Never played or watched this game before today and thus it was rather hard to follow.

I love that Italy's secession from the wheel essentially recreated the actual HRE-Italian relationship.
28:21 Technically it could be seen a tiny tiny bit meta for him to do that :)
Yooo NRB mentioned! Its where i got into watching BoTC and its great to see them doing well!
I really want to see Ezio play this!
Competitive gaslighters try casual gaslighting.
Really interersting and fun to watch! What bothered me the longer the vid went was that there was so much interrupting, I actually have a little headache now :s But that's no fault of the vid or the people in particular, ofc discussions get heated esp into the late game. What could benefit the upload itself would be including the revealed roles of everyone in the video discription. It is really fun to watch games like this absolutely clueless and guessing along, but it is also very fun to watch it with the roles revealed and seeing the playstyles play out! Also as an observer it would be nice to get the role-choices revealed at the end (like the order of persons the Poison did influence). You could message the players afterwards and blend in their answers in the very end of the video. [Not actual] SPOILERS: I'd very much like to see more of this and/or similar games, it was a nice variety!
Yeah, the cross talking, especially over the ST, was really frustrating :|
you read all of these dont you

SPOILERS Having only seen this one game of BotC, I feel so bad for Gamestar cause its clear they didnt know how impactful their role as Recluse could be for the entire game, especially when they gave their 3 for 3 round one as "Drunk, Ravenkeeper, and Fortuneteller". This game feels like a good demo of why Meme was insistent SneakySniper confirm their role as recluse later on.
Spoiler In my first game, I was recluse, and hid that I was recluse initially too... In my case it paid off because I got demon-killed on night 2, but I think in general it's the kind of strategy you think is great as a new player but very easily backfires on your team. I was a tad salty immediately after the game mostly because I thought Gamerstar had just been trolling, but when I heard his actual strategy, I don't blame him for the way this went. Even voting on Pika on D6 had pretty decent reasoning behind it (everyone thought Gamerstar was evil, so he felt he needed to look like he was teamed up with Sneky to get people to vote for them).
@@DiploStrats spoilers (and spoilers for Game of Thrones/ASOIAF) ahhhh, the Jaime Lannister character arc, a classic. Shunned by all but secretly good all along
“Early player elimination”- I’m looking at you, Diplomacy
Would like to see more of these. Nice to listing to in the background. Spoiler I did spot quite quickly how convenient the Salt - Dire situation was. Slayer didn't seem something you would reveal quickly, but he still did to a few people. After revealing it to you Dire was there quickly to back him up while GoI had suspect pings. Even better that they got Salt to use the 'slayer' ability on sneaky. Didn't mistrust sneaky at all till the blame of "your protection has been shit." The Spud kill was genious. I thought it was an imp self kill as well. Nice how the evil team managed to hid a baron while everyone was convinced there was not.
Spoiler And as you should have known: don't trust your archnemesis Salt ;) You are not Ezio who is best buddies with Salt. Dire being Ezio would have made it even more perfect.
Spoiler Re Dire/Salt, I definitely need to be more skeptical of things like that in future! I think I have some mafia-thinking stuck in my head that the evils are never going to defend one another that solidly because then if one is shown to be evil, the other is too... But that's not really the case in BOTC because roles aren't revealed on death. Towards the end I did get kind of fixated on the idea that Dire was the spy and had tried to get Salt's trust, which was why I trusted Salt so much. Which seems like a reasonable possibility too but I shouldn't have tunnelled so much on it!
Disagree with the sentiment at 1:08:00 that a win with fewer players is a greater accomplishment. I'd argue that a win with *more* players is a bigger accomplishment because getting people to willingly collaborate is harder than any tactics on the board!
spoilers never realised how infuriating this game is to watch if you catch something early on (and, as in this case, the format of the video reveals another of the evil team early on) that makes you certain you know at least one of the bad team, you watch him manipulating people in real time, and then even in instances the good guys don't fall for it outright, they STILL proceed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory at every possible turn lmao
Spoiler I'm curious what you mean by the video format revealing an evil player? It's something I haven't picked up on if so :D
