Hi from North Queensland Australia, and I agree with the above comment. You have a beautiful voice, I just gave your song a like on Spotify ❤ congrats on its release.
Eminem talked about going back to his daughter in the trailer. Kasey was the daughter in the trailer, and now she's on stage performing with her father. She doesn't just feel the lyrics, she's lived them.
I think of Eminem differently as a lyracist after hearing Kasey unpack it in this way - I love everything Kasey's ever done. So proud of my Aussie home girl 🇦🇺 ❤
Eminem is a poet. Amazing lyricist! Give him a good honest chance. Dysfunctional relationships, core wounds, generational trauma, addiction, autism, codependency, mental illness, bullying, poverty, the list goes on. But also, hope, strength, and a 12-step program doing its work. Truely amazing storyteller.

Yep, not a lot of music coming out these days does much for me. I grew up in the 70's and early 80's and I think we were spoilt for choice. Then the record label gurus decided to dumb music down and produce what I describe as modern day elevator music or plain garbage where the video clip is more important than the words and music. TBH Kasey Chambers to me was just a pop country artist with a couple hits in the early 2000's but this track woke me up and I have since gone back and listened to a few of her albums. She is very underrated and deserves more accolades and success than she has got.

Having just seen Kasey perform this live in Torquay tonight I can tell you that it's incredible live. It's like Kasey could rebirth her career just on this song alone.
I first saw Kasey Chambers live in a club auditorium in Canberra. It was before she started her solo career and she was fronting the Dead Ringer Band - comprised of he mum and dad and her brother Nash (Her Dad Bill is a great fan and interpreter of American Roots, traditional and alternative country) They had scheduled a 3rd concert as 2 in that venue had sold out - Mainly because we had been plugging them relentlessly on local community radio. That night a massive storm hit Canberra, roofs came off, cars were blown off the roads, power-lines went down - and I was one of about 35 people who made it to the concert, which went ahead as planned because the Dead Ringers don’t let their fans down. Kasey sang, like a gritty heartbroken angel, with relentless soul, and I sat there with my mouth open most of the time, with tears and laughter - her voice can open you like a can-opener and tip out all the contents. The first review I ever wrote on the internet was about Kasey Chambers. I don’t remember what else I said - But I did say that Kasey is the ONE. She doesn’t know how to hold back. Yes, I’m a fan - and this shows exactly why…
I saw her a couple of times at the Canberra Theatre after Barricades and Brickwalls had been released. A funny, entertaining and engaging performer between songs that ripped your heart out. One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen.
Its one of those YT musical moments that doesn't come along every day and its credit to any reactor that spots the genius in this. She's a country singer which I would never have said this would work but thankfully she has made magic here.
She almost keens in this. The 1st half is all the defeated emotion of the song, then the switch up when is when in 8 Mile you see him get serious about the final showdowns. So much raw emotion, and Kasey does that so well. Let's not forget this was a Country Artist's audience watching her rendition of a Rap song - and you could hear a pin drop in the 1st half !
The thing that strikes me is as you said Kasey is allowing the ugly to come through and not hiding it. -She knows the power in the ugly and authentic and there is a time and place to cover and make things beautiful and then other times to let the ugly come through and be visible. I think this comes with age. I cant imagine this performance would be as powerful with a younger woman singing it.
The way Kasey uses her vocals with high and low tones to strip this song back and slow it down to expose the lyrics is amazing . Credit to Emiem who wrote the song im now a fan at 62 .
As much as I love folk, country music get on my nerve (I don't understand why, I have nothing against it) so I was worried when you mentioned she was a country singer, and then this happens, a pure raw artistic expression pulverizing the part of my brain which thinks living without categorizing is impossible to go straight to the emotional one. That was so great!
Good country music is poetry. Dolly Parton spits bars (just read the lyrics to 9 to 5). Chris Stapleton tells a story so efficiently. Eminem is an amazing lyricists. This blend is a perfect marriage. It brings so much power to an already powerful song.
