People have been using their Airpods with their iPhone to potentially eavesdrop on conversations and spy on people! However, what a lot don't realize, is that you don't even need airpods. This seems supported on a lot of bluetooth devices. I tried it on my Bose QC35.

I’ve tried it with 3 different pairs of Sony’s, a cheap pair of wireless earbuds (Aiirhut, off Amazon) and most recently some Skullcandy Hesh 3's. Hope it helps

I’m guessing it was a bug they just patched on newer iOS versions. Or maybe we need to connect any AirPods first, as he did on the video. I don’t own AirPods so I’ll never know, lol

Thanks to you my 95 year old dad uses Live Listen with his Apple AirPods and his iPad (he got a year or so ago) when people visit so he can hear them. We put the iPad near the person speaking or in the center of the room, turn on Live Listen, put in his AirPods, and that’s it. It works almost as good as the high-end hearing aids that cost a fortune.
For me it says “connect to a compatible audio device to use live listen” any help?

I think you need to connect a pair of AirPods first. Then move to another Bluetooth device for it to work.

If you use it with any other Bluetooth headphones it actually gets the audio from your phone instead of the actual headphones and also if it doesn’t work for you with other headphones just keep tapping the “Unavailable for current route” and it should work so basically you can leave your phone anywhere and as long as your Bluetooth headphones are connected you should be able to hear any sound your phone picks up thank me later 👌

Hello, I can assure that this does infact work, all you need to do is connect any system of head phones or ear buds, (as the headphones or ear buds connect automatically) then turn them off, (not from the Bluetooth setting its self) turn off the ear buds or headphones exactly how you turned them on, then go on the hearing, turn them back on, then it’ll work. Here’s all the steps in order:
1.Turn them on
2.Go to bluetooth settings and connect.
3.Turn off head phones how you turned them on.
4.Make sure they disconnected
5.Open Hearing as you go to the control panel.
6. Turn on headphones and wait for it to say “Live listen
Off”
7. Tap on the “off” button and it’ll say “on”
8. Then place it anywhere in your house to spy on anyone.
(The audio will be bad but it’s something.)

For those who can’t do it get voice memos and start the record button and after that turn of your device and turn it back on when you want to end it so you can listen back to what’s been happening in that space of time.
Reminds me of when field reporters all of a sudden takes their IFB (interruptible foldback) because of the delay in satellite feed it’s annoying to talk while listening to remote studio feed back via ear piece. To by pass it they just call over their phone instead of feeding satellite feedback. Just thought I’d comment that. Thanks for the video, very informative. I wonder if we can try this via Mac to record conversations 🤷♂️
Wow men, I’m a med student, and if I use my iPhone and my Bose AE soundlink as a stethoscope I am able to fully hear and auscultate my different organs
EDIT: I compare this method with my stethoscope littman cardiology IV and it is near of what you’ll be able to hear with the littman, it never gonna replace my stethoscope but whoahhh that’s amazing and so stunning!!
It would be great to replace a sonar device to listen in on baby's heart beat for pregnant women.

Wow! After watching this vid I tried it with my Phonak ComPilot which streams to my hearing aids. And it worked! Which means I can now use my iPhone as a remote mic in meetings etc. The equivalent kit from phonak costs £500. Thank you!

I think this must have changed with later versions of iOS. I have iOS 17.4.1, and although my AirPods show up as an option, my other Bluetooth headset (Shokz) doesn't show up

I don’t know why it isn’t working. Try restarting your phone perhaps... turning Bluetooth off and on, etc.

I used y AirPods Pro and worked well. However, if I remove the AirPods for my ears, the mic gets disconnected and the only way to turn the listen on is when AirPods are in my ears

It has to have a microphone on the headphones so it can pick up sound and amplify it through the headphones right?
No (someone correct me if I’m wrong) it picks up the sound using the phone only. You could be in a different room with your headphones and still hear what the iPhone is “listening to.” Unless there is another mode that can somehow combine the AirPod mic and the phone mic for a super loud experience... but I doubt it works that way
My headphones from the Apple store are blue tooth but they not AirPods and this did not work
My beats studio 2s work. They didn’t work initially but then did. You need to enable the feature and unpair the headphones. Then, pair the headphones again with the feature enabled and you’re done.

Do you think it will work with an external (wired?) mic aswell? Thus one person can wear phone and mic and talk, second person airpods/hearing aid and receives talk amplified. Would be a great solution for bike rides and such. Thx.
