horrible happens it hurts ten times more. The raw emotions they portray are brilliant, specially Pedro and Bella. I seriously couldn't be happier with this adaptation

Seeing the trust that Bella has with these men is quite beautiful. It's great to get the sense that she was protected on this project, hope more actresses and actors feel this way with every project they do.
If she didn't have confidence in herself and is asking why did you cast me that seems very strange. I see people saying they cast the best actor for this role. When she's talking about needing the cast and crew around her to tell her she's done well that doesn't sound to me like they cast the best actor. And like others have stated, she does not resemble Ellie at all. Looks nothing like her.

Bella is nineteen years old. Maybe like all of us, she needs some reassurance. Especially because she's probably very aware of the backlash her casting received. Anyone would feel insecure after that. She is Ellie. Just because she doesn't look like the game version, who cares. She played Ellie with the spirit, tenacity and vulnerability that was portrayed by Ashley in the games.

@@roboninja3194 that’s not strange at all. Actors have anxiety and nervousness to a role despite auditioning for them because they’re scared if they’ll be great for the role/show/film to entertain the audience and let alone, like this project, please the fans. Also they’re human
Al Pacino denied and was nervous about The Godfather, insisted the role is too big for him. Then they convinced him and hired him. Warner Bros wanted to fired him, Coppola didn’t. So they shot the restaurant scene and Al was incredibly nervous shooting it. Look at him now
Also Bella may not look exactly like Ellie (who is?) but she does a phenomenal job acting like her! Her acting alone is phenomenal and her performance as Ellie is outstanding! Why judge on looks when the performance shows? To the point it makes her look like Ellie! Same goes for Austin Butler, no one will ever look like Elvis, but he acted like him that to the point he looks and feels like him!
Also casting is a gamble, not every casting director will cast the best actor. Everyone is different also they have to look at audition tapes and see if they’re good enough for it. Mistakes can happen. I’ve seen in theatre where the actors auditioned “good” for that small piece they were given, but once they were handed a more in depth script and character, they weren’t good at all. This on the other hand they casted wonderfully
Everyone talks about Bella and Pedro's relationship, but I think Craig and Bella have a really sweet one too. They're so obviously comfortable with each other. I feel bad thinking Bella was putting herself down 😔
child actors have it difficult with self confidence (she may be a young adult now, but she has been a child actor in GoT). And I'm sure TLOU gamers' reaction to her casting didn't do her any favors. But she crushed it so far and her innocent joy as well as her anger works even better here than in the game IMO
Bella has been through so much and she was in a better place once she got this role but then the hate started again. I don’t know how she got thought it this time but I’m glad she has Craig and Pedro now to guide her. I hope from now on she loves herself more bc she’s not only a great actor but a phenomenal human being. 🥺 Good or bad people will always talk. Live your best life Bella.
In one of the podcast episodes Craig describes Bella as like "an adopted daughter" to him, so it's safe to say they have an amazing bond.
Yeah it seems to me that Craig was a huge support for her getting through all the doubt and hate she'd been recieving.. just the last section with how she talked about trusting people and how Craig reacted was very wholesome, you can see this team really loved each other.
Hope they are looking after Bella. They suffered anorexia before due to stress.
Bella is such an incredible actress and seems like an absolute gem of a human!!

She blew me away with her performance as Ellie. She portrayed my favourite character so well. Her chemistry with Pedro as Joel was perfect. She played all the aspects of Ellie so well. Her optimism and enthusiasm. Her genuine hope and kindness. Her fear and sadness. Her anger and her grief. Bella is perfect for the role and she seems like a great person as well.

Pedro Pascal when he realized his daughter has been shot and he holds her and after he realizes she is gone, is some of the best acting i have ever seen! Just the look in his eyes, it couldn't have been easy for him to project himself to that place, his eyes just wide open and staring at nothing, you can see he is losing his mind
Pedro and Bella’s relationship is genuinely so wholesome. They really have an amazing bond 😍😍

After the first 1 episodes I'm convinced Bella ramsey is the perfect ellie. Idc what anyone think or say. The out lashed towards her for not looking like ellie was mind boggling.