@@toddeeee To be honest, it was a purely musical reaction, English is not my first language and I never heard the song before so I have no clue what the song is about ^^
Love Kasey. Love this song. I get Janis Joplin vibes from her in this. I always felt US country music elicits images of cowboys and ranches out west, where as Aussie country was outback and stations and pubs. Similar storyteller styles but a different take. Thanks for the reaction. 👍
I’m so in love with this version of the song!!❤ so powerful ❤. I’m from Texas and the hardships come from working off the land, crops or livestock 🤠 we have to let it out!! This lady is AMAZING!!!!
Before her family went full time into the music industry they lived in a 'mobile home' travelling the desert from July 1976 where the parents hunted foxes and rabbits for pelts during seven or eight months a year, spanning nine years. During the "hot months" (generally from November to March) they returned to Southend, South Australia, where her family owned a fish and chip shop for a time. She knows.
Kasey is an Aussie icon. An amazing singer with such a beautiful country/blue grass voice and is a very talented artist. She pours her soul into her singing, she gives everything to her story and she creates a picture of life Casey style. She left herself on the floor, nothing left in the tank, her heart and soul all out for all too see.
Best reaction. I've watched a lot of others. Some just say they didn't enjoy the first part and that it was really good and surprising once it heated up, but you really got the emotion of it, and explained things about her voice, and how she put everything into the whole song. What Kasey did to this song is just brilliant. She really made it her own, and yes, the lyrics can be heard, so we can see what a great writer Eminem is. I never get tired of seeing reaction videos to this version by Kasey. She absolutely took it to somewhere completely different and amazing 🤩

I probably heard that same broadcast of Prairie Home Companion. I was on the road with my band and stopped into a record shop (remember those?) in Prescott AZ and bought the CD. Been a huge fan ever since.
There is something about watching a new reactor see this for the first time. Kasey's voice is so beautiful in the beginning and the reactors are blown away by her artistic interpretation but all through the first and second verse, I am just fixated on the thought in the back of my head that says "You don't know what's coming! Just wait! Just wait!" and then the 3rd verse kicks in and I get to see another reactor just blown away by where Kasey takes this. I so desperately want to see Eminem react to this. If it exists out there in the ether, PLEASE link me!!
@@grooveworx3327 Actually - there is no evidence Eminem has seen/heard this. The fact that it's on Kasey's Spotify doesn't mean anyone has given her permission. The Bass brothers, through their publishing company - Eight Mile Style own the copyright to it & most of Eminem's early music & whilst they have court cases going suing Spotify for copyright infringements - they're for Eminem's original music - not covers. As far as uploading covers to Spotify - an artist must adhere to the Compulsory Licensing regulations - they must notify the copyright holder before uploading (notify NOT seek permission) & must follow the set Royalties % per download UNLESS they're uploading to the United States, Mexico, Canada, Pakistan, and Indian markets - then they require a Mechanical License which is an agreement between the artist & the copyright owner for a set Royalties % for a set number of downloads (usually a minimum of 200.) The artist then needs to renew the License before the number is reached (this allows the copyright owner to ask for a higher % if the cover is massively popular or the artist to ask for the % to be lowered if it's not selling.)
Brilliant! Kasey didn't just 'SING' this Kasey 'LIVED' it. Slowly telling the story...then showing the emotion of the song....then ANGER! Wow I had my hand on my heart and tears in my eyes. Beth your analysis of this was so spot on. Watching your face as the song became more intense was irresistible, I know how you felt...and it was a dawning of awareness of times from the past as you stated. First time I had actually 'heard' the lyrics...and I'd love to know what Eminem thinks about this as I believe Kasey has done his lyrics justice. Suggest 'Captain' 'I ain't no little girl' oh and so many more please. Saying hi from Australia.
What an amazing piece of art. Starting as quiet and soft yet emotional, only to drop into raw, sweaty and gritty. Kasey makes no attempt to hide from her emotions, the mark of a true artist. Her band delivers 100%. Even the use of phone footage adds to the drama. And as others have said before me, nothing equals this in today's music.
