Lol I know this old. But I love how you saud grandpa snail. Lol. I think he is coolest. I think they look awesome when they have algae growing off them. He must spend a good amount of time above ground. I can wait for mine to start breeding. I love snails.
A good tip for snail tanks, if you're low on Calcium(If your water doesn't need buffering) You can add pieces of Cuttlebone. Normally a product for birds to chew on, but it's great for snail tanks.
Sweet! I've been thinking about breeding those but I thought I'd have to set up a whole new tank for them. Cory I cannot thank you enough for these breeding fish for profit videos. They have saved me a lot of money already and made me feel a lot more confident in my choices.
Yeah...I bought 2 of these for $9 each at my LFS...dropped them in my tank and they promptly buried themselves in the sand. One has since passed so it's shell is probably my most expensive piece of decor.
Totally agreed. I've been working on getting a colony of assassins breeding for profit for a few months now. They're one snail nearly everyone is interested in buying.
I bought a plant and it had 6 stow away rams horn snails. They turned to 300 rams horn snails in a week and crashed my tank. I bought 4 assassin snails and they cleared the tank of rams horn snails in 2 weeks. They are slow breeders and they dont bother the shrimp. Ive had mine for 1 year and I now have an estimated 12 assassin snails. The number is estimated because they rarely come out in the open... and then its only to feed
I also find to have happy assassins I drop them muscle depending on the amount you have start with half a muscle as you turn out your tank lights and you will see them rushing to it. muscles grow muscles
i love this assasin snails...i got some bladder snails with last plants i put in my tank and i got a huge amount of them in a short period of time.I caught around 10 snails every day by hand and they seemed to be even more ... so I put some assasin snails in the aquarium and in a month they cleaned my aquarium of large snails. Now I have to search the aquarium to find a bladder snail. they are very good at what they do and it is a better and natural way to control the population of unwanted snails
This is really interesting. I've always heard they can't go with shrimp and will kill their own kind but as usual cory comes in to turn everything I think I know on its head!
I'm just saying both of my colonies move forward and have thriving populations when I have them together. Every situation is different. If I had very few shrimp etc, I'd start them out alone first for sure.
Love learning more about snails. I have historically been a snail hater because I have only ever had pest snails. Maybe I need to try some cooler ones.
Very interesting. I think I will enjoy this series! Keep up the great work! I received my order of sponge filters yesterday! Super fast shipping! Thanks so much!
Iv just started breeding these my.local aquarium sells 5 for 10 bucks but noticed he'd gave me 6 so its a good start! Just feeding on catfish pellets and bloodworm at moment love these things haha!
Oh god I never knew about that crazy proboscis thing. I got a bunch for our tank because of a massive pest snail infestation, and they went on a rampage. From what I've seen they like to attach themselves to the opening of the shell, and obviously they keep the proboscis out of sight and inside the prey snail shell. I think two of our have become somewhat attached to each other, so we might get baby proboscis monsters before long.
Hi Cory - Great video and advice buddy. The one thing I would for people is that Assassin snails do have a male and a female so to start breeding get a few to make sure you have both genders. if you just get 5 or less from your LFS you may be unlucky enough to get all the same gender and then they cannot breed. Peace Ben
I’m going to try to breed these in a 10 gallon aquarium with white sand and some rocks and some Java moss. Is a 10 gallon aquarium too small for 10 of them. I also have a 20 gallon I can use would that be a better option???
In belgium you can sell them for maximum 50 cent a piece on "the second market" (from other "breeders"), even when you sell just one, the price is only 50 cents. So no breeding for profit here.
Love it. I have been breeding these guys like crazy but my local fish stores wont buy anything from me. They are old school and they dont trust local breeders like me unless I am breeding African cichlids. Oh well, just wanted to vent..:)
I'm looking for a permanent residents for my quarantine tank, just something to be in it, seems wasteful to have a tank running just in case I get a new fish. would the snails be at risk from fish borne diseases?
Question! I have one assassin and he is releasing what looks like white smoke into the water. Can one snail give birth to more snails on it’s own? What’s the white smoke?! And do they need salt water to breed? I don’t want any breeding going on lol
Cory I have a single assassin in my tetra tank for 6 months. Today I found 3 assassin eggs. She has no mate for a full 6 months. The center of the egg is white not yellow. Could she have stored sperm that long or are these unfertilized?
The tank were i have mine is full of algae, because they eat the snails, and the shrimp don't clean the glass! The bread slowly, grow slowly, but breath like crazy. I sold a few all ready, and will sell a lot more, i hope :)
Any tips for adding these guys to an established tank? I’ve tried adding several from my lfs a few blocks from me and none have made it past a week for me. Water tests show my tank should be in good condition, I’ve kept my tank heat set to 80 or just a hair below. Any info would be awesome thanks Cory. Btw love your videos
Hi, I'm Jake and I have a question, I have a newly set up aquarium(16 gallon) and I seem to be having a issue with large surface dust. I'm not quite sure on how to get rid of it.I hoped my filter would just suck them up but all it seems to be doing is pushing groups of it to the edge of the tank.😐 All suggestions will help.👌🏻
No currently I don't because I am planning on getting a pair of German blue rams and I have heard that even air stones can spook them. My filter also seems to be blowing a almost white cloud? Was curious as to what that might be from?
How has your breeding of Ancistrus claro been coming? I believe that is a fish the market sorely needs more of! Unfortunately, they often cost as much as $100 or more now & that is if you can even find them captive breed at all!
I'm sorry it did not work out. So the cost of of the running the tank they were in until the babies were old enough to sell, divided by the number of babies was around $29.99?
In my experience I've never witnessed it and have happily bred both in the same tank. Doesn't mean it isn't happening, I just haven't seen it and it hasn't seemed to effect my breeding efforts.
Flynn's Fish Forum they kill other snails. They will eat dead fish but they won't hunt and kill fish. Also they mostly leave there own kind alone too provided you keep them well fed.
Can you keep snails with mollies? I know mollies like hard water but snails use calcium to make their shells. Will that lower the hardness. I add no crushed coral to my tank since the water is naturally very hard but now with the snails i was just wondering.
hi cory, thanks for the amazing videos, you have give me some really good ideas in what i want to achive in the world of aquatics. now me and you have the same love for guppies and i have been breeding them for about 10 years now. i stopped about 3 years ago due to a medical issue but now i am setting up again. i was in my lfs and they have told me they don't sell guppies due to they are now classed as brackish fish and need salt water to live. can you shed some light on this, as in the 10 years ive been breeding i have never herd that. once again thanks cory your videos are greate for people like me. :)
Most countries producing guppies are raising them in brackish water because fresh water is more expensive. So it sounds like a good opportunity for you to get some, breed them in fresh and supply them to your local store.
thanks for the reply cory, the lfs will not take fish from local breeders as they can not quoranteen the fish, sorry for spelling wrong. that has now put me of buying there knowing this. i offered and they said that the only way they would take them from me is if it was free. i do sell to other lfs but not making as much as i did 5 years ago. i think alot of people in the uk breed so its harder to get people to take your stock for cash. i work hard at it and its not really paying off. looking for my own gaff though hopefully 2018 i will get my shop up and running, will send you videos of the build, (if and when i get started)
So I've had 4 assasin snails in a 20 high for almost a year now! they constantly lay eggs all over plant pots and decore, but I've yet to see a new snail come forth from the substrate. :/ @aquariumcoop @rachelO'leary
We are planning on testing it soon in the near future, but nothing concrete yet. Takes us quite a while to launch products to our standards so I don't want to get everyone's hopes up.

