There actually exists an updated version of this phone - Samsung Galaxy Beam 2. It was released on 2014 and based on a Galaxy S4 design. It might be worth to take a look at it in a future video
There is (was) a smartphone called Quantum V, from around 2019. I don't know much about it, but I think it was a white label sold in Brazil. The protector-thing was much better than galaxy beam gen 1.
This is the sad part about the smartphone market: They’ve stopped innovating. We used to get phones with projectors, actual telescoping cameras, and so much more. But there are very few phones specifically designed around that kind of purpose today. It’s sad
Well back then they don’t know the target market, so they experience it like this unique phone, and now they know that it’s all fail, they just stick to the normal phone company only want money 🤷♂️

This projector gets the job done pretty well. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxS9P8zTOcmQg-hH0QeUi3dspOLyYgQ6dH Bear in mind it's a mini projector but all things considered the picture quality is pretty good. The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.
I’ve always wanted a projector and until my tv broke I only used it to stream stuff off my phone. Having that feature built into a modern phone would be awesome
The projector case is actually genius, you still able to make the most out of your phone while still have an option for the projector, I wonder what other case they could make
I just don't think phone projectors make much sense over conventional mini/pocket projectors. especially with the needed comprimises. - Small projectors use DLP technology rather than the more bulky and cheaper LCD, this alone will certainly account for majority of the phone's price. - Even small projectors have fans in them, I assume this is because the lamp inside generates a lot of heat, this will sacrifice waterproofing. Brightness is one of the largest factors when shopping for projectors, you want something that isn't dim and will allow for good contrast and screen size. Better cooling = brighter light source. Even the pocket projectors today suffer from poor brightness in ideal conditions. - Yes, its built in, or stuck to the back of your phone. But what if you want to upgrade? Why not just have something that can connect to every device (now and in the future), having a hdmi port built into a phone will be chunky, or requiring an adapter that you have to carry around. All this chunkiness adds to less room for features or improvements, even for modular phones. - Projectors are just not as good as traditional displays (at this price and type). You need a good surface, good lighting, and good positioning (maybe a tripod). The image can only be as dark as the surface... vice versa. How often are you in a situation that would make you use your phone projector rather than a common TV or monitor with the ability to provide much better viewing experiences, let alone having a good surface to project on. Projectors that do well in even normal lighting conditions cost more than your typical phone, even then they are using special projector screens that brighten the image. I draw it parellel to new cars with graphics cards in them, playing demanding games on them is cool, but it won't be used as often as a traditional gaming setup and wont be as good as one either.

I used to have this phone back when it was released. So much so that I enjoyed it. The only caveat here is that, the video player on this phone doesn’t allow you to project 1080p movies during that time. I hope another version of this phone will be released again.
The beam was…. Interesting… it’s biggest flaw was that it was a rebadge of a one to two year old phone Samsung had already released… To put it in a modern perspective, imagine of Samsung took an A series from 2020 stuck s projector on it and sold it as a “new” phone. The bean was behind on everything from specs to the software at the time when android was really starting to take off and every update was quantum leap over the last one.
Have an A series from 2020, and it works perfectly fine. -The A01 and A11 from '20 might have issues, though.- EDIT: The source I used when posting had apparently swapped the specs of these two with an older device. Also, UA-cam app, why are you not wrapping formatted text?
Motorola Droid a good job with the Z series. I still have mine with 4 mods and they still work. Used the projector couple months ago when power was out. Good video, keep them coming.....
If Samsung made a Projector add-on for, lets say, the S22 Plus/Ultra, and It had a way to let external devices send video to it (over the USB-C Piggy-back type connector, or a mini/micro HDMI port), I would buy it!
Because Samsung built a projector inside the Beam, they had to compromise on the specs, so, on release, it was already outdated. Consider that, during that time, phones were smaller in size than they are now. Much smaller.
Niche phones with a specialty feature are an incredibly tough sell. After all, most people would prefer to buy regular phones, and as you've shown, the end product would need some compromises due to the extra room needed for the components. Makes more sense to buy a separate, portable projector. And these days there are models that support wireless projections from phones.
I loved these as it eliminated the need for big bulky items like tv sets and cables everywhere plus with these phones you could stream a movie on a wall how sweet is that‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Wassup iPhone guru I’ve been here for a while and I love these long videos Ty for making them and ty for being the best your inspiration for me opening my old phone
Yes. I wish they would release a Samsung projector case for the S23 Ultra phone! Imagine 2160p60fr video being projected onto a wall! That would be amazing!