Thanks for doing this one! Kasey is very under appreciated and needs to be recognised more on an international scale! Kasey is a master of storytelling, conveying lyrics and emotion! She is an icon in the Australian music industry, mostly for country and folk, but has her own style and is never afraid to delve into something outside the box. She is just getting better as she gets older. I really hope that Eminem has seen this and appreciates that his song and lyrics were re-imagined in such a spectacular way. Where else would you see banjo, pedal steel guitar and rock band together? Kasey started her solo commercial career around the same time as Eminem and she was a big fan of his music. Kasey spent lockdown playing around with some of her favourite songs and this version of Lose Yourself is the result. Brilliant! Kasey has spent her whole solo career bucking the constraints of the record companies and always gone her way. She made it to the top in Aussie music anyway with many awards, becoming the youngest ever ARIA Hall of Fame recipient. BTW….how was Lose Yourself for breath and vocal control? Not to mention the awesome arrangement. ❤ Also, that was Kasey’s Dad, Bill, on the steel guitar.
WOW! Is all there is to say 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Stunning voice, I'll have to check out her other songs As an Em fan, it's really interesting to hear the song sung like this, it's truly beautiful & really makes it that much more emotional 💗
Thank you so much for this one Beth, Kasey deserves all the support in the world. She's a legend here in Aus, and has a large catalogue of music to back it up.
Simply wow and she kicked azz totally with a rap song and made it her own...simply wow and I can't stop hearing it and how impactful this version was and is...great reaction Beth.
I have never seen you so moved and blown away by a performance before and lve watched most of your vids. To have you get how incredible Kaseys performance is was the best thing lve ever witnessed other than her actually doing it. Beth, that was gold!
I had heard Kasey many times on the radio and it was just kind of background noise, never really took a lot of notice. My wife really liked her so we went to see her in concert. It only took 5 words and I was blown away " am I not pretty enough" I was just amazed by her live and have been ever since. We have been lucky enough to see her twice in very intimate settings with only around 20 people and was there when she sang aint no little girl for one of the first times live, before that album was released. My wife and I were both in tears, it was just so gut wrenching and emotional. She really meant what she was singing. Life time fan here for sure.
As a South Australian, it genuinely super cool to listen to our fellow Brits breaking down our music. To understand it is to understand that indeed, including Sia, we are but a bunch of people who struggle with alchahol
Interesting to see your reactions.....I've played this over 10 times now, and each has taken me to the edge..... Kasey using all her heart and soul to rip out the cutting words of Eminem's lyrics.....This reaches deep into your emotions, you get more than one shot to feel it! Powerful performance by Kasey and band.
If you react to any more Kasey Chambers music, "Ain't no little girl" is an absolute must, must, must. I prefer the official video version, but there are several live versions
Eminem didn’t do a “cover of this song”. Not trying to sound mean or condescending, but he wrote this song about his life, while filming a movie about himself. And he put just as much pressure on himself to have a song that embodied his life and the story of the movie, as “Rabbit” did to create a future for himself in Eight Mile.
Still, I’ll admit, this is a cool version that she seems to really feel. I just happen to come from the generation of hearing and being inspired/motivated listening to Eminem’s version, so I lean to liking his more, but can’t deny how good hers is. Does remind me of how Marilyn Manson sang and changed the feel of “Sweet Dreams”, originally by the Eurythmics. It just depends on what sort of mood you’re in.
That is what you call epic and absolutely owning it. I know of her but not much of her music but I do know that this performance is not a one off for her she’s an amazing singer.
Thanks for a great reaction Beth. You can tell the audience are as invested in her performance of this as she is - it is rare to see/hear a live performance like this where the audience is totally silent but it happened here. If not for the music, you could have heard a pin drop!
The audience were told the song was being recorded at the desk as a live take & asked to please keep their "enthusiasm" down to a minimum during the vocals.
