This is one of the first calls I’ve herd of someone working through school .
Well done 👍🏻
Really? I do this and so do my friends and classmates
Finding a cheap school is key!
@@John3.36 I went to school for Free, my mom told me that America was great because you can
get a free college education.
all my siblings and I are university educated.
That’s not the way it should work in the US
You can tell which callers are gonna do well and which don’t have a clue and this one is pretty sharp he’s gonna do well long term
Unless you are a D-1 scholarship athlete, or get some type of artistic, or academic scholarship...you're insane not to do your 1st 2 years at a community college.
Wrong
Your right...it saves money usually then transfer to an in state public university to get your BA. This is how smart people with money do it when you cant get scholarships and dont want student loans.
I did community college for 2 years. 10000 dollars for 4 semesters. Then transferd to in state school. 20000 for 2 more years. In all 30k...
Mark G that’s right, these kids get “star struck “ and go to these expensive private colleges and big universities that they can’t afford and are overpriced! I told my son that he was going to the community college first , it was 15 minutes away on the bus from our house. He graduated and transferred his credits to the state college and will be graduating in 2020 and will get his bachelors degree. The college tuition is $3,500 per semester! These young people and their parents needs to wise up! Employers want a college degree, they don’t care which college u graduated from! Yes it’s impressive to go to a Ivy League college, but they mainly hire based on qualifications, work history and the degree if it’s required. No sense getting in debt of $50,000 plus for a designer college name! 🙄
Joshua congratulations it’s a great investment for your future. With a 5 year plan u can pay that debt off ! It’s better than some people I know at work who are in debt with $80,000 -$100,000 student loan debt (bachelors and masters degrees)!
I ran into the same issue, more work means less studying, especially depending on certain majors that can be more intense. There is no easy fix to keep good grades and make more money aside from just hustling till you find a better income while keeping hours worked low. Pizza delivery isn’t always an option, some people don’t have cars and in my case I ended up wearing out the transmission. I agree he’s got the right idea just has to keep going and not get discouraged
He can deliver pizzas 45 days a week and make $1.2M per month! 😋
Huh???
On what planet are the weeks 45 days?
@@exceldetail lol
@@exceldetail he was being sarcastic, I'm not going to be spending $2000 on a car to go and deliver pizza and make $1200 a month...
@@retiredmanager510 He's clearly being funny.
Why does Dave think pizza delivery 4 nights a week makes 1500 a month. I don't know anyone that makes that much a month delivering pizzas.
lol and also there's so many people doing Uber eats and door dash that you'll be lucky to get half of 1500 a month .
9INE PLANETS do you have to have some kind of insurance or are there any expenses you have to pay to do this? It sounds like you worked really hard to build this up. Nice!
@@mitchell9937 you hustle
@9INE PLANETS Whoa. That is some good hustle. It seems like a self-employment is the way to go, nowadays.
Guy: "I'm having financial problems."
Dave: "Have you ever heard of Pizza?"
LordUzaki lol
Work full time and school part time. That’s what I did.
I am currently doing full time both, it's definitely doable you just need to drive to. I thought about doing part time school while doing full time work, and I didn't want to prolong the "struggle" of working an ok job for my area but nowhere near what my career would be making me. 2 more years left 🤞
There is some degrees that have class coursework which has you literally in class all the time. Your spare time is classroom time. Some students do not have the ability to work part time during the school year, grades will suffer. Summer time is the only option to make money
InsideOutside UpsideDown I agree with you, and that’s especially true at the graduate level in any discipline. However, the average college student can work at least 10 hours. A lot of students are a little lazy to work and they’re not all science majors
Or work full time and do school full time. I did it with both my bachelors (2010) and masters (2018) while also volunteering.
Elizabeth Womack me too! I had a family, mortgage and spouse and worked full time and went to college part-time. Went to the community college first and transferred to the state college! I have my bachelors degree! It a sacrifice and took hard work and wasn’t easy but I was determined to finish! Guess what I don’t have any college loan debt because my job offers tuition reimbursement of $5,000 per year! These kids have to get wiser and decide what is the priority!