i know it is quite off topic but do anyone know a good place to watch new movies online ?
@Ari Martin Flixportal :P
@Cash Rex Thanks, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) I appreciate it!!
@Ari Martin no problem :)
Cory, I love these little "idea" videos! I'm always looking for something new to keep the hobby interesting and new. Keep these coming! Thanks!
These guys tend to only go after shrimp if starved. They do a great job eating pest snails, and look really cool as well!
I have 2 assassins in different tanks. Not sure when I moved them together but now I'm finding babies!
Love the grandpa snail! : -) Thanks for the great video!

Wow that harpoon thing is craaazy, great video Cory 😁
Yeah...I bought 2 of these for $9 each at my LFS...dropped them in my tank and they promptly buried themselves in the sand. One has since passed so it's shell is probably my most expensive piece of decor.
Yikes, thats unfortunate. $9 each, you could make some serious money locally breeding those if you have an avenue to sell them.
This serious is the perfect idea. we have been needing something like this. honestly I can't wait to see the next one. thanks Cory.
Great idea, I've just started breeding snails. Loving the whole process. Another great video.
Great idea for a series. With the number of fish out there its hard to find a benefit for one over another to breed for profit.
Hmm this is good, I got an assassin snail a few months ago and I swear I'm seeing baby ones now
Thank you, that was just the info I needed! 🙂
Totally agreed. I've been working on getting a colony of assassins breeding for profit for a few months now. They're one snail nearly everyone is interested in buying.
The secret is out :)
I bought a plant and it had 6 stow away rams horn snails.

