Small correction for the first few minutes. Firstly, this was Actually Adjudicated in GIMP rather than MS Paint. Gimp is a little scuffed but it is far more powerfull than ms paint. (it actually has layers, for one) Secondly, this is actuallly my second adjudication, the first being a small 10 player variant I designed.
I should have done my research a little more first - I was speaking from memory which, uh, I'm not the best at :D Mad respect for creating and running it!
I had the "privilege" of watching this thing bloom from infancy into what it is now. Believe me when I say that Mr. Ronnec has many *many* more cursed games and diplo variants under his belt. I can safely say that there is no game developer more psychotic than Ronnec. Which is precisely why I am making another variant with him.
8:42 East Germany here, I was the first person to actually choose a country, and I looked at the map and saw all the same things that you guys were pointing out. Unfortunately this was my third ever game of diplomacy, and the other had just started days prior, so I had no idea what I was doing and was unable to successfully use the position to my advantage. Despite my failures, I would still completely agree that East Germany is the strongest power on the map.
Dear gods. I spent a solid minute zoomed in on my home page, just staring at the thumbnail and taking it in. I wasn't planning watching a Diplomacy video this evening but. Then I noticed Switzerland.
On the 7th day of christmas, i got from diplomacy 7 turkish homelands 6 austrian monarchies *5 italies!* 4 french realms 3 russian empires 2 German Reichs And a britain without colonies
i'm really enjoying the format of this video so far. Discussing this variant is more engaging than watching the unbalanced chaos that would no-doubt occur during the actual game.
Love this stuff. Hows your new flat/apartment going Cap? I enjoy Ezio's incredulous commentary and Cap's overflowing mirth and constant laughter. This is one of my favorite channels on YT and its always a joy to watch/listen when vids come out.
2:11:13 In standard Diplomacy Serbia borders 5 supply centers - Trieste / Budapest / Rumania / Bulgaria / Greece. Except Greece, all of those border 4 supply centers
First thing first, the map is an absolute crime against humanity And Secondly:this should had been uploaded on Christmas, y'know, a nice present for us all
Me being concerned at 13:39 until I realized that you meant six _in-game_ years lol I've never seen this "high seas" mechanic before, where did it come from?
What the hell Ronnec's variant got covered, I'm friends with that guy. I should have been apart of Seventh Day of Christmas I was just busy. I should probably sit down and finish up the Beyond the Ice Wall diplomacy variant he started... that's a project for future Nalkan tho
video idea: cap and ezio play anything BUT Mincraft for a Discord MP game night. Tabletop Simulator insanity, HOI4, EU4, Stellaris, Factorio, Civ 5/6; theres plenty of game night worthy stuff to pull Discord people from for streams.
I haven't watched the video yet, so Meme might cover this. I am Atalu, and this has to be up there with impdip as my favourite diplomacy game ive played. With this being a map that wasnt even supposed to be played, a lot of the players didnt take it too seriously (at least not seriously enough to read the rules.) Most of the Italies assumed the winner had to get a majority of the SCs, so we all teamed up to form a mega italy, with crystal as our sacred grounds 😂
I would have predicted East and West france to be better than north and south, because the opposite france is the easiest to coordinate with for mutual gain by 2 on 1ing one of the other frances as long as the 4th france is distracted by something external. And south france has reason to get entangled with italy and north has reasons to get entangled with austria and germany. It won't necessarily shake out that way every game, but i would expect it to be a tendency.
Oh boy, this is quite the variant to see as your first introduction to the game :D I guess it depends on whether you're looking to play or watch Diplomacy, primarily? And what kind of game you're looking to play. On this channel we don't have any rulebook introductions, although you can find a fair few on other channels just by searching on youtube, but it's relatively simple to pick up just by watching game commentaries if you're interested in doing so. If you want to go in that way, you can start with basically any video on this channel (Media Wars are good if you want super indepth gameplay, but those are ridiculously long). If you're looking for actual gameplay videos, I'd probably recommend watching Valefisk's playthrough here, which he does a good job of explaining throughout - ua-cam.com/video/vYPUs_FmNEQ/v-deo.html And then our detailed analysis of the same game: ua-cam.com/video/MKbEtzJxUSA/v-deo.html And if you're looking to play the game yourself, I'd highly recommend joining our discord server, which is in the video description!
@ cheers! I found a MCDM video where they explained diplomacy for use to build a dnd map of all things, but that was atleast someone explaining the basics. Ill give the media wars a go!
Please pick a game that is even remotely close to the primary demographic for people (30+ year olds) or stop spamming this EVERY video. It just wouldn't work. A co-op game or Discord multiplayer sesh could work.

god speed Ronnec, didn't expect this to actually get covered, I should probably mess around in the diplomacy more
small note, in case you didn't know. MS paint has layers.

