At Rock Hill Farm and Homes we upload new videos at least 3 times per week, about our 20 Acre hobby farm, our John Deere 2038R compact tractor and other equipment, and the businesses that we run.
These businesses include a manufacturing operation, a Christmas tree farm, real estate investing, a lawn care business, and an online retail store. I demonstrate how I am able to use these ventures to earn a good living without a traditional job.
We have some cool toys and always think outside the box on our little homestead so come along for the ride.
You can expect new videos from us every other day, usually around 8 AM.

Anyone else here love this equipment we are like little boys in a sand box
Case salesman seemed to know his equipment the best out of the guys you talked with. Kudos to him and Case…drives me crazy to talk to a salesman only to find out you know more about the equipment than the person who’s job it is to know.
Exactly right. He was knowledgeable
I hate the new Case skid loaders, there is so much lag in the controls compared to a Cat, no snap at all, operated 2 different ones in the last 6 years and neither one was very impressive, had the SV280 anniversary edition in red and grey and a track machine same size, they are reliable and the quality seems to be there but the controls just suck, now if you want to talk about great machines worth every penny and more, the Ditch Witch SK800 is such a great machine, love it, damn near don’t even need a skid loader if you are doing smaller jobs.
I was impressed with what ditch which had at these shows. I ended up buying a John Deere 325G and I’ve been happy with it so far
I would stay away from the cases skidsteers. I work at a dealership and it's all we see is bad wiring harnesses just one after another.
In my opinion Takeuchi makes the best skidsteers and since Hitachi started making their mini excavators anything from a Cx80 and down are a big disappointment.
@@chrisnelson3691 - Case Skid Loaders has adjustments on controls, the Case are super fast just turn them up. You can flip coins with those buckets.
I have been catching up on some of my latest UA-cam content providers. I love how you are sharing your research with us. Good stuff Brock!
I appreciate you following along. It’s a huge purchase so I want to get it right
I was in a deer 325 again today that showed up at the dealership but it’s already sold to someone else
@@RockhillfarmYT I am sure when you make the final decision you will be comfortable with it. You are doing the right thing for such a large purchase. It will most likely be a machine you will have for many years to come.
Takeuchi and kubota are taking over. My TL8 is a cat killer
This was an awesome show. So glad I got the chance to go. The UA-cam meet and greet was very cool too.
Yes it was.
Really helpful, brother!
If you are anything like me, a purchase is coming real soon. When I finally decided in my head that I wanted, and could afford an excavator, the search was on and I had one within a couple months. As a side note, my forestry mulching guy charged $200 per hour and he said he was barely making a profit at that rate between breakdowns and transport times between small jobs.
Yeah, I’m ready to buy one but want to get my truck first
That 325 is a great machine
Good video Brock. Enjoyed the show!!!
Thanks
Awesome that you got some seat time on these machines so you can make a comparable decision in the near future.
Thanks for watching
CAT skid steers have a rebranded kubota engine, it’s cheaper to out source. That tells you something about kubota engines. However, I’m a CASE fan. Looks good, comfortable, smooth controls, and decent pricing.
Not true at all… yes kubota makes the engine but the machine itself out performs kubota and all the other brands in every aspect due to how well it’s engineered … except for maybe the door lol
@@catwrldfl yeah. I used to work for CAT. That’s why I’m still a case fan lol
Serviceability went down hill for bobcat. I wish you would have talked about which compact track loader you liked best.
The biggest thing i believe if you are lucky enough to be buying a newer machine or brand new even is getting the machine which will work better for what you are trying to do !!!! They are all different for the most part so you can find what is best suited for your particular application to me having a teleboom would be the end all game changer. Unless your strictly doing a shit ton of actual digging would be huge but most guys i feel are trying to figure out how to have both a skid steer and a mini excavator
The other guy that showed the difference between a JD vs Kubota skid steer didn’t allow for comments .
Thanks for the input .
Have you ever used the skid steers for construction companies?
Around here Kubota is by far the biggest brand. Surprised you didn't try one of those. They beat those other brands in so many areas (especially the case lol)
I think it'll come down to the same as buying a new pickup - 1) does it have the options you want? 2) is comfortable to sit in all day? and those being equal - what's the price difference?
They all seem like good machines
What are the warranty on these skid steers and finances how much do any have low interest rates on a loan . You need to ask
I don't know, but if the dealers are all good I have always heard that caterpillar tends to have a higher build quality than the other brands. I know the guy that my mother-in-law used to create a pond for her had both a caterpillar bulldozer and a good size excavator. Both of them were enclosed and had heat and air conditioning.
Thanks for sharing. I really like the cat machines
Got a hard quote from a dealer the other day and they were the most expensive but I’m considering them.
Thanks for watching
@@RockhillfarmYT Yes that's the other thing I've heard that caterpillar tend to cost more than the other brands, but I've heard they hold up better.
I live near JD world headquarters, The John Deere Classic is the last weekend in June 🚜
I don’t know what that is but it sounds fun. I “only” have five pieces of John Deere equipment
@@RockhillfarmYT golf tournament, first round is tomorrow
personally I love the Deere they are sooo comfortable and they have what seems a unlimited amount of power
I agree
Thanks for watching
Also i believe at the end of the day i think you would be hard pressed to beat a CAT them things are tuff and work sooooo well
Very good idea for comparing !!
What's the differences between case, cat deere kabouta and new Holland skid steers??
Just curiously asking!