Thank you for the tip. I thought it was very useful for someone trying to do this for profit.
Love learning more about snails. I have historically been a snail hater because I have only ever had pest snails. Maybe I need to try some cooler ones.
Maybe so, but honestly my favorite snail is the pond snail which is a pest snail :)
Haha man, you would love my tanks then ; )
Very interesting. I think I will enjoy this series! Keep up the great work!
I received my order of sponge filters yesterday! Super fast shipping! Thanks so much!
Thanks for ordering!
Grandpa Assasin looks badass haha
I appreciate everything you do Cory thanks bud
I used to have a Malaysian Trumpet problem. No more. I started with 5 assassins. Now I have 20.
Iv just started breeding these my.local aquarium sells 5 for 10 bucks but noticed he'd gave me 6 so its a good start! Just feeding on catfish pellets and bloodworm at moment love these things haha!

Thanks, great idea. Michel from Quebec.
have these snails in every tank :) great video!
Nice :)
Found your podcast today. Awesome content
Thanks for the new breeding for profit idea, now I've gotta find these locally!
Hi Cory - Great video and advice buddy. That is true, I'm not sure how to sex them honestly.
By all accounts its difficult to impossible Cory.
Interesting! Great video, thanks
I have 3 tanks where I breed ram's horn snails, then put in assassin snail, but I really like the bug bites suggestion; I can free up some tanks!
Love all of your info.
love the series cory all your vid r awesome
Do a khuli loach video or just do a loach video
I’m going to try to breed these in a 10 gallon aquarium with white sand and some rocks and some Java moss. Is a 10 gallon aquarium too small for 10 of them. I also have a 20 gallon I can use would that be a better option???
Breeder sell them $15+ea here in Australia!
zoinks!
Love this series 👍
In belgium you can sell them for maximum 50 cent a piece on "the second market" (from other "breeders"), even when you sell just one, the price is only 50 cents. So no breeding for profit here.
Bought 3 assassin snails about 5 months ago. About a month ago I saw my first baby and I am about to sift the sand and see how many I have!
Love it. I have been breeding these guys like crazy but my local fish stores wont buy anything from me. They are old school and they dont trust local breeders like me unless I am breeding African cichlids. Oh well, just wanted to vent..:)
Love assassins! I have a little over 100 now
Keep the series going
I'm looking for a permanent residents for my quarantine tank, just something to be in it, seems wasteful to have a tank running just in case I get a new fish. would the snails be at risk from fish borne diseases?
Question! I have one assassin and he is releasing what looks like white smoke into the water. Can one snail give birth to more snails on it’s own?
What’s the white smoke?! And do they need salt water to breed? I don’t want any breeding going on lol
I just found 8 assassin eggs. I'm freaking excited! how long do they take to get big?
How do you feed Them in a 190 liter, with lots og fish.
The fish eat every Thing before the snails can eat it.
Cory I have a single assassin in my tetra tank for 6 months. Today I found 3 assassin eggs. She has no mate for a full 6 months. The center of the egg is white not yellow. Could she have stored sperm that long or are these unfertilized?
Can they breed in a small container, say 1 gallon, and no substrates?
The tank were i have mine is full of algae, because they eat the snails, and the shrimp don't clean the glass!
The bread slowly, grow slowly, but breath like crazy.
I sold a few all ready, and will sell a lot more, i hope :)
Hey Cory do you have a video on how you use general Cure?
ua-cam.com/video/mJKzwZfmuNU/v-deo.html
Aquarium Co-Op thank you
more tips would be awsome
I got 6 of these to deal with my MTS overpopulation, they layed so many eggs but takes months for babies to get to sellable size
Oh it's definitely a slow raising process but almost labor free.
Super easy to breed. I threw them in my community tank and soon had some babies. They are soooo tiny
What type/brand of substrate would you recommend for breeding them Cory? I could definitely use some for my tanks and a little extra LFS credit!
How many can i put in a 5.5 gallon tank?
Any tips for adding these guys to an established tank? I’ve tried adding several from my lfs a few blocks from me and none have made it past a week for me. Water tests show my tank should be in good condition, I’ve kept my tank heat set to 80 or just a hair below. Any info would be awesome thanks Cory. Btw love your videos
Sweet video...
Hi, I'm Jake and I have a question,
I have a newly set up aquarium(16 gallon) and I seem to be having a issue with large surface dust. I'm not quite sure on how to get rid of it.I hoped my filter would just suck them up but all it seems to be doing is pushing groups of it to the edge of the tank.😐
All suggestions will help.👌🏻
Do you have an airstone? Usually that'll solve that problem.
No currently I don't because I am planning on getting a pair of German blue rams and I have heard that even air stones can spook them.
My filter also seems to be blowing a almost white cloud? Was curious as to what that might be from?
Are these fine with dwarf cichlids and angelfish
I've had good luck with em with those.
Really helpful video
How about mystery snails to breed?
How has your breeding of Ancistrus claro been coming? I believe that is a fish the market sorely needs more of! Unfortunately, they often cost as much as $100 or more now & that is if you can even find them captive breed at all!
I stopped breeding them. We could make more than were selling at$29.99 and less then that it wasn't worth raising to a safe sellable size.
I'm sorry it did not work out. So the cost of of the running the tank they were in until the babies were old enough to sell, divided by the number of babies was around $29.99?
do you think that they would kill baby shrimp? id like to try breeding these in the same tank as shrimp. thanks and keep the vids coming.
In my experience I've never witnessed it and have happily bred both in the same tank. Doesn't mean it isn't happening, I just haven't seen it and it hasn't seemed to effect my breeding efforts.
ok cool. thanks for the info guys. maybe ill give it a shot
Do these snails only kill their own kind, or will they also kill small fish like neons?
Flynn's Fish Forum they kill other snails. They will eat dead fish but they won't hunt and kill fish. Also they mostly leave there own kind alone too provided you keep them well fed.

