- I lived in the 2000s for 1 whole week! I swapped out all my modern age 2024 technology for the 20 year old 2000s version. i tried a whole range of bizarre vintage tech From Apples imac G4 to the first ever iphone. All to try and answer the question of can you use old technology still in modern day? Or have the last 20 years developed so fast that the old technology is now useless?

That's the problem with modern technology - it gets obsoleted so quickly. Yet, a bicycle that worked in 1950, will work just as well today.
Its not a problem, its a good thing that technology progresses quickly, otherwise we still would be sitting there with old slow PCs that are very inconvenient to use.
@@Saroku1000My criticism was not that technology "advances quickly". It is that it is "obsoleted" quickly. It's not the same thing. More choice is good.
@@chansetwolike adding a subscription store just to use a security camera and after a year the company goes under and the subscription store is no more so the security camera is just paper weight now.

my $299 MSRP camcorder from 2014 doesn't even look as good as that $1250 one from 2006 he used. it's 1080p but it's got noise everywhere. two years after iphone 5s came out and it looks the same as that
in South Africa, whoever brought more than 20 rand to school one day was the richest in the entire class back in the 2000s😂
Might have to get a 2000s mac pro for a couple hundred dollars that retailed for around 10k usd to import your 1k video in under an hour. Yep, financial keeping existed then too😂-2k YA #rubyfreeman
Honestly this when the Days where much better. Life was more chill. Now there’s so much and too much social media , it’s just changed life completely and I think in a bad way. Wish we go back to the early 2000s 😭

one idea i cant wrap my brain around is people saying "hOw dUiD pEoPlE lIVe wIt oUt cOnStaNt cOnEctIon//????" i frequently go a week or so with out my phone, laptop, PC etc for a reset. People lived without constant entertainment, because they had too, they found ways to entertain themselves, or, they were just bored for a while. Trust me when i say this, go without your phone, PC laptop, and most modern devices for a week, or a month. It will change your life.
I mostly have retro devices the only modern stuff I have is a PS4,iPhone 8,Chromebook but I mostly use my old technology
I only have an iPhone 6 and a windows 7 😞
I have kinda an old phone collection. I have a few flip phones, an iPhone 4, and an iPhone 5.

@@asnovasdodia They usually use high end products from mid to late decade which is actually not accurate. Also, 2001 and 2009 completely feel different, so if you want to live in early 2000s, you should limit your gadget by using only from 1999-2003.
First iPhone should be paired with Playstation 3, not with Playstation 2.

You've could used:
Windows 7 laptop (2009)
PS3 (2006)
Why not a Pocket PC with Bluetooth and builtin Wifi capabilities (or even with a Wifi CF card). They're still pretty usable, and overall modular.
If only u had a windows xp computer instead you would just plugin ethernet and download supermium browser. Old Mac os is tricky to get working.
That or he could install an older distro of Linux and just about anything with 2GB of ram would work ok and have (mostly) modern software support AND secuirty features. Though, all of that is probably more for us older school tech guys

@@PricklyPineapplesProductions If you're an average user you haven't learned much on MAC/Windows that you couldn't learn on linux in a few days of useage.
What do you do if you run into a problem you don't know how to solve on linux? Same thing you do on literally every other device you're having a problem with. You google it.
Or if you REALLY don't use tech you bring it so someone who can help you with it.
It's not that different on the user level besides what software is available.
@@Gatrehs look, I said it once, I'll say it again. I am tired of hearing about linux. I gave it a try, I tried peppermint, I tried antix, I tried mint, and some other I can't think of the name. I notice no performace benefit nor did I really like it. So reguardless, linux is NOT for everyone. There are plaenty who use windows 7 and xp like Jordan U and walter Knox on youtube, even logging into bank accounts on xp and 7 with no fear of something happening. What do you know, they have not been hacked. Theoretically there could be a higher chance of somehting happening but it is not common. My main machine runs purely XP no dualboot or anything, and that is fine.

early 2000's was the best for technology, you couldnt always sit on your computer, or games, you were able to balance reality and virtual reality without trouble, now its either one or the other.. its harder to get off from technology, and all that. so early 2000's was best for that lol. and the fashion was actually nice, and toleratable unlike now.
I was born in 2005 and yet I still grew up with 2000's technology. I still use most of it to this day.

I still play PS2 games on my Windows 10 PC! There’s free software and hundreds of free games that makes it really easy

Back then, social media didn’t really exist yet so we all spoke on MSN. It was really basic, but anyone who was anyone would jump on there after school and chat with their friends. I reckon you pretty much nailed it with the rest of the tech though.

I watch this video and it just brings back memories. I could easily spend a whole day playing simpsons hit and run. I didn’t have a phone or Facebook. I played pc games or if I wanted to go to my friends house we would go after school and their mum would contact my mum.

The quality between the present day camera compared to the 2000s camera is barely noticeable so I personally wouldn’t say it’s that low quality. That being said though, I would like a video where you talk about you experience with this tech of yesteryear in depth.
The reason why you wouldn't be able to join your network because the IMAC G4 is technically not used to the network that uses newer internet protocol settings you need to change the internet protocol settings to the older protocol on your new internet not hard to do you just need to connect to your router either ethernet or you can manually do it with your router settings
Plus, Windows 7 would have fixed all his troubles anyway.

For Internet Browsing on iMac G4 i think you can use something like Supermium Browser or TenForFox, Supermium is a Port of Recent Chrome Version for older OS's AMD TenForFox is the same but a Firefox port
I wish i could experience all of this again for the first time. Nostalgia is hell of a drug.
