Thanks for such a quick and detailed info on moon cactus gardening. Saved me from making the mistake of potting it directly into the soil. ❤️ From india 🇮🇳
please experiment on grafting succulent to cacti or other plants to other plants also please experiment with different covers: plastic, coffee filter, wax paper, etc
It is a mutant version of gymnocalycium. Gymnocalycium is green originally. Thru cross polination they have produced a pup which lacks chlorophyll entirely, that pup is then grafted to rootstock to survive on its own without the mother plant. I hope this helped. Thanks for watching
new to succulents, is this the only method of propagation for moon cacti? If so what is the reasoning they cannot develop their own rootstock? Thanks in advance if you can answer this
The regular gymnocalycium is green and can produce their own food through photosynthesis and doesn't need a rootstock. Moon cactus without chlorophyll (the green pigment) can not produce their own food and therefore will die without rootstock. The rootstock is doing the photosynthesis for the moond cactus (scion). Hope this helps :)
i bought a moon cactus awhile ago and i was wondering if it was possible to remove the scion from the cactus, then cut the rootstock in half and replant both pieces
Hi ah ha! Yes, it is possible (I've done this before) but the risk of killing it is there. The rootstock should be well established before grafting so it could supply nutrients to the scion.
It is a mutant version of gymnocalycium. The original version still has the green pigment. But the mutant like this one don't have the green pigment :)
Hi Adrian, thanks for watching :) no it will not, as mentioned moon cactus is an albino and lacks chlorophyll to survive on its own. So it needs a base that has chlorophyll , hope this video helped
as you know already I'm a big big fan of yours(I'm the one who keep insisting on making an Instagram acc) that how you can share more of your amazing experience without putting all these time an effort on the youtube videos and also i (or other ppl) can dm u there and show u some of my pictures from cacti related that I need help with. like I did around 20 pereskiopsis graft and none of them were successful so far, I'm using a different method right so I hope it would work this time. anyway as always I love your videos and everything you doing. you are really underrated in my opinion your videos are amazing. please please please make an Instagram acc for the channel im still waiting. just make one and don't worry about followers you will get followers trust me. so please do it, it takes like 1 minute to make one peace. 9
Hello AlextheX, I made an instagram account but it was blocked. I dont know why. So i have this new but differently spelled instagram: succulents4beginners I will soon customize it. It took me time to finally embrace instagram :) thank you

Thanks for watching Zachary :) Hylocereus and dragon fruit also works. I also have a video grafting a moon cactus to that. If you haven't tried micro-grafting which works with pereskiopsis, it would be a great added experience for you :)

Glad it was helpful!
This was a great video and stopped me from making a big mistake with my moon cactus pups. I am going to try grafting soon. Thank you.
Wow! I wondered how these cactus plants are made.
Wow, thank you for sharing your video ❤

Can I use any kind of cactus for grafting my moon cactus
Great video and very clear instructions ! Thank you:)
Extra juice from lower plant as glue: good tip. Would squeezed juice from extra pups from same Moon plant be good to add to bottom of pup attachment?
Your videos are very helpful
thank you for the comment and motivation :)
I learned about using pereskiopsis leaves as glue.
Hi Kathy Williamson thank you! :) I'm glad you learned something from this video
Can i used the stem of dragon tree as rootstokck
Thank you for sharing. God bless you.
Thanks for sharing,clear instructions.
Glad it was helpful!
Besides from Pereskiopsis, what other plants I can use as a graft base
try blue boy and dragon fruit
Before grafting was a thing, how did the albino moon cactus survive?
It is a mutant version of gymnocalycium. Gymnocalycium is green originally. Thru cross polination they have produced a pup which lacks chlorophyll entirely, that pup is then grafted to rootstock to survive on its own without the mother plant. I hope this helped. Thanks for watching
Wow thanks! np
Very helpful, thank you
Thank you for watching!
So we can craft with any kind of succulent either fit the size of circular right?
Hi Nhi, cactus to be specific is best used. Pereskiopsis is a cactus :)

Hi, can you make video about propagating 'kalanchoe tomentosa' and 'sedum rubrotinctum'?
Btw nice channel and videos.
Hi Starz 24, thanks for watching and thank you for this video idea. I'll have that in our list. :)
If they are unable to survive on their own, where did they com from?
It is a mutant version of gymnocalycium. The original version still has the green pigment. But the mutant like this one don't have the green pigment :)
Let's say I want to graft my moon cactus pups to a cactus from the mammillaria family. Would that work?
I believe they also lack chlorophyll
Good expamonation
thank you :)
My moon cactus main bulb is dying but the little orbs look bright and orange and the cactus stem looks healthy. Why is this?
Because the main bulb or the scion is a separate plant grafted unto the stem or root stock. :)
GOOD DEMO
Thank you :)
Mam can't we grow moon cactus in soil directly
Thanks for watching, depending on variety, if it has no green coloring, we can not grow it in soil directly
Wait, so can you graft these moon cacti to any cactus?
Yes, but life span varies depending on compatibility :)
@@succulentsforbeginners Thanks for the confirmation 👍
Will it still grow alone without any base?
Hi Adrian, thanks for watching :) no it will not, as mentioned moon cactus is an albino and lacks chlorophyll to survive on its own. So it needs a base that has chlorophyll , hope this video helped

Can we graft moon cactus on succulents?
Hi Sandeep, thanks for watching! I haven't tried that, but I will soon make a video about that. Thank you
Why my moon cactus doesn’t have pups? How can I do it?
Maybe it is still young, try waiting a little bit more. If it's already big and still has no pups, that's another story
If the scion can not survive on it's own, where does it come from in the first place? Thanks for your vid! Very informative.
Hi Aleshia, thanks for watching! It's an albino version of gymnocalycium
Your instructions are very good ... but your moon cactus is fungal infected :)
How do you know that?
The stem is rotting on the base, the color and appearance show this.
beau bye, thanks :) i have a moon cactus. Now ik that it's not infected.
@@Chandra-sv2qe of course :) I love plants I have 2 moon cactus myself
@@beaubye2944 that's so cool😊, i love plants too :) we started a Small collection of succulents and cactuses so it's our first moon cactus🌵❤️
