      Lol I know this old. But I love how you saud grandpa snail. Lol. I think he is coolest. I think they look awesome when they have algae growing off them. He must spend a good amount of time above ground. I can wait for mine to start breeding. I love snails.

    A good tip for snail tanks, if you're low on Calcium(If your water doesn't need buffering) You can add pieces of Cuttlebone. Normally a product for birds to chew on, but it's great for snail tanks.

    Yeah...I bought 2 of these for $9 each at my LFS...dropped them in my tank and they promptly buried themselves in the sand. One has since passed so it's shell is probably my most expensive piece of decor.

    • @AquariumCoop
      @AquariumCoop  7 років тому +5

      Yikes, thats unfortunate. $9 each, you could make some serious money locally breeding those if you have an avenue to sell them.

    I bought a plant and it had 6 stow away rams horn snails.
    They turned to 300 rams horn snails in a week and crashed my tank.
    I bought 4 assassin snails and they cleared the tank of rams horn snails in 2 weeks.
    They are slow breeders and they dont bother the shrimp.
    Ive had mine for 1 year and I now have an estimated 12 assassin snails.
    The number is estimated because they rarely come out in the open... and then its only to feed

    i love this assasin snails...i got some bladder snails with last plants i put in my tank and i got a huge amount of them in a short period of time.I caught around 10 snails every day by hand and they seemed to be even more ... so I put some assasin snails in the aquarium and in a month they cleaned my aquarium of large snails. Now I have to search the aquarium to find a bladder snail. they are very good at what they do and it is a better and natural way to control the population of unwanted snails

    • @AquariumCoop

      I'm just saying both of my colonies move forward and have thriving populations when I have them together. Every situation is different. If I had very few shrimp etc, I'd start them out alone first for sure.

    Oh god I never knew about that crazy proboscis thing. I got a bunch for our tank because of a massive pest snail infestation, and they went on a rampage. From what I've seen they like to attach themselves to the opening of the shell, and obviously they keep the proboscis out of sight and inside the prey snail shell. I think two of our have become somewhat attached to each other, so we might get baby proboscis monsters before long.

    Hi Cory - Great video and advice buddy. The one thing I would for people is that Assassin snails do have a male and a female so to start breeding get a few to make sure you have both genders. if you just get 5 or less from your LFS you may be unlucky enough to get all the same gender and then they cannot breed. Peace Ben

    Hi, I'm Jake and I have a question,
    I have a newly set up aquarium(16 gallon) and I seem to be having a issue with large surface dust. I'm not quite sure on how to get rid of it.I hoped my filter would just suck them up but all it seems to be doing is pushing groups of it to the edge of the tank.😐
    All suggestions will help.👌🏻

    • @AquariumCoop

      Do you have an airstone? Usually that'll solve that problem.

    • @jakedavis1278
      @jakedavis1278 7 років тому +2

      No currently I don't because I am planning on getting a pair of German blue rams and I have heard that even air stones can spook them.
      My filter also seems to be blowing a almost white cloud? Was curious as to what that might be from?

    How has your breeding of Ancistrus claro been coming? I believe that is a fish the market sorely needs more of! Unfortunately, they often cost as much as $100 or more now & that is if you can even find them captive breed at all!

    • @AquariumCoop
      @AquariumCoop  6 років тому

    • @wcdeich4
      @wcdeich4 6 років тому

      I'm sorry it did not work out. So the cost of of the running the tank they were in until the babies were old enough to sell, divided by the number of babies was around $29.99?

    Can you keep snails with mollies? I know mollies like hard water but snails use calcium to make their shells. Will that lower the hardness. I add no crushed coral to my tank since the water is naturally very hard but now with the snails i was just wondering.

    hi cory, thanks for the amazing videos, you have give me some really good ideas in what i want to achive in the world of aquatics. now me and you have the same love for guppies and i have been breeding them for about 10 years now. i stopped about 3 years ago due to a medical issue but now i am setting up again. i was in my lfs and they have told me they don't sell guppies due to they are now classed as brackish fish and need salt water to live. can you shed some light on this, as in the 10 years ive been breeding i have never herd that. once again thanks cory your videos are greate for people like me. :)

    • @AquariumCoop
      @AquariumCoop  7 років тому +3

      Most countries producing guppies are raising them in brackish water because fresh water is more expensive. So it sounds like a good opportunity for you to get some, breed them in fresh and supply them to your local store.

    • @artonmysleevearton5538
      @artonmysleevearton5538 7 років тому

      thanks for the reply cory, the lfs will not take fish from local breeders as they can not quoranteen the fish, sorry for spelling wrong. that has now put me of buying there knowing this. i offered and they said that the only way they would take them from me is if it was free. i do sell to other lfs but not making as much as i did 5 years ago. i think alot of people in the uk breed so its harder to get people to take your stock for cash. i work hard at it and its not really paying off. looking for my own gaff though hopefully 2018 i will get my shop up and running, will send you videos of the build, (if and when i get started)
