Couple of things you guys misunderstood -the guy pretending to be batman at the start, was part of a unit of cops pretending to be batman to try helping - the coin harvey gave rachel was a coin with heads on both sides, so everytime he was flipping for something, he knew it would be heads, when rachel died, one side became tails so it became real coin flips - bruce was trying to save rachel, but joker told him the opposite places, so if he went for harvey, he would have saved rachel, basically whichever choice batman wanted to make, it would end up being the opposite. Joker always wins. (Edit: just got to the part where ash explains it) This movie is in my top 3 of all time, so glad i watched this in the cinemas as a kid
@@fynnthefox9078 It's the best we're probably going to get. Agreed. The only thing I wish had been done differently was how Dent became Two-Face, they had the perfect opportunity to do it in the courtroom scene and didn't do it. I realize the way it happened was part of the story, but still.

Harvey's coin was heads on both sides. Once you know that, if you go back and listen to every time he flipped the coin, he always said "Heads" would be a good outcome, and "Tails" would be a bad outcome...even when Batman stopped him...because Harvey knew that "Tails" was never going to happen with a double-headed coin. That all changed once he became Two-Face. The dark/burnt head meant he was going to do something bad.
DUDE I just realized that when he was intimidating David Dastmalchian's character he purposefully said "Heads? You get to keep your head" cuz at that point he still was a good guy and wouldn't kill a person
Not only was the clapping in the jail cell improvised, so was the scene of him telling Rachel how he got his scars. She was frightened and was trying to look at Christopher Nolan to see what's going on. I always start this film New Year's Eve at 9:47:07, so at midnight the Joker says "Here We Go".
Heath Ledger was absolutely amazing in this movie. I remember hearing about him locking himself up in a motel room for 30 days, keeping a diary to prepare himself for the role and was dumbfounded by his commitment to the craft. I also remember hearing about his death shortly after and how sad it was to have lost such a great talent at so young an age. 15 years later it's still one of the greatest performances and to me, this is STILL the greatest superhero movie of all time.
I keep his performance and his process as attested to by his family apart and separate from his untimely passing. I try not to make some sorta speculation or anything. Brilliant and professional!
@@elricofmelnibone8256 I like Constantine more, true. I think this movie (The Dark Knight) only has a few issues, but Heath's performance is SUCH a tremendous highlight, it makes me forget them. My favorite superhero is Spiderman and quite frankly, my favorite Spiderman movie is Far From Home... 😅 Just because it's just SOOO much FUN!
His laughing when he's getting punched in the interrogation room still gives me the chills even though I've seen this movie so many times over the years. It's literally the perfect Joker laugh. Heath Ledger set a new bar for acting with this one.
I read about that SCENE & Heath told Batman to just 'KICK MY ASS' for real, I can take the punches & want it to be real. It worked because Heath had previous 'training' from stuntmen in the business. GREAT JOB!
@Daniel-ik7tu That kind of dedication is just so fun and inspiring, not to mention rare in the movie industry. It lets those closeup shots and long takes exist, because they don't have to cut the scene to hell to hide stunt doubles. I'm not saying I want all the actors to be willing to take a real and physical beating, but it's nice to see that there are some that are still willing to take the craft so seriously to give such iconic performances.
My older sister's boyfriend (now my brother in law) is a huge batman nerd and was hyping this movie up to no end before its release. We went on opening day and both of our jaws hit the floor at the pencil trick... we bought tickets to the next available showing immediately after the movie ended. Only film I've ever gone to see twice in one day, what an absolute masterpiece! RIP Heath, truly one of the greatest performances of all time.
Yeah, I mean she even mentioned in the video that he laughs similar to the way Joker does when he's KO'ing people, and Ash was literally smiling bigger than the Joker was as she said it... 🤣😭💀
The Russian mob boss in the kitchen meeting is so good. He smiles at Joker's trick. He's considering his offer. He's the only one taking him seriously from the beginning.
Jeebuz! How could one entirely focus on one after watching the other? I saw Hancock in the cinema the same day that I saw Dark Knight in the cinema. Hancock is a FANTASTIC movie. Sadly, of COURSE, this buried Hancock for me and society as a whole. 🤷♂️
Hannah missed that Harvey’s coin is a double-sided coin (both heads). He wasn’t going to kill the guy because he always picks heads and “makes his own luck”. After he turns into Two Face, the coin is scorched too, with the burned side being tails now
I grew up on Jack Nicholson Joker. When I heard about this, I was upset. No one could play it the way Jack did. And I didn’t like Heath. Saw this movie and was STUNNED. One of the most amazing performances EVER. Heath deserved his posthumous Oscar.
@@ASKMEABOUTMYGARDENyou also need to take into account copyright. Some studios aren’t as lenient as others. And there’s a lot of content here. The boat scene is good, but it’s definitely not the most powerful. If Deebo wasn’t in that scene it would just be more cannon fodder for joker
That scene is so powerful because it showed that the Jokers theory that people will descend to savagery when the chips are down was wrong and that what Batman was fighting for the whole time was that inspiring hope in people will make them do the right thing.
20:30 Fun Fact: The old guy who tells the Joker "We're not intimidated by thugs" is portrayed by Patrick Leahy, who was a US Senator (Vermont) since 1975, retiring just this year in 2023. Leahy is a huge comic fan (especially Batman), & as such appeared in all 3 Nolan Batman movies, as well as Batman Forever, Batman & Robin (probably won't admit that one), & Batman v Superman...
