Metallica was my first favorite band. Still my goats but I don’t listen to them much these days. Just started revisiting all there stuff and 4:16 disposable hero’s has always been one of my all time favorite. James and Lars we genuine musical genius’s with all they crafted these songs together. So unique.

I wonder... Is it hard to create a cool simple riff nowadays? Has pretty much everything been done already?

That's a great question you know. I think with simple riffs, like power chord combos, there is more and more chance you will create something similar to someone else. I mean there is a video somewhere where someone runs through like 3 basic chords and plays 20 different hit songs that use those 3 chords as a foundation. But when you add more variables, like guitar tone, different tempos and FX, you can make things sound more unique. We will always have uniqueness when writing more technical riffs like the one in And Justice For All. But yeah more and more metal is coming out, so you never know if you are writing a riff that sounds similar or exactly like someone elses haha

Disposable Heroes might be my favorite Metallica song of all time. Damage, Inc. is another great riff machine from MOP.
