It occurs to me that LOPHOPHORA WILLIAMSII has the anagram: WHOA! I AM IRISH LOLLIPOP! Ball-cacti (of all kinds) grafted onto 6" -12" pereskiopsis stems are therefore humorously called . . . "IRISH LOLLIPOPS."
Wow sir, this is so helpful and very detailed. I really appreciate your tutorial. I'm gonna receive my first batch of Pereskiopsis through the mail next week and I'm nothing but excited! Since now i know what to do 😉 thank you so much 💕
Love the video, love the grow set up and love the technique with the razor blade. I just did a video on grafting trichos to localish prickly pear cactus. How big can those trichos get before the become unstable? I have one pad the had 4 grafts on it and they're starting to get too big I think. You inspired me to try the pereskiopsis grafts next. I have 11 new shoots that rooted and have new growth, and another 10 that just went into pots and under the lights.
Are you aware that the bottom half of the seedlings that you chucked away can be grafted too? With the root end sticking up and the cut end down on the Pere just like you do with the top half. It works and doubles your chances per seedling! Best of luck and thanks very much for your informative video.
So I am wondering i grafted onto pereskiopsis and made a mistake of ripping all the leaves off there was only one leaf on each side, will it still be ok or should I swap it to another pere with leaves on it
I've read of people using Optunia, or Stapelia Gigantea as root stock, but the pereskiopsis is so nice for seedlings because the grafting is pretty straight forward with the geometries involved!
what a great video and great information but I have a quick quest with the ariocarpus you have grafted can't those be de-grafted at some point ? I also subscribed to your channel
What I had in doubt & reservations to take that initial step into grafting is now gone having watched your video, so feom me too you, thank you 🙏 . If I may, how do you marry up union the vascular cambium between a Trichocereus seedling with a smaller diameter to thay of a Pereskiopsis with a larger diameter?
Hey Austin, the vascular rings only have to intersect at a couple points, they don't have to fit on each other perfectly. So place the seedling a bit off centre on the pere.
I have 2 questions I would love if you could answer. How much time after grafting to get the size of the Trichocereus you showed at the end? Second question what would happen if you used a short pereskiopsis cutting, and instead of degrafting completely, you would transfer to big pot with soil cover up to say bottom third of cactus? You could keep the root system of the Pereskiopsis, and probably sprout roots from the cactus itself. Would that work ? Thanks.
I know you asked a while ago but if you're still looking for an answer - people will do what you described but not with pereskiopsis, they're considered to be more of a temporary graft to get the plant quickly to flowering size rather than a permanent stock. Both because they create somewhat unnatural looking growth but also to my understanding because they just aren't as long lived. You don't want to hide it in some soil only to have it suddenly rot on you a few years later. Same with hylocereus.
Does the pere have to have leaves? I have some cuttings that are rooted and they are about 7in, they have offshoots that have leaves but the rooted base has no leaves, can I graft to the rooted stick with no leaves?
How much faster do grafted cacti grow if it's an echinopsis that generally is fast growing anyway? I've never done grafting yet. I should give it a try
Thank You for sharing this is good information annuity your Channel I just watched your beehive removal from your wall, you know if there's any type of scent or something you can put into a box to draw them in? I look forward to hear from you thumbs up new supporter bye for now Ken
Hi how's it going I've noticed your videos are about three months apart if you didn't know; if you were to upload one video all week every week UA-cam would begin to recommend your videos to other people watching the same type of videos okay so I thought I'd just share that little bit of info when I found that out I know I got pretty excited. Keep up the good work bye for now God bless you, Ken
So, do you do this just to speed up the growth & remove the grafted top plants later or do you continue to let them grow after drafting? What do you do after they are growing well in your greenhouse? Do they ever get top heavy & fall over or break off? I have enjoyed growing cacti & succulents for about 20 years & I sell my plants. I am just begining to look into grafting.
BTW it makes the ignorant feel better but factually simply wiping things with isoproterenol is not not NOT an effective means whatsoever at sterilizing anything but don't take my word for it do your own googling and see for yourself. I am sure it is effective via certain percentage and so maybe it is worthwhile? who knows without an actual study carried out in clinical settings along with a control of maybe just using tap water. Many people in the know consider isopropyl wipedowns to be nothing more than a placebo ritual to make people feel like a procedure is being performed "right"/carefully.....maybe if you had an actual clump of feces on your arm over an IV site maybe some nasty microbes would physically get sandwiched beteen the point and the skin forcing said microbes directly into the blood stream ...I mean hey it COULD happen! But whether or not wiping first with h20 paper towel as opposed to sterile gauze and isopropyl alcohol would be significantly dangerous? Who knows .... But hey if it makes ya feel better go for it. ...ut when I personally REALLY want feel good about disinfecting something? Freshly mixed Bleach and vinegar! It proven to be MANY MANY times stronger than bleach alone! It just KICKS ASS! And I imagine you could wipe plant with it also so long as you follow the wipe with sterile water to remove the bleach/vinegar....reminds me of a news story I heard long time ago that was begging junkies to use BLEACH and NOT alcohol to sterilize needles! Bleach kills the microbes etc where alcohol simply does not (anytime soon anyway) ...My first job was working in a hospital pharmacy and one chore I had was to sterilize certain items that came through the pharmacy rather than Central supply ....We DID use isopropyl alcohol BUT the items were physically submerged OVERNIGHT for many hours! ....Alcohol is simply quite ineffective in any sort of quick sterilization effort ...you are just kidding yourself wiping stuff off
Having a few beer and doing something you truly enjoy like this, is great. Who needs people as friends haha. 😂
people for friends are so over-rated.
I have a perskiosis. Onto it I grafted San Pedro and on top of that San Pedro I grafted Lophophora Williamsii. Frankenplant!
pics?
aahahahahahahahahaahhaahahahaahahhahahahaahahhahaah fucking great high for sure this
X2! Jejeje
upload a vid and ill subscribe
I like this guy's priorities. "first thing you do is crack open the beer and take a swig."
Just guys bein dudes