Hannah's reaction was great, and her comments were very insightful. Especially her take on the Joker and her realization that his story about his past was an elaborate joke that made him even more of a monster. And she got how Heath Ledger 's performance both draws you in and scares the hell out of you.
It isn't just a 'joke' - it also denies you a reason why he hates AND it is also a commentary, that, combined with the "Some men just want to watch the world burn" is a reminder that you cannot apply your morality to those without it. Some men just want to watch the world burn - so you have to deny it to them.
His story is a big what if. Yeah what if he made it all up, but what if they’re all true? All the stories could be true, and adds to how life has broken down a man to the point you see the Joker at.
Also look at who he directs these stories to. Gambol is a career criminal, probably grew up in a violent household. Rachel is young and beautiful and at a point in her life when she’s considering marriage. Both can relate to Joker’s stories in their own way and Joker knows this.
I was already a Batman fan before this movie, but when I saw this movie back in 2008, it not only made me more of a Bat-Fan, but it also made me a fan of Christopher Nolan's work. I thank Nolan for making Batman great again.
By the way, a lot of Joker’s movements and lines are improvised, many of which made it into the movie. One of my favorites is the hospital blow up scene. The whole explosion was meant to go off without a pause. It didn’t, and they only had one take to get it right, so Ledger just did what he felt the Joker would actually do if his bombs didn’t all explode as planned and it is just perfect.
I remember sneaking out of class in high school to see this movie. There were lines outside the theater and me and the boys got the last few tickets for the 12:30 showing. The cheering and enthusiasm from the audience was something you just had to be there for. The movie got a standing ovation from the audience when the credits rolled. It’s truly one of the best movies ever made. Certainly the best superhero movie ever made
Cristopher NOLAN is the Best Director that WARNER could get to adapt the DC Stories...He is the BEST Director who knew how to create the BATMAN universe, after Burton. Afterwards, No Other Director Has Known How to Recreate DC Stories. Pattinson's Batman is just getting started and looks great.
It is unbelievable how much is in this movie. The video is an hour long, yet they cut out all of the ferry and the hospital evacuation scenes and so much more. Absolutely exceptional! Also, I think Hanna did not get that the coin had two same sides and that Harvey never meant to kill that one guy.
Acting is phenomenal and the story is so good this is why it's the best superhero movie didn't rely on stupid cameos , stupid jokes and cg , just pure acting and storytelling.
The magic of a theater, gave me chills. The entire theater was filled with a nervous, trembling people witnessing what felt real from Heath. Like seeing Prince at the United center before his death, watching this movie in a theater was a privilege and honor.
This movie never loses its magic! And the late Heath Ledger giving us his timeless (and bone chilling) performance as the Joker is just one of a kind. May he rest in amazing peace 👏👏👏
In the interrogation room, Joker tells Batman "Killing is making a choice, and tonight you're gonna break your one rule" IE "You're gonna kill someone." He's trying to tell him without being clear that whoever he chooses to save will die. That's why he switches the addresses... He wants Batman to chose someone to die.
Heath Ledger was so dedicated to this role. He locked himself in a hotel room for a month and kept a diary to prepare for the role. He did a lot of improvisation. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Best joker of all time, best batman movie! RIP Heath Ledger.
The "unofficial" backstory that Nolan had about the Joker was he is ex-military. And Patton Oswalt expounded on it to be specifically in interrogation. And if you look at what he does it makes sense. The planning and knowledge of multiple types of weaponry. His ability to manipulate. And he uses specific details in his conversation with Harvey that show a little insight. He mentioned soldiers being blown up and how it's all part of the plan. I like this idea.
“ Some men aren’t looking for anything logical like money. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men, Just wanna watch the world burn! “ one of my favorite movie quotes of all time
I was a bit reluctant to watch this reaction, because I was full on thinking that you guys probably have no idea who Heath was, or could ever understand what he's done on and off screen for this role, but something tells me that you both already know that! I knew you wouldn't break my heart like that. It's such a relief, because you can't even imagine having to watch a noob reactor say: _"Who is this weird guy playing the Joker? Why's he so weird? You call this the Joker? Jared Leto was better."_ Nah, I would hunt down whoever says such a thing. Heath was the greatest Joker we will EVER get. Period.
Giving the wrong address to Batman was such a genius move - probably my favorite of the whole movie. He wanted to make the Batman break his rules and he wanted to show the world that people are just animals and that we're all one small step away from becoming crazy by breaking the White Knight - the most "outstanding" citizen out of all of them. By killing Rachel, who they both loved, he could get both of them to break at the same time. All of the other stuff was just distractions for the message he wanted people to know; that we all have the capacity of becoming someone like him.
@@Wraiven22 Yes, that’s the case. He gave the right addresses but switched them because he knew Batman would go for Rachel. So he rudely engineered it to where he would unknowingly save Harvey instead.
It also sets up the question about the two boats. Can you trust what the Joker says? Did the remotes trigger the bombs on the other boats or to their own? If the man had triggered the convict's boat and it blew up his own, people wouldn't know and assume the choice was made by the police to save themselves and the convicts, thus creating more distrust and chaos.

