I came to this video today because as it happens, I just made a stupid and embarrassing mistake at work today. And I found it funny that my initial reaction after panicking was to try to cover it up, which of course, made things worse. I wish I had seen this before so I knew I had to first calm down and breath... Thank you
I missed work today because of a schedule oversight, and I really let my team at the hospital down. I feel awful and my bosses are understandably disappointed. I followed your advice, apologized to my team and told them I would make it up to them. I know this video is from six years ago, but I am so grateful that I came across it. A half hour ago I was in tears and now, well I think I'll be okay. I will go in to work tomorrow and I will move on. I also need to not be so hard on myself. Thank you for this.
Thank you for sharing because I feel extremely shitty right now, it's only been an hour from when I found out ugh I wish the feeling would go away and it was already solved.
The reality is that people look down on you. They talk behind you. They bullied you because you make a mistake. Some of them take this as an opportunity to ask for promotion. Also some bosses will fire you when you tell them you made a mistake.
I was emotional today after about three major mistakes. (I got emotional about the last one because I was like really? Again today?) i said I was so sorry because I had missed things over the last few days and he said it was ok. I wish I watched this video before. The rest of the day I kept to myself and really I was just angry at myself. I think I'm past recovery now...... Tomorrow I'm going to try to act like it never happened.
+EplusCequalsLUV You can still recover. You can still be professional and rebuild your relationship with the boss and control your emotions. Don't give up :)! Everyone is allowed to make mistakes. It's okay. He'll understand.
I was really upset about a mistake I made where I disappointed a client. What you said really helped. I had already apologized and now I'm going to prove to her that I will fix it. Thank you so much.
I know this video is so old, but I missed a shift today because I just hadn't put it on my calendar. it's such a stupid mistake and it made me incredibly anxious. this video helped me calm down and realize that I can only do so much right now, but that I can apologize and try to make it up to the people that were forced to cover for me.
Thank you - 8 hours after my mistake, this video, YOU made me realize I should send an email acknowledging my mistake and how I will recover/my solution going forward. I feel better, despite the toxic work environment and management which may not be swayed, but I know I have done what I intend to do to mend it.
They also monitor if you make the same mistakes time and again. Which is what I'm trying my best to overcome. But for me grammar and logicality in my writing, is a thing that's going to take time to overcome. I'm on a break (not forced by the company as that's a bad sign your about to be fired). But booked holidays, I'm going to overcome these mistakes by learning from others, seeing what they do right and compare. Going to try and mirror a few peoples writing techniques to overcome this problem of mine. The moment you start to let it effect your confidence, is the moment you make even more mistakes. Stay strong! Follow by example! Traits of a good leader!
+Divergence, What a great set of points you share here, thank you so much and you are right. I can't agree more with what you are saying! Good luck to you!!!
Thank you Farnoosh!! I’m so greatful I came across your content. You are sooo right. In my line of work I deal with regulatory auditors and now that I think back one of the first things they (the company) looks for is “did they hide something”. You are so right they don’t care about errors, they care about results and recovery time. And the error itself is an opportunity in disguise if handled correctly 👏🏻😊
Hi there, you're so very welcome. It's not so much that they don't care about errors; they care MORE about how we can recover because errors are imminent. We are human beings and we make mistakes, so it's always a great opportunity to turn an error into a great praise by what you do with it. Keep watching the videos and may you continue to thrive at work!
I make a mistake, and i believe that accept it is a right way to go further, but still i have a fear of not doing it, but there is a problem, if I want to work fast, mistakes happen, so I need to work slow and carefully I also mind my manager words, and think about that for many days
I really needed this...actually I'm 16 and made a huge mistake at work. I accidentally made a wrong deposit worth of $3000. My manager thankfully noticed it and I was able to correct it on time. Though she was cool with it and even laughed about it. I still can't move on from that. I keep getting thought like "how can you be so stupid " "what will your boss think of you now"...I feel terrible even though I apologize and thanked her many times
If your manager got over it, so can you. Be kind in how you talk to yourself. You made a mistake. That does not make you stupid. Just be more careful moving forward. Learn from it.
