The monk ranger multi class works very cool in the other direction too. Getting a bonus action grapple attack is crazy for a hunter ranger with cleave, allowing you to drag two creatures into range of each other and then attack one use horde breaker and the cleave back on your first target. That's basically 2 free attacks every turn. Sure once you get multi attack you can sacrifice one of your attacks to do the same thing but if you've managed to put hunters mark on a target pre combat you can go wild and if you're fighting some high health targets you can throw some bonus action punches and rack up even more damage

Well if hunter is what we are taking I presume we are taking elements for monk, right? Repositioning them with unarmed strikes, being able to change the elental damage type that we find out they are vulnrable to thanks to hunter and getting a flying speed are sure to come in handy.

    • @joshuasmith9061
      @joshuasmith9061 Місяць тому +2

The issue I see is weapons with cleave are strength only, so at most you will have 14 dex and 13 wis. Since you can't wear medium armor and use the bonus action unarmed strike together you will end up with only a 13 armor class, Luckily the hunter doesn't have features that use wisdom for number of features.

I’m also a fan of Sorcerer/Fighter multiclass, I created a build with Echo Knight and divine soul, lots of punches with unarmed fighting and a quickened inflict wounds makes for a nasty combo for erasing your enemies, plus I also plan to use Vortex Warp and Misty Step for battlefield control through teleportation.

    • @woutvanostaden1299

@@elprimo8639Echo knight is always a powerful choice. I have thought about half orc echo knight/any wizard (theurge of the order domain is the best, although then rune knight is very tempting) to get resilient sphere and we can link this to contingency so that if we ever drop to 1hp, we end up in our safety bubble. Due to echo knight our echo can still manifest outside the sphere and attack, while we are safe.
As for sorcerer: I love combining rune knight with clockwork soul, but I do want an order cleric to make it complete. In our effoft to foil the action economy as much as possible. Rune knight keeps us pretty much alive. Especially when we add heavy armor master on top of our b/p/s resistance and being a dwarf with the tough feat. As for the paladin warlock build idea. What about a 6 level dip into celestial warlock to get resistant to radiant damage, but you also can add your charisma modifier to a spell that deals radiant or fire damage. Since Devine Smite has been moved to being a spell rather than a class feat. You would now be able to add radiant soul to that damage. Or if you pick up Green Flame Blade. my favourite is still Bardlock,
2 levels warlock gives you all kinds of great stuff from the best offensive cantrip to both a pact and two invocations allowing for crazy variety.
a third level genie warlock however gives you bottled respite,
this is a niche feature but after swapping to bard starting at level 4 you will obtain a great set of support skills and with a bit more investment soon obtain glyph of warding,
im pretty sure most of you all figured out where im going with this,
glyph of warding allows you to store spells whilst bottled respite gives you access to your own personal UNMOVING little pocket dimension.
not only have you obtained what i like to call, power word super saiyan but you also have one of greatest complimenting multiclasses in the game.
bards weaknesses are really only just damage output and self-sustain,
both of which being extremely fixable with the right warlock pact, invocations and cantrips.

One build I found potential with was a strength hunter ranger build. I call it the minion slayer. If you go hunter and do the hoard breaker and take the weapon mastery in a weapon with the cleave property, you can potentially take 4 attacks at lv 5 at creatures stacking against you. And if you take the great weapon master feat you can get a bonus action attack on a kill, which is a potential 5 attacks against a hoard at lv 5.

Scimitars and Dual Wielder let any class with Extra Attack and even a single weapon mastery attack 4 times at level 5. Not the best damage, but not the worst, either: if DPS were all I cared about, Bladefist would certainly be superior. But I've got Rage resistances, Danger Sense, Reckless Attacks, CON Saves and CON-fueled Unarmored Defense rather than WIS. Goliath gives me all kinds of bennies (on top of being the only human-looking race with Powerful Build), Tavern Brawler gives me Shove, Unarmed rerolls, AND Improvised Weapons, which are almost always +STR damage

I prefer daggers because it’s all monk weapon = martial arts dice anyway. Also throwing darts are finesse and so can use strength too. Kensei monk can get +2 AC and spend a bonus action to apply frenzy + Kensei bonus damage to reckless dart throw. It’s all very fun. Also, Conjure Minor Elementals is busted, and we all know it's busted. It's completely overpowered and makes any other single-target damage strategy completely pointless by comparison. But it comes online at high level only, and really all you have to do to nerf it is to make the upcast 1d8 every 2 extra levels, like other damage aura spells.

