    Thanks for such a quick and detailed info on moon cactus gardening. Saved me from making the mistake of potting it directly into the soil. ❤️ From india 🇮🇳

    please experiment on grafting succulent to cacti or other plants to other plants
    also please experiment with different covers: plastic, coffee filter, wax paper, etc

    Extra juice from lower plant as glue: good tip. Would squeezed juice from extra pups from same Moon plant be good to add to bottom of pup attachment?

    Before grafting was a thing, how did the albino moon cactus survive?

    • @succulentsforbeginners
      @succulentsforbeginners  5 років тому +15

      It is a mutant version of gymnocalycium. Gymnocalycium is green originally. Thru cross polination they have produced a pup which lacks chlorophyll entirely, that pup is then grafted to rootstock to survive on its own without the mother plant. I hope this helped. Thanks for watching

    new to succulents, is this the only method of propagation for moon cacti? If so what is the reasoning they cannot develop their own rootstock? Thanks in advance if you can answer this

    • @succulentsforbeginners
      @succulentsforbeginners  6 місяців тому

      The regular gymnocalycium is green and can produce their own food through photosynthesis and doesn't need a rootstock. Moon cactus without chlorophyll (the green pigment) can not produce their own food and therefore will die without rootstock. The rootstock is doing the photosynthesis for the moond cactus (scion). Hope this helps :)

    i bought a moon cactus awhile ago and i was wondering if it was possible to remove the scion from the cactus, then cut the rootstock in half and replant both pieces

    • @succulentsforbeginners
      @succulentsforbeginners  5 років тому +2

      Hi ah ha! Yes, it is possible (I've done this before) but the risk of killing it is there. The rootstock should be well established before grafting so it could supply nutrients to the scion.

    If they are unable to survive on their own, where did they com from?

    • @succulentsforbeginners

      It is a mutant version of gymnocalycium. The original version still has the green pigment. But the mutant like this one don't have the green pigment :)

    My moon cactus main bulb is dying but the little orbs look bright and orange and the cactus stem looks healthy. Why is this?

    • @succulentsforbeginners
      @succulentsforbeginners  7 місяців тому

      Because the main bulb or the scion is a separate plant grafted unto the stem or root stock. :)

    as you know already I'm a big big fan of yours(I'm the one who keep insisting on making an Instagram acc) that how you can share more of your amazing experience without putting all these time an effort on the youtube videos and also i (or other ppl) can dm u there and show u some of my pictures from cacti related that I need help with. like I did around 20 pereskiopsis graft and none of them were successful so
    far, I'm using a different method right so I hope it would work this time.
    anyway as always I love your videos and everything you doing. you are really underrated in my opinion your videos are amazing.
    please please please make an Instagram acc for the channel
    im still waiting. just make one and don't worry about followers you will get followers trust me. so please do it, it takes like 1 minute to make one

      @@succulentsforbeginners oh man im really honored that you remembered me to tell. ill definitely give it follow rn. also announce it on your future videos or just a brief and a short video telling ppl about the insta account that they can find you there easily from now on and send their problems with photos attached to it. also you can do more updates on your ongoing or past projects there without going through all the trouble and making a youtube video on it, i know it can be hard at first recruiting followers but if you never care about the numbers and only focus on the better content trust me ppl gonna come. also make sure to add tons of plants related tags under your any posts in instagram, even use google translate and use other languages tags that related to plants and cacti, etc. cacti, succulents, and plants, in general, is a worldwide thing and you have to take advantage of it. sorry the comment got really long but i really like to see you succeed. take care and remember good content talks for itself and brings more followers