I am a student, but as a part time job, I am also teaching. I have a busy schedule. I had an exam today and since I was so anxious and worried about it, I missed a teaching class with a kid. I don't know why buy I didn't see it in my schedule stuck on the wall. I also had my phone turned off and the administrator had made thousands of calls with me. It'd one month I have started my job and I were late two times, and missed a class today. I just feel terrible, but your video and people's comments here really helped me. Something the bothers me, but still I think we have to do it is that we never talk to each other about our mistakes (at least people around me are so) and I feel I am being the only stupid guy and there is really something sever wrong with me.
I just made significant mistake today at work to my client and never felt so dumb. It's something that I supposed to know already but I forgot. Long story short I published information that shouldn't have been published. Felt really ashamed and stupid tho I already apologized 🥺
i ended up here coz i just made a mistake at work...thank u for the affirmation much needed. i did own up, told my boss and said sorry to her too...i dont know why Im can't seem to move on
I read my schedule wrong and didn't know I was supposed to come in today. I thought I was supposed to come in tomorrow.😔 I called my boss immediately and said I was sorry. It's going to go on my record now...
Thanks for the guidance. If you were not there for the help I was almost about to come up with excuses and made things even worse for me. I really feel relieved by making the right decision. Thanks again!
For me, workplace mistakes recovery occurs in the unemployment line. Other people at work can laugh it off as a "teachable moment," and move on. I'm not allowed to make mistakes. I'm always honest about it, which is why I am unemployable.
Tysm I made an unintentional mistake at work today. It’s my first job so I am still learning the basics, I kind of made the production slow bc I found out something was wrong and could ruin the reputation- I didn’t realize what ever I did will ruin the reputation. I got scolded by my manager which is kind of scary. I explained the best I could that i wasn’t slacking off but trying to fix a mistake I found which cost the production slow.
After the talk with my manager, I felt very bad and just overall didn’t speak to anyone but just focused on my work and my thoughts at the same time (which is bad). I was lowkey a little burnt out bc of my long shift, but I promise you, it was very unintentional.
Just now made a silly mistake in office and my onsite boss just screwed me up. :( but I politely accepted the mistake and gave assurance that the mistake won't repeat. I am really feeling too low. tring to be calm.
I made mistake due to too much work pressure which is coming out after 2 months..and I am been blamed for it every day..not one mistake but plenty...it's not a big mistake...but still management wants that not a single mistake should happen...everyday I sleep with a nightmare
Thank you so much for this. It's my first job and the second month into a new project. I mistakenly validated something I was requested to, but I was not intelligent enough to double check if I should have done that. Today I received an email where most of the heads of departments are on cc, pointing my mistake, and there is no way to undo what I just did . I really hope the repercussions are not to bad 💔
I just made a little mistake at work but I feel upset cuz the blamers made a big fuss about it. I still can not recover until now. It just happened 2 days ago.
Totally agree with the advice. But also, society has been programmed to NOT expect mistakes from others. This programming comes from school, when you were told the whole time that if you didn’t know the answer, didn’t pass the test or missed the homework , you were a failure but this is far from the truth. in a real world mistakes are made all the time so Instead we should learn how to handle as good as possible when someone around us makes a mistake. In my opinion, We should never feel disappointed about someone just because one day that person didn’t live up to your expectations. we are humans and we’re always going to make mistakes along this way called life. Im a business owner and when one of my workers does something wrong, instead of making him/her feel like im disappointed, I say comforting things to let them know we all going to work together to get through that situation as a team because at the end of the day that’s what we are; a team. And teams go through together in Good or bad situations. Team work is what really create success.
My life has come to this… I feel like I’m not allowed to make a mistake at my job. You have to be perfect. It’s very stressful. I made a mistake today and I know I’m going to get chewed out about it.
Everyone will makes mistakes no matter what. I have made quite a few in my life but that doesn't make you dumb if you didn't know about it. It just means you didn't know and that doesn't make you stupid.
What If there's no solution and the damage cannot be undone? I told my boss and coworker what happened but not all of it. I'm scared to tell the whole truth. And this kind of mistake happens often. I think I'm going to have to quit my job. :(
+Chantal Touchette I'm sorry you feel so bad. Yes there are sometimes mistakes that can cost you a job. That's true. But if you are holding information back, then that can cost more than the job so perhaps you can be more transparent. I wish you the best.

