As one who witnesses many ultras events, the reasons can be many from provocative to the celebration, and sometimes you can't tell a difference even if you are from the same team. The best way I could describe being ultra is like being in an army with your brothers in arms and focused on one goal. This is somewhat how the army is trained to a point where you become one and just like a tornado clear anything on your path.

I've seen a lot of these reactions and what people always miss is the prohibited sign with the knife.
There's an unwritten rule that you don't bring a weapon to the game.
If you do even your own fans might beat the shit out of you.
Anything "salvaged" from the stadium is fair game though.
Just saying, this is VERY important in all of this.

For you guys sport means go to the Stadium seat down with a soda and popcorn to relax and enjoy the game maybe seated next to a rival team's fan. For us it is not a sport. It is a war. It is a religion, it is Honor, it is a way of life. We go to the Stadium to be the 6th player in the basket or the 12th player in football etc ... We go to defend our City from the invaders. We are way too much. We cross the border. It is extremely dangerous to go to the Stadium many times. We do not take kids many times. Too much brother.

    Yes that's riot gear.
On that specific sequence they are the away team so the empty spaces are for safety measures to prevent the fans from reaching each other.
The rivalry between some clubs, especially clubs from the same city can date 100 years or more back in time.

or in some cases, like serbia and croatia, it is not just rivaly, those matches, especialy during war time and not so long after war too often had to be held without fans at all, actually the first sign that those countries will be in war was duringg footbal match in 1990 and when player zvonimir boban was almost shot in back by police officer, he had that order to shot him, he refused, dont quite remeber what actualy led to thast coz i was only 8 years old, but yeah football matches in europe often got political rivaly, national, some grudges and stuff are often solved there....

For whom you travel up to 70-80 or even 100 km. And that the people you support the team with are not only your acquaintances, but your second family.

Eastern Europe doesn't really like FIFA because FIFA looks at everything through money and profit. That's why we have our clubs and this is our way of having fun, we are another player in our team, we give our heart and soul, why? Because my father, my grandfather and everyone in the house did it and we will never stop showing what can be done and that no money can buy us.
Ok, think about this, we who go to the stadium and pay for the ticket have no influence on the club, so why should we go to the stadium and why should we cheer, when I go to the cinema I choose which movie to watch, not the cinema, right?
    And for FIFA rules,
For me, it's the same as if I came to your house and told you how to behave, what to eat and what to wear. That's bullshit, it's your house and your
    rules.

I went to a high school playoff game a few weeks ago and, in my opinion, the visiting team's student section had a lot to do with their team winning the game. Even before the game started they were super loud and chanting. I think their energy transferred to the rest of the fans, then to the players as well, which translated into their team making more big plays. 😎
