I'm from Yemen, and these cars are everywhere. Especially that Yemen has a mountainous terrains and broken roads. The spec we get is the Gulf spec (aimed at Saudi Arabia, UAE and their neighbouring countries), and as far as i know it far better specs than the EU or US cars. Split into GX-R and VX-R. The GX-R and GX (sometimes you'd find a GX-m badge too with chucky mountain tyres and some are diesel. I think the UN uses this model variant a lot) come in the V6 4500 CC engine and has about 5 variations, but they generally had a sunroof, cloth interior, no hydraulic suspension and miss 1 or 2 of the electronic diff locks. While the VX-R would have full leather, sunroof, hydraulic suspension, electric diffs, and a 4700 CC V8. (It had many variations too), but the most surprising one I saw, was a 2001 VX-R V8 with cloth interior (not similar to the one in video), it didn't have the electric diffs, just the hydraulic and even the seats were manual unlike the majority of the VX-R model.
As a Texan expat working in Saudi Arabia, you can see these Land Cruiser everywhere. With so many varieties of interior options and powertrain options too. Even the newest models comes with the same expectations. I personally drove one of my Saudi friends 2019 Land Cruiser with cloth seats and manual transmission, differential lock that comes along with sunroof and other luxury options (it’s called V8 GX-R) The price tag of these Land Cruisers starts at $60k and up to $100k which is crazy but made it very handy to everyone. Thank you for the very informative video.
Cloth is for JDM as that type of cloth is considered high end than leather in Japan that's why you find it in most luxurious cars like the ls and century
The third generation Lexus RX also had a cloth interior. Its mentioned in forum posts and brochures but I cant find a photo anywhere for the life of me.
that dude took reallllly good care of the LC, like jus look at the body of the car, paint is in immaculate condition looks like it rolled outta the factory, props to the one owner dude
such a good find. grew up in a lx470. so interesting to see it with cloth. also, fun fact about there being an option to scrap the 3rd row and moonroof.
The seats might be a little dirty, but a similar leather LC with 300k the seats would be torn and trashed. Love the cloth can’t wait to see the cleaning
i noticed that US spec landcruiser 100s have only 1 trim level and the V8 , GCC spec cars come in many different combos, Straight 6, V8 , 5 spd manual or auto , locking diffs, steel/ aluminium wheels, split tailgate/ barn doors/ barn doors with spare tire / split tailgate with rear tire, standard front bench seats, rear troopy style seats etc etc.
This reminds me of the first two model years of the Lexus LS400, when you could get fabric interiors as well. Most cars got leather of course, but for the 1990 model year, you could order Gray Fabric, Blue Fabric, Burgundy Fabric, or Mauve Fabric. In 1991, only Gray Fabric was offered... and that was the final year that fabric was offered for the Lexus LS.
I remember seeing cloth interior when I worked at Lexus . No sunroof with cloth .it was a special order there was several Is football players they were too tall The sun roof was taking up space and they wanted cloth because it's cooler. I love the cloth interior in my 80 series I also have a 40 series it's vinyl.😉
Also without the sunroof it comes with an awesome storage setup on the ceiling so you can store six pairs of sunglasses, or maybe beef jerky or something.
Down here they were sold with crank windows, vinyl everything, manual, solid front, front bench and rear benches for a total of 10 occupants and power nothing
I think the cloth is the same type as on my 1999 Toyota Sienna XLE that I had for 16 years. Fabulous seats and I have to say they aged very well and looked almost as good as when new. I much prefer a high quality cloth, velour or even wool interior seats to leather as they are just more comfortable. Look forward to see your finished result.
The cloth interior does age very well! Also with cloth vs leather in the Texas heat, I am less likely to have a second degree burn after the interior of my car has reached the temperature of the sun.
Here in Georgia (country) Land Cruisers are very popular vehicles. The government and military use it. Lot's of businessmen too. As far as cloth interior goes, even right know the starting lowest option Land Cruiser 300 costs 52k$ and has a cloth interior.
Here in UAE we have a lot of land cruiser with different options starting with the G which is basic option ( 4.5 straight 6 cylinder engine, 5 speed manual transmission, manual window, no sunroof and you can have it with diesel engine) GX option same as G but with rear ac and power windows.. GXR is the top option in 6 cylinder engine and you can have it with auto gearbox.. VXR is the V8 engine (4.7) and you can have it with different options like leather or fabric seat, sun roof or with out, diff lock or with out, auto or manual plus all GCC cars comes with 2 fuel tank and 2 fuel filler one for the main tank and one for the spare tank and you can have 2 spare tires one hanging at rear and one under like U. S specification
I've got an Australian Delivered 105 Series GXL (80 Series solid axle front end) which has a cloth interior the truck has just hit 550,000 and the interior is perfect. The only difference I've noticed is that mine doesn't have the little arms on the side of the front seats otherwise there the exact same
We had cloth seats in our 80 series 100 series and our hilux , both our 80&100 had swinging rear doors and drop down army seats . I remember as a kid I’d bite the front seat and chew away the seat yes I was a weird kid lol
I have a GX470, and I am super tempted to see if I can swap all the seats with cloth seats from a similar Prado. I don't know if they even had them, so I need to look more into it.
I’ve seen people do that in some of the forums before, getting the parts would be the hardest part, but worth it! Someone also swapped over a bunch of Prado parts on a 2010 GX on cars and bids too.
Cloth interior 80s are very common in Japan. I have the 2015 70 Series Wagon and they all came in cloth. I think in other markets 70s can have cloth or vinyl, and maybe they have a leather package in the MEA region but not sure.
The 70 series is one of my all time favorite Land Cruisers. The newer ones like your 2015 are the best of both worlds: ruggedness and modern car reliability. I would love a diesel V8, wish we got those here!
@@thomasretzios the 1VD is mostly sold in Australia. It's too dirty/won't pass emissions in Japan. Even in MEA region, where petrol/gasoline is cheaper than water, they often prefer petrol/gasoline engine Land Cruisers over diesel (although both are sold of course.)
Apologies for the delay: I would recommend going on Autotempest or any of the online car websites and filter to land cruisers from 1998 to 1999. These were typically sold in the southwest/ Hawaii, so I would primarily focus there. Every week I would do this search and pull up every single 1998-1999 Land Cruiser for sale in the country and quickly look at the interior to eliminate the leather cars. Usually if it’s at a dealer they don’t know it is anything rare, and also the following on these is not big enough that there should be any price difference over a regular one. It is just hard to find them, I have only seen this one and a rebuilt title one for sale through my searching. If you find one, act fast!
If I'm not mistaken there was also an option to get the 100 series with a front live axle suspension, but it was only available in Australia, Middle East, and South Africa.
Good memory, that is known as the 105 series and is basically just a 100 with the live front axel and a very basic spec. The interiors are more durable and work oriented. A lot of them are in Australia.
@@thomasretzios the 105’s were available in all trim models between ’98 and ‘02, after that only the base model (barn doors, vinyl floors etc) lived on, sold along side the IFS 100 series
Wow, this is one fascinating vehicle, how did you manage to find it? Since so many of the Landcruisers sold were leather interiors, are there any leather components in the cloth one? (such as leather wrapped steering wheel, leather center console, body panels, etc.) Also, how much was the cloth package compared to the normal leather?