Other mistakes can be covered up but I did a mistake where my boss's company is financially penalized by another company to which we do business. This has affected company's relation, reputation as well as finance. I am very nervous for tomorrow. This is my 2nd month on my first job and my first mistake. I feel terrible.
@@fankrys People will say speak up to your boss directly but I will say if there are things that you can still do or try to cover up the mistake then first do that. And if everything fails speak to your boss. That night I couldnt sleep. I kept thinking about a way the whole night. Luckily I had a friend who worked on that company in the past. His relation was really good with everyone on that company so he went to that company the next day and convinced them on my behalf.
@@wildfellow9063 thanks for the advice. I appreciate other's experience on this matter. It's not something we talk about easily. when i make a mistake, i feel this is a huge deal, but in reality, i don't know how to evaluate how big a mistake it is or if the company even care. for example, the other day, i misread a demand and did a small 2-3 days work that was not actually demanded, it means waste of time. It would not appear so grave if it wasn't for the fact that managers are completely anal about spending more time than necessary on task. But then i have and have seen other spent double or triple the allowed time on some difficult task and nothing happen. Thus my sense of what's big or small mistake is completely out of whack.
I made a mistake as well, but it was a different type of mistake. I wore something that was deemed inappropriate to work. I had my shoulders out, which I did not think it was going offend anyone, was inappropriate, or was going to make the manager angry , but my manager said you have to wear a jacket. So I put on a jacket immediately after she said it. And even though I immediately did what she asked, Her entire attitude changed toward me even though we had a good relationship before that. Hours after that exchange, I asked her for help on something and she said, "No, you don't pull me." (With an attitude) Like whatever that supposed to mean. I guess what she meant was don't ask me for help. And I said OK because I didn't care at that point because to me I feel like if I did what you asked and you know I did not personally try to offend you, than to me at this point I don't care because it's getting to the point where it's just ridiculous now to be upset about something one time and so small especially after I did what you asked. sorry if so long :) thank you
+April Snow Goodness! Thanks for sharing April. You handled this SO PROFESSIONALLY. So good on you. But unfortunately, your manager is giving you an attitude. The only way to get past it is to have a 1:1 open conversation, which will be hard and maybe awkward but it's important to being able to have a good relationship. Hope you have the support you need here!!! Reach out if I can help you more.
I'm in accounting, and my work is not easy. If you forgot to charge your client, in the end of the day, you'll feel worse. Because losses of money can end up in thousands or even millions. Make my anxiety worse and when I think back that others make mistakes too, and some even become criminal or etc ... I smile and feel better. 😂 Because, mistakes happened.
Every month I always had a mistake. And I dont know my boss is pointing it out that "this is your 3rd time already" now I made a mistake again. I dont know how will I resolve this. And I think they just keep eyeing on me, on my mistakes. And one time he said "we will fire you then" since I cant guarantee them that I can find a transportation since they need to shift me to night shift. I was shocked, and I cried and will never forget what he said. It was like, I didnt do right any more to his company. Please enlighten me, my anxiety and my depression is killing me now. 😭 I dont know what to do.
What is your advice for people who are not able to grasp things quickly and take a longer time to learn, and who have lost multiple jobs due to not learning quickly? Is this due to a lack of confidence?
Arun kumar I hear you. I would say that it is OK not to grasp things quickly it is OK to learn at your own pace and what you really need to do is to be able to communicate that to your bosses and your managers when this happens so that they can have some more patience and understanding.
I made a mistake booking the Off-Campus Professor into opposite flight. Sadly, I'm in a vacation with my brother with no signal at all. It really caused me so much stress...How do I make things better?
@@prolificliving thank you for this. This has been the worst mistake I've done, I couldn't enjoy my vacation right now. I'll be back in the office by wednesday afternoon. My boss texted me she will have a meeting with me before she leaves for a trip. What would I do?
Erwin Daanoy it’s a tough situation.Tell her you are so sorry again and speak to her when you get back from the trip. Go enjoy the vacation now. It’ll be fine.
