Can they just be honest and say: “Our doc fee, I’m sorry, extra dealer profit on top of the car purchase, is an extra 999 to line our pockets.”
"That's not normally normal." lmao.
Her statement alone about the interest rate is good enough to revoke that dealership's license lmao
bait n switch for real..
She just didn't explain well that the interest rates vary based upon what YOU qualify for.
The customer wants to pay nothing, the dealer wants you to pay everything. I’m not sure why anyone is surprised here.
"We don't want price transparency because we are a great business"
LOL Truth!
Classic bait and switch 😂
It's literally on the website, they explained they don't want you taking a "written deal" to another place?
@workoutwithrob1700 do you not see how terrible that sounds? Why is it perfectly acceptable in all other aspects when buying something, to look around for the best price besides car shopping?
@Nineonesix916 you missed the point, the customer can just show the other dealership the website, since EVERYTHING is there lol.
Why then would someone waste their time to write up the EXACT thing that's on the website that EVERYONE can see, especially when that person knows you aren't going buy from them? Why do work for exactly nothing when the customer already has all the info they want?
That 999 doc fee is outrageous. I’d be deducting most of that from the “Discount”
Gets worse in FL
Ya that's a whopper.
What is a normal doc fee?
@@jvolstadDepends on the state. Anything north of $100 is too much. You’re basically paying for the convenience of them doing the paperwork for title and license and such.
Yea i ran into some doc fees that runs up too around $2k in Florida
The MSRP is $31,000. Our price is $27,000. So you're already saving $12,000. Huh?
Glad to see it's not just me that thought that. That kind of thing gets me wanting to WALK AWAY from salespeople if it's in person.
And he didn't immediately respond to that?
“We don’t want you to shop around” haha. That’s exactly what you do 😂 I don’t think she realizes who she’s talking to
Tell me your not a transparent dealer without telling me you're not a transparent dealer
Everything is on their website? That's where Tomi got all his info lol
I love to hear the calls like this. This is real world conversations with dealerships! This is a great video, Tomi breaks down all the red flags. I know most of us have spoken with dealerships that say, we can't put it in writing! Where is the rest of the video, it cut off on red flag #2!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Bought my 24 camry LE back in 11/23 total sticker was around 31k. I got it for 26k plus tax and license. No nonsense deal.
2:20 so they break the law. very good to hear
You asked like three times to have it in writing and every time they dodged the question with excuses. Don't buy from that dealership, they are baiting and switching folks.
That's true... If you want all the rebates and incentives, you don't get the special rate... You can't combine both... Is either the rebates or pay a higher price (less discount) with the special rate... Just do the math and see with what option you save more money along the financing term. And let's be realistic... who finance at 36 months these days, your monthly payment will be really high for a $26K vehicle. I rather to have 5.9% @ 72 months... Most the people will trade in the vehicle in two or three years anyway.
I purchased cars professionally for 20 years for a fleet company. U either get the price discounts or the special financing. U don’t get both or it’s called double dipping. The stealership was being upfront abt that. There are no red flags here except the excessive doc fee and that they don’t want to put anything in writing. But that’s because they want u at the dealership to close the deal.
You can absolutely get both. But the discount he is offering they don't honor. Point blank and period even with the higher rates. They have it combined with every rebate under the sun.
Also, listen to his wording for someone who doesn't know better.
"You get the discount in lieu of special financing, you will get the special financing as long as you qualify for it"
This statement if you don't hear or understand what in lieu means (which is what the dealership is hoping for) makes it seem like you get both.
@@Delivrdthats false, some rebates are not stackable with special financing.
That is the standard doc fee in Floriduh
@@Delivrd I work for Toyota and you can’t get the discount and the special financing. It’s either one or the other and Toyota puts it in writing for the dealership. Hope this helps.

