This class show students how to install Windows Server 2012
Class Notes
Microsoft offers a fully functional 180 day trial.
Requirements:
CPU =1.4Ghz 64bit
RAM = 512MB
Disk Space = 32 GB
DVD Drive
Internet Connection
To Install Windows Server 2012
Boot off of DVD Drive
Select "Custom" option for installation NOT "Upgrade"
Delete all current partitions, and create new partition
Sip coffee and wait... DO NOT "Click Any Key" to boot off of CD when the system reboots.
Password will require at least one of each: Uppercase Letter, lowercase Letter, Number, Special Character

Attention!!
I went through many hours furiously trying to figure out why I couldn't get my server connected to my "lab" router. It turned out I had to set the network adapter in Virtualbox to *"bridged"* and *not NAT* (which is the default setting). Just thought someone else was struggling with the same issue. ;)
virtualization within virtualization...? I can't say it won't work, but I also think it's adding complexity that is sure to cause problems...

Found your video helpful. What steps would you need to do to install it right to a new pc? What trialware would you need to download this? Don't want to set up Virtual machine when I have 2 extra pc's sitting here.

Looking forward to following this series and I think I badly need it as I'm pretty clueless about MS servers. Currently I run all my services (mail, web, sql, plex, shares, ftp etc) off one Win 10 machine but now I'm planning on setting up a ESXi system with separate servers for different tasks, maybe use vlans where appropriate and some proper managing of it all. I have absolutely no clue what I will need, how to go about it all etc though so I will learn as I go. First step I think is getting the center of the hub going in the form of a Windows server (Maybe I should go 2016 instead?)

I'm curious as to why you used the Oracle Virtual Box in lieu of Hyper-V to install Windows Server 2012 into. I was planning on using Hyper-V myself, now I'm wondering if I should use the Oracle Virtual Box. Also, do you plan on doing any classes for Hyper-V and Client Hyper-V. How about more on creating virtual networks? It might be art, however technique is all about experience - and it's obvious you do have that! (I've watched about a dozen of your videos this weekend - great info, thx~)

great vid. what would be the best os for a small office environment...needs are simple: 10 - 12 workstation peer-peer network. most workstations still run either windows xp or vista and run their own prgms with the exception of a proprietary program that must run centrally. our current server is running NT4 which i like for its ease of use, but it's time to move into the current century...sad but true. thx!
Eli you mentioned that Server 2012 only needs 512 megs of ram, and can run on a 1.4 64 bit processor. This you did not mention is if the installer is going to install using server core. Server Giu requires more ram and bigger processor if the installer is going to deploy server 2012 in an environment with a lot of traffic push and pull from the end user work stations. The minimum reqs are for a stand alone build with NO push pull traffic to the server.

Hello, thanks for the video, you sound very helpful! the thing is I have an external hard drive and I was wondering if I went through the installation proces and at 13:31 click that external drive, does that leave my computer with windows 7 alone?
hi thank you so much for this tutorial , so basically im facing a problem , first im actually booting from a USB flash im following the exact sequence as your doing , until i reach the point where it says ( Installing windows ) ,, then it auto restarts , but strangely it keep bringing me back to the first screen where i have to chose my language and stuff every single time it restarts ,so im stuck in a loop now , ( AND IM NOT TOUCHING ANYTHING AT ALL ) , any help plez :(
+raynalem after your first reboot, during the bios setup screen, try switching the boot order on your server machine to boot from the HDD first instead of the flash drive. Hopefully that helps

Hey that may possible after installing WDS features then multiple pcs can install from a distance on a network by booting then from the network card NIC..PXE.

Best Practice when installing a server and the installation has completed kick the CD so you don't have to wait for the Boot to CD...
For you new guys I mean hit the eject the CD so the machine wont boot to it but keep the CD handy.
when installing, it requires a license, I skipped it but when starts the virtual says Windows cannot find the MS license terms

since a few days I try to install the Windows server R2 2012 without success, every time it comes out a message windows does not find the microsoft license agreement. Despite the fact that I downloaded it from the Microsoft site and I had other Iso still the same problem.

Eli,.my real question is the only thing you are not showing, what option did you choose for Network Card? I have been creating home networks with the NatNetwork option but later (I'm already a couple of videos ahead) after I setup the DHCP and DNS Servers they are just not working properly, even if I remove the checkbox from DHCP Supply, it seems that VBox still manages the router and the Win2012 Server can't connect to the virtual network at all after serting up the static IP address. So the clients get connection from the VBox Router and the Server gets no connection. I hope you are still around because these videos are far from obsolete, even if now is 2020. Thanks

I am trying to install windows Server 2012 in IBM Lenovo X3100 Server. I configured it as RAID 1 to work as mirror disk. But when I am trying to install Server 2012 by DVD, its not detecting the HDD. if I change it to AHCI mode it works. Kindly advise what to do in this case?

Eli ,, Really Its perfect ,, However I need small thing it will help us If you can create for us a work flow for installing the server start from inserting the CD until Activating the first user in domain control ( step by step ) like check list , because many time I installed the server then I re-install it again for missing step or miss-configuration ,, Great job Eli and thank you so much :-)