When you first tested out the 35g he said you had a sticker, do you need one to test drive machines at the expos. I’f so how do you get one
It seems like that is at the discretion of the company. Basically anyone can just walk up and drive them though
One company might have you sign a waiver and then give you A badge like that so they know you’ve already signed it. Another company might not have you do anything. There was one type of machine I wanted to drive that was taking appointments and I would’ve had to come back in two hours, But that was at GIE which was much busier than the utility expo
Some of them want to give you a little speech first and some just send you out there as soon as you walk up
Thanks for watching
@@RockhillfarmYT IS there any age limit restrictions?
@@RockhillfarmYT how'd u like the 35g?
Nice machine. I’m hoping to get one but I bought a 325G skid loader first
@@RockhillfarmYT did you preferred over the cat?
The best one is the one that paid the most.
The controls can be adjusted
EDIT: Delete... my original statement is not correct... CDL in pretty much all states is only required if you're driving a 26001+ LB (combined with cargo or trailer) truck. This means you can get a 10k LB truck with a 14k LB trailer and still be okay.
My understanding is that Hitachi makes the JD mini ex’s but I could be wrong. Check it out.
You are correct. The salesman told me that as kind of a selling point that their machine is basically made by the number one manufacturer and then they add their touches on top of it
Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing the info
Yes all deere excavators are built in Japan by hitachi. Identical except for paint and decals. Smooth. Stable , fuel efficient
Thanks for sharing
I picked my new Deere 325G up at the dealership this morning
@@RockhillfarmYT What made you choose the Deere? I think are a bunch of us that really wanted to hearr your opions on everything.... left us hangin
I sold my 3046r. I've started my search. I'm thinking a case tv450b
That would be a beast of a machine. It’s been a year since I test drove those case machines but I remember some good features.
Seems like there backup camera and controls on the screen were really good
I would say make sure you get a vertical left instead of a radial lift boom.
If you ever want to play around on a skid loader come on over
@@RockhillfarmYT I'm going to take you up on that because I wanna check out your attachments and dump trailer, need to do a meet up at rockhill farms with your fans and do a BBQ and play with toys. 😏😏😊
Sounds like a cool idea. A question if anyone would actually show up.
I have a great loyal subscriber base that comment on every video but most of them probably live halfway across the country
It is a real offer though. I think you have my number
You dont drive it bud , you operate
Lol he does drive it cause. he def don’t operate it
Shut the my brain cells were lost reading this comment stupid
@@duatinhall9591
If you have enough to go buy a new machine, then your comment is just rude.
But something tells me you couldn't get approved for a new kia!
Deere is a Hitachi painted yellow, smooth controls
Thanks for sharing. I heard that partnership has ended now but I’ve got the chance to run several Deere loaders and I like them
@@RockhillfarmYT Hitachi is still building them , dealer in my area is still stocking the same machines. John Deere loaders are built by liebherr. Loaders built in Germany, excavators built in Japan, skid steers and track loaders are only heavy equipment built by John deere in the us. Sad to hear but the truth. They do build great excavators in Japan.
All I saw was a headline about Hitachi and Deere separating.
I did not actually click it for the details.
My Deere Salesman was bragging about their machines being made by Hitachi.
@@RockhillfarmYT partnership has ended but deere is purchasing for hitachi. I am sure for many years to come. Deere doesn't build much equipment it's all rebranding
Thanks for sharing
I don’t mean to make it complicated but you should try a machine with hand and foot controls, it will give you much more machine accuracy , foot controls for boom and bucket take a little while but once you get it they are way more productive. I’ve done both over 20 years the machine I chose to keep was a T595 Bobcat with hand and foot, new Holland or case they do it as well but I think it’s electric over hydraulic now, not sure kind of removes the feel a bit ,
Anyhow give it a try before your head gets obsessed with iso or h pattern
Hope I haven’t made it harder
Cheers from Aus
Kubota and Takeuchi it’s the top 2
You’re missing all the best machines.. Kubota, Takeuchi, and yanmar make the best mini ex for the money.
Not to start a debate, but I personally just ran a brand new Takeuchi mini & and its controls were not as smooth as it should have been, considering it literally is brand new. But I would love to run a kubota mini will continue to have a positive opinion of them until proven other wise differently, but I really want to like them. 😅
Kubota!
I would not go with the 35g it’s to small I would go with at least the 50g
That would be my ideal machine. Stay at the 10,000 pound range so I can haul it
Depends on what you’re doing with it. That’s about it. Except case skids are worse in about every way.
Cat would be my last choice
Thanks for sharing. Most people seem to be pretty down on bobcat as a brand but I’ve mainly heard good things about Cat
Pffft, there's no rocks in those piles of dirt lol
Those swing out front door machines are horrible. You can’t get out unless the boom is all the way down. So annoying
WHY have you positioned the Camera(to the extreme left) so that we only get a limited view of the range of movement of the machine ? Kinda dumb really !
It was a crowded show with long lines at each machine so I didn’t have the same time and room to set up the shots the way I would with my own machine on a job
Thanks for watching
@@RockhillfarmYT Thank you for your excellent video !
Thanks for watching
I ended up buying a Deere 325G
Asv is better
Case is garbage. Tv 380 688 hours in the shop for a 16000 repair. Dont buy a case. When you google case construction equipment you will see alot of case tv's withless than 800 to 1000 hours 4sale. JUNK!!!
Thanks for sharing
my case 90xt still outdoes my 332g in loading trucks and grading speed, balance, control, and operator to machine responce time and control as well as visability. Just not as cushy if you like the radio and heater.
you don't even know how to operate a machine professionally, how can you rate something? Those who are really professionals know that the Yanmar you haven't even tested is the strongest and doesn't have maintenance, it just doesn't break.
I really didn’t rate the machines. I am shopping for a machine, and as I always do, I’m sharing my journey.
I take feedback from the viewers
Thanks for watching
Didnt know yanmar made entire machines, thought they were an engine company.
