    Gotta give props to this guy for trying to make this review interesting. Kia Rio is meant to be a very value-oriented car. There is nothing "Premium" or "Aggressive" about it at all - but it's not supposed to be. It's a subcompact economy car, and it will get you to where you need to go, and is very reliable. With that said, you are hard pressed to find ANYTHING for under $20K new these days.

      Same. I have the 2013 Kia Rio LX &I love it, but it is getting on in years (100K+ miles). So once it becomes too much upkeep &I have enough for a good down payment, that’s when I’ll upgrade to another Kia Rio hatchback. 🥰💕 I love my car so much though, so it’ll be a long time before I have the heat to give her up. Lol

    For anyone wanting this model, do yourself a huge favor. Spend the extra for the S trim. It might seem minor, but once you're used to having a center console/arm-rest; you're not going to want to be without it. And, thanks to the KIA Boys, you're definitely going to want the tech. package. If for nothing else than the Push-Button Starter. That way, no one can steal your Rio with just a USB cable.
    If this sounds a bit too pricey, keep in mind that (except for its twin from Hyundai) the Rio's competitors all use that miserable CVT Jatco automatic transmission option. Nissan Versa, Mitsubishi Mirage, and even the Chevy Spark. Basically, it's a matter of when (not if) that trans. breaks down on you. No one re-builds them. Only solution is to get a brand new from the dealer put in. Literally the 2nd most expensive part in your car is that transmission. Now all of a sudden, you're paying double for those competitors. Thankfully the Rio has a traditional 6-speed automatic. Ironically, the KIA Rio and its Hyundai Accent twin are _still_ your best bet for cheap, reliable, transportation in America if you want a new car.

    • @ADiddy88
      @ADiddy88 Рік тому +3

      Are you aware that this Rio has a CVT (Kia calls it IVT)? They switched away from the 6 speed auto a few years back. Those shifts you hear in the video are fake gears.

    • @irongoose3865
      @irongoose3865 Рік тому

      @@ADiddy88 You are correct! Plus there is no manual option either.
      Best thing to do is buy one from a dealership that offers a lifetime warranty on the powertrain. Not all dealerships do this and the ones that do are doing it through insurance companies so you didn't have to worry about your dealership and warranty going out of business. You can take your car anywhere to have it fixed.

      not only that, but I think the Tech package includes Kia Connect to track you car. Not sure if stanard S trim includes that, but def the Tech Package! Push start + Kia Connect alone makes it worth it + you get other goodies. Should def help resale value down the road!

      Do yourself a favor and don't wait the factory oil change interval of 8000 miles before changing your oil. Do it every 3000 miles regardless of what type of oil you are using. I have used conventional oil all my life and respectively taken two vehicles over 200,000 miles and my current vehicle over a 140,000 miles. The last two cars haven't and don't burn any oil. My first car did from the moment I bought it, not my fault, it was a used car with 59,000 miles on it. The other two I owned from new and for 13 and 14 years each. Take it from someone with many years of experience, change that oil every 3000 miles!

    Adding my 10 cents here. I own a 2nd gen Rio LX, 2012 with 6 speed automatic and 138HP engine and 132 torque. It has only 41,00 miles. Can't let go of this little marvel. Only one major repair: front brakes. So I guess a 2022 Rio has better engineering then go for it. It's the first nearly problem free car I owned. A little hard on gas when driving in the city but that's about it. As for the ride, road noise are present but handling is superb. I'll go for Kia for my next car when the crisis is over.

    I had a 2022 Kia Rio S and traded it in because I was interested in buying a Kia Sportage. Long story short, I ended up with a Mitaubishi Mirage as a daily driver & I definitely regret the decisions that led me to this point. I'll definitely be buying another new Rio in a couple years.
    My S didn't have the technology package included, so was slightly different than this, but was an amazing car nonetheless

      I also plan on getting a Rio S w/o tech package. Having rear discs breaks are an extra expensive for me & I plan on doing rideshare with the car part-time. Keyless entry is cool to have, but I'm coming from an 05 civic so it's not a dead heart for me to have a physical key & ignition.