46:12 Reason why he didn't kill the Joker was because even if he did try to shoot him, it wouldn't have worked. If y'all play back that scene again and look closely at Joker's hands, you can see that while Harvey has him at gun point, his finger was on the hammer pin of the pistol. So even if Harvey pulled the trigger, the hammer wouldn't strike and therefore it wouldn't shoot. So essentially, the Joker is giving Harvey the "illusion of choice", making him think that he has complete control over the situation when in reality the Joker was in control the entire time. It's such a fine and subtle detail but it really brings more depth to the scene as well as Joker's character. This movie is such a masterpiece.
Bruv, how is it that you've yet to watch my fave Christopher Nolan film "The Prestige"? It's got two of the actors from "Batman Begins" and it will be absolutely awesome seeing Hannah's detective mode kick in on this one. You guys gotta watch it! Luv you two maniacs.
Some of the great portrayals of The Joker on screen have each leaned in to one the many facets that make up the character, which you guys also spoke about briefly too when talking about Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal compared to Heath Ledger’s; really showing how complex the psyche of this character is… - Cesar Romero’s Joker: THE CLOWN - Jack Nicholson’s Joker: THE GANGSTER - Mark Hamill’s Joker: THE TRICKSTER - Heath Ledger’s Joker: THE ANARCHIST - Jared Leto’s Joker: THE PSYCHOPATH - Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker: THE COMEDIAN - Cameron Monaghan’s Joker: THE MANIAC
Ash I recently discovered your channel, I’m currently watching all your videos with Hannah and I’m loving them. Making people laugh is a gift and both of you guys are blessed with it. I love your reactions and your chemistry and I strongly believe you could do together other content too successfully. Keep doing what you do and if you ever feel discouraged, remember there are people who really appreciate your work. Love you guys from Greece.
Heath Ledger is one of only 9 people to ever be nominated posthumously for acting and one of only 2 to ever win (the only other posthumous winner being Peter Finch, who won Best Actor for NETWORK (1976)) (both Finch and Ledger were coincidentally Australians).
27:19. He even said “NOT exactly” I love the significance of that line. You find out later when he tosses the coin to Rachel. So many great throw backs.
I have been waiting for you guys to react to this one! Such a great movie. It goes without saying that Heath Ledger is beyond tremendous. So quotable and an instant classic. This one is GOATED. 🤘🏽
I actually prefer Batman Begins as a Batman movie but still really enjoy Dark Knight as a film. I personally just never cared for how Nolan tried to "ground" Batman in this film and Dark Knight Rises. Gotham was turned into basically Chicago lacking any personality and Batman himself visually was striped from some of his look for example making the Bat symbol less visible and making the suit much slimmer. To me you can ground a character, of course that's fine but that doesn't equal removing personality and visual design just makes it boring and dull. Also hated Bales Batman voice, worse part of these films and I just can't see Bale as a good Batman. Amazing Bruce Wayne though but I never understood people's love of him as Batman. This is where The Batman shined for me it's tone, depiction of Gotham City, much better than what we got in Nolan's later Batman films. Even the TV show Gotham had a much better depiction of the city, even featured blimps so I hope that's something we get in Gunn's new DCU Gotham City. And Robert was just a better Batman, Bale the better Bruce Wayne but that could change in the future once we actually see Robert as Bruce Wayne more.
@@talljohnsparky I feel like Bale and Affleck are the only Batmen we've seen (in live action) that truly embody how great of a strategist Bruce is. And after having both of those performances back to back it was super refreshing to see Pattinson's Batman come along and lean more into his skill as a detective.
I'm only 4 minutes in and I just have to say how much I ADORE the fact that Ash is literally vibrating with enjoyment while Hannah is just reacting to this majestic movie lol. Absolute first rate! Two part edit! First and foremost and I didn't mean it to sound like Hannah is "just reacting". Love her genuine honesty! Part 2 is thank you for the like Ash