Moooooooore! We desire more cursed Valefiskesque maps xD
Chaos diplomacy!!!
Mildly upset that Ronnec didn't use the Russias as an opportunity to reference that old St Petersburg / Petrograd / Leningrad joke.
could have made Lviv, Lvov, Lwow, Lemberg and Leopolis as separate cities
"This video went a little off the rails."
CaptainMeme, i am already watching the video, you don't have to sell it to me.
Ahem, Valefisk should play this
you could theoretically reduce the player cound by giving each player 2 or 4 powers
@@connermckeone4915sir that is a beautifully used way to make this mode even more cancer, and reduce the number that f players needed!
yes
33:52 "I mean this video is a nightmare for anyone with eyes" - Ezio

When I get a chance, I will make this
If you want to make your own map based on any part of this map, feel free -Ronnec (map creator)
2:06:00 Yes, not only are all the Turkish names and Bulgarias name's birds, they are actually all in the same family of bird as well.

Dear gods. I spent a solid minute zoomed in on my home page, just staring at the thumbnail and taking it in. I wasn't planning watching a Diplomacy video this evening but. Then I noticed Switzerland.
Which Switzerland? It feels like there's at least 3 but none have the rights to the name.
@@petemagnuson7357 To me, The Void looks the most like Switzerland. It's next to the Tyrolias, and it has that darker grey.

I was USSR in this, and this game was so cursed and I loved it
I was the sub for (Communist) England in this! Hello ally
"The Wheel" will return...
I really enjoy how this incredibly cursed map leads to some actually useful analysis by having multiple very similar but slightly different countries
I do think its worth watching the video for the creative naming of the oceans and countries. I also found the "void" territory very intriguing.
i'm really enjoying the format of this video so far. Discussing this variant is more engaging than watching the unbalanced chaos that would no-doubt occur during the actual game.
Valefisk, you know what to do.
The most cursed Diplomacy variant *so far* !
an important distinction to be fair lolol

The move's gone really well, thanks! And really glad you're enjoying :D
Finally a good diplomacy map
My first guess was gonna be that it was called Wheel Diplomacy
I love this. I want to see a full commentary on this
this variant goes unbelievably hard
this is so infuriating!!!! I'm definetly angry about these rankings, and not just boosting engagement!
Didn't even start the video, this has to be gold content. Cannot wait to watch it
Just when I thought it couldn't be more cursed, I learn it's played on a torus.
2:11:13 In standard Diplomacy Serbia borders 5 supply centers - Trieste / Budapest / Rumania / Bulgaria / Greece. Except Greece, all of those border 4 supply centers
And it's also a supply center itself! Serbia is an incredibly powerful space.

First thing first, the map is an absolute crime against humanity

I've never seen this "high seas" mechanic before, where did it come from?
it's in a few variants, but I got it from ImpDip
This is hideous. I love it so much
new diploseries, hell yeah

Adjudicating in MS paint might be the wildest diplomacy methodology I've ever heard of. Just hearing you say that made me feel a little sick
this is sadly not true, I adjudicated in GIMP, MS paint doesn't have layers so I'm not sure how that would have worked
Ms paint actually does have layers, if you're running the most updated version, so it wasn't too much of a stretch. Still horrifying either way
I haven’t watched the video yet, but I’m sure just the map will give me nightmares
Fairly certain 'Frankrijk' is Dutch and not German. In German France is 'Frankreich.'
Frankrijk is Dutch, Tzarfat is Hebrew, Wīwī is Maori.
@@connermckeone4915 Thank you! I was going to look that up otherwise. Speaking of the country names in this - what's 'Atalu'?

Tzarfat is the Hebrew name for France. It looks to me like Wīwī is just a pun on "Oui, oui". No idea about the fourth one; maybe Roman (Gaul)?
Amazingly Wīwī is both a pun on oui oui, AND an actual official name for france.
Algoritm sent me, do you have a playlist or anywhere you'd recommend one to start for getting into diplomacy
