yep! been there done that and it was worth it. I think the one thing I would add to this video is make sure what you are committing to do are your priorities and not somebody else's. it's amazing how much of our time goes to other peoples asks when we haven't even gotten our priorities done yet.

Reversed my car into a tree on Wednesday. Because I was fatigued from doing a fraction of my old work load. Your intro mentioning chronic illness just stopped me in my tracks. I like the rule of doubling the time you think a task might take to make a more realistic plan but it also makes me wonder how Parkinson’s Law comes into play then too. How do you decipher when you’ve given yourself enough realistic time or simply filled an overcorrection?

Depends on your goals but having more time lets you decide when something is "done". Having more time might let you refine something and make it better than it wouold have been. Also, adjust your estimate for similar tasks over time if you're always out.

I wouldn't worry about the law, it was meant as satire after all, its holding you back from taking the first step. If you finish early make a note so if you face a similar issue in the future you can compare and decide if the outcome will be the same. Id you think you spent too much time, you can make a note of that too. Also, if you finish early, you can move on to the next task.

i appreciate that you mention illnesses and other things in the beginning. I have really bad depression and ADHD just tops it off. It's so hard to even do normal people things, imagine trying to do anything that will reap fruit in the future when you don't even give a f about future, cuz well, you wanna be gone. Everything feels so empty and meaningless and I never have energy, brainfog is also a (redactred). People brush that off as a laziness but only I know how many times I just sat with my tabled and felt numb then cried out of frustration.

As a former addict myself, I love what you're doing, and even though I've been clean for 5 years, got married, and had kids; I feel like I've been in a rut for the last year or so and not moving forward. I just recently discovered your channel and it seems to really be helping me get a grip on my aspirations and where I want to go in life. This video in particular seems very helpful given that 90% of my day is spent either working, picking up after my 2 year old, and of course spending time with the wife. I see this as the time management equivalent to a Dave Ramsey budget, that dude helped me get my finances together and when I put it all on paper I realized that I had about $300 of surplus money each month that I could be investing or saving instead of getting take out or buying new toys (tools, car mods, ect.). I hope that I can use the tips in this video to do something similar and be able to carve out a good hour or two after work to have time to do the things I want that could help me move forward in life

  • @JuliaRobyn14
    @JuliaRobyn14 3 роки тому +2

I like many have said down below really REALLY appreciate you acknowledging the disabled/chronic illness community and acknowledging that time management can be harder when you have unpredictability in your life.
Real life scenarios: Dr: ' now you have a chronic illness why don't you spend all that time you now have learning the guitar.'
A doctor over 2 years later, 'why don't you walk along the beach and pick up rubbish in your spare time to help your mental health.'
Answer to both, crippling pain and fatigue makes being alive hard enough thanks. XD
But also makes your understanding that it doesn't give you more usable time even more appreciated, as I don't often get it in my everyday life.

For me, living with a chronic illness and being a procrastinator, your advice on productivity definitely works for me too. I can't work for 16 hours a day but I can work within my own limits, I just need to have my priorities right and factor in rest, how much I can do on a good day, and how much on a bad. I also need to factor in more flexibility and learn to know my limits. Never promise things that are unrealistic in my situation and learn to say no. Some I do better at nowadays but being a procrastinator I liked the false deadline advice.

As a 53f with a 21yo son, I can confidently say.... there is NO perfect time to have a family. Life always gets in the way. Not that you have to make it a priority, but you may really may want to consider just ending any sort of contraception you're trying and... see what happens. Nowdays I hear about sooooo many couples that try 2, 3, ... 10 years before getting pregnant. WITH fertility treatments. So from an old woman I'll say... let your contraception methods expire, and let nature take its course. You're gonna have a hell of a lot of fun! And if your miracle happens, celebrate!!!! Best of luck, and may your angels watch over you both :)

You are by far one of my favorite self improvement UA-camrs. Honest, open and down to Earth. Helpful in a way that isn't intimidating. And very relatable. Thanks for your work.