Great video. Very helpful. Could you maybe show how and when you degraft the scion to make a separate plant. Thanks
Thanks for the tutorial on micro-grafting. I hope you can make a video on de-grafting as well. 🙂🌵☕️
Hi sir...thankz a lot for teaching us' you have a lot of very beautiful grafting plants worked done...
Wonderful video and lots of great information. Also, I believe you sound a lot like Jordan Pederson! Haha thanks for the video!

Have you done this personally and had success?
cactus love yes I have and yes had great success.
@@Trenscendent Awesome! Never tried grafting with seedlings myself, are you a kiwi ?
Excuse me for asking such a random question haha, your name just looks familiar!
cactus love yes I am
So I am wondering i grafted onto pereskiopsis and made a mistake of ripping all the leaves off there was only one leaf on each side, will it still be ok or should I swap it to another pere with leaves on it
It was a stab graft too
Good on you sir, a great video indeed!
I wonder why he's growing all of that trichocereus? ;)
Ornamental for sure.
@@bytemuncher1 Yep. They won't grow big enough for anything else on pereskiopsis.
So do you have to cut the cactus off the pereskiopsis once it’s too big? Or is there another way to plant it from grafting?
Impressive garden
he is right. beer helps oodles
Too much beer and u might accidentally use ur finger as rootstock 😂
Looks awesome, what are some other fast growing cactus that could work for this?
I've read of people using Optunia, or Stapelia Gigantea as root stock, but the pereskiopsis is so nice for seedlings because the grafting is pretty straight forward with the geometries involved!

Like your technique.
I am using a full spectrum led light in my small grow room . Can I get away with using this led to do the same presedure as you ? Thank you !
great video partner. you in the UK?

Hi, thanks for this. How long are the lights on for each day? Cheers.
Once your seedlings have grown substantially can they be in-grafted? I don’t particularly want lollipops but I do want my babies to grow faster?
How old should the seedlings be?
stupid Q.
If I have a couple Grafted cacti, Can I and when could I "reverse" the graft and have the Top root back into the ground?😅

Forgot to mention that one of these species contains the psychedelic, Mescaline.
You can graft the bottoms too
Good video! :)
Does it fall over when it grows, become top heavy??
Can you graft a dragon fruit seedling onto the perskiopsis?
Sure. You can graft just about any cactus species onto Pereskiopsis
Hi, is your lighting simply Led? Or is it spectrum, do you have any internal temperature?
What do you do with all those lollipops?
How many hours of light are you giving them when first grafted and growing under the T5-HO lights?
Thank you ... knowledge for me
Love it well done
Me gustan los cactus 🌵 y las suculentas 🥰🇲🇽❤
What a great vid thanks
Hi can I give us some update of ur graftings or on ur cacti?
What is a short time? How long does it take to get from a seedling to a couple of inches?
Wow, nice job!
so you steralise the blade, leave it open to the air, and then cut the cactus with an unsteralised pair of scissors?....

Cool video.. dirty ass razor blade even after "sterilization"
Nice williamsii in the back there (if I'm not mistaken)

Can you graft dragon fruit on this?
Any updates ?
i want the flowering Tricho haha
Hey. How these thin stocks are going to hold the large Trichocereus ?
Also please give details of grow light used.
Wonder where I could buy a periscoptsis plant?
online
pereskiopsis

They can grow up to 6 times faster this way sometimes more.
Goods tafting
Be careful with the plastic foodwrap and clip pressure thAt shit exploded one of my attempted seedling grafts and it shifts the shit around ,
mine started to rot and a bunch of liquid around it
But the degraft is alot harder then other graft
...it's not from Mexico, pereskiopsis are from South America, Ecuador I believe.
Wrong. Pereskiopsis grows mostly in Central America (except for one species), Pereskia grows only in South America.
Who the hell "Down voted" this?! Great video!

What is the name of grafted cactus @11:49 ??? 😳🤔
Trichocereus Peruvianus hybrids

Yeah, that's why alchohol wipes are standard in the hospitals...because they are so ineffective.
Shut up
