1:06, there is another way called a "Flat Character Arc" where instead of the character changing for the better, or worse, they change the world around them. Some good examples are James Bond and Indiana Jones. Hope this helps!
I found this video because I want to learn how to write stories. I focused so much on what you were saying and showing and later realized you were demonstrating what you were just talking about. This is great. I have to see this again so I can really get what you were saying. I like you way of teaching.
You are the best UA-camr for me ! I love you man ! With your help I leveled up my storytelling and it is working ! I wish you all the best in the world !
This was a really good, quick video explaining the bare-bones basics of story-telling. I knew all of this, but hearing it broken down into a really high-level explanation just helped cement it all for me.
I watched this after seeing Roberto’s post. I remember watching your videos a couple years ago and thought you had stepped away from YT. I’ve been focusing on better storytelling for the videos I create for kids. So I really need this! 😊
@@EpicKate Thanks Kate! I am working on implementing storytelling into my videos and it is harder than I imagined so having someone make it easy would be very helpful.
beautifully crafted little stories!! loved that, it demonstrated that a story can be very simple, bordering trivial and seemingly "insignificant" and yet really compelling.
Interesting. My main reason to make videos has always been to try and most accurately preserve moments and memories because change is a part of life. The change is always internal and personal. Sharing my personal change as a story is a new perspective
Is there a way to stop getting ideas? I have been keeping notes on full novel ideas I have been collecting over this year, i just finished writing my 2nd novel and started my 3rd, in the same time i have 30 well thought out ideas that could most likely support an entire novel each by them self.
How do you write sitcoms where there can’t be change because the status quo of the characters has to remain the same and reset for the beginning of the next episode?
So does this method work for how-to/automotive channels? I feel like I’d have a hard time figuring out what internal change or transformation is happening when I’m just showing someone how to troubleshoot or repair something on their vehicle...
Hey Randy - 100%, it works even there. It's worth doing an entire video on it, actually - but in a nutshell, you've got change baked into every video you do. Externally you're demonstrating how to adjust/improve/fix something that isn't working yet. Internally you're promising people the answers they're looking for and the satisfaction of knowing they can do it themselves. Even dropping a sentence or two referencing past frustrations with X issue, then later mentioning how good it feels to be able to figure things out, get things taken care of in your own way, etc. uses the power of internal change. It doesn't have to be anything over-the-top or crazy - use it in your own style. But it's always possible to benefit from it.
That's a loaded question, Marc - short answer, absolutely it's possible. Comedy is often based on surprise or shared understanding, and those functions still have to happen in order for comedy to work. Heck, you can have all sorts of comedy without TTUTT at all. TTUTT works by connecting surface-level things to deeper ideas - in this case, within whatever context that your crowd finds funny.
@@StoryGreenlight I see what you mean. Thanks for the great insight. Love the content. Hope you come out with more videos soon. I have used your techniques in my last 3 videos. They improved them by 100x.
UGH Too much unrelated footage I'm sure this video is fun to watch... I'm just so desperate it feels frustrating. It's not you. It's me. Just uh, maybe keep in mind when trying to help the frustrated, they may be impatient...

I highly recommend Story Greenlight! Jeff breaks down story telling in a way that I can clearly understand and use to improve my videos.
Thanks Debi! You know a thing or two about storytelling yourself. 😊👍

Fantastic!! So cool to hear that, man! Congrats on all your success so far!

I like how you integrate storytelling with your how-to content! Taking notes over here!
Thanks Josh! Hope your music's going well for ya.
This is so good Jeff!
Thanks man! This was a fun one. 😬
Don't you love how he crafts his videos? It feels so effortless.

Fantastic. More videos are in the works - glad you're here!
@@StoryGreenlight thank you :)
Your storytelling history is phenomenal Jeff and this sounds like a great opportunity for us UA-cam creators to better connect to our audience!
Thanks Randi! Would love to have you join us.
He really is so good at it. Storytelling is such a hard concept to teach but the way he shows it makes it feel doable.

100%. It’s possible to attach genuine meaning to almost anything.
Interesting. My main reason to make videos has always been to try and most accurately preserve moments and memories because change is a part of life. The change is always internal and personal. Sharing my personal change as a story is a new perspective
Well, definitely keep doing your thing. Preserve those moments - then maybe you can add extra videos commenting on the change.
This works WAY better than the one I was expecting... nicely done, Jeff!
Ha! Thanks Nate. The one you're expecting is still in process - our time in Omaha is coming to an end, so I decided to bust this one out first.
I decided to rewatch this video because of Roberto Blake's recent shout-out to you and your channel. I'm glad I did.
Fantastic. Glad you're here, Ryan!
Best idea ever. You have changed me now!

This is such a valuable video...we love Omaha too!! We venture over there from Iowa City time to time! Congrats man!
Thanks Brian! Yeah, Omaha’s got a lot of good things going for it. Our time here is running short, but it’s been good.
Thank you good sir !
What a brilliant video!

And welcome to The Green Room, man! Looking forward to digging into this stuff more.
@@StoryGreenlight thanks, looking forward to seeing what your program has to offer!
Great points! Thanks for sharing!
This was fantastic!
Thanks!
What a moving video! That part where you talked about making the decision to make a change- I felt that.
Thanks Kate! Glad to hear. I think there's a part of everyone who can identify with that "wanting to make a change" thing.
Change is a very good place to start, great advice Jeff, hope your enjoying Omaha my friend 👊
Joe!! Thanks man. Time here in Omaha is short, but it's been good.
Como eu sinto falta de vídeos nesse canal! Volte logo
More videos in the works - glad you're here, Rodrigo.
@@StoryGreenlight no way you answered me! 🤩🤩🤩🤩, super happy now lol
It’s good to know you’re working on new videos dude! Hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷
Teaching through speech and action. Fantastic, as always.
Thanks Sam!
Is there a way to do "TTUTT" and apply it with comedy like the squirrel footage? How to I find the thing and make it into comedy?