I feel like Eminem is such an amazing Lyricist and this is a classic. She took his lyrics and breathed emotion and really brought an angst to it. Absolutely fucking brilliant
omg, maybe the greatest cover of any song ever. The emotion in her voice is everything, just wow wow wow. You're right, it hits the soul. She must have lived the same life as Em. As you mentioned, it is haunting. I love your take on her voice, but it makes sense. The life she has led can be heard in her voice. That's why she must have had quite the life. This is a once in a lifetime performance, phew!!
I've listened to this numerous times and it always brings me to tears. Kasey's emotional interpretation of Eminem's words is stunning. Loved your reaction.

Great to see you react to this, hadn't seen/heard her cover before this. My favourite performance of hers! She's amazing in this.. and I'm wanting to watch it a few more times, was just seeing someone else react to it too. Been following her since she first jumped onto our music scene here in Australia.. and I haven't always liked every song she sings but love her voice... and this hits the mark. That poignant element she brings to it at first, then crashing into the reality of how hard life is to be a performer and in that culture...and giving it her all. Eminem's lyrics are great in it.. she just turned it into something else again. WOW!
So glad to see this reaction from someone I admire (that's you, Beth).. when I first watched her performance, I thought maybe it was just me that it hit so very hard. Oddly, it made me cry for my son.. who is a young father with dreams. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for articulating what is special about Kasey's music: the excruciating pain and beauty that is simultaneously present. I'd encourage you to check out her collab with fellow Aussie Paul Kelly, another artist who is also in the poet/bard genre of musician; not necessarily as a reaction but for more of her range and the mood they create together
IMPRESSIVE!!! I enjoyed that MUCH more than I expected!! (Not saying I expected bad. Just didn't have any expectations at all.) Started off so calm and quite and reserved. Ended with such intensity. Was like all this emotion was being held back for so long until eventually the dam burst and it all came pouring out!!
Been waiting for you to do this. I've watched Kasey's performance of this many times but your reaction to it while still giving an educated opinion of it was brilliant. Thanks.

I love this performance and get goosebumps and emotion and awh. I also loved your reaction, with other songs you show appreciation and lots of comments about techniques etc, here there were long periods where you were just enjoying and feeling the energy. I look for other reactions to this song and often come back to watch this one.
Absolutely adore your research into our Kasey's history. I used to buy fish and chips from Kasey's family shop as a young fella when hunting around Southend, South Australia. She was about 10 years my junior and even then you could tell there was something special about her. The whole of Australia is immensely proud of Kasey and her amazing musical family. That's her dad on the slide guitar. Kasey reached out to the audience and asked them to submit their phone recordings of this performance so this video could be spliced together. Probably my favorite song outside of this is Rattlin' Bones, with (now ex) hubby Shane Nicholson, which was featured in the series Hell On Wheels. One similarity occurs to me. When Trent Reznor saw/heard Johnny Cash's treatment of Hurt, he said "This is no longer my song. It belongs to Johnny." I love Eminem's song, but can't help but believe that Kasey somehow hijacked it. I'd love to know what Eminem thinks of this. I can't count how many times I've watched her video of this song or other reactors. Thanks for reacting.
Kasey Chambers is one of the artists, that I wish would have exploded worldwide, reaction videos like yours and many others on this song might push her to a a higher level where she will be recognized. Her early work to up today showcases her vocal range. The grittiness from typical American bluegrass, blues and country with an Australian note. One of the greatest voices and unfortunately one that has not been heard by others. I wish her the best!
I saw her at a very small club in San Francisco in the early 2000's. She was pregnant and has to stop the show after she collapsed after about 4 or 5 songs. What a great voice!
dude when she holds out that note( this may be the only oppurtunity that I GOOOOOOOOT!). That was NEXT LEVEL! Also the end of it when she ends it just you can tell she left ALL her energy on that stage
Obsessed with this cover, such a well done version. The slow bluegrass build up, draws us in and then she turns it up rocks out at the end. Great performance, I think I heard her dad was also on the slide guitar,.so cool.