The Uber War Cleric is interesting narratively too. Imagine being the last servant of a god whose worshippers had been wiped out. Now that god puts all their blessings on you, their last cleric, in a desperate act to keep you alive. The blessings are so overwhelming you also are blessed with incredible capabilities in every other way. Bonus points if that god is recently ascended and trying to make a name for him/herself.
I do think it would be interesting to add Pointy Hat's Malus idea, a baked in weakness for the character such as fear of the dark or a particular enemy type. In this case, you and your god struggle against whatever wiped out the other worshippers, though I don't know how to translate mechanically since I'm still new to DnD. Anyway, people can steal this concept or riff off it. I'm not really in a position to play it myself right now.

    A few notes:
    - Fighter cleric: takes a little while to get going, because you need two subclasses. But if you go fighter 1 then cleric 3 youll probably be ok unless your table has a lot of combats per SR.
    - Ranger monk: is for sure very good, but HM does require a BA to move, and given how many attacks you get most enemies will die fast. Youll find yourself choosing between moving HM and thise BA attacks most rounds.
    - Bard: More of a tier 3/4 build. And CME should be banned from upcasting until it gets errata.
    - Cleric Sorcerer: yeah i think WotC fucked up emanations. BG3 showed how broken this was and they made it worse due to intra party grappling. I see how sorc works here but tbh I think a straight cleric is busted enough with these rules. With a monk ally it's enough to break the game.
    - Paladin Lock: just a good build. Well rounded too. Not super broken at tables with basic optimisation, but good. Love the new archfey, teleporting never gets old. Musician is just for allies though iirc.

It's worth noting that the Monk can use Shortswords, and the Ranger gets two weapon masteries. Meaning you can use a shortsword and dagger combo with your Ranger/Monk build to get advantage after your first attack, which immediately benefits your offhand dagger attack. And since the Ranger can also get the Two-Weapon Fighting style, you'll even get to add your Dexterity modifier to that dagger attack. And your bonus action is still available for whatever you're doing.

Hexblade isn't dead. Hexblade makes Two-Weapon Fighting as a Warlock possible. Ordinarily, with Pact of the Blade, you can only apply this to one weapon. The Hex Warrior feature allows you to use your Charisma for attack and damage on a different weapon other than your Pact Weapon. If you use Pact of the Blade for your main hand weapon, and Hex Warrior for your off-hand weapon, you can do Dual Wielding with just your CHA for attack and damage.

Managed to make an archfey warlock + druid work REALLY well because of the changes to the new archfey- SUPER spellslot efficient and the wild shape for even MORE mobility makes him REALLY hard to pin down in combat.
I think proper multiclasses like 4+5 style will be a lot more viable with a fair few changes instead of it just be "dip 1 level this, 2 this, and rest in this" characters.

Quick ̶r̶u̶l̶e̶ ̶l̶a̶w̶y̶e̶r̶ correction on 12:00, you wouldn't be readying the "dash" action (which doubles your speed for the enemies turn you take the reaction in) and then move, you would just be readying a movement up to your normal speed. Also, technically readying the dash action blocks you from moving, as RAW states readying as "action or movement". Still, it's a sick build dude!

    • @ericaugust1501
      @ericaugust1501 Місяць тому +2

no, i don't think the dash action blocks movement. the dash action is simply 'gain extra move equal to your movement rate'. thinking about it as 'doubling your speed' is going to lead to errors in understanding what it is. so you should be able to move about. then as an ready action, choose to move about some more when its not your turn. the ready action even says pick 'an action to do, or move about' which is odd giving that 'dash' is an action to move about. but whatever... communication is eternally difficult. BUT can you tell me why he gets 15d8 damage? upcasting the spell even in a 5th lvl slot is still only 5D8? what am i forgetting?

