So without giving spoilers, Five physically "jumped" to the future and when he jumped BACK, he didn't do it correctly and so his body reverted back to his child body

I don’t like how they forced representation by making Vanya Viktor just bc the Actor came out as transgender. I also think that it’s sweet that they changed the credits for him too though :)
@@ventustbb3229 well, they wanted to keep Elliot in the role, a) because he's brilliant, and b) could you imagine the uproar of an actor coming out as trans and being instantly dropped from his biggest show of the moment?! And keeping him playing a woman would have been uncomfortable. But having him transition just goes to show that anyone can transition - the door isn't closed to them because of who they are or the stage in their life that they're at. I know Vanya didn't transition in the comics, but that's a different, past Vanya.
I think the show handled the whole thing in the best way possible.
@@mintygrey Not saying they should’ve gotten rid of him. Actors play female characters sometimes too. We had Robin Williams putting in the work as Mrs. Doubtfire. Then there’s Tyler Perry who plays Madea. Both actors had to wear body suits & wigs to do that. It’s a job & it’s called acting. Idk what the issue was with him playing a female character. Vanya didn’t even “dress & act” really girly. Like I could understand if his character wore dresses & acted like a diva/valley girl. That would be uncomfortable, but that wasn’t a thing. Also I read somewhere that Elliot would’ve been fine playing his character the way it was b4. Not sure if that’s true, but if it is then it’s definitely forced representation & no one can really deny it. If the actor actually said that. I could totally get over the character change too. If the season wasn’t so bad. Like they took a huge 💩 on Allison’s character for no reason. Idk if the writers were high or what, but that wasn’t it.
Idk about that, but they tried their best I guess. Btw a better way to have made the character change would’ve been making the alternate timeline Vanya Viktor instead. Would’ve made more sense imo. I totally would’ve been on board for that.
@@ventustbb3229 You sound so dumb like they arent forcing anything since Elliot said he was with playing Vanya but it didnt feel right to the writors. You need to get it through your thick skull that the tv industry is changing especially when it comes to casting since the stuff that happen when Robin Williams was acting wouldnt fly in this day and age so get with the program.
You'll not be disappointed by this show.
Maybe a bit in season 3 but overall this show is a beaut

@@SansTheSkeleton_ season 3, while I did really enjoy it, felt all over the place. It felt like they were trying to connect and fit 3 massive plot points into a short timespan. Also Allison’s character got fucked so hard. I wanted to punch her through the screen for all the stupid shit she was doing that season.
The show isn't perfect across all 3 seasons, but it's charming as hell. You can't help, but be drawn to each individual personality
27:01 It's been more than 17 years for Five. He disappeared when he was 13 and spent the next 45 years in the apocalypse. He gets back in this episode, but not to the exact date of his disappearance but 17 years after it. That's why he's been missing for 17 years from his siblings' perspective, but for him it's been 45 years. He reverted back to his 13-year-old body due to a miscalculation, but his consciousness remains 58. These are not spoilers, all of this is from the first episode, but it can be confusing on the first watch.
The ironic thing about Vanya being played by Elliot Paige is that Vanya is a male name in Russia. The chimp was introduced as Pogo here but its kind of hard to remember all those names all at once.
Many of these actors were known before this show so your experience of knowing who they are from other places is basically the same as early watcher. Luther was in Game of Thrones, Klaus was in a pretty famous British superhero show, Five was in some Nickelodeon show, and Vanya...well, I really don't need to list their film history

I watched the trailer for this so many times and could not get myself to watch it.. thinking it looks sooooo stupid, then I actually watched it and thought, well it is stupid but a great kind of stupid, love all 3 seasons.

This is the first Netflix program to make me watch a full season in 1 sitting . The 3 seasons form a great overriding narrative that still leaves you wanting MORE .

As a heads up the title screen at the beginning always has an umbrella pop up in wonderful random ways. Also 5 and Klaus are the best hands down imo. So happy u started this show!
23:45 "If it's something he can't turn on and off that has to be a nightmare." I've seen the whole series (first two seasons 2-3 times), but I've never thought of it this way. Well put. In this way his power certainly has a disadvantage because the only way he's found to turn it 'off' is to load up on alcohol and drugs.