Been getting transfixed by Kasey Chambers since “The Captain” …. “Barricades & Brickwalls” (LP) and she does a live version of Lucinda Williams’ “Changed the Locks on My Front Door” which mesmerizes me every time.
Thank you so much for reviewing this performance. Loved how you felt all that emotion. She’s so amazing 🇦🇺 This was performed in the same theatre that you did a review on Daniel Johns from silver chair ❤

Every single time! Every...single....freaking....time this bloody song leaves me in tears! Powerful stuff.
8 mins of true art, so different, but so good! Good thing she closed the concert with it, she gave it all.
Your reaction was nearly as emotional as her performance. Well done!
Hearing covers of Eminem really makes me appreciate the lyrical genius even more
Your reaction to Kasey was just as raw as her performance
So nice to hear your reactions & talk
First heard her on NPR 20+ years ago...always an original voice. Back when she was asking "Am I Not Pretty Enough?"
I probably heard that same broadcast of Prairie Home Companion. I was on the road with my band and stopped into a record shop (remember those?) in Prescott AZ and bought the CD. Been a huge fan ever since.
As a singer/songwriter, I find this incredible inspiring. If you’ve got the passion , it doesn’t matter what instrument you’re playing!
That's why I like your channel so much. From time to time, your subscribers make us discover an incredible talent. 👍👍👍
He allowed her to release it on Spotify, so he clearly approves....but to actually see him give approval, think we'd all like to see that.
I'm not really into country music, but The Captain is amazing, I found it on the Sopranos soundtrack. I need to listen to more Kasey!
WOW! Is all there is to say 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Stunning voice, I'll have to check out her other songs
As an Em fan, it's really interesting to hear the song sung like this, it's truly beautiful & really makes it that much more emotional 💗

Thank you so much for this one Beth, Kasey deserves all the support in the world. She's a legend here in Aus, and has a large catalogue of music to back it up.
The best cover of any song i have EVER heard in my life ! WOW !
I have goosebumps from head to toes. This is stunning.
Yours is the best reaction I’ve seen. Eloquent and emotionally connected response. Love it
I've never heard of a more different interpretation of a song. Crazy good.
Love Casey Chambers. Still remember hearing her sing "Am I Not Pretty Enough" back in the day and needing to go find her stuff.
As you said Beth, FRIGGIN BEAUTIFUL!
I'm a huge fan of Eminem, i had tears when I heard this cover. She is cool.
I think MnM does a fairly good job with his cover of this song
Ikr. It’s kinda Kaseys now I think😊
Kasey has 'Johnny Cash-ed' Eminem's masterpiece. Em and Trent Reznor are now members of an elite club! ❤
You win!
Wow! What a voice and what a performance. Enough said!
I like your comment of the sound of the music changing as if the hardships are trolling thru the generations.
Totally agree
Kasey friggin owned it. If that didn’t hit you then you’ve missed your opportunity !!!
Thanks for a great reaction Beth. You can tell the audience are as invested in her performance of this as she is - it is rare to see/hear a live performance like this where the audience is totally silent but it happened here. If not for the music, you could have heard a pin drop!
Casey got people to send her any footage they had of this concert and that is what is being shown.
The audience were told the song was being recorded at the desk as a live take & asked to please keep their "enthusiasm" down to a minimum during the vocals.
Any cover Kasey gifts us with is full of interpretation. Most people copy songs when they cover. Kasey turns it into something entirely new.
Never been a fan of Kasey but you’ve gotta have respect for that performance.
Great to see such an honest reaction too!!
Same and same.
This is blowing alot of minds, so well done.
Adds another dimension to the song.
Wow what a lovely voice and it’s so different so much feeling in her version as well .