    • @glacieer_
      @glacieer_ Місяць тому

communication and also wording in D&D is always awful, especially in these borderline cases where the game rules are already being exploited. Also thanks for correcting me, I did misuse the word "double".
Still, I personally would rule it as an action+movement: it doesn't specify anywhere that dashing let's you use that speed as part of that action, so it would still be a movement to use that speed. Also considering that you have the option to just ready your movement to move up to your speed (even if you already moved on your turn), moving and readying a dash on any character would let you move at least 90ft per round, 30 (your movement on your turn) + 60 (dash action as a reaction on the enemy's turn), which is insane imho.
To answer your dice count question, i believe the 15d8 spirit guardian damage comes from an assumption he made that you're running into at least 3 enemies while moving so 5d8x3 is 15d8 "total" damage on your turn, he specifies that it can go up, so he's factoring in the number of enemies, if you managed to get 4 inside your spirit guardians it would be 20d8 and so on.

    • @ericaugust1501
      @ericaugust1501 Місяць тому

@@glacieer_ i'm pretty sure that dash is not 60ft. i know its phrased as when you dash you can move double your move, but that takes into account your normal movement. that's the way my group as always interpreted dash, and i've never read anything on forums to counter that interpretation. a Dash is 'gain your movement speed in extra movement, and ofcourse as per vanilla rules, you can use your movement throughout your turn however you choose'. note also that 'moving' is not a like a 'type of action'. its supposed to be your allowable movement throughout your turn useable however you want. action, bonus, reaction all these are kinda like "units of doing things", but movement is just movement that is always possible while doing those other things. and ofcourse 'dash' allows you to increase your movement total. or when readied you can move. you can see the reason they attempted to add in 'or move' under the readied description. they are trying to be clear incase of confusion, but in my opinion, they such made it more confusing.
on the 15d8 thing.... yeahs, that what i kinda thought maybe he meant.... but truly a terrible way to count the damage. facing solo boss is common enough. anyway, he really needs to be better with details.

    • @glacieer_
      @glacieer_ Місяць тому

@@ericaugust1501 dash is not 60ft, but that 60ft is 30ft of movement + 30ft of dash in the enemies turn, in RAW dash the increase is equal to your speed after applying any modifiers (effectively doubling it even though the term is improper). All I'm saying is that his wording is wrong since it would mean moving up to your speed and using the dash action to gain even more speed as a reaction on the enemies turn, which is not possible. It is still possible to only move as a readied action but that's not "dashing".
Also yeah the damage is misleading and should be better explained, but it does make the build sound cooler than saying it still only does 5d8 to each enemy and is OP only with multiple enemies around, but pretty mid against solo, very spread out or even flying enemies as you'd be dealing 10d8 max to an enemy which by level 9 is not groundbreaking, but the idea is pretty cool.

    Battlemaster / War Cleric
"Never Miss" is an exaggeration. Rolling a 1 is still an automatic failure to any attack roll, so each attack has a 5% chance to miss, regardless of how many bonuses you add.
Action Surge attack is just 1 Attack. So 4 with level 5 fighter, action surge + war cleric (still good) at the expense of action, surge, and bonus action.
    It's super solid, still.
    Ranger / Monk
pretty solid. If you want a variant of the death-knives you can instead take Fighter for the mastery, add two-weapon fighting style, and pick up Fey-Touched. Yeah you get 1 fewer Hunter's Mark, by default (up to 3 fewer if you spent all your spell slots), but you get a use of Misty Step in return and 2 uses of Second Wind.
    Fighter / Bard
True Strike is also a good choice of cantrip, and fewer things have Radiant resistance than Fire resistance.
    Sorc / Cleric
    nice.
    Archfey / Paladin
don't forget that you need 15 str if you're going to wear heavy armor.
True Strike is more versatile than Eldritch Blast since it applies to melee or ranged weapon and still uses your Cha AND you can apply those two weapon masteries from Paladin while using it.