Christian Bale's Batman voice was actually not as gruff when he was performing his role, it was edited in post-production to make it sound like this! Another very interesting film starring Heath is Brothers Grimm, I'd recommend watching that at some point!
Jokers multiple stories around his scars keeps the mystique. Kind of makes his story have darker depths. Also, that chase scene never fails to give me goosebumps. The silence as the truck flips over, Joker stumbling along whilst firing the gun, the tension build as Batman fights against the part of himself that wants to kill the Joker. Timeless. Harvey Dent's decline into what he became is also a little nod to the author Alexander Solzhenitsyn (although probs not intentional) - “The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either -- but right through every human heart -- and through all human hearts. This line shifts. Inside us, it oscillates with the years. And even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained”. Viktor Frankl also had this experience with his time in the concentration camps where he noted good deeds from some of the guards.
I don’t see it that way, especially considering at that point Rachel had already chosen Dent, and there was a possibility her choosing Dent would cause Bruce to lose his faith in people. Honestly, I believe had Joker not switched the addresses and Batman saved her over Dent, Rachel may have come to resent Bruce because she would’ve saw his decision as selfish… which it was, tbh.
So glad I finally got to see this in theaters, it elevated this movie to one of my favorites. The first half is immaculately written, where literally every line furthers either character development or plot development or is a setup for something that pays off in the second half. Pure cinema.
5:00 The m18 smoke grenade heats up during operation. Like hell. In about 15 seconds this guy will wish it was an offensive grenade. An explosion kills much faster than burns...
Hannah (for once) actually missed a crucial detail when she says Harvey always had it in him to kill. Prior to the explosion his coin was double-headed so he was in control of his actions
29:25 she totally missed the point that Harvey wasn't gonna kill that dude in the alley because, there's no Tails on that coin. I'm surprised Ash didn't mention it.
It’s so amazing to watch people that never read the back story in the comics react to the movies. The old heads knew Harvey would turn into Two Face. They knew about the coin and how he turned into a character that was torn in two pieces. It’s just such a shame they killed him off so quickly, and even more of a shame that Heath passed away. They had to change all of their plans for the trilogy. I wonder what would have happened if he was still with us. RIP Heath.
Love the reactions. This is a masterpiece. I wish Heath was alive to receive his academy award. If you listen to "Batman" as he leaves the police station he tells Gordon he is going after Rachel so he fully believes he is going to save her. Jack Nicholson actually warned Heath about taking on the mental aspect of the Joker while he was filming. Much love and keep on J.
Dent was never capable of killing earlier in the movie. When he gives Rachel the coin, you realize it’s a two headed coin so he always knew what he was going to do. Now one side of the coin is burnt.
03:26 "Is he not like an agent or something"? It's funny how Hannah thought the bank manager was an agent when he actually played an Agent in Prison Break. XD
God, this is such a good movie. I love how they made both the Joker and Twoface actually scary. I mean PROPER scary. Especially this Joker - you don't want to hang around a person like this, because they might turn against you at any time for no reason. This version is a true power of chaos. And both Joker and Twoface are played by actors who really, REALLY can carry the weight of their characters. They're believable in this movie. It's always a two sided sword if someone modernizes an old story - it can work or it can fail. Here it's done right. PS: And I still LOVE the 1960's Batman with his silly depiction of all the characters, based on the tone the comics had back then. Actually - I dare say that you two should do yourself the favour and watch the movie made for that series - with Adam West as Batman. It is - in a completely different way - as awesome as this movie!
I got this on DVD at the end of a nightshift...6 in the morning.....I was hangin out my arse....put it on as something to watch while I fell asleep..... I was sat there about 9 o clock wide awake and gobsmacked.....then I watched it again...then I went sleep....fuck me what a film!

