      Am a senior in high school and I have always struggle with math my whole life and I look into pre-med for college and I'll have to take calculus and trigonometry. I am wondering if I can major in something else that will still give me to prerequisites to apply for medschool?

    • @SeanOchiagha
      @SeanOchiagha 5 років тому +31

      Alejandro, you can major in anything as a pre-med from exercise science, to English, religion, to biology. It does not matter what so ever and you should do something that you're truly passionate about. You can complete the preqs as any major!

    I’m on my last year of med school here at Ontario! Woohoo 🙌🏼 🎉
    If you’re thinking of going to med school, DO IT! I made lots of friends that I think will last a lifetime, it’s a great environment, although sometimes it will feel like it’s beyond your knowledge, but don’t give up just because of that, it’s a rewarding experience as the years go by! And good luck!
    Ain’t no baby OTW going to stop me from achieving my dreams of being a doctor! It was definitely an unplanned pregnancy but my friend who is the father of our child is definitely going to help me through it all hopefully, but I know for sure my sister and family will 😆, I was pregnant at 16, a mother at 17, I still graduated high school, college, and university, so I believe I can still achieve my MD even if I have an infant with me.
    I so can’t wait for next year!

    Medical school was one of the best years of my life. It was easier and more fun than college because I studied things I was actually interested in for my future. Yes Step 1 was a pain to study for but it was an easier exam than the MCAT. Third year was great because you actually got to see and learn from patients. Medical school was definitely a breeze compared to residency!

    He’s right. Med school was some of the best years of my life. Getting to dissect cadavers in first year, learn physical exam skills in second year, see patients in third and fourth years, and scrub in on surgeries. It was demanding and rigorous, with all the lectures, labs, studying, and exams, but an enjoyable journey all the same.

      I found that it was easy because many of those people you will be with the whole 4 years. It's good to connect with them because you can get useful knowledge and help with your peers. It would be a little harder in medical school if you didn't make good relations with your peers and professors, and I wouldn't really recommend it.

    • @hawkeyepierce7035
      @hawkeyepierce7035 Рік тому +1

      Actually, yes. To be honest, in undergrad, premeds can be annoying. A lot of them are high-strung, grade-obsessed, cutthroat individuals who are only out for themselves. Often, they have no real interest in the classes they’re taking. It’s just something they have to check a box next to so they can get into med school. Ditto for volunteer work, research, shadowing, etc… Once you get to med school, everyone is more chill and willing to help each other out. By then, it’s a mentality of all being in the same boat.

Similar exams and pressure though. Residency applications back then were via the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Probably similar to the current setup. It was like military boot camp…I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything but I wouldn’t want to repeat it either.

    Wow. I didn’t know US med school system was so different, interesting video. Here in Perú, we do 03 years of university based lectures -> 03 years of clinical practice -> 01 year of internship = 07 years before leaving mes school and getting a MD. After that, we spend 01 year working on rural communities. An finally we apply for residency, which can take 03-05 years depending on the specialty.

    I am literally a freshman in highschool and I want to be either an orthopedic surgeon or an cardiologist. Am I the only who is kinda of excited for the work the comes with med school? Like although it’s a lot of work and studying, your learning new things and the process and you are going to sound hella smart when your talking to patients and othe r people. I am kinda scared but not at the same time cause it’s all a part of a the process.

    Although Step 1 was difficult to prepare for, it was a simpler test than the MCAT. The third year was fantastic because you got to interact with and observe people. Medical education was undoubtedly much easier than training!
