    Thanks for the video - I was considering this bag. The issue with the bag slipping is an EASY DIY fix. I use the same trick and many other lightweight backpackers with lots of our slippery nylon gear. All you do is take a tube of clear silicone, press the mouth of the tube against the fabric (in this case, the inside of the strap and possibly the bottom half of the bag, on the side facing inward), squeeze and then lift away from the fabric. The idea is to leave a small, thin dot. Create a pattern of these dots along every part of the surface that will come in contact with your clothing. Don’t make the dots large - you want them to provide the grip to prevent sliding, but you do NOT want to make them so prominent that your buckle won’t slide when/where you need it to. Let the silicone dry for 36-48hrs and your slipping problem will be 100% solved.
    Hope this helps someone! The maker ought to do this but it’s such an easy fix that I wouldn’t let it keep me from purchasing it.

    how is it slipping on you? i have the slippery xpac and it stays
    i also have a different sling bag made with ballistic nylon and they also don't slip
    i guess you could get a bag with a breathable back fabric maybe that will work?
    while comfortable that is my CON for this bag the back is not made of mesh/breathable fabric and the straps are HARD. my other cheaper bags use some sort of soft smooth seatbelt like material. with the same magnet buckle you don't hate.
    but they are made of some nylon material with a thick face its almost rubbery. feels good but it's not xpac. it doesn't have hi visibility orange interior.

    Wish I had seen this before buying. Having a lot of trouble with the sliding around on my body. Did you ever find a way to address this or have any ideas on how to modify the bag to make it better?
    The biggest problem is that as the strap slides up along my shoulder to my neck.. and then it rotates around my body, it starts to grate my neck :( my first day wearing it it looked like I had been choked out lol.

    I agree with others: teleprompter worked great. If it makes your life easier, keep using it! Regarding sling bag size: a larger one is useful for travel when relying on a single travel backpack. You can wear a 6 or even 9L sling on the front to keep items in reach and safe while wearing a larger travel bag on your back. For daily use, I agree that a smaller sling is ideal. I’ve relied on the Day Sling 2 for that and haven’t been bothered by it slipping, as you have. I carry a GR3 and GR3x plus essential items with ease.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  2 роки тому +1

      That's a good usecase. But with a backpack the strap of the sling would be kept in place perfectly. So I will definitely keep this trick in mind for my next travel. Thanks

    I've been eyeing this bag since its release and I think you're the first to mention how slippery the bag is. Half a dealbreaker to me, and unfortunate about that kind of fidlock / magnetic buckle as well, since I'm planning to start riding motorcycle for work.
    So what would you recommend as alternative to the Day Sling 3? I think the Heimplanet Pocket Sling XL could be worthy. That's another one that I've been looking at reviews. Would you recommend the Heimplanet over the Aer?

    • @Youknowthebo

    Appreciate very much your honest review. I also agree the fidlock has design issues. (I dont own one but can imagine this major flaw of an otherwise brilliant design.) I have a suggestion. Instead of taping up yr fidlock buckle, how about this …
    look for a suitable sized bicycle rubber inner tubing , cut a length say 2.5inches, push the open buckle thru the tubing, lock the buckle, then pull the inner tubing over the fidlock closed buckle. It shld be very secure, becos of the rubber friction over metal. Its a quick solution like rubber band, only neater. Furthermore , its black tubing - perfect color match.
    Another solution is use a velcro or button type bag handle keeper , those short leather straps that keep bag handles together. Find a way to attach those over the buckle.

    • @anon003

  • @stanleyomar
    @stanleyomar Рік тому +6

    I totally agree about the Fidlock and other magnetic or quick-release buckles/straps. I notice this trend when researching my current sling and wondered immediately why anyone would want that. A bag should NEVER accidentally fall off your body, especially one which might hold things that don't take falls very well (like cameras), and since it's already so easy to put a sling on over your head, it just seems like the risk far outweighs any benefit.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the comment. Totally agree. Pulling a sling over the head is just the one thing that doesn't always work for me though. On a motorcycle I can't always pull it over my head. Either because I am wearing a helmet or because the armor inside my jacket makes arm movement difficult. That is why I like a regular buckle on the strap.

      Thanks, Jose. Aer make cery good bags. And attaching the bag to a chair is a good solution. I do that as well.

    I assumed companies avoided stickier fabrics on slings so people wouldn’t complain that their slings wrecked their clothing. Merino wool would be susceptible to abrasion, for instance.

    Aer is just jumping on the trend. Everyone loves magnetics, especially when they are incorporated into a bag, unfortunately the type of magnetic they choose doesn't seem like a good fit. This is the same for the Travel Pack line where the magnetic compression strap has become detached. Even if the bag costs a bit more, I would of preferred a much more secure buckle.
    I do agree with bag sliding around to the side. I ride a sports bike and its even worst for me with the more aggressive position lol.

    Thanks for pointing out that sliding issue. It'll be terrible for me when I'm riding a bicycle.
    Need more reviews pointing out huge flaws in bags. I love my Alpaka Elements backpack but it weighs about a kilo when completely unloaded. Makes for a horrible choice when I'm carrying 4kg+.

    Bo, thanks so much for this review. I recently bought the City Sling 2 and definitely agree on the sliding around part, but man I still love it so much (it's my first sling to boot). Would love to see a video with mods you can make to stop it from sliding e.g. by putting a coating on it or other solutions, if you happen to know any.
    Also, do you know if any resellers in EU are selling Aer? I ended up buying mine from a UK online reseller, but would definitely love to see a reseller in Germany or Scandinavia.
    Thanks again, and didn't mind the teleprompter at all. Agree with the other commenter that because you have so much b roll it's not really noticeable.

      The City sling is great. In my experience it's not as bad in terms of sliding around compared to the day sling.
      You can check out keus and mukama. They are both in EU and have some aer stuff if I remember correctly

    I use the Bellroy sling and the magnetic lock is not bad. But I wouldn't use it for cycling in general. I tend to prefer a small backpack or a messenger bag with stabiliser strap when on a bicycle. The sling bag slipping itself is the more annoying factor for my situation. I do have a sling with no maglock which is my favourite. I bought it in Japan a long time ago and have not seen a similar one since.

  • @IanFollett

    I know you're right about Fidlocks from a practicality standpoint but I just don't care. I love those things. The one on my X-POD sling makes the bag feel like it's from the future. But then I don't ride a motorcycle so it's not as big a deal for me if it comes loose.

    Honestly I had no idea you were reading off a teleprompter. I think because you sprinkle your videos with so many different shots of the product in question, while you are talking over the video, you talking in person does not actually make up a majority of the video length. I think if you were to start posting videos where it's just you talking in front of a video for 15+ minutes, then I'll probably suspect there's a teleprompter in front of you. Other than that, great job, I thought you read off the teleprompter very naturally.👍

    since you are already using tape, why can't you just put a little bit of grip tape on the back of your aer bag so that it does not slide?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  Рік тому

      To solve the problem this is an interesting idea. But grip tape would damage all of your clothing. Therefore I would advise against this modification

    tomtoc t21 is 9.45oz versus the heavier aer day sling 3 xpac: 13.79oz. i chose tomtoc, lighter, more compact, fits the body better, half the price, zipper opens easier. looks better in my opinion, doesn't have issues with buckle. aer seems over built for my use case of light city walking. Because it's half the price, I can buy the larger tomtoc 11 inch version for days when I need more capacity. I can have 2 of these bags for about the same cost of the aer bag. I have them all here to try, but for me in person it's clear which one I want to keep and which to return. I have to travel to the SF aer store tomorrow to return before my 14 day return window ends.