So happy I got to see this opening night at the theater! I’m not usually a big mindless superhero/action movie person, but this movie was really worth that experience. So sad that someone shot to a theater during this time, I can’t imagine how tainted this movie is for everyone that was at that theater and all of their loved ones.
17:40 Christopher Nolan gave Heath Ledger a camcorder to film this himself to get the views it has. 20:03 this is the first time Alfred(Michael Caine) and Rachel (Maggie Gyllenhaal) saw Heath Ledger in the full Joker makeup. The Joker loves mayhem so he does whatever he can to cause trouble. 22:29 he couldn’t use his cape to fly and hold Rachel at the same time. 23:32 it depends on the comic version you’re looking at. Some versions of Joker do have a backstory to them.
Its almost impossible to see Heath under the makeup. Even when you look for it, and considering he wasnt American, the voice, the acting, it was all perfect. What a masterpiece

I'm predicting this is going to be one of your best reactions, to date. Also, I can't wait to see your reaction to 'Scarface!' I think you guys would enjoy 'Innerspace' quite a bit. You would have an absolute blast with 'BlacKkKlansman.' I realize I'm not a patron, but anytime you want a recommendation, I'm here.
The hospital scene was actually a mistake. The explosions stopped, and Heath just waited to see what would happen. Also, Heath's parents watched his walk out of the building and it reminded them of how he walked as a little boy.
What I truly love about this movie is the fact that it actually made people go....okay, damn....it's not only a great comic book movie, or the best comic book movie....after watching this one it was....what an AMAZING FILM....and that's probably the highest compliment possible. What a masterpiece. Great reaction as always!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I'm just like Ash, speaking Joker lines all the time...hahahahahhaha)
About Hannah's opinion about other Joker movie, I totally get it. Probably it is because Joker here is the villain, Phoenix's Joker is primarily a victim. This one is a bit all over the place (Just like Christopher Nolan's every other movie) Other Joker movie is more established and grounded. All about the taste.
Phoenix's Joker isn't really DC comics Joker though. Everyone keeps saying that but that movie throw in a few names from the comics (Wayne, Arkham Asylum,...) because of they didn't fare less people would have seen it. Joaquin Phoenix's Joker is based on Taxi Driver and King of Comedy, nothing from comics other than a few names. Phoenix's movie is about a man struggling with mental and emotional health and while living in a toxic society that fosters those issues. If they hadn't used a the few comics names than that movie would have still been a phenomenal film but an underappreciated cult classic similar to Requiem for a Dream, which is also about it mental and emotional health issues and substance abuse to deal with it.

Couple of things you guys misunderstood
-the guy pretending to be batman at the start, was part of a unit of cops pretending to be batman to try helping
- the coin harvey gave rachel was a coin with heads on both sides, so everytime he was flipping for something, he knew it would be heads, when rachel died, one side became tails so it became real coin flips
- bruce was trying to save rachel, but joker told him the opposite places, so if he went for harvey, he would have saved rachel, basically whichever choice batman wanted to make, it would end up being the opposite. Joker always wins. (Edit: just got to the part where ash explains it)

I've heard that Joker's reaction when the hospital didn't blow up right away was an unscripted reaction to the pyro malfunctioning.

