    hey I was stationed @ Ellsworth from end of 1990 to 1992. My dorm was the Washington ( room was on the 3rd floor ) and it was brand new back then.

    my first duty station. I hope there's stuff to do in South Dakota. At least I'm a crew chief for a B-1b Lancer the coolest jet in the air force.

    I never ever had in 10 years anything even close to that nice a 'dorm" room. Best I ever had was at Fort Benning, Kelly Hill Area,197th Infantry. 179 th Intel. 3 of us in one room 1/3 that size.We were supposed to have 6 so we had bunk beds. We took out the bottom beds to increase floor space.Got lazy boys, fridge,Toaster oven, 2 hot plates.1970/71 they just let beer in barracks.First shirt saw our digs, said he loved our suite.

    Borglum hall fucking sucks. That dorm is like a prison compared to all the other ones.

    Great video!!! your room looks really nice I am planning on enlisting and the standard of living seems way better than the other branches. It took me a while to decide if I wanted to join the Marines or the Air Force

      Of course I'm biased, but Air Force is the way to go! (for real though, I've heard our standard of living is better than others) good luck in your enlistment process!

    Love the room. I just joined the Air Force and was wondering if it cost money to live in the dorms. Also, do they have storage for mountain bikes and possibly for some of the stuff you don't want in your room? Just curious.

    • @alilykliewer7034
      @alilykliewer7034 3 роки тому

      It doesn’t necessarily “cost money,” but they do take it out of your paycheck. Bikes and stuff I’m not sure about, the dorms where I’m at have bike racks though.

    The only thing I didn’t have in the early 2000’s at Travis was the full size fridge, that would have been nice, given we weren’t lucky enough to be in dorms with a personal kitchen/laundry to share with our pissmates.

    I lived in the Lincoln dorms for 2 years, they let me move off base about a year ago. Never got to see the inside of the new dorms cause they were finished but not open when I moved out. Tbh, the dorms aren't bad at all, just the new dorm management are WAY more strict than what I was used to when I first moved in early 2017.

    You are in the OLD Dorms? When I was Stationed at Hellsworst Air Force Ranch, I started out in the 2 story, wood frame, rectangle shaped buildings. A large Day Room (TV room) in the middle of the building. A bunch of wooden chairs and 2 sofas to accommodate everyone. 8 rooms off one end of the day room, Other end had 7 rooms with a stair well and entry door. Up stairs was the same set-up except the pool table and vending machines were there. Showers room was at the end of each hall. 3 shower heads, 3 sinks, 3 shifters, 3 pissers. 15 room up stairs, 15 downstairs, 2 guys to a room. 60 Guys to each building, regardless of rank. In the basement were the building's Water heater and furnance and every man had a storage locke, in the dank, musty, mildew ridden, basement. Also 2 washers and 2 dryer for 60 guys. (But with 60 guys using them they were broken most of the time.) 1 Mini refrigerator in each room. No cooking allowed, not even Microwave. Air conditioning was a open window. Phone hook up was OK, but cable hook up was forbidden.
    The "NEW" Barracks were 4 story, air conditioned, 400 Person Barracks where the Women lived. The SP s had the 3 bottom floors, the ladies lived in the penthouse. 2 person to a room, (Unless you were an NCO). 1 bathroom shared by 2 rooms. A washer and dryer in each bathroom. Phone and cable hook up were pre installed.
    You really have NO IDEA how nice you have it!!

      @ David Abbitt When were you there? I was there a few years ago; and the best dorms were the two 3-story brick ones. The rest were the 2-story wooden ones like you described.

      My first 4 months at Ellsworth (late 1986 to early 1987) were in Building 1210, one of the dorms you described. It was right across the street from Building 2530, one of the new dorms back then. Those dorms were worse than awful. Holes in the dry wall, doors falling off the hinges, it would have taken an OSI investigation to identify what the stains in the day room carpet were from. We unplugged our fridge because it was so noisy. No one cared about the old dorms because we were moving into the "new dorms" when they were finished. All of the wood framed dorms across from 2530 were torn down in the spring of 1987 if I remember correctly, some in better shape down the road towards the gym were used for the Family Surplus Warehouse and other places that didn't have a dedicated building.

      I was there in Nov. '78. Mover to the muliti-storied, air-conditioned barracks in Summer of '79. Got authorized to collect BAS & BAQ Fall of '79. Left Hell's Worst Air Plane Ranch '80. Wanted to leave so bad, I drove a U-Haul truck with my car on a tow bar, through a blizzard, headed west.