Working too much can impact your performance. Sometimes it’s better to go part time for a while.
Malika
Some of us didn’t go to school to work less and party.
BlackWorldTraveler okay and? The young man said he failed a semester by working too much and not having enough time to dedicate to his studies. Your comment does not address my comment. It’s not about partying
Malika: you are right. Not everyone can glance at a book, have it all memorized instantly and pass all classes. I was an elementary education major, music minor. I not only had to prepare lessons for classes but I have to keep preparing for my violin lessons and perform. How did I do that and maintain a grade point avg. above 1.1? I didn't. I had an on campus job delivering newsletters a few hours a week. I walked down the street to a doctors house to vacuum his rugs and load the dishwasher one day a week. I couldn't take any more hours than that.
Roxanne Gordon thanks for sharing. studies show that after 20 hours, students’ grades begin to suffer. Up to 20 hours of work, students grades are ok/actually are enhanced. Probably because a little work helps you manage your time.
Anon there are other majors you did not include. It’s not for you to decide either because you haven’t taken every major.
Dave & team, I have never once left a UA-cam comment in the history of UA-cam - but, this video was absolutely incredible! “I like guys like you, scratching and clawing to get ahead. You’re going to be alright.” Needed to hear it
Glad to hear other students are trying to do this! If you want some tips from a student doing this right now, I'll be making a lot more videos on this topic going forward!!
*I believe there is some possibility that Dave underestimates the relative easy of paying for full-time college with the money one makes from back in his youth to now the average income of someone without a degree or much job experience has not increased nearly at the rate that the cost of college and these overpriced text books that your may or may not use.* 💪🌚
I think Dave's underestimation is an attempt to combat the exaggerations from the other side of the argument. Choose an inexpensive school, work a full-time and part-time job during the summer months, part- or full-time during school, make use of grants/scholarships, live at home if possible or with multiple roommates, buy your books online or secondhand, keep expenses to an absolute bare minimum, etc. and cash flowing school can definitely be done. His is the one voice trying to combat all of those saying it can't be done, so I can understand why he tries to make it sound simpler than it might be in reality.
@@mosiah3177 yeah that does make sense
I purchased a book one generation older than the book required at school. That cut costs down a bunch
There’s hope for this generation. With work ethics that this young man displayed, he’ll certainly make it in this world.
I want to see a video of Dave spending a month delivering Pizza’s in the evening in an average neighbourhood and making $1500 to show how it’s done. Talk the talk, walk the walk.
True that
Thank you for your sanity. The comment section is a boomer insane asylum.
Dave never says, "get a job with a company that includes tuition reimbursement as a benefit." I'm not sure why he never mentions this FREE College option. That's how I graduated with my 4-year degree: 100% tuition-free and 100 shares of company stock as a kicker when I graduated. There are plenty of companies that provide tuition assistance as a benefit: just look it up. You work during the day/night and go to school during the alternate day/night and summers. Or, you can work three jobs and pay your own cash money or go deep into debt. Personally, I like FREE stuff.
c103110a
Dave can’t hold you hand and do everything for you.
Good idea. I believe Chipotle and Starbucks do this
What type of job was it that gives you the stock options as well? Have not heard of that piece before for people working while in school?
@@lesliek7776 United Technologies Corporation (UTC). They offer really great benefits !
I am about to go back to school for my bachelor's degree after working full time after an associate degree. This really helps, thanks.
Gotta be delivering pizzas in the rich part of town.

Kids are a blessing, but we should never suggest for those not ready to have children. That's the number one reason for poverty in the US
T J Hey! I agree with you 100%. For me personally, I want to have kids and adopt too. But I am waiting. But those who already have kids and working really hard to better their family’s lives should be encouraged and not be defined by their choices.

Deliver pizzas. Cut grass. Dog walking. Dave grasping for solutions.
