    Amazingly detailed review I considered this bag but I ended up getting the Alpaka atom x sling and although I may stuff it to its max I really like its slim form factor. When I first got it I wondered why the buckle was so close to the bag but now after using it compared to my last one the buckle never ever being in the way is VERY nice. compared to the AER one scraping you its heaven lol. I have also been looking at the x-pod sling as I think it may be the perfect ipad mini carrier.

      @CarryQuandaries  2 роки тому

      I haven’t tried the Atom X but owners seem to really like it. The X-Pod should fit the iPad Mini, but keep in mind that it wouldn’t be very padded so I would personally be a little hesitant for that application. I have a Go Sling Mini that has a padded compartment, but I don’t own a an iPad mini so don’t know for sure if it’ll fit but my guess is that it would. Another good option for iPad Mini would be the DSPTCH Sling Pouch Medium, which has a nice slim profile, but that one also isn’t padded. Good luck with your search! Hope you settle on something you love. Happy new year!

      I don’t have the slings anymore so can’t really test. The X Pod is designed to work as a fanny, but you’ll have lots of extra hanging strap. The Aer is not really designed for fanny usage.

    I was able to make a modification to allow the City Sling 2 (X-Pac) to be worn as a waist pack, which I find eliminates a lot of the discomfort, accessibility, and compression strap issues. I took a razor knife and very carefully undid all the stitching at the end of one of the webbing straps where it attaches to one of the triglide slides (the new strap management system). You really can’t even tell that it was once stitched aside from a slight crease. I was able to re insert the unstitched strap through the slide and into the new pocket on the back of the sling where you would stuff the straps while using it as a “tech pouch.” It now looks and fits perfectly on my waist. It’s funny because I thought the area to stuff the straps into was sort of dumb anyway, but now I have a real use for it.

    OMG! You are the first reviewer to identify that the city 2 looks MORE bulky and pill like. The only reason I started looking at Aer sling bags was because I saw a photo of a person wearing the 1st version and it was so streamlined, hugging the natural lines of the body. The new version looks like you're wearing a rectangular box on your back or front. I've been watching reviews trying to figure out why I didn't "love" the city 2 (especially when everyone else has been OOing and AHing at the new features) and I'm finally glad to find its not just me who has a problem with its new shape. Subscribed!

    • @CarryQuandaries
      @CarryQuandaries  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks man, yeah, it’s weird that others don’t point it out. I think it _might_ have something to do with the fact that many reviewers receive the bags for free (or wish to get them in the future) which skews their “reviews” towards being more favorable. (Even if they don’t try to, it will happen because the incentives aren’t aligned). That being said, we might just be in the minority of people who care about this…hard to say for sure.
      Thanks for the sub!

      The X-Pod is 7 L in its expanded mode, but actually feels slimmer (and has much less capacity) when folded in it’s non-expanded mode. Nevertheless, you’re right, they are different size bags. In this channel i’m not trying to be fair, but rather just sharing my personal carry quandaries. I own the X-Pod. I was curious if the City sling could replace it. Nice review, although I would like to point out that the xpod is a bigger bag overall. Your point about the city sling looking bulkier when stuffed with large items does seem directly related to the fact the Aer is slightly smaller. I ordered the xpac city sling v2 a few days ago, still waiting on it, but judging by what is said here I hope I don't end up regretting it. I have a v1 city sling in cordura nylon and I love it, except the big belt and buckle, which is the reason I decided to "upgrade" and also go for the more weather resistant xpac.

    • @CarryQuandaries
      @CarryQuandaries  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks for your comment!
      Yes, the X-Pod is a larger bag overall. Yet with the flap in folded mode, the space resembles that of the City Sling 2, and I tend to keep it in folded mode most of the time. Also, I found the X-Pod to look “flatter” when empty vs the City Sling 2 which has more structure so looks a bit bulky even when empty. Of course these are minor nit picks and in the end they are both great bags (minus the zipper on the City Sling 2, I hope yours doesn’t have that problem). I will say that if you’re looking for a less bulky strap, it is definitely better in this v2, so you might be very happy with it! I’d love for you to keep me posted with what you end up thinking about it!

      @TheMokomi300 - what’s your feedback on the sling?

    • @TheMokomi300
      @TheMokomi300 2 роки тому +4

      @@veritas.ve.42 Having it for about 2 weeks I would say I really like it for my needs. I do agree with it being slightly "boxier" and more rigid but I believe that's a byproduct of the XPac being a very rigid and sturdy material (my V1 is Cordura Nylon). I like the strap system much better than the V1, however I do agree with the video about the buckle edges being slightly sharp, however I got around this by adjusting the buckle toward my back whilst I keep the sling on my side or chest. The compression straps, I believe, are actually effective and having compared it to the V1 the difference is that the XPac doesn't compress as well as Cordura nylon unless you are wearing it. Still those things are minor gripes and I am pretty pleased with it, though some people may agree or disagree depending on their loadouts and tastes. These slings are meant for light packing, large items like bottles will definitely take away from the ability to compress and conform to the body effectively. The weather resistance on Xpac is great, already got caught in rain and the whole interior was dry.

