I just wanted to pause studying for a minute to tell you "Thank you for providing this Server 2012 course"! I am taking the first exam, this Tuesday, for the 70-410 and your videos have been helping me grasp the details needed to operate Server 2012. I really appreciate your coherence, since my CBT nuggets class has been pounding a 100 details into a condensed 45 minute, per topic, videos. You've really helped me grasp the principles and feel capable of learning the finite details with each topic on my first exam. Thanks a million, Eli!
Don't worry about that the "experts" are going to say, you made it very clear that this is an "introduction" for us beginners, and it was a totally perfect and absolutely understandable introduction to DNS. This is the first time I try to learn the basics of DNS and I this is exactly what I was looking for, no need to look any further for what I was trying to accomplish a big THANK YOU!!!.
In Brazil now but has been with you since I started my IT career back in Los Angeles and I must say that I love the simplicity of your explanations. You became the "way to go" whenever I need someone else to understand something IT related. Thanks a whole.
As a new IT guy who recently crossed over from Telecom, I have been watching your videos to get familiar with the various technologies, lingo, etc. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge in a way I can easily comprehend and retain!
Eli,Thanks for the Intro classes. I'm getting started learning to configure servers and may be starting a new job that requires some basic knowledge with Server 2012. I bought my first book MCSA 70-410 by Don Poulton and is very deep. So I really appreciate the approach you have in taking nothing for granted to help start with a firm foundation in which to build upon. Thanks!
Eli, I have never ever seen in my life like you who teaches others in a very clear and understandable manner whatever he has. God bless you and your family abundantly.
Thank you Eli! I am grateful for your videos. Some of us techs work on the simpler side of things. Most of my small business clients don't use servers. As such, my knowledge on some topics is sometimes a bit limited, or forgotten. Simple videos like this are terrifically helpful.
Your voice soothes my soul like the sound of a gentle waterfall. Every time I start one of your videos and you introduce yourself, I know that everything is going to be alright.
You are a very skilled teacher, I learnt more through your videos than I did from any instructor I've every had. Thank you sooooo much for doing this. :)
This introduction makes my hype to learn more on your video. You make it clear and slow that any person who will watch the video will learn. Thank you for sharing such knowledge and help others to learn from you.
These videos are awesome. Very easy to follow and very informational. I'm going through the exams for my MCSE Desktop Infrastructure and this is helping a lot. Thanks!
Thanks Eli, your classes are great. Been literally just learning by trial n error in an enterprise environment. Having a lot "ahh that makes sense" moments.
Geepers. Wish I had found Elis series of lectures on Win 2012 , Domain Controllers, and DNS earlier. Good stuff, and yes that external DHCP server was a problem. Thanks.
Eli you the very man, screw those people that say's you are messing up; because of you I now have the understanding and how to do some stuff on Microsoft server 2012. Thank you for this video it helps.
OMG. I've been stumped for a good hour now trying to get a client to resolve a host name but couldn't. Restarted the DNS service (10:57) and BOOM! I'm resolving ipv4 addresses all night long. Thanks a lot.
I installed AD back in thius video: 0WyBxwJD_c0 You can have DNS without AD, but not the other way around. BUT Windows DNS can be a pain in the butt if you're using it to administer clients that are not members of the domain...
Awesome. Had a server with the wrong IP address in DNS so ping pointed me to the wrong place. This quickly showed me where to make that change. Thanks!
One should be required to convey a reason behind down-votes and have them shown in a separate tab. I would love to know why this guy has 17 down-votes when all his information is pertinent and accurate.
I've come to the conclusion inserts these downvotes by themselves. Because they're big CRAP videos like VEVO music videos get downvotes obviously. If millions of small channels would have virtually no downvotes it might look bad for the shareholders who make youtube money.
hello eli look I think your videos are very very important though I think for our convenience is to follow your videos step by step from low to high etc its for you to name them by numbers so we could follow them by order thanks so much and sorry if its hard for you
hi, thanks for the videos. But where is the next video on the DNS server configuration before "Adding windows computers to windows server 2012 domain". 2- When I tried to join a windows 7 comp to the domain, it says "an active directory domain controller for the domain could not be contacted". any idea???
HI Can you please tell me how to resolve "RFC 2136 specifies secure and unauthenticated Dynamic DNS Updates to the DNS tables on a DNS server. Typically, popular DNS servers like Bind or Microsoft DNS servers do not allow unauthenticated Dynamic DNS updates by default. However, as pointed out by CVE-1999-0184, Bind when compiled with the -DALLOW_UPDATES definition, does allow insecure updates. So does the Microsoft DNS Server if the ""Allow Dynamic Updates"" setting is set to ""Yes"" instead of ""Only Secure Updates"". Dynamic updates are used a lot these days, especially in the Microsoft Windows Active Directory environment, to locate services like Domain Controllers and Kerberos through the SRV RRs (Service Locator Resource Records). Thus, a misconfigured DNS server that allows insecure Dynamic DNS updates is quite likely. Through this test, the scanner could add ""qfake"" hostname with an IP address of ""1.1.1.1"" to the target DNS server's DNS tables. This entry has a TTL (time to live) of 1 day and is fairly harmless in itself."