He's flunking out cause he has no time to study.
teeduck this is why you can’t work full time and go to school full time. One will suffer
I am going into my senior year in college and I have maintained a 3.83 GPA while working 30 to 40 hours a week throughout all of college. Debt free as a result, and it is completely possible. However, one will suffer without question. The important question that every person has to ask themselves, do you want to suffer for 4 to 5 years, or the rest of your life?
When I was in college I worked full time from 10:00PM- 7:00AM and took classes in AM then slept 3-4 hours for PM classes
Best thing was my employer paid my tuition!
@9INE PLANETS Depends what you're going to college for. Easy majors like business or communications, not much studying required. Something in the STEM field, that's a completely different situation.
Did he say $350/month for Rent? 🤯
Yayy Areaa he does have two roommates
Yes - it's Nebraska

Agreed. Not worth it to sacrifice your social life and sanity.
My guess is Dave will tell him Rice and beans 🤔
Rice and pasta
Nope
Investing Hustler ramen noodles , a college kids “caviar “ 🤣
I’m 18 and I just finished my first semester of community college while working full time and just payed it off. It was challenging but I pulled through. It’s difficult because my grades started to decline and my job wanted me to do 60 hour work weeks. With finals coming up I knew I had to leave my job so I could have the time and energy to prepare.
Dyllon London Try going to school part time
He needs a “side hustle “ to supplement his income 🤷🏾♀️ my son is a full time student, works for part time for the parks . But he also has a side hustle selling merchandise on eBay. He searches at thrift shops in middle class areas and finds great clothes & apparel. A lot of designer and new things too. Has a website and use PayPal. Young people today have an advantage with UA-cam and the internet to make money! It’s amazing! This young man needs to regroup and just needs to follow this gentleman’s advice! Wish him the best!
Christian _person Your son sounds very motivated. How much do you think he averages per month on the reselling clothing gig? Did that take him a long time to get up and going?
I was a full time student while working 40
Hours a week as a bank manager in the 80’s my rent was almost $1000 a month. Although I respect his work as noble helping the elderly. He needs to grow up and get a real job.
What was your major? also bank manager doesn't sound like an entry level job that is commonly attained by a sophomore in college, at least not very common today.
I put myself through school at a community college living on my own... before Uber and Lyft. This generation has it easy to find work on your terms
Frankie’s Mom what kind of jobs did you do while in school?
He should get his cna and work over nights or weekend doubles which usually pay more, at that facility. Make more money. Or work from home. But he sounds like he’s on the right track, and not being dumb with going to an expensive school to do left handed puppetry.
Jersey nurse what time would a weekend double shift start and end? Curious. Sounds like a good plan.
Thank God 🙏 he said Advertising & PR. He just needs to make more income to cash flow his college.
Sounds like it’s time to roll up those sleeves, maybe try some Uber/Lyft.
It’s not gonna be fun lol.
Uber and Lyft can be fun💪😂
When you consider the amount of time and cost of wear and tear on your car, Uber/Lyft is actually a terrible gig unless you're in a low income bracket and getting a substantial tax refund.
Solfay243 exactly
I didn't even here him say he has a car, so driving might not be an option
For a different perspective, in Sweden not only is college tuition free, but you're paid about $20,000 a year to go to college (that number may be be different now--that's about what it was when I lived there in the early 1990s). This is true all the way through medical school. Childcare through medical school is all tuition free. And their childcare is different. It's run by people with master's degrees in developmental psychology. And if there is any field in which you cannot find an equivalent university in Sweden they pay for all of your expenses to study abroad (which my cousin who lived in Sweden took advantage of to study at Columbia University with all his tuition and living expenses paid for by Sweden).
To me this is one of those situations like when George W. Bush told a single mother who was working three jobs, "Uniquely American, itn't it?" as if it was a badge of honor.
It may be a badge of honor, but it's also just a really stupid system.