    • @CarryQuandaries
      @CarryQuandaries  2 роки тому +1

      Haha, thanks man! I actually considered designing a sling in the past, might actually do it someday!
      The Heimplanet is a nice sling! But make sure you test it doing real walks while wearing a smooth t shirt-For me it slid around my back too much for my liking. Also I didn’t love that the zippers aren’t aquaguard, but that was less of an issue than the sliding for me. What I did like about that sling is that it had a style that blended in well with pretty much everything, and when it’s empty it is pretty slim and light, making it a good sling for travel to pack into a bigger bag and take out at your destination. Also, nice organization.
      I’d love to hear an update of what you think when you get it!

    IMO the Day sling 2 with X-Pack is a much better option for EDC.
    Zips are tight but aren't stuck.
    Doesn't have a stupid tightening - "compression" feature.
    Feels nice around the body, not boxy.

    • @CarryQuandaries
      @CarryQuandaries  2 роки тому +2

      Agreed. That’s a very nice sling. But the way the straps are positioned, I find that it doesn’t do well when you need to move fast (running to catch a bus), and also the capacity is set up in such a way that it prefers flatter items. Other than those two minor points, I think it is a better choice.

    So I ordered the Go Sling Mini VX42 limited edition from Alpaka 8 days ago and it hasn't even shipped yet. So I went to AER and discovered/ordered the City Sling 2 in VX42 for $109. It was delivered 2 days later and I am thoroughly impressed! It has more pockets and organizational features than the Go Sling Mini. Whenever the Go Sling DOES arrive, I doubt I'll be keeping it. The only allure that bag has at this point is the fact that it is 4 liters while the City Sling is only 2.5 liters. I've had none of the problems you covered in this video. I've used it everyday thus far, whilst riding my bike, and it is almost perfect. Yes, it does brick out but it isn't a problem for me because it still lies properly on my back. If I could change one thing on the City Sling 2, I would add an additional 0.5 - 1 liter capacity.
    The Go Sling Mini as I said is 4 liter, but it lacks the organization the City Sling has.
    Also, I know this is from 10 months ago, but if you happen to still use your City Sling, the space on the back for strap stowaway doubles quite nicely as an additional pocket. I keep my 20,000mAh powerbank back there. As long as what you put in there is sized appropriately, it won't fall out.

I like the overall look and organization, and I expect the zippers will break in some, so I'm going to stick with it for a while for daily carry. I also got a Heimplanet Transit XL for travel. • @jhillyerd
      @jhillyerd 2 роки тому +2

      @@veritas.ve.42 I'm going to keep the bag, and use it for EDC. In terms of the material, I like the X-Pac a lot, and love the orange liner. The tighter weave (vs regular 1680D) looks great, and this particular type of x-pac is not as crinkly/noisy as another product I have. I think Mr. Carry Quandaries complaints are valid, the compression system is mostly cosmetic, the zippers aren't great for one handed use, and the fidlock did actually leave a visible scratch on my neck! What I've found is that with my EDC, the bag is about half full, I don't like wearing it tight, and it's hard enough to rummage around in as it is, so I don't think I'd benefit from more compression. I may try some sort of lube on the zippers, but I want them to wear in more first, too early to tell if they can be fixed. I've found that not unzipping them all the way makes it easier to zip back up one handed, and that grabbing Aers pulls instead of the zipper tab itself works better. I used a file on the sharp parts of the fidlock, it's fine now.

      @CarryQuandaries  2 роки тому

      Since I don’t have either slings anymore I’ll give some pointers here:
      - The COB will carry significantly more
      - Heimplanet looks smaller on the body
      - Heimplanet is cleaner, with fewer straps all over, but personally I prefer the “techwear” vibes of the X-pod more.
      - the back material of the Heimplanet as well as the straps are somewhat slick and slippery, so for me the Heimplanet (both regular and XL versions) would slide around my back a little when wearing with a smooth T Shirt.
      - The regular transit can double as a pouch for travel because it’s easy to grab with one hand.
      Overall X-Pod suited my needs better, but Heimplanet is a nice little sling.