Yes! Every other tutorial or document talks like I am already supposed to know how everything works. I just need a basic DNS and active directory for testing with a couple VMs and nobody will give a succient 1,2,3,4 etc step tutorial on how to do that.
i am facing voice breakage using softphone (vonage service configured)...i am using ciberoam firewall and also setup the windows server 2008r2.. i have already check the all dns setting in firewall and server as well ...can you help me to resolve this issue...
Mr. Eli. i have a question here... i want to ask, i have windows server installed and i want to configure it as the AD DS... but when i install and promote the AD to a domain i got this event id 4013 "The DNS server is waiting for Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) to signal that the initial synchronization of the directory has been completed. The DNS server service cannot start until the initial synchronization is complete because critical DNS data might not yet be replicated onto this domain controller. If events in the AD DS event log indicate that there is a problem with DNS name resolution, consider adding the IP address of another DNS server for this domain to the DNS server list in the Internet Protocol properties of this computer. This event will be logged every two minutes until AD DS has signaled that the initial synchronization has successfully completed." How do i fix that... This is my ip static on my network adapter ip add 10.10.10.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 primary dns 10.10.10.1 #is there a problem if i use its own ip to be the primary ip dns server? Sorry for my english,i'm new.
so if I wanted my whole network to use the server to get internet I would point all of the their DNS to the DC and set an A record to my ISP dns? and im told the server should point to itself. 2nd question would be what about a secondary DNS ip where does that go?
am having issue with virtual box on my laptop windows 10 home, its downloaded but I am having issues with getting a error message system accelerations it states this must be disabled for virtual box to work. I have done this but it still appears back
Can you please do a video on the common case where a company sets there AD domain name to their website domain name but there website is hosted on an external server on the web so DNS will need to be setup so users can access the company website from inside the company LAN.
Hi Sir i have a noob question here hope you can ans this Public static IP 118.x.x.x Modem Fiber ONT and i dun't get an gateway on my ONT modem Router Asus RT-N56U 192.x.x.1 Server Local IP 192.x.x.2 Port forwarding at 192.x.x.2 Port 1001 Firewall Inbound - 192.x.x.2 Port 1001 In my SQL Server what should put on my IP ? 118.x.x.x or 192.x.x.2 ? to make me connect from outside ?
It's just an example IP, which is why the pings time out. The destination IP of a DNS record doesn't actually have to exist when you create the record.
It would be ideal if you could. But if the printer doesn't happen to support a static IP configuration you could add a reservation for it in the DHCP server.
Hey, looks like you have the same setup I've where you set up your lab on VMware. Are you using VMware workstation? If so, can you please let me know if you followed along the DHCP video set up. Were your client able to resolve an IP from your DHCP server? mine never worked. I've spent too much time trying to figure it out.
What is the relationship between DNS server and DHCP server? is possible to install DNS and use without DHCP I got a little bit confusion about this stuff thank you?
Hmm, any idea why my ping always fails. I added new Host, gave it a name and set the IP. It seems to show in DNS manager same way as Elis. But when i try to ping, it cannot find host. If i ping IP directly, it works.
I really love this guy, almost all days i cant wait to go home and seat at my computer to watch his videos, i learned a lot with him already, i really apreciate his effort to teach us, i would pay for sure to be one of his students. Thanks Eli the Computer Guy
Hello sir, thank you very much for the video tutorial. Sir, i am confused on how to set up the forward zones and domain. If i click on the new zone i created,i see nothing.please can you show to set that up ?
Hi, Thank you for your video. I got a defferent query which is DHCP relaeted can you please advice following error: DHCP credentials for dns update should be configured if secure dynamic dns update is enabled and the domain controller is on the same host as the dhcp server: This error message display under BPA result - please advice
whats up eli? great job on this Win2012 Server track. i'm not much of a windows guy and it's been a while since i messed with windows domains, AD, and all that. these videos help me refresh my memory pretty good. anyway, so i want to set up my AD, but i know i need to set up DNS first. just wondering... will you be doing a video to actually set up and configure DNS in Win2012? or do you already have one and i missed it?
You are better than 99% of the teachers I ever had.
Its the name, Eli is just an easy going name.
@@cpmerchant You have just replied to my comment from 8 years ago. Hello from ghe future!