Literally the first time I met her I was like omg you’re perfect for her. And now I’m in love with Bella.
There was doubt. When you ready story, you have an imgination. Like what would a white knight for u to be. Here we have a video game, which establishes what the character would look like and attitude. Which is a more challenging than an interpretation or adaptation from the book
@@brianmayabella5992 i mean i get that, of course its not gonna be perfect for everyone since everyone has a different iterations of live action Ellie in their imaginations. But I think it got a bit out of hand (maybe that’s just how fandom works lol) and the show hasn’t even aired at that time. People shouldn’t judge before they watch the show, at least give Bella a chance
She’s cast perfectly for the live action adaptation, but I still will always prefer Ashley Johnson’s version of the character.

I hope Bella is OK. Sometimes to me it seems they have anxiety or pretending to be happy (which Im guilty of). She is doing an amazing job. Hope they go on to many new things. Love them as Ellie.

Neil is after all the creator of the video game, directing a video game is different than him directing an ep and I knew he was going to be in this project coz it's his baby and creation :) when he directed ep 2, he did exactly as a video game
Bruce Straley had a huge impact on the first game. He never gets any credit and he's one of the big reasons why the first game so great. He wasn't involved with part 2 however and you can tell.

He's a great director and from what I've heard he gives amazing direction to actors and also listens and takes their opinions on scenes into account.
Still waiting for the day we’ll get a video like this except with Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey and Gabriel Luna sitting down and talking with Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Jeffery Pierce, the voice actors for their respective characters from the games. I would love to see each actors’ thoughts on the different takes on their characters

Neil gave us a captivating story in the games and it's hard not to fall in love with Joel and Ellie throughout the gameplay. Pedro and Bella are icing on the cake with the show. I need more of them. Thanks Sony and Naughty Dog.
Hopefully season 2…. Still has Ellie and Joel in it together for the majority of it… Second game divided the fan base heavily.
@@tommymc7535 True. However, it took me a long time to accept the story and that ending of the 2nd game. The way the show is going, it seems like they’re going to be sticking to the same storyline. I wouldn’t get my hopes up high as much as I love Pedro as Joel and want to see more of him in season 2.
It wasn't all Neil, Bruce had as much of a hand in the games story and writing I don't know why they are completely ignoring him
@@renytonger2875 I don't think they are ignoring him. It's more like Bruce kinda move on. He took a break for years of making games and then started a new studio.
We still don't know why he left ND, but I don't think it was on bad blood or anything. In Twitter he and Neil talk a little bit. So yeah who knows.
@@renytonger2875 Neil was the writer and creative director, so while Bruce contributed ideas to the story (just like others at ND), saying he had as much of a hand as Neil on it is unfair.
I love Craig. He has so much respect for the game and the fans. He's an amazing storyteller.

My boyfriend cried watching The Last of Us because he relieved the same emotions when he was playing the game. I love the series too. So full of emotions, so raw, so human. And I watched my bf play this game too so I also am happy to see that they give respect and justice to the source material. Love this so much.

I know one of the art directors on this show and they're absolutely correct about all the signage, he took screenshots of everything DIRECTLY from the game and reproduced them 1:1, THAT'S the level of commitment the crew has to this series, and I'm really hoping I get to work on season 2...

i really hope the success of this adaptation inspires future adaptation projects to also hire people who genuinely care and are passionate about the original source material, whether it’s a game or novel or comic. this tlou series has set the bar incredibly high, and shows not only is it possible to create an amazing adaptation, it shows how much love and support you gain when you respect the original source and your audience. i never want to witness and experience another heartbreak like henry cavill with witcher, that atla movie etc

i'm so proud of bella, they've been through a lot since the series were announced and hearing them say that made me sad, but i'm so happy that they know now how perfect they are for the role of ellie. they deserve all the recognition and praise for how well their acting is. bella is a star and i hope that no one ever makes them doubt themselves again♥

As an Albertan I can tell people soak in Albertan speech and slang just by the way they say Edmonton and Calgary. You don’t pronounce the second A and O in their names. They really embraced the locations they shot in and I’m so happy and proud to see places I’ve seen dozens of times on screen. It’s amazing to see what they can do to the environment with after effects and digital changes to the environment they shoot in. Seeing the Legislature in episode two was surreal to say the least. Thank you for showing the beauty of my province with the world.
So glad that this adaptation is as true to the game as we all hoped it would be.