    Ngl this review felt a little biased. Comparing a $189 xpod to a $89 city sling (cordura version). Ofcourse the xpod is gonna be better overall.
    I do agree with what you said about the useless compression straps, they don’t compress at all compared to the 1st version.
    It all boils down to what you put inside. I don’t normally put a whole ass water bottle on my sling and it is obvious that the city sling’s size is not intended for it. (Maybe an A7 memobottle could be a better choice)
    I sound defensive sorry because this is my very first Aer purchase and I thought it was the best considering the price and I also don’t carry a lot so…
    This review is actually really good and such as eye opener compared to all other reviews that are just mostly focuses on the good side of the sling.

    • @CarryQuandaries
      @CarryQuandaries  2 роки тому +3

      Thank you Sherwin for your input!
      I agree I might be a little biased, being that I modified my X-Pod to really suit me so I do have more of an emotional attachment to it. However, the X-Pod retails for $149 and the City Sling 2 in X-Pac which I reviewed retails for $109, so we’re talking about a $40 difference.
      Regarding what you put inside, I was under the impression that one of the reasons Aer increased the size of the v2 was to fit a small water bottle-otherwise, why increase the size? If no water bottle, the v1 size was absolutely perfect (at least for me)-this is why I presented this comparison and was a little disappointed that it still isn’t ideal for that carry scenario.
      In the end though, this video wasn’t really intended to be a well rounded unbiased review (hence why I called it “thoughts” rather than “review”), rather, it’s more of a personal perspective in my quest to find the ideal sling for me. But if the Aer works for your needs, by all means, keep it and cherish it! The materials are clearly great and i’m sure you’ll get a lot of great use out of it. It’s all about what works for you!

The aesthetic of the bag is the only thing that has kept me with it. But I began to dislike it because of its boxy structure, which feels like a brick on the body when packed.I just recently sold it and have purchased the Aer Day sling 3 in xpac 😁👌🏼

    At 10:20, about the compression, this is the reason why i was thinking about buying the Aer Sling, but since it doesnt compress like the original, i think ill pass.
    I have the tomtoc Xpac (it looks nice) but it has no compression straps, thats why im searching for something else; it also has other nuances that i dont like.

      At the time I had been waiting for the v1 X Pac to come back in stock tor many months. But then I got an email from Aer saying it will be replaced with v2. So I got it reluctantly and was disappointed with it.

  • @sudosudokoek
    @sudosudokoek 2 роки тому +1

    Most of your issues are nitpicks of you it seems. Have you been trying the sling for a longer period now to try out and if so, how do you feel trying it more compared to what you have reviewed? I feel you haven't used the bag enough to really judge it. Looked like those issues in the video weren't as big after you actually tried in the video.
    I do think the V1 is better then V2. I'm not fond of V2 being bigger. I own the Day Sling 2 X-Pac and the City Sling (Cordura). I bought the Aer CS for it being smaller and the compression straps to make it slimmer (which does a fine job on the V1). If only they improved some aspects on V1 and made the X-Pac more available.
    I'm a fan of X-Pac with the orange lining, but I won't upgrade to V2 hope they design a new smaller/slimmer sling rather than big

    • @CarryQuandaries
      @CarryQuandaries  2 роки тому +1

      Funny because you started out saying i’m nitpicking but then you went on to basically share my sentiments about the V2…😀
      And nah, I sent it back. I definitely wouldn’t call this a review. It was more like “my initial feelings about the bag”. For context, I waited for months for the x-pac v1 to come back in stock after having tried the standard v1 which I really liked except for the non-magnetic buckle, the lack of X Pac, and the lack of high viz lining. And so I was kinda bummed when they emailed me and said “v1 ain’t coming back, but here, try this larger one”. So yea, I was already a bit skeptical about it when placing the order, and that led me to probably be more judgy than normal. It’s like imagine you’re in love with a really beautiful girl who you’ve been having a long-distance relationship with for two years. When finally it’s time for her to come back and for you two to be together, at the last moment her slightly uglier, slightly dumber sister who you don’t love shows up instead. Would you be judgmental and nit picky about her? You bet your ass you would. Give me my damn v1 back!

    • @sudosudokoek
      @sudosudokoek 2 роки тому

      @@CarryQuandaries yes we agree on the size, but only that. And it's the only reason why I wouldn't upgrade, because I have already have a similar size which is the Day Sling 2 X-Pac. I don't see anything else that we share. I saw some upgrades on the V2, which doesn't mean much to you and that's fine. To me the issues you have seems to be minor, is why I call it nitpicks of you. Because it is your personal experience of the bag.
      For example I don't agree about the zippers. Especially the zipper on the back of the bag where your body cover it, which you made a big issue about how companies using different zippers for bags and not make everything water resistant, but the bag you compared it with didn't have the water resistant zipper either. Makes me wonder about that..
      Testing the zipper for the main compartment which you seem to struggle with, I feel like you haven't used the bag too long. From the video it looked like you only just got the bag and were unsatisfied immediately. I was hoping to get your thoughts after using the bag for a week or 2, but I understand that you returned the bag. Not happy, return it.