He was so scary that the guy who played Alfred forgot his lines when he came in.

This is easily the best superhero film ever.
Watch Parnassus, too. His last movie. Always makes me cry watching it....
@@elricofmelnibone8256 I like Constantine more, true.
I think this movie (The Dark Knight) only has a few issues, but Heath's performance is SUCH a tremendous highlight, it makes me forget them.

Just because it's just SOOO much FUN!
Parnassus is such an underrated movie@@chanceneck8072
I love how Ash is like a kid in a candy store. He loves the film so much and just wants Hannah to love it as much as he does.
Ash trying not to spoil it for her is so sweet. But sometimes you can really see his pain.
I love Ash laughing at the people dying while Hannah’s traumatised 🤣🤣🤣
It's like watching his reactions to all the deaths on John Wick movies and the raid movies again 😂😂
Just like the movie.
Ash is going Joker wild and Hannah is in full on wtf mode.
Red wedding at 5 and Dark Knight at 7. Gonna be a good night 😂

How could one entirely focus on one after watching the other?
I saw Hancock in the cinema the same day that I saw Dark Knight in the cinema.
Hancock is a FANTASTIC movie. Sadly, of COURSE, this buried Hancock for me and society as a whole.
🤷♂️
Hannah: “You know what’s concerning Ash? That’s similar to how you react to destruction and killing”
Ash: “Yeah! 😀”
Heath Ledger gave his life to this portrayal of The Joker. Amazing performance from an amazing actor. RIP Mr. Ledger

None of the boat scenes? I think DeeBo throwing the detonator out the window is one of the most powerful scenes in the movie.
Rip Deebo😞
That scene is so powerful because it showed that the Jokers theory that people will descend to savagery when the chips are down was wrong and that what Batman was fighting for the whole time was that inspiring hope in people will make them do the right thing.
Didn't do his call in to the news about blowing up the hospital

I loved Harvey's two headed coin. He always felt in control because of it, but in the end, he learned that you can't control everything
That’s not true actually! They programmed the pause intentionally to make sure Heath had enough time to clear the explosion! He did ham it up though!
Certainly the best superhero movie ever made
It's not about superheroes because the characters don't have superpowers that's why it's great

@justtrustash Ash gave me a shout-out! 👊 Hell Yeah!!!!
Cutting out the ferry scenes is dicey. It shows the one time The Joker is proven wrong by the civilians. It’s important. But no Batman. So I get it
Come to think of it, the guy trying to blackmail Fox because of Batmans secret identity is also completely gone.
I bloody love Hannah and how hype and worked up she gets over the smallest things.

The scars on the joker’s face are called a Glasgow Smile. The Scottish actor Thomas Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy, Gladiator, has the real thing.
If you haven't watched it A Knights Tale was the first film I ever saw with Heath Ledger... well worth the watch. Got Robert Baratheon in it too

Jared Leto was better."_
Nah, I would hunt down whoever says such a thing.
Huh. Good analysis. I didn’t realize that’s what he was doing. I thought he was just being rude.
Wait he gave the wrong address? So Batman really was trying to save Rachel? I never understood this to be the case as a kid, time to rewatch

@@chronicler19
Hands down the best of the trilogy in my opinion. Of course Heath Ledger absolutely stole the movie with his amazing portrayal of "The Joker".

Some of the great portrayals of The Joker on screen have each leaned in to one the many facets that make up the character, which you guys also spoke about briefly too when talking about Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal compared to Heath Ledger’s; really showing how complex the psyche of this character is…
- Cesar Romero’s Joker: THE CLOWN
- Jack Nicholson’s Joker: THE GANGSTER
- Mark Hamill’s Joker: THE TRICKSTER
- Heath Ledger’s Joker: THE ANARCHIST
- Jared Leto’s Joker: THE PSYCHOPATH
- Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker: THE COMEDIAN
- Cameron Monaghan’s Joker: THE MANIAC