Also no one is going to pay an intern in advertising well (or at all). Experience in advertising is what gets you a job in advertising. Even after graduating you'll have a hard time finding a good paying job in the field you chose right off the bat. That's a field where you need to build up a portfolio.
Stick with nursing care and ask for a raise!
How many people would have to order pizzas that can make a delivery person $1,500 a month?

Mr. Wick I knew it
I can really resonate with this guy. Hope he's getting by.
where would he put the lawn mower if he lives in an apartment? I'm allergic to dogs. I don't think delivering pizza pays that much. plus you gotta consider gas and extra maintenance and car repairs
In a room
When I attended college in the 80s, I was able to pay cash for the Bachelor's degree by working Friday and Saturday nights waitressing/bartending. It left plenty of time to study, while earning enough for state school tuition. Some jobs would require too many hours of working, and not enough for studying. It was quite a sacrifice to unable to ever socialize on the weekends, but absolutely worth it! My mistake was then taking out student loans for law school, but that's another story.
Since when does tuition at a public university run only $9k a year? Maybe in Nebraska but not remotely true in many states. Pretty sure my in-state tuition was more like $25k - $30k per year.
This video was just what I needed ! Thank you thank you thank you !
not everyone can be a genius and or handle working fulltime and school fulltime. you still need sleep. at least 5 to 6 hours for me. I can't function without sleep and you add a job there when I come home almost midnight then have to up by 6 for school? forget about homework lol it only so much you can sacrifice but sleep is dangerous to neglect especially if u drive

That's awesome. Are you a driver? What kind of schedule do you work to get all those hours in and go full time to school? Im impressed!
@@lesliek7776 I don't know about the other guy, but I work in the hub and load packages. I can basically work as many hours as I want because they are always short staffed, especially this time of year-- works well for school.
You do not work 60 hours a week while being a full time student.
I took literally one class a semester for 10 years to get my masters degree taking summers off and stopping for two years during that time.
Dave really knows how to speak with Young PPL without any 'dad talk', nor 'when I was your age..'
Yup... I would have said, "Man up. Get a full time job and do your school work. Work a night job... not that hard."
I simply could not focus all my effort on school while doing that
For most, college ranges from a poor to a horrible choice.
"If you have a high school diploma and can walk and talk...you can graduate from college"
Dean of Education, Jerome Murphy, Harvard
Due to low standards and racism aka Affirmative Action, the real world correctly judges college degrees, with select exceptions, as less valuable, due to their diminished validity
"Hey their Johnny high school senior....your 2.7 GPA and SAT score in the top 87th percentile is impressive! Useless Degree U has a program for you." Admissions Officer
Common...we all know scores of mechanics, construction workers and more ten times smarter and ready for the world than many a "collegiate scholar"
Jerome Murphy's statement makes it appear that no one has an excuse not to get a degree which just translates to everyone *needing* a degree for work. Hence the dilution of educational attainment which translates to college perhaps being a "horrible choice" for most, but even worse than that a "required choice" for most. I'm not talking about high cost private college degrees either, just any college degree.
That is a great caveat. Thank you for the added nuance. It does appear that some work is expecting more college education where none is required to complete the work well, in my opinion. Admin jobs or general scheduling jobs. I might go so far as most jobs that involve negotiating (short of large companies dealing nationally). Yes, there is some advantage to having a college education to doing the work, but that is by no means a necessity for it.
(a) change majors (b) get a scholarship
He’s on the right track just needs a higher paying job.. I guess it hard in Nebraska to work p/t and school and make over 18 a hour?
Sir We Are About to Die I know he’s doing good even if he gets his bachelors and now making more $ with just 8k in loans that’s not bad at all
Where does Dave think you can make $1,500 a month delivering pizzas?
Hes an arrogant boomer who has never worked physical labor in his life.
He can work fulltime at McDonald's and they'll help pay for school.
What does Dave recommend for those who are not college bound. Seems he breezed through it. Not everyone can do that. Guy should hit up some people at his church, you'll be surprised how much people will donate for your schooling!!