A great multiclass dip on almost every is 2 Levels in Warlock, as you can grab 3 Invocations, which can do a lot and don't necessarily need to use your Charisma modifier. Lessons of the First Ones is probably one of the best examples, letting you grab multiple Origin Feats. A level 2 Human can have 5 Origin Feats, they could do something stupid like take Magic Initiate 3 times plus Alert and Lucky. It's ridicules and something you probably don't wanna do, but it's funny! Also 2 Spell Slots that recover on a short rest and Magical Cunning gives you another one for a Long Rest, AND Armor of Agathys, AND if you happen to have high Charisma Eldritch Blast is great but you can get everything else with just a 13 Cha and a 2 level dip anyways.
Just some of the good Invocations include -
    Devil's Sight - Super Darkvision
Lessons of the First Ones - Origin Feats (repeatable)
Mask of Many Faces - Disguise Self
    Misty Visions - Silent Image
Otherworldly Leap - New Jump spell, which basically converts 10ft movement a turn into a 30ft jump for a minute, wait I mean forever because it's an invocation
Eldritch Mind - Warcaster is better but this is just right there for easy Concentration Advantage meaning you might not even need to take Warcaster
(All but Mind and the Pact Boons require 2+ levels in Warlock. A 1 level dip can still be decent but mostly just for Charisma casters.)
Using Xanathars - 2 Levels in Warlock gets you 3 invocations, Pact Boons are now Invocations but an important bit is that Legacy content that needs the Pact Boons don't require them to still be "Pack Boons". So if you use 2 invocations on Gift of the Ever-Living Ones and Pact of the Chain, as long as your Familiar is semi close all healing that is done on you is maxed out, be a tank like Deadpool... at the cost of your/your party healers spell slots. If your healer has Find Familiar and Cure Wounds, both easily possible on any spellcaster thanks to Magic Initiate, they can hide their spider or similar familiar on you and heal you 20+ hit points with just a 1st level spell slot each turn. A Barbarian or Paladin is not dying anytime soon with healing like that.
Using Tashas - Eldritch Adept is a feat that lets any Spellcaster learn 1 invocation that doesn't have any prerequisites and you get to pick the modifier, but it's basically now just the Pact Boons and Eldritch Mind. Pact of the Tome is now an Invocation that gives you any 3 cantrips, so now with just this feat basically anyone can learn Eldritch Blast using Wisdom or Intelligence.
Personally I think Eldritch Adept could be an Origin feat, it's comparable to Magic Initiate and I think Blade giving up some extra spellcasting for a better Shillelagh is fair and so is Chain trading the 2 cantrips for a stronger Familiar, except Tome is a little strong also giving you access to Rituals like normal Find Familiar AND the best cantrips in exchange for a proper 1st level spell. Funny considering Tome is the weakest out of the 3 for a normal Warlock.
Every level you can swap out the invocation, so Eldritch Mind would actually be a good choice until you can grab Warcaster and swap it for a proper Pact. Just somethings to keep in mind before homebrewing it as an Origin Feat. (That's actually a decent story thing, Eldritch Mind is there until something happens/you get an ASI and a mini Pact is formed.)

Well, maybe, if you just stay warlock. But mixed with a sorcerer, bard, or paladin, the strength of the Celestial warlock skyrockets.
With the change to Smite making it a spell, and the Devotions channel divinity being part of an attack, you can add your charisma to attack and damage rolls twice to one attack per turn. Additionally, lay on hands and healing light dice make for some pretty efficient healing. Additionally, with the Graze weapon mastery, even if you somehow miss, you still deal Ability Mod in Damage. Heavy armor and a greatsword nothing more quintessential Paladin and since you need 13 in strength just to multiclass, you will have the strength for some heavy armors and the heavy weapon property.
    The build starts Paladin 1
Takes the fabled warlock dip at 2
Goes back to Paladin until aura of protection. The feat you can take at Paladin 4 can be Fey/shadow touched for additional utility, or Resilient con for a more inpactful concentration check. However, this one won't be as nessisary because the aura of protection adds to concentration checks, and you will have advantage thanks to the eldritch mind invocation.
From there on stay warlock, at level 12, getting the "weak feature" that curves your damage to the moon. Additionally, at warlock 4, cap your charisma for better overall saves and spell save dc/attack rolls.
At warlock 8 (character level 14) Resilient con is a strong choice.