I've learned from my mistakes at work, but it doesn't mean I'm gonna forgive myself for them. I have reason to believe that my ASD makes me stand out and makes others perceive me a certain way. Do you know how often I said dumb things, like at work? I stupidly mentioned a man’s right to hit a woman for self-defense, and a new coworker proposed a new topic. And I know she doesn’t like me, because when I was casually chatting with a baker while waiting for the desserts, she entered and said “harassing the baker, John?” I asked why she thought that, and she said “Because you’re John.” Or how about the time I told a coworker (whom I didn’t think would resent this, since he’s clownish, snuck up on a guy, and once made a weight joke to him) “put a sock in your àss. I mean mouth.” Shockingly, he actually did resent that and told me I can’t speak to him that way. I didn’t intend harm; he had interrupted a question of mine to another worker to, if I remember correctly, playfully diss me. I guess I was annoyed with the clownish interruption, but I didn’t mean for it to be obvious. But when it was, I approached him and apologized. But he replied unfairly: “you’re good, man. You just need to learn how to speak to people.” Way to make an apologetic person who already feels bad feel worse, hypocrite A jocular dick giving me the lecture feels worse. In fact, he's actually quite popular and well-liked at work. I've seen him have fun and get along so well with my coworkers, while acting like I don't exist at all. We pass each other in the hall or wherever, and he doesn't speak to me. Of course, I'll admit that I started the silence, since his hypocritical rudeness that one time, but I don't know for sure if he's giving me the silent treatment or anything. Either way, I'd say I'm not on his "good buds to joke with" list. I know he likes my coworkers better than me. Just the concept of being ignored hurts, and it doesn't help when they show admiration for the guy whom I think is obnoxious. And that's not the worst part. I was taken to my boss's office with her and a high-ranking chef. The chef told me that I've been touching my coworkers too much. Not THAT type of touch, of course not! Just casual ones, like on arms or shoulders. I was always very outgoing at work. When I asked her if anyone reported a complaint, she said it didn't matter (so I guess yes). She told me that we need the workers to be comfortable in a good work environment; that I pretty much shouldn't talk about anything other than work and school (we're a university's catering service). That I shouldn't tell my stories because they may be inappropriate to my coworkers. Now yeah, I pretty much don't have a filter, and sometimes I guess I do say "inappropriate" stuff at work, but not _horribly nor intentionally._ I just like to joke around and have fun with people. I really didn't get specific information from the chef about what and who. She understands/ likes that I'm outgoing, but she made it sound risky and in need of limits, for good behavior and my coworkers' sake. And again, that I shouldn't touch their shoulders or arms without consent. But seriously, I'm not a creep or Joe Biden. I didn't mean to be so "handsy." I'm so embarrassed about the lecture. Have I really gone that far at work? I already hate being on the spectrum, and sometimes I actually hate myself.
I get that this might work with smaller mistakes that happen often buuut not so much for me who got scammed by a customer and it was totally my fault because I didn’t see the obvious red flags.. so the store lost money and in 2 hours I have to look my boss in the eyes and she’s probably gonna fire me.
kat Then I guess that’s that for you? Go get fired? How do you know whether this method won’t help you if you don’t try it? And what if you still alleviate your situation even if not solve it?

true
We are not perfect. All you want to do is accept what happened with a smile. It is not the end of the world.
Unfortunately this is the truth...
I made a stupid mistake today but I'm hopeful your advice will settle everything.
I was really upset about a mistake I made where I disappointed a client. What you said really helped. I had already apologized and now I'm going to prove to her that I will fix it. Thank you so much.
+Susan Horton Absolutely! Everyone makes mistakes. It's how we handle it that defines us! Good job Susan :)
Everyone makes mistakes at work. Learn how to make them work in your advantage :)!
Straight out of the gate. New job. First assigned task. Flubbed it. To quote the immortal Charlie Brown...AAARRRGGHH!!!
Best way to learn! From our own mistakes :)!
I have made a terrible mistake too. My boss says that his confidence over me is shaken. I m feeling better by hearing this
Thank you Farnoosh!!
I make a mistake, and i believe that accept it is a right way to go further, but still i have a fear of not doing it, but there is a problem, if I want to work fast, mistakes happen, so I need to work slow and carefully
I also mind my manager words, and think about that for many days
@@prolificliving Thank you so much...I needed that
I am a student, but as a part time job, I am also teaching.
I am safe. All is well and everything is going to work out for my highest good.