Had a Beam myself and enjoyed it til it couldn't breathe anymore. Less than 1GB RAM and 1 GHz processor wouldn't get you anywhere. Can't say they were a failure as Beam 2 was released but only in China. If I had the opportunity, I'd buy one with updated specs, thickness and camera isn't much a big deal for me.
Having a projector in a phone is a really epic idea because its compact and easy to move and it would be super useful for watching youtube or anything else.
Samsung Battery's have a heating and exploding problem. Just imagine what would projector do if it exists in samsung phones or any smartphones. It's a good idea but risky one
the buttons might be soldered to the phone, but they just have some weak-ish adhesive under them, which you can remove, so the buttons aren't stuck to the housing anymore.
In the case of Moto it was not just a case but a "moto mod" like you said, a module. I used to have the Moto Z that supported this and other modules such as a Jbl speaker and a Hasselblad camera with 10x optical zoom which was total perfection
You can’t see why these didn’t succeed??? Brother, there is NO demand for the supply. It’s a cool concept and I’d love to buy one just for the novelty but nobody needs this, now, and not when they were made. There’s been large TVs, standard projectors, up to date technology in any kind of office setting and most settings you’re already in. I hate the point of using a projector on your phone when you already have a decently sized much better quality tv in your living room???
With streaming options like chromecast Idk I can't say I'd really PAY extra on a phone just for a projector but, like a case that would be significantly cheaper and would have eventual 3rd party options I'd consider it
This isn't really like a flagship feature but more like a cool feature on a 300-500$ phone to make it more attractive. And it might even induce some flagship owners to buy it as a separate phone. Frankly though, it's better as a phone accessory that can be plugged in to the USB port
So sad to see them go it was a good concept that if you were watching something to start a project in your phone would be seamless and get a big screen
A modern LED can easily generate the necessary luminous flux for a decent projector, allowing for a external projector module to be used in an obscured room for delivering a presentation or watching a movie with the family. It is a niche product anyway, because large TVs are nowadays cheaper than a professional projector phone...
I'd love a phone with a projector, as long as I can use the USB C connector as a video in port. That way, I'd be able to use my phone as a mobile projector that plugs into anything that has DP or HDMI
I don't know about Samsung, I moved from apple to android and bought Tank2 phone, you can't imagine how fun it is to have a phone with projector, also the night vision in this phone is amazing, costs 1/3 of Samsung or iPhone, the downside is since it looks different from the phones that most of the people have, it draws attention to you which I do not like and some times could be dangerous.
these is not a huge market for projector too..... Many people just does not like/want to try it. it is kinda sad for me but I just purchased a used HW15 and I will try it later. lets see how well it works XD
it is impossible to have a projector inside of an iPhone while maintaining its thickness. a projector module consists of 3 lcds, prisms and a LED light source. until we find a way to integrate them tightly, I dont think it will work/happen anytime soon.
I feel like there's not really a reason to have a projector and a phone combination because... If you just want a bigger screen a lapdock (phone dock in the form of a laptop) would generally be alot more of a easy to set up just anywhere and if you want a on the go movie theater experience you likely have enough room to set up a portable projector and hook a phone to that. As neat of a idea as this was. I don't buy the conference presentation mode because generally your office would have a projector anyway or you would have enough room to setup the aforementioned separate mini projector. (I've used the Motorola case projector before and I can easily say I probably would nowadays use a mini projector)
Hey PRG. Been here for a while. As much as this was a cool phone, they should of invested more into a actual full thin projector system as a gadget type phone would of been more convenient and would of boosted sales more. However, it still wouldn’t budge these days, especially when phones are bigger and notches are smaller.
if the case was under 100 usd i would def get it, plus like i could use my note's stylus as some sort of remote. would be so nice for on the go movie/show time with friends.
still have this phone other then a nearly dead battery (luckily replacements are easy to find), interesting conversation piece though the projector on the phone .. though the version l i got was completely white with a chrome trim
The Moto mods for the Moto Z series were great. They weren't really "cases" but an add-on of sorts using magnetic pins on the back of the phone. Kinda like if Magsafe had physical pins to communicate with your phone for power/data.
And to think I was amazed with the S5 with its built-in IR blaster to surreptitiously change the channels of the TVs in the bar when I didn't want to watch Jersey Shore. Yes, this was a problem in the bar I was in at the time. Now, this is a feature I'd like to have back in a newer Samsung phone! I'd rather watch some NFL football right now than the inevitable England team beating Senegal!
The Motorola you mentioned also had a big speaker attachment instead of the projector. I think it had a third attachment but i cannot remember what it was