It’s so heart-warming when you see how much they all care and want to make it good. So much emotion involved
This is the game of my life and I cannot express how much I love this adaptation. Never thought I'd be able to experience something similar to what the game made feel when I played it for the first time, but this show has managed to do that. I never expected it to be this good, I had high hopes but never thought it would exceed my expectations this much. I can't wait for part 2 of this interview, I can't get enough TLOU related content ❤️

Absolutely love every bit of content this show is squeezing out in addition to the show. From the bts after the credits from the first few episodes, to a podcast, and now this! Best way to experience the process and production of this masterpiece of a story through another lens.
This journey have been a blast and a emotional rollercoaster in the best sense. I congrats the producers of the show for giving the autonomy to the passionate people behind The Last Of Us, to take this show into their careful and loving hands.

I was a fan of the game because of gameplay reaction videos when the game first dropped. I was really intrigued by the storyline, and never thought there would be a live action adaptation. Really lovin' the show.
This is such a great team! Everyone has just such perfect chemistry & energy. And that translates on screen well. The Last of Us (Part 1 and 2) are some of my all-time favorite games. So I was beyond skeptical this show would work out. I just didn't think they could convey the same emotional response to this story and these characters, as the game did. Episode 1 erased that skepticism for me. That entire beginning scene with Joel, Tommy and Sarah trying to get out of town was so well done. Most of it shot for shot, with some additional information for the viewers to digest. Nico Parker was such a great choice for Sarah, btw. Her portrayal and her acting in that death scene brought the same emotional response it did in the game. Pedro exuded everything we love about Joel. And now, we have Bella stepping into the shoes of Ellie. She has that same precociousness that we came to love about Ellie, but Bella has made it her own. Although, I won't lie, I did envisioned Kaitlyn Dever playing the part. Nonetheless, it is working. And each episode is bringing familiarity, while at the same time fleshing out storylines and this world beyond the game. It has been emotional, well written, a masterclass in cinematography and a truly excellent adaptation so far. So glad this show is delivering because it is a story that deserves to be seen by people far beyond just the fans of the game.

Getting people who LOVE the game, is the reason this is so successful, if the actors don’t play the game that can be overcome IF the producers, directors, writers who shape the show and tell the actors what to do, watch the show it’ll be golden.

It's so wonderful to see not only the actors but the creators of the characters to understand them so well, to work on them and put their imput when needed and for the characters to be and grow according to what they are without having them feel fake or exaggerated. The Last of Us is some of the only piece of media I've seen that's been doing it so well.
What I love the most is that everyone I know has heard of The Last of Us regardless if they play games or not. This is hands down one of the best shown I have seen!
What a phenomenal achievement this show is. I'm a massive fan of the game and an even bigger fan of what you guys have managed to create for TV. Simply a masterpiece and the casting could not have been better.

It's awesome to see the close collaboration between the showrunner (who seems to really know and respect the source material), the actors and the other people behind the show on the one side and Naughty Dog and PlayStation on the other side. This is how you make a faithful adaptation that's still exciting and sometimes surprising for someone who already knows and loves the story like me.
I’m so happy that the game that means so much to me was adapted so well. The game helped me through a really tough time and it has become a very integral part of my life. When I watched the show I was filled with joy. Thank you to Neil, Craig, Ashley, Troy, Bella, Pedro and everyone who worked on the games and the show. I cant state how well this show turned out or how much it emotionally impacted me just like the game did. I felt so much. So much joy and pride that my dad could see this story that means so much to me and that he loved it as someone who has never played the game before he got to experience the story and I’m so grateful for that. This show is created with such love and passion and you can tell how much everyone poured their heart and soul into the show and the game.

The most incredible thing for me is the level of emotions. Both 2 version match that level perfectly, yet very different in how the cast portrayed it.
7:00 took the words out of my mouth. I was SO nervous about the show when I heard it was announced. But it is amazing. They have done a fantastic job and have done my favourite game justice 100 times over.