Also I guess for me I always interpreted it as 5’s body went with him into the future. There is no body to go back into in this time. So he has to project himself into a body that does exist across all timelines which apparently is the young one? He aludes to having messed up the calculation but 🤷🏼♀️

Sooo excited for this! Don't worry too much about how you refer to Vanya, with the understanding that Elliot is a male. To pretend that Vanya is already a male in some way would be ignoring thier great character arc.
He literally says that Viktor is who he’s always been, pretending he’s not Viktor because he hadn’t come out at this point is silly, you wouldn’t call Elliot by his dead-name when talking about his past…so why call Viktor by _his_ dead name.

Happy to see you reacting to this, initially felt like the umbrella academy was a rip off of the X-Men but the characters although flawed are very likable and it has quickly turned into a series I very much enjoy from Netflix.
Definitely in my top 5 netflix shows! 9/10 for me
What a treat! I love this show, as someone who loves superhero stuff and can sometimes struggle with formulaic stories, this is a breath of fresh air. Truly a delight! Enjoy yourself!
In the comic books five doesn’t have a name because he disappeared prior to the mother giving them names. This isn’t the case in the show as we see in the flashback the mothers call Alison by her name whilst five is there. This Leaves five’s lack of a name a mystery
I’ve looked this up before, and if I remember correctly, the explanation is that Five was in the process of choosing a name before he disappeared but then obviously didn’t get around to doing it
Yeah there is no set answer, even with the people involved in the show apparently. The show runner says Five was indecisive so he couldn’t settle on a name before he disappeared, Gerard Way said Five was fine with just being called a number so he didn’t bother with changing his name, and Aidan Gallagher believes he rejected a name out of spite

Had to subscribe since you're starting Umbrella Academy! Can't wait, these are a great 3 seasons ahead of you! This show has a really intriguing and camp flair to it, that makes it so entertaining. One of the standouts is definitely the cast of characters, because they're for sure very distinct personalities. To clarify, they did state that Five is in fact in his 13 year old body here (his actor Aidan Gallagher was actually 14 at the time of filming, so it was perfect casting).

I love this show and so excited for season 2 reactions. Season 2 of this show is one of my favorites in all superhero/comic book media.
Oh yeah they never state it in the show but cellphones don’t exist, the internet seems very limited, and certain other pieces of tech are older than they should be in the present day. It’s a stylistic choice

@@payton8172 cell phones specifically (not phones in general, cell phones) and other certain pieces of tech not every piece of tech. They still have landlines but we never see a cell phone and they have older cameras and tvs

I'm pretty sure Five just regressed his body's age when he jumped back to 2019, maybe he tried to regress it to 30, which is the age he would have been if he didn't time travel at all, but accidentally regressed it to 13 instead, which is the age he was when he first jumped.

For me, I recognized Robert Sheehan from Misfits, in which he plays a very similar character (but still different). He's my fave character in both shows. And also I recognized Elliot Page. I think pretty much everyone knows them. If you like this show, you might like Misfits as well. It's a British show and Robert Sheehan speaks in his natural Irish accent. Iwan Rheon (Ramsay in GoT) is also in it. He plays a VERY different type of character. Probably my second favorite in the show.

I’ve only watched this series this year for the first time and from the pilot it had me hooked and I just the love the characters specially five and klaus !!

Klaus is always into something as you said but he still can see Ben no matter how high he is, it's not said in the show but he was with Klaus all the time, also it could get confiusing sometimes cuz as they give u answers they give u more questions to hook u up, this show is a whole ride and now with the 3rd season I just can't wait for season 4 to arrive, I hope u enojoy it, I'm pretty sure u will.

This maybe considered a minor spoiler for season 3, but it is about Elliot Page and how they are discussed on the show so if you want any info about that keep reading.
They handle Elliot's transition super well in season three, and Elliot's character is now called Viktor. I don't think anyone will mind you saying Vanya for these first couple seasons, and honestly up until a few months before season 3 came out we didn't know if Vanya would transition as well because Elliot Page made a statement that he would be fine still playing the same character, but the crew of the show wanted to be as respectful as possible to him so they had Viktor transition as well and it is super well done and it all feels very in character for him.
Funny enough, Vanya (Ivan) is a male name
