As a battleblock theater speedrunner and router, some of the things you discovered on your own without asking any of the speedrunners is quite incredible.
Yooo thanks! I’ve definitely seen your name on a couple wrs. I was really obsessed with speedrunning a good few years ago and this game was caught in the crossfire at some point, so I was pretty familiar with a bunch of tech going into the challenge. Kinda need a dang lot to do jumpless lol
Dude I’ve never seen BattleBlock theater like this before. Making it into an insane puzzle game, I can’t even comprehend how difficult and complex these are especially the “block deletion part” that was insane
Oh yeah this game is insanely mechanically deep. I tried my best to do it justice in this challenge, but you could dedicate an entire pannenkoek type channel around this game
@@SampleChample Also can we give a huge shoutout to the unreal performance and cooperation this must’ve took. Respect, to you and Alec. This was insane… on both ends. Very happy that the game is getting more attention now.
Whenever I watch these, there’s always a few turning points of “Okay, some standard tech”, to “Okay, that’s pretty clever. Looks like he’s pretty good at this”, to “Is Sample… a genius or something?”
Easily the most fun I’ve had scriptwriting. We didn’t work everything out while actually playing, but it was super satisfying to look back and develop an actual working theory.
@@SampleChample The fact you did those final levels without a full theory may be even more impressive. It had to be pretty decently formed to form a plan based on dancing back and forth with the spawn points, right? Otherwise that would be crazy fly by the seat of your pants insanity.
I have returned once more in order to say that despite the amount of views your videos have nowadays, you are STILL underrated in my eyes. Keep up the fantastic work!
Battleblock is one of my favorite games of all time, and you don’t understand how happy it makes me to be able to see new content from it. I always thought that this game was a gem that faded from peoples minds over time, so I can’t express how happy I am to be able to see people play it again
Great battletoads video dude, way better than anything you’ve made since, not that it’s bad, better than what I could do, but you can’t top perfection.
Just a little fun fact at 26:52 if you didn't wanna stand on the edge of the block the dart gun is somewhat useful as it sticks to walls for a few minutes, so just use the first lava block aim at the wall land on the dart, I think shove gives you enough height to get you up to the ladder
this is your best work seriously. the way you pick apart this game to pull off something this crazy is mindblowing and simultaneously super entertaining
I remember, as a kid, I would just watch a comp video of all the Battleblock Theater cutscenes and I quoted it all the time. I didn’t even know it was a game. I just loved those fucking cutscenes
these are the type of challenge runs i love not just people suffering but people suffering and creating innovative and cool solutions to solve every small problem
As a veteran of the coop speedrun this was an absolute joy to watch, and seeing someone else go through the process of figuring out the respawn system was weirdly cathartic :P Keep it up, love your content ❤
ayo I’ve seen your name on a wr speedrun or two! Speedruns in general were a huge inspiration for this video and my challenge running in general (battleblock was my first “challenge” game), so it’s super cool that you enjoyed!
I haven't thought about Battleblock in a good couple of years, so I'm very happy to have been recommended a video about it, especially one as well made as this. Great video, earned a subscribe from me, as well as to Alec, and I hope you guys keep up such great content!
Your work is an absolute delight to watch and I know for a fact I will be coming back to this video in the forseeable future. Please keep up what you do, it's beautiful in every way. Now to watch part 2 electric boogaloo
I know I've already commented but I've been watching this again and I felt compelled to add that I really like your commentary and humor. In all your content too, not just exclusively this video. Your voice has a nice quality to it that makes watching and listening to your videos an overall nice experience. And your jokes are solid and get me audibly laughing at times (The fan and vacuum thing killed me when I first watched this). So yeah, great stuff dude
I have a challenge idea! It's been an idea I've been considering doing myself, but I'm unsure if I'm unhinged enough to actually try it. I'd love to see if unlocking all treasure pods in Slime Rancher 1 & 2 is possible WITHOUT the jetpack! Slime Rancher 1 seems pretty feasible with some exceptions, such as those located on islands in the slime sea, but I'm honestly unsure if you can even ACCESS entire areas of Slime Rancher 2 through normal means. The only thing that makes me think it's possible is the new "Gadgets My Way" update! You seem to be the right kinda insane, so I hope ya give this challenge some consideration!
I adore your channel. You use Zero Escape music, your jokes and delivery is on point, and editing is amazing. Also very clever use of the custom stage creation to demonstrate how these things work. I’m always excited to see your videos! Battleblock theater has a fond place in my heart as I played it with my brother on the old Xbox 360. Thank you for the chaos!
I think this might be your best video. I've loved your others but this one was a perfect mix of humour, satisfying puzzle solving and awe inspiring skill and teamwork. Just watching you guys tag team through Chapter 7 was amazing. Well done both of you.
22:40 i would guess it is because when you die, the game removes your hitbox, allowing you to move through anything, but you're dead so it doesnt matter. Then, before the game realizes that you're dead and shouldnt be able to hold the block anymore, the explosion launches you up and then the game says "NO, dont do that!", allowing you and the block to move up exactly one space... to be fair i know nothing about battleblock theater and this is pure speculation but yk
yeyeye I think you’re basically right. If I had to guess, I’d say that the order of actions within the frame of death is this: the player is moved up one block (which takes the block with it), a spawner is placed at the player’s position (which spawns the bones and whatnot at the elevated position), and then the player is deleted (which releases the block at the elevated position). The only reason it requires explosions specifically is because that specific death animation moves the player right before they’re deleted.
I absolutely love this game. I've been playing it even since it came out. It grew up with me. Seeing a recent battleblock theatre of any kind really surpised me. I didn't think anyone still had any interest in this really fun game. You guys were an exception. I saw this video recomended to me and did not look away as soon as it started playing. This video was not only beyond entertaining, it also showed me so many new glitches and tricks i never would've guessed were possible. This is an amazing video and im honestly extremely grateful it exists.