I feel like Eminem is such an amazing Lyricist and this is a classic. She took his lyrics and breathed emotion and really brought an angst to it. Absolutely fucking brilliant
She did what Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix did with Bob Dylan's songs. Gave them a good jolt of energy and melody.
omg, maybe the greatest cover of any song ever.
Unbelievable, the rawness and emotion . No where to hide up there. Immense talent! 😊
I've listened to this numerous times and it always brings me to tears. Kasey's emotional interpretation of Eminem's words is stunning.
Loved your reaction.
I’ve seen a few reactions to this performance, and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed your interpretation. Thanks !!
Exactly my take on this song, the start is an Irish ballad, a lamenting drovers wife back in the 1800s, traditionally Australian.
The man himself needs to see this. Wow what a fukin performance!! That was wild I loved it !!! ♡♡♡♡
He let her put it on Spotify so must've heard it and approved. I'd kill to have seen his first reaction to it though.
@elenawilliams32 💯 ♡

WOW!
Just the best musical performance of ALL TIME.
I cant think of one better.
So glad to see this reaction from someone I admire (that's you, Beth).. when I first watched her performance, I thought maybe it was just me that it hit so very hard.
Oddly, it made me cry for my son.. who is a young father with dreams.
Thanks for sharing.
First time l have ever felt the pain of this song..Em wrote it for some else! She SLAYED THAT SONG.
This is so good 😊 haven’t watched your reaction yet but I know it’s going to blow your mind 😊😊❤❤ I hope This finds it’s way to Eminem .
Hi Beth, I've watched this reaction so many times now, your reaction is so heartfelt and genuine !!
Love watching reactions to Kaseys brilliant cover. How she moves from anguish to angst is unforgettable ❤
IMPRESSIVE!!! I enjoyed that MUCH more than I expected!! (Not saying I expected bad. Just didn't have any expectations at all.)
Started off so calm and quite and reserved. Ended with such intensity. Was like all this emotion was being held back for so long until eventually the dam burst and it all came pouring out!!
Been waiting for you to do this. I've watched Kasey's performance of this many times but your reaction to it while still giving an educated opinion of it was brilliant. Thanks.
Thank you Beth. Your reactions is always interesting and fun. You have a beautiful voice🎶🎶 Keep on singing 🍭🍭✨✨🎼🎼
WOW That was incredible!! It really showcases his writing too
Hey great reaction, Beth. I love hearing your insights on the layers and complexities of the music you react to. I've never heard of Kasey Chambers before but I love this style of music. I'll be checking out more of her music. Thank you!
Thanks Beth, I was hoping you'd get to this one. Please look further into this girl, she has a unique talent and doesn't take crap from anybody. There's a huge list to check out..
trust your subscribers on what to see next.
You reacted exactly how I did, so much emotion, it's a brilliant interpretation of the lyrics
Spine tingling brilliance by our kasey chambers love you girl what a performance so proud of you i love this song but this is next level ❤❤❤
Great reaction to Kasey! Going to see her 17 Feb 2024 and really looking forward to see her do this live.
Thank you for such a great reaction to this wonderful song. ❤️
Thank you for that reaction, first time I had seen this, WOW
The beauty and the pain was perfect
Obsessed with this cover, such a well done version. The slow bluegrass build up, draws us in and then she turns it up rocks out at the end. Great performance, I think I heard her dad was also on the slide guitar,.so cool.
Been getting transfixed by Kasey Chambers since “The Captain” …. “Barricades & Brickwalls” (LP) and she does a live version of Lucinda Williams’ “Changed the Locks on My Front Door” which mesmerizes me every time.
Thank you so much for reviewing this performance. Loved how you felt all that emotion. She’s so amazing 🇦🇺
This was performed in the same theatre that you did a review on Daniel Johns from silver chair ❤
That is a PROPER cover. Incredible.
This is giving me rolling full-body chills. Wow
Hooooooooooooooooooooooo. Just stumbled across this and dear sweet gandalf on a reindeer. That was incredible! I have goosebumps. As an Aussie I am ashamed to have not heard this before!
