Thank you so much! I was grateful you went through the entire process, now I know what to expect. I bought 10 Assassins but they are still quite small. Now I will recognize eggs when they dot my tank and also know what to expect. Much appreciated! 🙂
I'm breeding my own assassin army. I have about 2 dozen individuals and they started laying eggs last month. Egg count is at least double the population. Still have a major problem with pond snails though. the assassins MDK a lot of them though, I always have plenty empty shells floating around my tank. the little baby twisties are the cutest thing I have ever seen.
Thanks for the video! I only have 2 adult assassins in my 10g tropical tank but they happened to be mixed gender. They bred every other day for 12+ hrs, then separate to scavenge food and for the female to lay egg(s). I bought them for $6 each. I got them about 10 months ago and I am just now seeing babies!!! I think they have stayed much more hidden as I have a small pea gravel substrate. I think sand is preferred but the are eating and breeding just fine all the same! Your video is the first time I’ve seen a baby assassin snail! I wasn’t sure if they would look like their parents or what but I have confirmed lots now and they do look like mini assassins! My local store will buy them off of me for store credit which I am happy to do. They do want me to wait until they are a little bigger, which will probably take several more months but we are good. I am also finding that the snails breed more often when I feed higher protein in the tank, but then eat fewer MTS. Since I really wanted to grow my colony, I feed them very high protein for months - now that I’ve got eggs all over the tank I’ll back off a bit so they start getting the MTS under control. I have a bunch of pretty small MTS that the adults completely ignore, in favor of choosing the larger ones. I was also told by a breeder that it’s better to have slightly harder water as it helps them grow strong shells :) I’ve also noticed that the few babies I’ve seen are not eating like or smaller sized MTS…not sure if they have to reach a certain size or not?? Also interested to know at what age/size they become sexually mature and start breeding amongst each other?? Thanks!!
Thanks man, and thanks for the ongoing support. Think you might like the next video coming on Friday. Just by the way, I haven’t forgot about your comment for a dwarf gourami video. It is on my list coming up 👍
@@ChrisExploresLife Ooh im excited now. And thank you for being such a genuine guy. Not many youtubers take the time out of their day to respond to people.
Very cool , thx :) I have MTS in my tank too from some fish purchase or another..I had Zebra loaches before I got them but for some reason they left them alone for a long time and they took over a bit. Idk what changed but now they kill a lot of them. Not sure if the MTS will ever go away completely but they are good for the tank and you rarely see them unless the lights are off. They sometimes pop up for algae wafers during the day that's about it. If I didn't have the Zebra loaches I'd try these guys out heh. Profit !
Oh yeah MTS are great for the tank, clean the glass and the substrate. As long as you can keep the population under control. Seems your zebra loaches are doing a good job of that. Which is great! If you ever run into trouble these assassins are also great, they look a bit more colourful too haha. All the best man!
@@ChrisExploresLife They are killing a decent amount, I'm getting a bit tired of cleaning up all the empty shells lol. Just had a bunch of new babies climbing the glass even with the lights on. I hear the bio load is super small on MTS because they eat their own poop as well as fish poop and all the other stuff. Looked into that and almost everyone agrees its just a matter of how many you want to look at. Its funny seeing in forums and videos people asking how to get rid of snails and people always reply send them to me xD
@@byrguy1295 Haha its totally true, a lot of people are asking for them. They do a great job of cleaning, and a super low bioload. I enjoy having them in the tank for those purposes, just as long as their population is under control haha
I started with three and now my tank is overrun with assassin snails. Easily 75+. They eat the brine shrimp and ground foods I give my Cories. Wish I had someone in the Toronto area who wanted them.
It could just be a numbers game. Not sure how many pond snails you have. But if you have too few assassin snails, then the pond snails will reproduce at a rate faster than the assassins can consume them. Might need more assassins. But also as assassins breed the numbers could get better for them.
Unfortunately not, that was a Jardini Arowna at the place I sold the Assassin snails too. However if you Google or UA-cam Jardini Arowana you should find some 👍🏻 thanks man.
Did you happen to catch your Assassins breeding? I have two, one is much larger. Quite often I find them stuck together. Sometimes the smaller one (the instigator) visibly thrusts into the other. Are they mating or is it a dominance ploy??
@@ChrisExploresLife I know that. But I think separate occassion you mentioned "how does Malaysian trumpets hunt" and "now we have baby malaysian trumpets." No biggie I jus got a bit confused for a second then I realized you meant to say assasin.
Hey, I do sell but typically only to the fish groups I'm part of locally in the area 😊 so no online sales, but maybe something I'll look at in the future.

Interesting i wish i was in an area where i had a local fishtore that would purchase them or more interested hobbyist that would.

ship to me in bc vancouver area
Try a local fish store to sell to 😊
Where in SA is the assassin snail breeder based?
So I just water change by taking water off the top and not the bottom.
3:01 I accidentally spilled ph down in my tank. As i was quickly doing a water change, the snails polluted the tank with snail slime. it was awful.
My 6 assassin didn't reduce my pond snail at all after 6 month. The pond snails numbers just keeped increasing. Any reason why? TIA

Do you have a video on the big chungus fish at the start of the video

Hi awesome video would love to purchase your next batch of 30

Definitely did. Was quite interesting to watch 😄🙌
Is it me or did you mention Malaysian trumpet snails instead of assassins
So Malaysian Trumpet snails are the other snails in the tank, the ones that the Assassin snails eat.
@@ChrisExploresLife I know that. But I think separate occassion you mentioned "how does Malaysian trumpets hunt" and "now we have baby malaysian trumpets." No biggie I jus got a bit confused for a second then I realized you meant to say assasin.
Hey yeah I also noticed that, probably confusion
i buy like 4 of them i now i have more then 30 when they breed
Sounds like a great way to breed and sell them 🙌🏻
Do you sell? Is there a link or store? Love the vid :)