An interesting change when pulling Kensei with the backwards compatibility rules, with the 5.5 Monk base the Kensei can Stunning Strike with a bow. 5e's Stunning Strike required "melee weapon attack", while 5.5's is "hit a creature with a Monk Weapon or and Unarmed Strike", which opens everyone up to doing it on thrown attacks, or in the case of something like Kensei that can get ranged weapons as Monk Weapons

    Love the vids!
    Rant incoming!
What I love about Warlock/Paladin besides the great combos is the ROLEPLAY.
    A god.
    A patron.
    An oath
    A contract.
It's a cool mix, what makes me sad now however.. is I used to dip once into Warlock and go 6 levels of paladin than back to Warlock. (Aura/Extra attack) But I got my warlock subclass at one.
Now if I wanna have both subclasses I gotta be LV 3 in each.
So go 3 paladin than 3 warlock. That's 6 levels before my character knows he's a paladin of vengeance/fiend warlock.
And if I want aura/extra attack I gotta be LV 9. (End of most modules and adventures.)
So while dipping once is fine and strong not having a subclass makes me sad on the roleplay side of things.

Going by the 2014 rules, I have an amazing character for support of my party in the game I’m in . His name is Jack (because he is a Jack Of All Trades).
Variant Human for the extra skill plus free feat (take Prodigy for proficiency AND Expertise in Perception).
Started with Rogue for the highest skill proficiencies, and Expertise in two more skills.
Take Knowledge Cleric for two more skills with Expertise (I took Arcana and Religion), plus Guidance and Resistance to boost saves and skill checks for myself and the party, and another cantrip of choice (I chose Light because of not having Darkvision racially).
Take 1 level of Ranger for another skill proficiency and the bonuses that give advantage on tracking, etc.
The we take Bard for another skill and getting Bardic Inspiration to give a bigger boost to party skill checks.
Then up to 3rd level for Lore Bard for 3 more skills and expertise in two skills, and Cutting Words as a reaction to debuff enemies (and don’t forget to take Silvery Barbs to help your party and penalize your enemies, while providing advantage to a party member or yourself).
Back to rogue for Mastermind at lvl 3 and the 30ft Help action as BA, then up to Rogue 6 for Expertise in 2 more skills.
Finally, Return to Bard for the rest of your levels (until 10 Bard at least) to have more spell slots for Silvery Barbs, more uses of Bardic Inspiration, and 2 more Expertise at lvl 10.
Last two levels (19 and 20) should go to card for spell slots but could go Warlock if you want free spells with invocations (like Detect Magic, Silent Image, Disguise Self, Alter Self, Jump, Levitate, Speak With Animals, Invisibility, Arcane Eye, Speak With Dead), or even take Devil’s Sight to get greater darkvision and Eyes Of The Runekeeper to read all writing if your party could use a translator. Or even take Eldritch Mind to help your concentration checks if you took Bless with your cleric spells.
By level 18, you have 15 out of 18 skills available in the game and 12 of those have Expertise. You can buff your skill checks with Guidance, provide Inspiration and Guidance to the party for theirs, Help at 30ft, and have other forms of support via spells like Silvery Barbs and other utility spells (like Bless/Bane if you took those).
It’s one of my favorite characters I’ve ever made. He isn’t a powerhouse in combat, but between his skills and abilities, and some good roleplaying, he’s definitely been the MVP of a lot of different situations in our game and I’ve had a blast playing him! 😁🔥💯

OMG, I just noticed that being equipper with 2 daggers lets you do 2 extra attacks if you have mastery. It goes like this: you attack with the main hand. Light let's you do an extra attack with the offhand as a BA. But offhand has Nick, so the extra attack is part of the attack action, which enables Light on the Offhand, letting you do an extra attack as a bonus with the main hand. Technically you could still use Nick again and keep the BA (and stop there, Nick only works once x weapon), eventually getting a THIRD extra attck, but I would rule out even the second Nick use...