@@DiploStrats spoiler I suppose it's still far from confirmation but it made me very sus.... in the video where you can go back and replay any part as many times as you like, it's very obvious that Dire and Salt immediately go into a chat together and spend a LONG time talking to each other. Similar to how you calling Tasnica into a chat was seen as immediately suspicious by the group And now that I'm watching it back, it's also interesting to note that sneaky and frog don't immediately talk to each other, but when they do the storyteller almost immeidately goes into their chat, and then dire joins them for a long while.
Omg i wonder who the imp is... rat rat rat rat rat rat rat
This was great, things got a bit heated by the end I hope nobody got angry.
Emotions definitely ran a bit high during the game, but there were no hard feelings after! And I think people are getting a bit better at keeping emotions in check with every game; it feels like a bit of an inexperience thing, so hopefully shouldn't be a problem in future.
Yeah, I would absolutely play with all of these players again! We had some good chats after.
Spoiler wall Damn, what a night 1. That 1 little drunk really really sowed so much chaos. And my shock at the end when Salt was the spy, honestly I should have expected it from the start. What an insanely well played evil team
SPOILER The one thing I called as a relatively experienced player is that Tasnica was good the whole time. He read very good to me early on, but mostly, there's the fact that he gave Librarian to you in his 3 for 3. That was the very first convo either of you had, meaning if he was the poisoner, he would have been pretty lucky to have found out that librarian was a bluff before ever being able to talk to the demon or the Spy. In a game on the bigger end like this, where most of the Townsfolk on the script are in play, that's really unlikely. I didn't know where that put Eldritch, but with how intent he was on solving the game, I figured he was good too. All in all, this was a pretty interesting game, but it was really frustrating for a lot of reasons. The stress in the later days was palpable, and that, combined with how everyone was so new, clearly led to the good team tripping up very badly. Seeing how well evil commanded the narrative was impressive, but also saddening, since a lot of that came from people just not knowing what can and can't happen mechanically. There were so many things said so casually this game that were just wrong, like the comment about the Scarlet Woman ability not activating on 5 alive (it can), or the onslaught of people who went up to you asking for your Ravenkeeper info, that I worry it was over from the start. It was cool to see how many niche interactions you all did pick up on, though. Noticing things like how the Spy can die to a Virgin makes it clear that people were keeping up and paying attention. Do you think you'll do more of these games? As someone who loves Clocktower (it's a tossup between it and Dip as my all-time favorite board game), I can attest that when people get better mechanical knowledge and general familiarity with the game, it gets a lot less volatile and a lot more fun. People get a lot better about things like talking over each other when they learn as a group. If you do play more, I'm almost tempted to try to get in one myself.
spoiler completely agree with what you said, there were so many times that they could've made a much better plan if everyone had known all the rules from the start. And they NEED to develop a proper protocol for sorting out votes quickly so that they're not panicking when they hear the bells and making terrible mistakes (like essentially throwing the game at the end there.... argh!!).
Spoiler I didn't even think about the fact that my conversation with Tasnica would have before they received any bluffs if they were the poisoner. I guess that's something that's always going to be pretty important to consider; your first conversation is always going to be a really key one - I wonder if I should have included Ravenkeeper in my 3 for 3 there then, given that even if I had identified Tasnica as town, I think they had no reason to consider me good. I do think there were quite a lot of kinda newbie mistakes here, and especially on the day where we were trying to get people to virgin-test we should have been paying more attention to people's reluctance to do so. And I definitely got the feeling during the later stages that emotions were running a bit high and people needed to calm down a little - hopefully that does change with experience! I'll absolutely be playing more of these - not sure we'll put many on the channel, because I don't want to flood out the Diplomacy content, but there will be at least a few more given the great response to this. You'd be more than welcome to join in future!
I'm been playing Blood on the Clocktower for over a year now, and am so glad that more people in the diplomacy people are playing it!
as a Canadian from Ontario, I respect the Leviathan roller coaster sponsership it's especially funny, because it's just one roller coaster, and not even the whole park!

i found this from RT game. loved it ever since.
This was my first time playing the game! Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that the events of the first day set off a huge domino effect that wouldn't be fully realized until the very end. It was definitely a roller coaster!