      @CarryQuandaries  2 роки тому

      I thought about it, but when I tried pinching the strap further to simulate a modification, I realized that part of the limitation is the way the bag is shaped-it’s just more resistant to compression as it had a lot of structure at the ends unlike the V1 which had a more tapered shape on the sides.

    • @DaveStern2
      @DaveStern2 2 роки тому +1

      @@CarryQuandaries yes and the compression straps on the AER are mostly a style thing as far as I can tell. Even on the (better?) V1, they only compress a little and unless you have tension on the main strap (around your waist or very tight on your body), they will only end up pulling the main strap closer to the sling part, they won't pull the sling to the strap. But I think they do help make the sling look great.

      @@jasperdel24 nice! I had the Heimplanet (both regular & XL versions) and while I enjoyed the look and organization of them (preferred the regular size as i found the metal buckle unnecessary) the smooth straps and the smooth back panel meant that when wearing a smooth T shirt, both slings had a tendency to slide from my back to my right side and they would end up on my side under my arm pit. Was annoying enough that I ruled them out. (Plus, both were just a bit small for my carry needs, but I can see them working really well for some).

I think it's better than v2 strictly due to its proportions (strap, sling) and total size, even without the 'upgrades'; it's not meant for a water bottle, just pocket stuff for sure. You're comparing Apples to Oranges. The X-POD is a much larger sling. Everything you complained about you ended up realizing it wasn't as "bad" like being able to close the City Sling with your Kindle and water bottle in. You complained about the buckle scratching your soft delicate neck then realized as you were swinging midway it didn't really do that. Were you paid to hate on this? LOL

    • @CarryQuandaries
      @CarryQuandaries  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Irene for your feedback. The kindle does fit in the City Sling, but only in the main compartment (and not in one of the mesh pockets), so it would just be floating around in there with other items which isn’t as good as having it in the slimmer back pocket of the X-Pod. But in a pinch, the City sling *technically* will carry it, but the user experience of doing so is still compromised. As for the buckle, it pokes me about 50% of the time-enough for me to get irritated by it, but YMMV.
      Thanks for watching. And no, I bought both of these bags with my own money. While my aim isn’t to do sponsored “balanced” reviews, if you stick around I plan on making videos in the future which present both the good and the bad…although I can’t guarantee that there will be no more rants haha.

    Others are not giving you constructive feedback, so I will. Your review has 36 dislikes to 59 likes. The question is why? I think it’s because you’ve had the product for no more than 45 minutes. That equates to no experience with the product. I would be interested in knowing your opinion about the product after 3 to 4 weeks of use. Check this review out:
    ua-cam.com/video/etqzkP4iRzk/v-deo.html

    • @CarryQuandaries

      Thanks for your constructive feedback. I think it’s that combined with people so used to everything being a “review”. Did I mention anywhere that this was a review? No. I wrote in the title INITIAL THOUGHTS.
      Also, i’m sure some of the dislikes have something to do with my overall negative sentiment about a bag so many people have ordered and really want to love. But that’s totally fine with me. I don’t really care about the like/dislike ratio. I just like bags and like sharing my opinions & experience with them.
      irl I don’t give a bag I dislike another 4 weeks of use. I’m typically able to make up my mind within an hour, and that is what you’re witnessing in this video. It’s real life. I bought it, shared my first impressions, didn’t like it enough to keep, and indeed I returned it. This channel is not my work, i’m not a reviewer, it’s just for fun. I’m not gonna continue using a bag I dislike.
      P.S. Mountain’s channel is awesome, I love his reviews, but he’s doing something very different than what i’m aiming for. I’m aiming for a vlog-like, unscripted, share-my-random-thoughts-freely kind of channel. I think maybe my fancy thumbnail and the time markers have given the wrong impression. So thanks for the feedback. I’m learning as I go, but not necessarily the things you think I should learn ;).

    IF you’re going to do reviews, you should try to even things out and talk about overall features not just the things you hate. It gets tiring to watch someone that is non-stop frustrated throughout the whole video. Also, if you have an issue with the top zipper, maybe you should have gotten the regular version of the city sling, not the xpac - the zipper is regular.

    • @CarryQuandaries
      @CarryQuandaries  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the feedback. This isn’t a review, just my initial thoughts. When evaluating whether to keep a product, the negative aspects of the experience tend to stand out more in my mind than the positives. When everything works as it should, there is nothing much to say, so I don’t say it. (“This bag has working zippers!”).
      And thanks for the suggestion, but I prefer X-Pac and don’t feel like I should have to get a different material just to get a pack with working zippers.
      That said, your sentiment is shared by many of the commenters and I did take note of it. If you look at my latest video, you’ll see I incorporated both positives and negatives into it.
      Thanks for watching!