    I decided to go for mileage and lower monthly payment so traded in my 2019 Sportage LX on a 2022 Rio Hatchback with tech package. As much as I loved the Sportage, this Rio in hatchback version WITH tech package is just right for a single person or couple. PLENTY of room in both driving compartment and in the back, especially with seats down. Mileage thus far is 44+ mpg overall- and that's a pretty good mix of city/highway. Acceleration is every bit as good as the Sportage and it's a smooth ride. I wouldn't buy it without the tech pkg which is-disc brakes all around, nice alloy wheels, LED headlights, pushbutton start, automated climate control, and some VERY nice safety features including FCA, LKA, LFA, LDW, ROA, DAW, HBA. I'm not under the delusion that it's any sort of luxury car but it's great if you need a modern, basic, reliable car that's not bad at all to drive.

      Are you still happy with it? I'm considering one, my fiesta was totalled and I loved it. I average around 140 miles a day so mpg really matters. I was getting 39mpg in the fiesta. Only thing I didn't like was if you had the AC on the engine lost a lot of power

    • @craigramsay53
      @craigramsay53 Рік тому +3

      @@Rexpbass I am still getting really good mileage- about 43 city/highway combined, keeping in mind it's just me in the car about 90% of the time. I've had road trips to Montréal, Toronto, and Michigan and it travels VERY well for such a small car. I didn't use the AC that much but found little difference in power with it on. My only "negative" is that is is very low to the ground and you really can't see much "down the road" if you have a vehicle in front of you. I'd buy it again but, as I mentioned before, the tech pkg is an absolute must and I am glad I did go for it.

    TAKE IT OUT ON THE HIGHWAY! 😉😧I-275, better yet, I-75, 301. Get it up to highway speeds 65-75mph. The 2021 KIA RIO S had a handling issue during highway speeds. Anyone have the same issue with the 2022 model? Wind gust would push vehicle around. Reports state they had to have have a firm grip on the steering wheel. Semi passes by you will feel it. I drove one and you really had to be mindful on the highway. One good wind gust could push you over to the neighboring lane.
    Good for city driving, excellent turning radius, not so much for highway driving though. Has anyone had a similar experience? The horn is weak too. Tall people, you may want to reconsider. 6 ' or taller. I'm 5'4 so it good for me. I've had people over 6 foot in this model car and they look uncomfortable sitting in back/passenger seat. Just my take on it. Buyer beware. 😉

    This model top trim Rio S is more comparable with the top trim Mirage SE vs the base ES Mirage you reviewed l. The top trim Mirage SE comes in a great deal cheaper then this Rio S with Tech Package. The top trim Mirage SE has LED headlights, LED tail lights (Rio has halogen tail lights), fog lights (Rio has no fog lights available), 15 inch alloy wheels, led turn signals in mirrors, auto high beams, forward collision with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, heated seats (cannot get heated seats on any new Rio in USA). So when you compare the top trim Rio S with tech package and Mirage SE top trim these are very comparable with a few features give or take each way but the Mirage comes in over $1,000.00 cheaper fully equipped. Now if you go with the top trim Mirage G4 SE sedan it is basically the same price as this Rio S with tech package. Mirage gets better MPG and beats its listed MPG numbers but has less power than the Rio. If you want a sedan the Mirage G4 sedan has a much larger rear seat than the Rio sedan or Rio hatch. The Mirage hatch and Rio sedan or Rio hatch the rear seats will be very similar in size looking at numbers. Both are great cars. I have owned 3 Mirages a 2015, 2017, 2021 and I have owned 1 Rio a 2002, I liked them all but I really just like the Mirages for the features, mpg, reliability, cheap maintenance, simple and easy to work on if you want to on your own. Both have the same long warranties so you cant go wrong with the Rio or Mirage its just more in what you prefer. I would still choose a Mirage SE top trim over a Nissan Versa SR top trim but it is close 2nd for me and I would take the Versa SR over the Rio S any day. The new Nissan Versas are extremely well equipped, look great and have many updates for 2023 and are an amazing value. Only downside is they have a much shorter warranty all the way around than the Kia Rio or Mitsubishi Mirage. If it were me I would drive the Mitsubishi Mirage and Mirage G4, Kia Rio, Nissan Versa, Chevy Spark (cancelled after 2022), Hyundai Accent (cancelled after 2022) and see what car fits you best for your needs as they are all good cars when you get down to it but each one has its differences for different peoples likes and needs.

