Space Cowboy, Little L, Canned Heat, Alright, You Give Me Something, Love Foolosophy and so many more! One of the most underrated ever, outside of Britain anyway
This group’s first 3 albums are outstanding and pleasurable listening experiences. Check out “When You Gonna Learn”, “Return of the Space Cowboy”, and “Alright”
'Alright' was probably one of my favourites Cedric. Great call pal. An absolutely amazing tune when they played it live on stage too along with 'Cosmic Girl'.
A song ahead of its time talking about how everyone lives together virtually than physically. Also, Jamiroquai is one of the most underrated artist the world has ever seen.
I am absolutely gratified and impressed that you did the longer version with the musical interlude. I had to hunt for this version on CD. When you get a chance, watch the video.
It's the first time I've heard the longer version, and I don't really like it. The interlude sounds like a completely different song was inserted in the middle. But to each their own I guess.
It’s crazy hearing this song when you’re younger then coming back and really relating to the lyrics. They were making conscious dance floor music consistently *edit he got the idea for the living underground when he went overseas and everyone was underground at the clubs. And the streets were pretty deserted
Jamiroquai is almost like an honourary menber of the "intelligent dance music" scene that was also popular when Jamiroquai were at their peak. Music that moves your brain *and* your body.
Jamiroquai have been of my favorite bands for years. Besides the obvious hit singles I've always loved their deeper cuts, like Tallulah, Manifest Destiny, Butterfly, Falling, Spend a Lifetime, Vitamin, just to name some. They rarely miss imo.
Jamiroquai really are a band worth doing a deep dive into. Their second album in particular - The Return of the Space Cowboy - is a masterpiece and completely stands up now. The musicianship is OFF THE SCALE, and the bass playing - by the master that is Stuart Zander - has never been surpassed by anyone imho. IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND! The whole album is fire 🔥 but one of my favourites is Scam - would love to see you check that out.
You know it's funny. I've heard the song dozens of times and never actually listen to the lyrics until this video. The lyrics are way deeper than expected
Canned heat is one of their funkiest and driven songs. Virtual Insanity was their biggest hit i think because of the video. But they have way better stuff. Its a good starting point though.
he scats a bit in the live performance of 'scam' japan tour 1995 i'd love for yall to react to that performance it's amazing, jay kay's mother was a jazz singer so he know what he doing for sure and the band is definitely heavily influenced by stevie wonder
Actually there are many performances where he is scatting, for example 1999 Woodstock Travelling without moving outro is sick or Space Cowboy 1997 Brasil, Space Cowboy 1995 Montreux - Amazing and unique singer, I was lucky enough to see the band three times playing live
Jay Kay is a legend. Underrate front man, dude could sing, dance, had style and was an amazing live performer. There's this one concert I think in Italy where it rains the whole time, but he delivers anyway. Also, anyone who has not seen the video should, it's legit one of the great ones.
OMG! You guys finally did Jamiroquai! I've loved this band ever since i first heard them with that song you just listened to 😎 There hasn't been a single album from them i haven't liked. I feel that their earlier stuff is def more jazzier and the later albums have been funkier. But all good and solid! Prob my absolute fav from them is Blow Your Mind from their Emergency on Planet Earth album (full 8m31s version) with a close 2nd being Two Completely Different Things off their Rock Dust Light Star album. I really, really, really hope you guys do some more Jamiroquai songs! Long time veiwer of you guys and absolutely love your drive and passion!
Been a big fan of Jamiroquai for over a decade. Timeless sound. Their music will never got old. My favorite tracks are Space Cowboy and You give me something 👌
Jamiroquai "Travelling Without Moving" (1996 album): masterpiece. I also love heavy metal as some here have commented. It happens that generally those who like metal also like really good music, "sophisticated", regardless of the musical genre. Jamiroquai has other excellent records. A special band. I was at a very good concert by them here in Brazil (Free Jazz Festival in Rio de Janeiro) in the late 90s.
Jay Kay has a natural singing voice he got from his Mum who was a great singer herself. I think viewing his video or the concert from Verona will give you an idea of his talent because the man can dance while he sings and does it well. Enjoyed your reaction and I think you need to listen to more of his music because because he mixes it up a bit😊❤
@@bassage13 which is why every bassist does it...? very easy to say if you didn't create it. a line like this that seems basic and obvious is anything but. tone down the ego and you'll see that.
A good song from the late '90s and in rare case, the video actually helps to make the song better. Even friends who had zero musical taste and not a single note in their body liked this song.
Omg how come im now seein this ? I loved Jamiroquai as a kid and I reallly love this song & video! i loved the lead singer's voice, so soulful. Great review!
Loves me some Jamiroquai! I remember first seeing them on BET TV when I was in college in the late 90s (old man here) and I loved the video. It was from their second album "Return of the Space Cowboy", and the video was the title track. There was a cool stationary camera moving in a circle, and Jay was dancing around it, plus it showed the other members. Really cool music, and their videos have always been really cool. The video to this track is legendary! Really ground-breaking stuff. Thanks for sharing this!
p.s. The band really was amazing. Drummer Derrick McKenzie always had a super tight playing style that really grooved, and keyboardist Toby Smith always had some great ideas that got you humming. Bassist Stuart Zender was really great as well.
Funny enough, this is one of those songs where the video is more famous than the song even - one of the coolest music videos ever made. I would guess that very few have heard the full album version lol.
I still remember watching the video with the moving sofas and the janky dance moves on MTV and I knew immediately that this song will be one of my all time favorites.
Wow, you hit the nail on the head for my exact opinion of the length of the original vs. the video...the video snaps it off right at that little riff they do at the end and skips the breakdown, and it's perfect...it hits and leaves you wanting more rather than outstaying it's welcome...that can be such a fine line sometimes, and this is one time that the radio/video editors got it absolutely right.
You are the best channel at articulating what you Don't like and Do like about a song. I always I understand your position regardless of I disagree with your conclusion. Great work.
Jamiroqai is one of the greatest musical acts of the new millenium. :) This song represents a very dear part of my young life. The video of it is also insane - it redefined the medium in its time! Ryan, this is the song that introduced hubby to Jamiroquai, and he initially thought it was a Stevie song he had never heard before. Another great Jamiroquai song: Canned Heat. Which, if you've seen Napoleon Dynamite, you've heard, because it's the song he dances to at the end of the movie.
