- I spent $200 on the iPhone 1 from ebay and spent one whole week using ONLY the iPhone 1 from 2007 also known as iPhone 1st generation / iPhone 2G ! I used it for 1 week straight to find out if the first ever iphone still works in 2021 and if it is possible to use an old iphone as an everyday smart phone or if it is too old to work you. This was not easy... wont believe what happened...

They don't work on iPhoneOS 3 probably since the versions are very old

What’s crazy is I remember when this first came out and I wanted one so so bad… it was ahead of its time at the time but it’s amazing what phones can do now; even the iPhone SE which is their cheapest one is impressive compared to this now ❤ I appreciate all the advancements and it just makes me love my iPhone SE 2022 even more 🎉
Even though the original iPhone was released in 2007, those times were still old so of course they weren't all that advanced including the iPhone 3G in 2008 and iPhone 3GS in 2009, which I believe ever since the iPhone 4 released around mid 2010 was when the whole iPhone series truly began to be futuristic.

I have the same experience, well kind of hahaha. I broke my iPhone 11 PM screen and i can't use it so I am using iPhone 5s as my temporary phone for over a week now and I must say it holds up pretty well. I can use my apple music, Instagram, facebook and tiktok but boy it lags so well 😂 but kinda amazing since it is a 2012 phone and most of the apps are compatible with 2023 version of it! mindblowing!
This really makes me appreciate how far we've come in technology. Similar to how George went from no comments to now

Before Verizon got the iPhone 4 I bought a used iPhone 3G and unlocked it for use on T-Mobile. Unfortunately at the time almost all 3G service was on 1700MHz and the 3G only supported 2100/1900/850 but some areas worked with 3G on 1900MHz. It was fun but slow. Still have that phone! Doesn’t really work but it’s nostalgic! Over a decade later I’m typing this on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Oh the nostalgia

I remember my sister was manager at the AT&T store and the day before the launch of the 2007 iPhone there was a line around the building and people waiting all night for the store to open.
I've had my original I phone. Since 2007. And it is perfectly fine. Works like it did when I first bought it. And I've used it every day. The battery is shot so I got a other battery and had a computer shop put it in.

Back in the day, most people got an iPod touch instead of an iPhone, so
the best entertainment was looking at your pictures on your camera roll or playing offline games while out on public transport. Your phone was always turned off and in your school bag to use for phone calls or texting in case of emergencies. After about 4-5 years it started to become more common to get an iPhone
I actually still look at my pictures a lot and it is really entertaining!

I had an iPhone 3G when I was super young that I used as an iPod. I remember you couldn't even take a selfie or video 😆. I would take a selfie by turning the phone towards me! My favorite phone has been the 8+ that lasted me a good few years. I now have an iPhone 11.

i recently have been looking at older models of phones as i feel my iphone takes up alot of my day and wanted to go simpler. and then George uploaded this and now i'm shook ! also great to see the comments are back...
Your best bet is to get a cheaper phone not an older one, especially one this old. One of the most fundamental reasons is that these older phones are 2G (like the original iPhone was, it didn’t get 3G capabilities until the iPhone 3G) Also many carriers are decommissioning their 2G networks. Downloading anything will be painfully slow. Another reason is the WiFi in the iPhone is only 802.11b/g (now known as WiFi 3) the most current version is WiFi 6. You will max out at about 18 mb per second (vs 1,000 mb (gig speed) for the most current WiFi 6 version) And another huge reason, is that it simply doesn’t have enough RAM to run most apps/websites. It has 128 mb, and the newest iPhone 12 Pro has 6,000 mb (6 gigs) of RAM. There are a bunch of other reasons, but these reasons are probably the biggest apart from the App Store not working, and it not having a front facing camera or a flash
Try using a kai os phone it will give you some apps that you are use to at the same time being as basic as you can get and still have full service

One of my first mobile phones was a Nokia 5210.
No Internet, texting without a keyboard, no touchscreen ... I could go on.
