The camera is attached to the walls. They're on wheels and the crew are moving the whole room around. They attach the furniture to the walls so it moves with the walls then de-attach it to make it look like it's moving. Check out the making-of video. Very clever!
i said it then. i'll say it now. this is thee song of 1996. i got heavy into old school music at this point having given up on modern music and when this song came out, i was like "hold up." i didn't see this song coming at all.
The floor is stationery. The rest of the set is on wheels. So, it gives the effect that the floor is like a Conveyor Belt. With the addition of the fans in the one scene with the rest of the band, it fools your eyes to think the floor is moving when actually everything else is moving and the floor isn't. Genius Idea. They actually hinted at it in the video. If you notice, the walls don't go all the way down to the floor. There is a gap. That is why the Waterbug was seen crawling through the gap.
I remember being soooo excited about this album and playing it for my pianist (who is the head of Duke Ellington Orchestra) - and he looks at me and says -“uh huh- Stevie Wonder reborn..” lol. He was making the point that everything comes from something while having fun deflating my enthusiasm a little. Nothing at all wrong w borrowing a little from a good source. 😊 Great reaction as always! Love this album.
Ok, I could say this…. I remember the first time I heard this song, I saw the video as well and my mind was blown away with both (especially the video). Then I could not remember the name of the song or the artist for years, it was a late night video show. Although they both stayed on my mind. Now I know! Thanks for bringing it back.
Back before CGI was the preliminary for music videos everything was a physical set. The entire set here is basically made of a lightweight foam which makes it easy to roll around from the outside. Its a brilliant way to give the illusion that things and Mr. Jay Kay are moving in ways they shoudln't lol.
This video was waaaay ahead of it's time - you were correct. It changed everything and it was done pretty much on a budget which is what's so incredible, because Jamiroquai was signed to an independent U.K. label called "Talkin' Loud". Also - he had no idea what the director had planned and is just improvising all the way through! Our boy's a genius.
The budget was £150k in 1996, hardly a small amount! Equivalent to £320k today. The director originally wanted the floor to move, but it was done by moving the entire set to save money. The dance routine took 1 day to choreograph, then 1 day to shoot.
seems like a lot of people are reacting to this this week. here's what I told someone else re the video.... the parts where it looks like he's sliding... he's actually standing still or dancing, but the room is in fact what's moving. sorta like how they did the scene in the movie inception where they walk on the walls. the camera is afixed so you don't sense the room moving.... or the walls rather. also, I think he explained in some parts one couch is also afixed to the wall while the other is sittimg still in middle of the floor, or moving when it's shoved by the wall. watch it again and all this should make sense. cheers.
It's crazy how when you know how the sliding floor effect is done, you will now always see the room moving and the floor stationery, even if you try not to. Back when this song was released, everyone's WTF reaction to the video was just like Just Jammin's. 😂
@@helicoptersrkool ya. this came at a time when the internet was just starting to blow up, so it wasn't quite as easy to get the secrets out... but I think if i remember correctly jay kay explained video either on the show top gear (which he ruled the "lap in a reasonably priced car") or maybe it was graham norton's talk show. I forget. but this technic is pretty common in movie special effects too so someone would've exposed the videos secret of it wasn't jay kay himself. 🙃
This song and the music video has always been my favorite by Jamiroquai. When I was a teenager, I used to find the video so creative & mind blowing! Another video from the 80's was also intriguing to me.... (when I first saw it in the 90's) Song by: A-Ha Song name: Take On Me If you get a chance.... Please can you react to the music video (Official 4K remastered version) Song & Music Video is definitely a Timeless Classic!!
I'm really happy you reacted to the official video of this song. If you can, please check out the official video of Little L, also by Jamiroquai. You won't be disappointed.
I always thought it was pronounced jam-ear-o-coy but what do I know?! I am really laughing over your reaction to the bugs, cause I know the Louisiana brings all kinds of flying bugs, big bugs! I share your repulsion. It was great watching you take this one in. A favorite of mine. I am kind reliving of the excitement I felt when I first watched this through your reaction. Probably my favorite all time video but that is a tough one. It's TOP tier for me, song & video. I appreciate your thoughts about how they made it. And your taking the time to to research! since I can only hit the thumbs up once, I will just say that you are top tier JJ! ☮🕉☯♥oh and the lyrics are so thought provoking.
Love your reaction to this video! 🤗 Best part @ 5:07 Uhhh...🤔 You gotta a little leaks 👆🏾 A couple of leaks back there 👆🏾 (continues to point @ the leaks👆🏾) 😂😂 The walls... The couches.... Yeah.... Like whatever!! 🙄 Lol... 😆🤣🤣 Jamiroquai is over there stuck in 'Virtual Insanity'.... while you continue to observe the obvious -- 'Virtual Reality' 😂😂
My DUDE! My DUDE! This is like the DOPEST video I can ever think of in history. The only match is MAYBE the MJ Thriller video. Pharrell recently tried to break some kind of video record awhile ago with his "Happy" video but that can't even compare. Maybe some other commenter can mention a music video as great as this or one greater. Other than "Thriller" I can't think of one and I've seen HUNDREDS of music videos some of them really great and creative. I think there are a few accelerated time lapse videos that are visually interesting and creative but nothing on this level IMO. This video was a HUGE hit when the track came out and the TRACK was a hit at the time as well. Probably his biggest selling single but don't quote me on that. He has made plenty great tracks during his career. British dude heavy into funk/soul/new disco.
Regarding music videos, seen ‘Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar’? ua-cam.com/video/0S43IwBF0uM/v-deo.html All the images you see represent a beat/musical instrument or vocal. Pretty creative imo. They have some other decent videos and tracks too 👍🏼
‘The Prodigy - Smack my B*tch up’ is a great video too. MTV banned it though and you won’t find it on UA-cam due to the adult themes You will find it on the World Wide Web though if you search 🙌🏽
Can you Check out And react to Michael Franks- “Tell me all about it?” Natalie Cole also did An update on that song. Both versions-killer. But yeah this Jamiroquai is THE MAN And virtual insanity is my fav
He's ripped off too artists and gotten away with it. Mostly Gil Scott Heron. Thankfully inactive these days and an absolute nasty piece of work in real life.
There's a story behind how they made this video you should check it out it's actually pretty cool. And yes that floor is really moving those are not effects.