      they robbed you bro. New one goes for 20600, LOL. Then you get 60k miles powertrain warranty, not 100k! BRING THAT SHIT BACK OR SELL IT if you cant get 15-16k back then just run it & baby it. Oil changes every 4k miles, dont do the 7k miles otherwise you'll kick yourself later on. Make sure to do everything by the books & dont need go to dealership for everything. If you can save $40-50 on oil change @ trused mechanic then go ahead. I'd do anything else at dealership with transmission flush. Anything else I'd let mechanic do like brakes, tune-up, etc. Keep receipts for records cause warranty would want to know if you did oil changes on time since most mechanics dont log that unless it's like those quick lube spots.

    It seems like a very nice entry-level car, but I'm so perplexed by the packaging of this car. They offer a choice of black or gray upholstery, yet the gray is only available with black or gray exterior paint. Why not the rest of the paint colors? It coordinates with them all. In the U.S. the Rio is only offered in 1 trim level, the "S". That's also very unusual. Most cars are offered with at least 3 trim levels. If you want any options on the Rio, you're forced to buy them all in the optional tech package for $1,800, which is a big ask for a cheap entry-level car. When they introduced the redesigned Rio in 2018, it was offered with multiple trim levels and features that aren't even offered now, such as leather upholstery. I wonder why they've dumbed it down.

    Hands down best car in the world. I absolutely like everything about this car EXCEPT,
    it just can't seem to pull itself up the hills. The car needs to be in Sports mode to climb uphill or while merging onto freeways. Wish they had the Sports mode button somewhere in the steering wheel area, and not down near the gear shifter area..
    finding the Sports mode button is so difficult, nearly impossible, while driving.
    I need to look down to find it which is so not safe while trying to speed up... And logic dictates people will most likely use Sports mode while trying to speed up.. so kinda makes no sense to put the Sports mode button in such a difficult to locate (while driving) place.
    Kia if you are reading this, please make the Sports mode button bigger or put in near the steering wheels area.

    The top trim SE Mirage comes with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, auto HVAC, push button start, proximity key, a much nicer Alpine touchscreen, rain sensing wipers, LED front/back lights, auto dimming rear view mirror, rocker Fosgate speakers, collision mitigation, and pedestrian detection. All this and it's still $3k cheaper than the Rio.
    The Rio's mpg can't touch the Mirage's either. The Mirage can easily net 50 mph with proper hyper milling techniques, the Rio, not so much.

That being said I have a 2010 Kia Soul, 1st gen and would never buy a new Soul. The prices have soared and they have issues. I have never had issues with mine. I've looked at both vehicles and I have to say the build quality on both vehicles is good but The Kia's is impressive! Two of the Nissan dealerships I've been to offered lifetime warranties on the powertrains but The Nissan dealerships won't order a car for you and won't deal either.
      I just looked my first Rio today, it was a sedan so I wasn't interested but just for the sake of getting a feel for the vehicle I was impressed with it's build quality more so then The Versa.
      As for purchase I will soon find out if Kia dealerships are stealerships or not.
      The Nissan dealerships are very disappointing at this point and I'm about to give up on The Versa do to the insane markups and unwillingness to deal from Nissan dealerships.
      I think all it will take is one good test drive in The Rio hatchback to write off any Nissans.