Heath Ledger is one of only 9 people to ever be nominated posthumously for acting and one of only 2 to ever win (the only other posthumous winner being Peter Finch, who won Best Actor for NETWORK (1976)) (both Finch and Ledger were coincidentally Australians).
In the comics there is actually a point when The Joker says: "I've made up so many of my stories I don't even know which one is true"
27:19. He even said “NOT exactly” I love the significance of that line. You find out later when he tosses the coin to Rachel. So many great throw backs.
There are very few characters as intense as Heath's joker. Every scene he was in, he just reached through the screen and grabbed you.
And Robert was just a better Batman, Bale the better Bruce Wayne but that could change in the future once we actually see Robert as Bruce Wayne more.
comparing The Dark Knight, Joker and The Batman is apples to oranges to pears lol. they're all phenomenal but for very different reasons.
I feel that Bale’s Batman is more of the enforcer protector one while Pattinson’s was more of the detective Batman.
@@talljohnsparky I feel like Bale and Affleck are the only Batmen we've seen (in live action) that truly embody how great of a strategist Bruce is. And after having both of those performances back to back it was super refreshing to see Pattinson's Batman come along and lean more into his skill as a detective.
Awesome reaction. Ash was losing his mind and Hannah yelped every 5 mins 😂
Fun fact, they flipped an actual semi for that shot with joker driving the truck. that is not CGI
Christian Bale's Batman voice was actually not as gruff when he was performing his role, it was edited in post-production to make it sound like this!
Another very interesting film starring Heath is Brothers Grimm, I'd recommend watching that at some point!
Man I had such a crush on Heath back then. He was especially great in this and Brokeback. Stars like him burn so bright. I’m still sad we lost his.
"I felt sorry for him and now I feel sorry for him about his wife even though I know he's lying!" Hannah starting on her Harley Quinn path.
41:41 Hannah's "Why?!" had me dead 😂
When you think about it Rachel died thinking Bruce chose to save Dent instead of Rachel thats absolutely devastating.
I'd think she would be relieved? One that the guy she chose lived & two that her oldest friend did what they both thought was right for the city?
I don’t see it that way, especially considering at that point Rachel had already chosen Dent, and there was a possibility her choosing Dent would cause Bruce to lose his faith in people.
Honestly, I believe had Joker not switched the addresses and Batman saved her over Dent, Rachel may have come to resent Bruce because she would’ve saw his decision as selfish… which it was, tbh.
She was a two-timer anyway. Begone thot 🔥
So glad I finally got to see this in theaters, it elevated this movie to one of my favorites. The first half is immaculately written, where literally every line furthers either character development or plot development or is a setup for something that pays off in the second half. Pure cinema.

The m18 smoke grenade heats up during operation. Like hell. In about 15 seconds this guy will wish it was an offensive grenade. An explosion kills much faster than burns...
Hannah (for once) actually missed a crucial detail when she says Harvey always had it in him to kill. Prior to the explosion his coin was double-headed so he was in control of his actions
This is not to say that Harvey didn’t have an aggressive edge to him as he clearly did, but the Joker manipulated this into lethal force
"And there's idiots that think The Batman is better than this. SHUT UP!" - You just got another sub.
29:25 she totally missed the point that Harvey wasn't gonna kill that dude in the alley because, there's no Tails on that coin. I'm surprised Ash didn't mention it.

I love the behind the scenes of heath ledger skateboarding in full costume doing kick flips over Batman 😂
That *”LOOK AT ME”* is still one of the scariest phrases I’ve ever heard from a villain.
This movie is so well written, all the lines are legendary
The part with the joker and Rachael at the dinner was also improvised, her react was real and actually freaked out
46:00 I think I heard somewhere that this part right here was another brilliantly improvised moment by the late & great GOAT, Heath Ledger! 🔥🐐🔥
This is my favorite movie of all time! Heath absolutely gives the best performance ever put to film! RIP to a legend
03:26 "Is he not like an agent or something"?
It's funny how Hannah thought the bank manager was an agent when he actually played an Agent in Prison Break. XD
Love this guys sinister laughter/look when he knows the lines/scenes are coming up makes this JUST as enjoyable!!
Can’t believe it’s been 15 years since this LEGENDARY PIECE OF ART came out!🤯

The hospital scene was actually a mistake. The explosions stopped, and Heath just waited to see what would happen.
Also, Heath's parents watched his walk out of the building and it reminded them of how he walked as a little boy.
You guys should definetely watch Heat (1995) from Micheal Mann which had a big influence on The Dark Knight et Nolan's movies in general.