That'll learn me...gotta watch the whole video before commenting 😄
you beat me to it. 😀
The making of the video explains and when you watch it you'll end up saying "oh, it's so simple", but it's very creative.
I'll have to look up that video, I always thought they were moving the floor.
Always, assumed that the floor was moving
i said it then. i'll say it now. this is thee song of 1996. i got heavy into old school music at this point having given up on modern music and when this song came out, i was like "hold up." i didn't see this song coming at all.
This shit changed the game...
And proved that British dudes named "Jason" could be cool as shit, which I'm thankful for. 😎😎😎🤣
My father is american but his name is Jason lol
That album is amazing...you should check it out! Space cowboy and return of the Space Cowboy!
Yes! So glad you also reacted to this iconic video! Glazer is one of my fave directors.
One of the funkiest dudes ever. His flow is insane. His moves are one of a kind.
The message in this song and one great video.

Yup you said it correctly this was big that really introduced them to the USA I love this band

I remember when this video came out. Dope.🤩❤️🔥🤩
This video is ahead of OUR time
This video is such a classic!! You should check out 'Weapon Of Choice' offical video. Another classic of that time!
I've always been partial to the video for space cowboy... even tho the album version isn't my favourite song.... but it's still hawt.

Yes the video was ahead of its time it really was that was the big talk when it's video came out just about that
People offset were moving the couches and walls, but the camera was mounted on the front facing wall - that wall was the only one that didn't move
Other great songs by them...Canned Heat, Seven Days in Sunny June, LIttle L, Love Foolosophy, Cosmic Girl,
It was choreography on a moving floor.

you said the name right at the beginning of the video.
A retail store classic!

They have a video somewhere on the making of this video....pretty slick
What's funny is he reminds me of Oscar winner Sam Rockwell. What's even FUNNIER is that Rockwell could probably work these dance moves.
Jamiroquai the Northern Soul Man
Lisa Stanfield the Nothern Soul Woman
This was his biggest..Classic Music Video!!
Classic !
I love how 25 years later this video is still stumping people
All physical effects the floor moved.
Something about him does reminds me of Prince!
The floor is moving, it's amazing!
It’s the message for me.
I feel like NSYNC did something similar to this in their video Bye Bye Bye. I definitely have to watch the behind the scenes
Jason Kay. . .the Cat in the Hat!!