I've been working with DNS .. and pretty much everything else .. for decades. This is a very good introduction+. I enjoyed it. Nice job!
You are the only teacher i enjoy watching!
Don't worry about that the "experts" are going to say, you made it very clear that this is an "introduction" for us beginners, and it was a totally perfect and absolutely understandable introduction to DNS. Great video! In Windows Server 2019 you can view Global DNS logs via Event Viewer > Applications and Services Logs > DNS Server
Eli, I have never ever seen in my life like you who teaches others in a very clear and understandable manner whatever he has. God bless you and your family abundantly.
Eli, you made my IT Administration. Don't know how to thank you enough. Live long and stay healthy.

Man, there's nothing like an Eli class on a Saturday morning enjoying a cold brew.
This class is the best, so much better than the book. Thanks Eli for keeping the material simple for beginner like myself.

This introduction makes my hype to learn more on your video. You make it clear and slow that any person who will watch the video will learn. Thank you for sharing such knowledge and help others to learn from you.
These videos are better than taking a networking course! Thanks for doing these videos Eli, very helpful.
very professional teacher. clean language and presentation. i understand it clearly even when i play it at 2X speed
I agree with David. All the other teachers on UA-cam I can't even understand. You're great! Thanks Eli :)
These videos are awesome. Very easy to follow and very informational. I'm going through the exams for my MCSE Desktop Infrastructure and this is helping a lot. Thanks!

So glad I stumbled across your channel. Keep up the GREAT work, Eli.
New to MS server but thank you for explaining plain and simple. A great approach to learning new skills.
I enjoyed this class today June 3, 2013 - refreshing my outdated knowledge!
Who the hell is telling the Great ELI he is messing up. You are sure helping me thank you .

Eli the Computer Guy is in a car accident
Awesome. Had a server with the wrong IP address in DNS so ping pointed me to the wrong place. This quickly showed me where to make that change. Thanks!
Check out this video: dmQnJRXbzEk
Port Forwarding is done on the Router, not on the actual computer...
Another great video, great explanation without all the extra bits that are not necessary at this level.
the word thank you is not enough. may God just bless you abundantly
You are best teacher I ever had. I enjoy to watch your session.

Really good introduction video tutorial for entry level learner, awesome!
hello eli look I think your videos are very very important though I think for our convenience is to follow your videos step by step from low to high etc its for you to name them by numbers so we could follow them by order thanks so much and sorry if its hard for you
Hi,
If you follow the playlist "Windows server 2012" it will be in perfect order.
Hi Ali the computer guy. This chandra the Indian guy. Love your all the classes🤗🤗
I had to manually add a reverse lookup PTR to let client computers detect and join the domain. Is this normal?
very good, waiting for my unleashed book to arraive from amazone. Will be here on saturday.. Looking forward to new classes.
40 thumbs down? What is wrong with You people? This is the best tutorial ever.

it was really easy to understand and i am able to use it at work too.
thank you.
keep it coming.
You are amazing, thank you from the bottom of my heart
Great! You explain very clearly and allowed me learning what I could not before.

Clearly presented and instructive video on Windows servers 👍👏
Well done Eli...you are doing a great job!
Eli you are a great teacher. thank you for taking your time to teach us. i love all of your lessons.
I don't know what I feel. It's annoying when you pronounce words really clear, but it really helps a lot! :S Thanks for the classes :)
Thanks Shaun Fielding for your response.I had not enabled IP V6.
If any ideas please post .........
.Thanks in advance..
does a read-only domain controller (RODC) appear as "Name Server" or "Host(A)" in DNS?

Thanks a lot for the video... It's great!
Greetings from Mexico
do you have another video as well advanced one for the same topic please?
Always great videos Eli!
Eli, I why is my DNS not activated...same thing goes for my DHCP and AD DS?
Really good videos i am learning it from his videos. Thank you
Hey Eli can you complete this explaining how to setup AD FS?
Can you please do a video on the common case where a company sets there AD domain name to their website domain name but there website is hosted on an external server on the web so DNS will need to be setup so users can access the company website from inside the company LAN.
If don't have your videos, I cannot learn computer class, thanks many
Hi Sir i have a noob question here hope you can ans this
Public static IP 118.x.x.x
Modem Fiber ONT and i dun't get an gateway on my ONT modem
Router Asus RT-N56U 192.x.x.1
Server Local IP 192.x.x.2

Firewall Inbound - 192.x.x.2 Port 1001
In my SQL Server what should put on my IP ? 118.x.x.x or 192.x.x.2 ? to make me connect from outside ?
Thank you very much,I really enjoyed as well as learned more...
How does the ending work where he assigns the printer an IP address? Thought only DHCP can provide a device with an IP?
It's just an example IP, which is why the pings time out. The destination IP of a DNS record doesn't actually have to exist when you create the record.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Eli.
Should that printer also have a static IP Address setup in its console to match with the DNS record just created on DNS Server?
It would be ideal if you could. But if the printer doesn't happen to support a static IP configuration you could add a reservation for it in the DHCP server.
Hi Eli, thank you very much for you classes 😊
Hey, looks like you have the same setup I've where you set up your lab on VMware. Are you using VMware workstation? If so, can you please let me know if you followed along the DHCP video set up. Were your client able to resolve an IP from your DHCP server? mine never worked. I've spent too much time trying to figure it out.
Thank you. I learned everything I need, most important how to add the DNS entry. Your videos are on point...
Thanks Eli for these videos, you actually help me a lot understanding tons of stuff that I'm interesting in.
Once again Thanks for wonderful Videos
What is the relationship between DNS server and DHCP server? is possible to install DNS and use without DHCP I got a little bit confusion about this stuff thank you?

Thy for this simple explanation! Greetings from Germany!