Killer video, and definitely some tricky framing from the sales manager.
PS, your new editor is a killer. Love this new format!
And just keep in mind the minute your drive off the lot your "New" purchase becomes just another used car ,losing 20% or more.
Can someone explain Doc fees. Wife worked card industry for 20 years, she says that in NC if you charge it (or required to charge it) by state law you have to charge to everyone. I ‘06 when I bought my only new car it was either $299 or $399 boy have those fees gone up. Negotiated what I thought was a good price on a Tacoma then they added the fee to the deal.
I immediately said OH NO! I have a policy of not paying people for work they don’t perform. I will shut down any deal over this bit of integrity. Why do I say this, because the dealer was in VA (family home) and I was stationed in the military in SC. I had no trade in, I had no loan to satisfy, I was not obtaining a new loan, they were not able to register or title the car in SC, they could not forward the tax because SC was a flat $300 sales tax and I had to go to the base a get military non-residency signed (another dealer non-performed paperwork).
Their response was it was policy to charge everyone the fee. I said the negotiated price is $22K and that is what the check will be, you figure out the paperwork.
In summary, isn’t such a thing as DOC fee, it’s part of the total price you pay and if you want the total price lower negotiate it lower. It’s your lack of negotiation that doesn’t effective remove the fee.
What a BS part of the car industry and they wonder why they get such a bad rep.
“In lieu of”……that’s like FINE PRINT!
idk. I let them know the ftc requires them to send the otd and i get one even from the sketchiest places like victory mitsubishi lol. I even ask for it to be signed by a manager
Does it make sense to get pre approved if you know the dealer is offering low APR?
An LE is going to come with a backup camera she says. No S#$t Sherlock, that’s Federal law for all cars sold today
All the incentives are advertised online. Rate is off your credit so if your 700 plus you will be good on rates especially Brand new
CLASSIC BAIT AND SWITCH 😂
If was worse than I thought, She said $999 Doc fee then she said $229 registration fee. It’s starting to get like the airlines charging for every aspect of the flight, except in this case the fees are getting way over inflation.
It’s time for people to start berating dealerships for these numerous and inflated fees. Unfortunately people don’t change attitudes in today’s society by being embarrassed. Americans have no shame, you literally have to berate them in to submission. It’s like Basic military training for the general public, at least what basic training once was where you got yelled at.
They wouldnt send you the deal in writing because of the rolled together rebates in the discount. They want you to show up to the store, then in person break down how you dont qualify for some of those rebates. First responder, college grad, etc.
Sounds right. This is why I won't go to the dealer until I have a WRITTEN firm offer in hand.
What a difference a year makes!
They selling volume so you can’t negotiate they moving metal I’m in car Sales. This is a great deal for sure
In lieu means that you EITHER get the discount OR the special interest rate. That is commonly done.

Great video, thanks! Let me ask you a question. I'm working on a deal for a 2023 Wrangler. Dealer website list two prices (KBB fair value and Dealer Price). KBB is nearly $5000 less so asked if they'd honor that price? Reply was they just got a deposit on it, and it was no longer on their website yesterday. Today it's back on the site with the same KBB and Dealer pricing. Any suggestions?
they dont want to sell it for KBB...they know wranglers will sell...popular vehicle with great resale and they will make a better than KBB..you dont get the deal when you know TOO much!

Toyota dealerships are definitely stuck up.
Did I miss something? Video seems to end prematurely, missing the final, complete explanation. ????
One thousand dollar doc fee is crazy high....that is just pure profit for them
Truth
I really lucked out and got my last new car for a deal that seems like it would be too good to be true, but actually wasn't due to a few lucky factors. I got it for close to 30% off MSRP. Was definitely not a normal situation, and I don't expect anything like that to happen again.
First, I was buying in July 2020 during the pandemic before the supply shortage. Second, I bought from a volume dealership. Third, the car I was buying was a higher priced, more luxury focused model car that isn't typically synonymous with that car brand, so the car was a low volume model that also happened to be on the dealership lot for a while. Fourth, it was a 2019 model year. Lastly, it was the end of the month when I was purchasing.
I called into the dealership and was basically just given the low price right then and there by the internet sales manager (I assume they just really wanted to stop paying to keep it on their lot). I called another dealership nearby that also had the exact same car in stock (same make, model year, trim, and color), and that dealership couldn't even come close to matching the price. That salesperson was shocked at the price I was quoted, and joked that maybe he should look to buy the car from that other dealership considering how good of a price I was quoted.
I seriously lucked out big time.
Where’s your last live video? I was hoping to follow up with it since I was at work but it’s not up