Bro watched NRB
Botc is one of the best versions of social deduction, cant recommend it enought
The degree to which Day 6 made me irrationally angry tells me I should never play this game.
It just seemed very uncomfortable, Love diplomacy and this kind of thing but it sucks when people get heated...
Yeahhh... Emotions were definitely running a bit high on that day, and it didn't help that the nominations process was a bit more chaotic than it should have been. I'm hoping that's moreso just due to inexperience though, hopefully we'll have it sorted for any more of these!
I am barely 23:40 into this and I definitely want to see more of this, especially more complicated rules setups: if you could get excerpts/gameplay of other players to splice in for multiple POV would be cool
Multiple povs is super interesting for this game, but from past experience I'm not great at editing that kind of thing. But the series on No Rolls Barred does this and I really can't recommend it enough, it's fantastic - especially the in-person ones!
@@DiploStrats Damn, well if you can convince others to record their gameplay I could easily think of some not too intrusive editing based purely off timestamps of Day X start, Night X start, when someone is nominated, when someone dies.. and then from there knowing who is what, you can cut between conversations during the Days, ideally focusing on people that you come into contact with who happened to be recording as well. For example: Let's say for all of Day 1 and Night 1, you are just following your POV. Whenever there's a moment that ended up either being a complete lie, or they're in the middle of being completely screwed (possibly that you even believe for ultimate irony). It wouldn't be that unreasonable to follow along at all, but I digress. The first time would be the most difficult. And depending on the game's direction and flow along with whoever you happened to play with that time, you can construct a metanarrative without having any sort of onscreen exposition.
as a forever storyteller for my group "sorry about the long night I had to dm everyone" is the most real thing ever
Ah hell yeah, I loved the good ole days of /v/ EpicMafia General that was hot for several months. Led to me enjoying it so much I ran a pretty complicated EpicMafia styled variant (Fool, Cop, Insane Cop, Doctor, etc) it was so fun.
SPOILER Ofcourse salt got the only character with a dagger

@@ulture Apologies
Yooo I love this. BotC is such a great game, it's been awesome to see it on the Yoggscast, RTGame and even the great Diplostrats. Someday I'll be able to play it myself instead of just watching it on youtube 😅
Awesome to see Smole Ne in your video. We have ArmAed together in the past.
Holy fuck yes, I DID NOT expect this from this channel, I’m glad this game is getting more attention
Absolutely amazing. I would adore more BotC on this channel, just because diplomacy and social deduction audience likely overlaps quite a bit. Its hard not to comment on the game itself (some things felt very obvious looking from the outside), but last thing i want is for someone to get comment spoiled :)
I'm super interested in comments about the gameplay and what other people picked up on that I didn't - you can avoid the Spoiler problem by starting your message as SPOILER and then adding five or so blank lines between that and your actual comment, then it gets pushed under the 'see more' (as I'm doing in this comment - warning, there are actual spoilers under here). I definitely picked up on a lot more that I should have noticed during the game while I was going through to edit it, although at that point I knew who to be looking out for. I think maybe my main issue was focusing too much on what certain corroborated info 'proved' (like the Washerwoman scan) and trusting that information far too much? The fact that I never really questioned whether Gamerstar could actually be the Recluse instead of being evil, especially given the Empath info, was pretty bad too. The bit that probably caused the worst gameplay from me was my read on Tasnica as the poisoner, but I'm not too upset about my play there - I don't really see a world in which assuming that was incorrect info was the play. It would require the investigator to be drunk/lying *and* Tas to have been poisoned, which did obviously turn out to be the case but feels like a super low % chance!
@@DiploStrats Spoilerspace incoming I think there are 2 important information points in the game. First one is Tasnica dying at night after you got executed. There is almost no world in which Tasnica is poisoner/evil in that kind of situation. The minimal assumption for me would be that Eldricht is either poisoned or drunk. My goto would be that he is drunk, making him 2nd outsider, making Baron reality a thing. I know that poisoning+drunk here is very low%, but Tas dying makes no sense in a world where Eldricht information is reliable. The bigger thing is Dire's (and to a lesser extent Sneaky, but his claim clears him a bit) reluctance to nominating Virgin claim. Dire as a spent role should have 0 incentive to not test virgin claim. Keeping revealed virgin not tested for such a long time makes nearly 0 sense for town and in the end making Mayor claim do it was very wrong. The most likely world is that DIre is evil+spy with washerwoman claim and they are either pocketing Salt (more likely) or just clearing evil (probably less likely, but is a reality here). I think town was in a very losing position from the very beginning and chaos created by Zargon early on made it nearly impossible to untangle. I also felt that godofincompetence information was somewhat discarded by town. It didnt help that they are a new player and didnt force things at any point, but that feels excusable here. Sneaky soft-claiming monk so early on, surviving for so long and never preventing any kill felt very evil (not imp-evil, but still evil).
I think yall might like Secret Hitler as well. its a board game that is fantastic to play and to watch. I Know there is an official version on tabletop simulator
I used to watch TotalBiscuit play this way back when - I think people actually play it pretty regularly on our server too. It might be something we do at some point!
