The classic analog tone of the ARP Odyssey is hard to beat. Korg have really nailed it with their re-issue of the original ARP Odyssey. I ended up going for the white-face MK1 version - what's your favourite?
Great snarl on that bass swell. I got a great deal on my MK II version. I can psyche myself out and imagine I'm playing an original when I set the filter to the Rev 2, almost ;) LOL!
Agreed! I really like to hear your playing with 2 of my favorite synths; the Sub 37 and Arp Odessey. I was happy enough to secure the exact same white face MK1 version, bought from California (!) to Norway. It’s amazing that a 50 year old design could still be so relevant. The analog tone & history is unbeatable. The dark tone of the Sub is addictive as well
I am glad you are showing off the ARP's abilities, and distinctive sound. Things like this galvanize the legacy and preserve it as a living, breathing machine, and not a forgotten relic.
Jeffrey Lafleur Thanks for the comment Jeffrey, it's certainly an inspiring machine, today more than ever. I look forward to exploring the depths of what it's capable of.
I can say I am probably responsible for about fifty or so of the views on this tune. All I can say is Bravo! This song is pure emotion in my humble opinion. Thank you for writing it. It and your other music inspire me to continue and persevere with my playing. You actually are responsible for me purchasing my own Arp (by Korg) which was a decision I won't ever regret. Keep up the great music. I always look forward to your new material.
+Richard Farabaugh Thank you Richard :) Glad you enjoyed the piece and are liking your Odyssey :) I wrote this on a cold rainy day in winter in Sydney so it just seemed to flow at the time.
Truly an amazing synth so damn versatile, so analog sound...Well done Korg and well done to this guy for his great demo of the synth. I got mine a cpl of weeks ago and cant stop playing it.
I keep watching this video. I am trying to decide whether to buy this great sounding synth. I know that your talent isn't included, but I might just buy it anyway. You show how capable this synth really is and why it was a classic worth re-making. Great demo!
hello mike,i am looking around for this type of thing, and I must say I'm impressed with your use of the sounds to create this, for me it needs more study, and well you may just of sold another ARP Odyssey for korg
I did already like this synth from playing with it in the shop but they way you make the instrument express sound has me sold on getti g one after I get the Moog Sub37. Thanks for the inspiration
Que máquina fantástica é uma Jam session poderosa!!! E tenho uma pergunta. Eu estou a pensar comprar uma arp odissey, eu só tenho uma Groove box, será que dá para ligar a arp odissey à groovebox?
The ARP has MIDI in/out, so providing your groovebox has MIDI, you could use it to trigger notes on the ARP. Be aware the ARP doesn't have a sequencer though and the sliders don't respond to MIDI. Cheers!
Hey Mike, awesome performance as always! I've been curious how do you find the slim keys, are they comfortable enough? I have an eye on Minilogue XD, but the size of these keys are kinda putting me away..
Hey Kalin - they're decent for minikeys. I obviously prefer full size keys, but these are manageable. I'm not sure how I'd go with using them in a polyphonic context though.
Mike this is awesome! Love the melodies. I am interested in looking into the Korg ARP Odyssey and I usually produce/record in Logic Pro X. It appears you can record directly into Logic Pro X using the ARP Odyssey. My question is how did you do this? Just through a USB? Thanks alot for your help and keep up the awesome work :D
+Derek Leppek Hi Derek, you can't record audio over USB into Logic, you have to go out of th standard 1/4 inch outs. USB on the Odyssey is used for MIDI only.
Amazing. Just to let you know I watched a lot of KARP videos and yours put me over the edge on my decision to get one. Do you have a SoundCloud or something?
Isham Solaris Thanks Isham. Not sure how it would sound on the Sub37 - I'm sure I could achieve something similar, but they both have their own distinctive flavours. Both great :)
+pascal Boyer Thanks Pascal. It's a good synth to learn on as every control has a dedicated slider/switch - so you can see everything in front of you. That being said, make sure you know its limitations (no patch memory/only 2 notes at a time etc)
Dude this really most likely is my all time favorite all synth pieces. Definitely none of my top five favorite musical pieces period. This tune is just full of serious emotion sometimes it blows my mind. Definitely a masterpiece!