Definitely go to the dealer, get out-the-door pricing, and make a video on the breakdown of that. Ready...BREAK!
Actually good idea, on my way to GA lol
Dealerships will not give you a crazy deal in writing because they know you will use it to prove the price. I have 2 salesman at Toyota I trust and will sell me at that prices as. stated on phone or text.
So how often do people have to walk away from pricing they were promised but get denied at the dealership?
@@priestesslucy3299 I have walked away many times if the deal is no good, usually it’s at a dealership I have never bought a car from
She was totaly fine when you told her which dealer you got that original quote from the del with Toyota of Atlanta but she didnt want you shopping around. Why is it a bad thing to shop around? Seriously its like buying food from a supermarket and trying to get the lowest price. Run run run
I love it when you ask about the ad on their website and the dealership salesperson tells you you have to be "careful with some of the advertisements" because they try to trick you, lol.
Literally made me laugh out loud lol
The ads are deceptive from the manufacturer. U get better pricing when paying cash or better APR when financing. U don’t get both. This is normal. No different that same as cash deals where it’s 0% financing if paid off in a certain time period. Then people get hit with years of financing if not paid off even if as little as $50 remains unpaid.
@voodoo_chicken1 my favorite part is Tomi knows this and doesn't pass this knowledge onto his viewers. And tries to argue it with salespeople/managers. All in an effort to look like he's a tough negotiator. He does fine-ish, but he's not doing anything special haha
So 4 hours, no wait 7 hours with F&I? If they keep you waiting by yourselves pick a loud music video & play it full blast. Some phone systems have the ability to listen in.

If the info you want in writing is on your screen, why not do a "print screen" and print it out?
Exactly. The dealership gave him all the info he requested. He is just wanting to convince his customer that HE negotiated a great deal on their behalf. Dealers have wised up to this sort of stuff from brokers like Tomi, and soon his customers will too
He had to do everything he could to make them look bad even though he knew everything about special financing vs rebates to now show his "buyers", hey don't go here for a better price cause they are "shady" and is gonna convince his customers to pay more to use Tomi's services
Ifit's not in writing FROM an actual salesperson from the dealer with their name on it, I don't think it has ANY value at the dealership.
As long as I get an actual formal offer from an actual salesperson with their name, their VIN, the full price before taxes, etc. then in my experience, they honor that.
But just showing them an ad -- then you get all the reasons that's not valid for YOU.
We don't want you trying to get a better price than what we're offering. Lol.
$1000 doc fee? I will run out from this dealer immediately. Save 12k??? No way.
lol gotta be Toyota of Newnan. I have tried many times to make a deal with them. They are one of the WORST dealers in the state of GA.
Was this car subject to the SET add on bullshit? In both my dealings they refused to remove any of this stuff because it was "added on at the port".
Toyota in the southeast is some sort of unique distributor and they are famous for these forced addons. Something going back to the early days when toyota came to the us.
@@Vicos Yeah. it's a thorn in my side in case you couldn't tell. :)

Great content but why do you never address the doc Fees????????
Credit always depends on a persons credit score. Mostly they only provide that amount discount if you are a cash buyer. That’s a killer deal and so would jump on it. The dealership is being absolutely transparent and honest. They published it on their website. Their discount is amazing below msrp because that is what they bought the car for from the dealer. She was very clear the discount was because they are getting a volume bonus and that is why it’s so low. None if these are red flags at all. If they give you a price you just call another dear shop, fax them that, they beat it and the dealership has not lost the business. Dear ships no longer provide anything in writing because you go to their, your credit sucks and now they can’t give you that special rate because you DONT QUALIFY for it. This is a horrible example given by this video and for me if I found this dealer I would be there doing that deal. It’s insanely lower with a huge discount because they are after a dear shop volume discount.
Dealerships never buy at MSRP. MSRP is the manufacturer's recommended sale price. Dealerships get it at something like 70-85% 9f MSRP

In my home state the cap for a Doc Fee is $85. All it is, is a low level staffer punching numbers in a computer to register the vehicle into the DMV system. Tell stealership to deduct the outrageous excess Doc Fee from the price of the car or if they refuse, walk off the stealership and go somewhere else. I understand that different states have different Doc Fee limits, but if stealerships in my home state are just fine and dandy with punching numbers in a computer for $85, your home state stealership should be just as fine doing the same thing from $85 as well. Don’t let the stealership tell you that is “state law” or that they “have to charge you” $999 for simply punching numbers in a computer, tell them that you are not “everybody else” and if they want to sell this car today, reduce it or take it off the final sales price. Stand up for yourself!!!! This is a business transaction. You are not there to make friends.
They will tell you they have to charge the same doc fee to everyone to avoid discrimination lawsuits, so you must tell them that they can reduce the price elsewhere.