I just made significant mistake today at work to my client and never felt so dumb. It's something that I supposed to know already but I forgot. Long story short I published information that shouldn't have been published. Felt really ashamed and stupid tho I already apologized 🥺
i ended up here coz i just made a mistake at work...thank u for the affirmation much needed. i did own up, told my boss and said sorry to her too...i dont know why Im can't seem to move on
You're so great, Farnoush - thank you for taking the time to share your wisdom!
I am confused and curious as to what you mean by this?
I’m a new Banker and whenever I make mistake I want to run away my anxiety gets worse and worse
this made me feel better
Thank you so much for this. It's my first job and the second month into a new project. I mistakenly validated something I was requested to, but I was not intelligent enough to double check if I should have done that.
Today I received an email where most of the heads of departments are on cc, pointing my mistake, and there is no way to undo what I just did . I really hope the repercussions are not to bad 💔
I did something similar, I feel horrible. I’m new at job but the environment is appearing to see mistakes as opportunities to improve.
I just made a little mistake at work but I feel upset cuz the blamers made a big fuss about it. I still can not recover until now. It just happened 2 days ago.
Needed this because I've been having an off week and I'm getting so much anxiety from it.
Thanks you so much. This is very helpful to find myself where I went wrong. I will take the responsibility for my consequences.
You are very welcome! Thank you for the kind words. Zin Paing Aung
Goodness, how I needed this 😭

Well, it’s done. I hope you are working on making amends, as I share in the video, right now?
Made a mistake at my job and have practically been shunned by the mangers. So they keep putting me in the back now so I'm going to stick up for myself next shift.
The work is toxic
I am really sad and depressed and why the hell the error is happening to me every week.I literally cried many times and blamed myself.
Great video and thank you for saying you will talk to us in the next video because you definitely won't see us.
And everything is under control. I am taken steps to take care of it.
I really feel good now after listening to this video,I was super scared abt how I could face my boss tomorrow 🤧😥
6 months before You faced it. Today is my turn😣😣
Other mistakes can be covered up but I did a mistake where my boss's company is financially penalized by another company to which we do business. This has affected company's relation, reputation as well as finance. I am very nervous for tomorrow. This is my 2nd month on my first job and my first mistake. I feel terrible.
how did it turn out for you and your company?
@@prolificliving Thank you.
😂 Because, mistakes happened.
this is my problem now 😢 Now it seems they no longer have trust in me
I confirm that this way works!

Great advice
What is your advice for people who are not able to grasp things quickly and take a longer time to learn, and who have lost multiple jobs due to not learning quickly?
Is this due to a lack of confidence?
Arun kumar I hear you. I would say that it is OK not to grasp things quickly it is OK to learn at your own pace and what you really need to do is to be able to communicate that to your bosses and your managers when this happens so that they can have some more patience and understanding.
I have done mistake yesterday, its bcz of my negligence.
I made a mistake booking the Off-Campus Professor into opposite flight. Sadly, I'm in a vacation with my brother with no signal at all. It really caused me so much stress...How do I make things better?
Erwin Daanoy You need to apologize, admit your unintentional mistake and see what you can do to make things right with the prof!
@@prolificliving thank you for this. This has been the worst mistake I've done, I couldn't enjoy my vacation right now. I'll be back in the office by wednesday afternoon. My boss texted me she will have a meeting with me before she leaves for a trip. What would I do?

I've learned from my mistakes at work, but it doesn't mean I'm gonna forgive myself for them. I have reason to believe that my ASD makes me stand out and makes others perceive me a certain way. Do you know how often I said dumb things, like at work? I stupidly mentioned a man’s right to hit a woman for self-defense, and a new coworker proposed a new topic. And I know she doesn’t like me, because when I was casually chatting with a baker while waiting for the desserts, she entered and said “harassing the baker, John?” I asked why she thought that, and she said “Because you’re John.”
Or how about the time I told a coworker (whom I didn’t think would resent this, since he’s clownish, snuck up on a guy, and once made a weight joke to him) “put a sock in your àss. You just need to learn how to speak to people.” Way to make an apologetic person who already feels bad feel worse, hypocrite
A jocular dick giving me the lecture feels worse.
Im here cos I do t understand the system they use at work and no one is patient enuf to teach me.
Thank you.
What if that mistake is made for a duration of 3-4 months and after that time you get to know about it.
Great things... Thanks madam