You just sold me on this machine. Thanks for the amazing split screen video.
+Darran Nugent Thanks Darran :)
I'm so torn on what new synth to buy, but after watching this I'm pretty much sold on the ARP Odyssey.
+JonGenius1 Thanks Jon - Let Korg know ;)

@@MikePensini muito obrigado pelo conselho! Tudo de bom para ti👍
I can see your heating money went on the ARP! lol
Sometime, restricting yourself to one instrument, gets some creative results, nice work!
+LFOVCF This is Australia mate, no heating ;)
Mike Pensini So what's with the gloves?
Ordering a Behringer Odyssey soon. Wonderful track and inspirational
ARP Odyssey is an amazing instrument.
@@MikePensini just placed my order today for the Behringer version. Can’t wait to get it set up
bang! this is dope!
+Brian Holloway Thanks Brian!
Dope!
This makes me want an ARP.
Tight timing! Sweet :-)
Cheers!
Beautiful. :-)
+Bogdan Oancea Thank you!
Subscribed!
Thanks!
is there any benefit to wearing gloves? Keep your fingers extra warm? You play in extremely cold climates?
Was a very cold winter day when I recorded this, so yes, keeping the fingers warm :)
AWESOME!
Thank you Jonathan
WoW!
I want to buy an fx pedal for my Arp. an analog delay or analog reverb. I can only afford one. What would you pick? :)
Hey Mike, awesome performance as always! I've been curious how do you find the slim keys, are they comfortable enough? I have an eye on Minilogue XD, but the size of these keys are kinda putting me away..

I wonder if his hands are cold?

You got a new sup
Cheers!
Amazing. Just to let you know I watched a lot of KARP videos and yours put me over the edge on my decision to get one. Do you have a SoundCloud or something?
+SIMPLETHINGS Thanks man, glad to hear. You'll enjoy it. Yep, I have a SoundCloud. Google my name and SoundCloud and it should pop up.
My wife has gloves like these. Hers are for RSI. Or do you just have cold hands?
It was a freezing cold day when I filmed this, so cold hands in this case. Sorry to hear about your wife's RSI.
Dope
Cheers
Yes!!! :-)
which effect on 01:35 ? (sorry im new with odyssey :D)
and great work by the way..
Very nice composition as usual, wondering how the same one would sound with your sub37 ?
Isham Solaris Thanks Isham. Not sure how it would sound on the Sub37 - I'm sure I could achieve something similar, but they both have their own distinctive flavours. Both great :)
awesome stuff
do you think a newbie can handle this synth ?
+pascal Boyer Thanks Pascal. It's a good synth to learn on as every control has a dedicated slider/switch - so you can see everything in front of you. That being said, make sure you know its limitations (no patch memory/only 2 notes at a time etc)
Wow. Beauty ain’t perfection, but this may be both.
Thanks Tomb Land!
Tasty.
+Huegel :)
Fingerless gloves? Shouldn't you be playing under umbrellas?
Love the White Noise Lightening and Thunder..
Haha!
Dude this really most likely is my all time favorite all synth pieces. Definitely none of my top five favorite musical pieces period. This tune is just full of serious emotion sometimes it blows my mind. Definitely a masterpiece!
Oops "Definitely one of my"
Thanks Richard!!!! :)
1:10 -- Dubstep Wobbles?
Wowowowowowowowowowowowow
this could easily be a hit song with the right topline
By "the right topline", do you mean some kind of inane rap on top, which would completely detract from the music?! If so, yeah; you're right!
The 'KGB' would never let it chart. Then, the 'Populace Gestapo' would blab about how lyrics detract from the music. Just enjoy it for what it is.
wow do y'all actually believe there are thought police for music? which is a subjective art?
Justin Clitheroe honestly, I was just making fun of the situation.
do your gloves match your dress?
+Chris Nova777 Unfortunately not Chris. It was a lovely little floral number, however, due to the magic of video editing, it all worked out fine.
hahah ;) cheers man lol
his hands are cold.
Yep