This was great, I missed your happy face so much! And I’m glad that you have some time for YT now. I like the segment about priorities because some of my priorities compete with each other (same for everyone I’m sure) and I don’t know how to reconcile it. Managing my energy is one priority, but I have some other priorities that demand more resources than I feel like I have. I do have enough time for the other things I want so it’s not actually a time management problem; I feel like I’m constantly running out of gas so the down time to recover feels (to me) like it takes away from my other goals. Making downtime a priority is crucial for anyone, but the experience of needing more rest than I used to is uncomfortable. Not sure if that’s a topic you want to dive into but I’d love it if anyone else cares to comment.

You are honestly my biggest inspiration! Your videos motivate me constantly and I love your advice! In one of your videos you mentioned how motivation doesn’t just come to you (most times) you just have to DO IT and then the motivation comes! And I’ve been DOING IT! And it’s been working and I’ve been getting better and feeling more productive every day. Thank you for your videos I love listening to you speak and I love your art

My notes on the video if they're useful to anyone! Cam just makes such good points in all these video's that I felt the need to write them down!
**Why you feel like you never have enough time**
    - spin things in good way
    - break a project up into parts / steps
    - give deadlines to parts
    - getting it done is hard part
    - Mindset
    - Rules: just pick a deadline,
    - people overestimate what you can do in a day, underestimate what you can do in a year
    - double amount of time you think is going to take
    - keep free time for unexpected opportunities / flexibility
    - you have to deliver if you over-commit
    - Scheduling free time is important
    - Make yourself accountable to someone
    - If you say you don’t have time for something, it’s just not your priority
    - Make hierarchy of importance of things you want to do -> good for chaotic ambition
    - Why do you do the things you do?
    - peaks and valleys
    - need a reason to keep going
    - make the world a bit nicer
    - always compromise doing fun and less fun stuff

Okay, I’m a 40 year old married Texas lady (go ahead and judge) why in the world do I find your videos so inspiring? 1. I really appreciate your editing and the way you present your information; that is a two fold compliment, because the editing makes it all clear and concise, and your time in front of the camera/personality makes it very fun and relatable. 2. You always have solid ideas and advise 3. Everything is simply more fun when the graphics are fun. -This isn’t a joke, I really believe that graphics/font presentation have a huge role to play in our captivation, ever watch Mad Men? 4. Sincerity is genuine and felt through this crazy platform of UA-cam.

THANKS for being a superbly real human! Something that you probably already talked about in your future videos is the relationship between time & energy: Chaotic energy happens with procrastination and the ensuing panic to get it done; contrasted with Calm-Confident energy of prioritising and planning. It's a constant tug o' war in my world, so yeah, I resonate ;0, Be strong and courageous, and do the work

The reason I love your videos is because I feel like we have so much in common! It's so encouraging to me to see someone who has a similar work/procrastination style and can still be successful with their goals! Also: I feel so much pressure to make online content, and it's just not as important as doing work in the physical realm. I mean, it's great to share what you're doing, but I find that creating online content prevents me from reaching my goals. So it's always good to see someone who has their priorities straight when it comes to creating for an audience!

Thank you so much for this! I pride myself a lot in being a "go with the flow" person but in recent years / months I've wanted something different. I love your videos because they are so perfect for creative folks who don't struggle with new ideas or being excited or being inspired, but DO struggle with feeling like discipline isn't crushing or "for other people." This is discipline for artists. Thank you!!!

Instead of a hierarchy (which is just another to-do list) I made a mindmap with me in the center and all the things I want to get done / change / deal with surrounding me in a circle. I gave things colors to indicate what I want changed, what I want to achieve and what is more of a long-term general goal.
My idea was that I can look at this map and see all the things at a glance, then "turn" a certain way and deal with whatever I feel most capable of or motivated to do. That way, if I feel like I wasted my day, I can look at the map and see which of the things I did do and think about how important they were to me on this day.
