Good stuff. We use almost Shure SM-57s and 58s almost everything, definitely on some things that would sound much better with condensers or ribbons. Now that I know the difference I think we can make some changes that will help our FOH and our live stream a lot.
I've always been told: no phantom power for ribbon mics! Not sure if it's true, but the internet seems to agree that there are some very nice vintage ribbon mics that could be permanently damaged by phantom power.
Great information..!! Looking forward to purchasing a ribbon microphone.
Awesome! Let us know how it goes.

So how do we tell the difference with a mic we didn't buy ourselves?
If you google the mic name and model number, you should be able to find the details.
So I like how he doesn't have the mic in his face just to talk... so condenser mic for range?
Depends on how noisy the room is. Condenser mic far away in a noisy environment is not a great idea.