I keep mollies with assassin snails and both are doing great
How do I sell them to a local pet store
hi cory, thanks for the amazing videos, you have give me some really good ideas in what i want to achive in the world of aquatics. now me and you have the same love for guppies and i have been breeding them for about 10 years now. i stopped about 3 years ago due to a medical issue but now i am setting up again. i was in my lfs and they have told me they don't sell guppies due to they are now classed as brackish fish and need salt water to live. can you shed some light on this, as in the 10 years ive been breeding i have never herd that. once again thanks cory your videos are greate for people like me. :)

What tank of mail guppy is that in the tank?
Ah wtf they are like the creepy alien version of the snails kind 😂 they look cool tho
I can buy them for other fishkeepers for just € 0,50 they are great snails!
Wow ♻️☯️🐚😊
How big is this tank?
maybe a stupid question but, will assassin snails eat ALL other snails?
I haven't tested it on all snails. Like maybe Japanese trapdoor snails and Mystery snails i haven't tested really.
So I've had 4 assasin snails in a 20 high for almost a year now! they constantly lay eggs all over plant pots and decore, but I've yet to see a new snail come forth from the substrate. :/ @aquariumcoop @rachelO'leary
Nice, btw, what strain guppy was that with your assassins?
it was more like a blue lace.. im not sure.. but that was really nice guppy!
+Wyll Yancha black metal lace guppy
Do these eat Hydra?
My guppy fry kill any snails for some reason
Weird, I haven't had that problem.
I have been using Krill pellets and just noticed I have like 15 babies now! first time in nearly a year so must of done something right lol
Perfect, krill is high in protein and probably just right for em.
That must be it then, my guppies seem to eat it as well, hope that is ok
Will assassin snails attack/kill much larger snails (like an apple)?
I haven't kept them together much, so I'm not sure.
yes some people have experienced anentoma attack apple snales when they can attack in group. In my tank it never happened, so it depends....
The real question is if they're compatible with pea puffers
I like this video who couldn't use more money........
No Murphy feeding :(
what food do you feed them
is it same food as the shrimp
do assassin snails eat each other? How can you prevent that?
no they not, they eat other snails
would beef heart work?
I haven't tested it, but I think it would work well.
im surprised you would recommen snails to sell
I'm sitting her wondering how the heck u get food past ur guppies....mine are absolute pigs and eat anything that touches the water lol.
Neet 🤓
Selling these online anytime soon Cory?
We are planning on testing it soon in the near future, but nothing concrete yet. Takes us quite a while to launch products to our standards so I don't want to get everyone's hopes up.
I am happy to be a guinea pig for you 😀
How much inbreeding is too much…. Serious question
🤠👍🏻
#ICONCUR
i LIKE it L:)
3 😄

Dang it! I was 501!!! I always try to be first 500 to watch the video :(
Life goals :)
Aquarium Co-Op What is a good price for buying a pair of guppies? Also does having bio media on the gravel help or not?
