- WILDKYLE and I head out for a very relaxing day on the beach. I polished up a couple of the rocks we found along the way so you'd get a little instant gratification.

- KINGSLEY NORTH -
Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

I buy a lot of lapidary supplies from The Rock Shed. I don't make money from your purchases there, but they have good prices and good service. This is where I buy my finer grits and polish.

Rob, I love how you cut in to polishing and then back to the beach. So great to see both aspects in the same video. Also love to see you and Kyle out hounding together!!
I can't always do that, but I do it when I can. I'm glad you enjoy it. I'm always thinking about the polishing while I'm out on the beach.
@@MichiganRocks Rob, I also like it when you go from the beach to polishing a rock and then back to the beach. If you don't go home first from the beach, it's fine that way also!! But it is cool how you go from one place to another!! 20 degrees here and the sun isn't coming out today!! I have to go blow leaves real soon! Association got rid of the lawn service at the end of October. I am on an end where I get more dead leaves and snow because of the air flow. That's fine, because I don't feel like I am in an association. But...not happy about this. I cannot stand the amount of leaves that are hanging around in the yard!! So no griping and I'll go have fun!! 🤣🤣🤣 Have a Good One!! 👍
@@kimfrommn7162 I just cleaned up the oak leaves on Wednesday. Those darn things hang on forever.
I totally agree! I like that too. Instant gratification, lol.
I love you two, and my prayers are with Kyle and his family...have fun!!!
I'm still praying for them too.
I'm glad you've got Kyle out there doing things he loves. He needed some happy in his life, ❤
This was actually filmed a few weeks ago. I'm not sure how he's doing. He texted me the day after his mom passed away and I saw his video. I'm praying for Kyle and his mom every day. I hope he's doing alright.
Hi guys!!! I follow you too, Kyle... I'm so sorry about your Mom. Hugs, Sweetie 🥰
I'm still praying for Kyle, his mom and his family. I feel really bad for them. Kyle was playing in a bar here and Alpena this summer and Nancy and I got to watch him. We sat with his mom and his sister. That was a really nice night. I'm glad I got to know her a little better.
Um grande lake meu amigo. Super lugar com lindas rochas. Pedras rodadas...
I love when it rains easier to see the good rocks 😊
Sure was that day. Same thing happened in Montana and that was good too.
Oh Rob, you crack me up! Love your positivity and love of nature. Keep on rockhounding!
Ok, I will!
love walking along Lake Huron
Me too.
I spend as much time in Lake Superior northeast of Duluth as I can. The calm water days are the BEST for seeing what's along the shoreline. The water of Lake Huron is gorgeously clear. Whether I find something awesome or not, a day at the lake is always a great day! Thanks for sharing another great lake!
You sound exactly like me. I always say that even if I don't find something, I still had a day on the beach.
Nice To c u again with Kyle❤. And all the beautiful rocks u spotted
You two are great together ,love how you both enjoy your days doing what you love
We always have a fun time together.
I loved watching you polish the rocks. Nice petoskey stones. ❤❤❤
Always fun to see you two together. Saw a lot of perty rocks.
Kyle is fun to hang out with.
I still would love to meet him, even if it's just for a few minutes to say hello and how much I love his channel as well.
Lovely to see you and Kyle out and about together. That unakite you picked up was stunning. I was praying that you would take it. My favourite rock.
Did Kyle take that one? I don't remember. I have plenty of it at home, so I know I didn't.
@@MichiganRocks no you put it back in the water. I wish we had that in the UK. I'm very drawn to that rock. It's so beautiful
@@crystalagate07 It's usually better in Lake Superior, but that might just be because there's more of it there. I do find some really nice ones in Lake Huron from time to time too.
@@MichiganRocks I really must take a trip across the pond just to do some rock hounding. Much prettier rocks over there
Rob you are a great friend to Kyle!! Thank you
Kyle's a great friend to me, so it works out well.
Lots of Beautiful Creations!!! Once again- nice video as always.
Nice to see Kyle again. Sometimes hunting in the rain has its advantages. Went rock hunting on Monday and found some nice stuff.
I'll admit that I love a nice, sunny day, but the light rain that day didn't bother me at all and really did make those Petoskeys high on the beach stand out.
Beautiful!! The water is so clear! 🌊
I love seeing them polished ♥️🇬🇧
Always love the hunting of different rocks! Go Blue!
Go blue!
That Petoskey stone that you polished is so beautiful. Thank You for sharing.
Another fantastic day at the beach for both of you. Loved the little bloopers at the end😅
If you only knew how many bloopers I produce in every video.
That beach is the stuff dreams are made of!!
I always enjoy when you hang out with Wild Kyle. I think you bring out the fun side of each other. It was so sad to hear his mom passed. He will be in my prayers. Thanks for another great day at the beach!❤
Kyle is full of energy and brings out the same in me. He's a ton of fun to hang out with. I've been praying for Kyle and his mom too.
The petosky turned out beautifully!
Thanks for taking us along!
You're welcome, it was nice having you along since you were so quiet and well behaved.
@@MichiganRocks 😂
Cool polishing and hunting!
I love the mudstone!!!
I wish they were a lot harder so they'd polish up better. I still love seeing a good one though.
one good thing about the cold weather when rock hounding is the fact there is way less people competing for the good finds! thank you guys for sharing this awesome video!
That's sort of the idea, but it's amazing how many people are out on Lake Superior even in really cold weather. This was Lake Huron on a beach that rarely has many people on it because it's not near any public access.
Love the outtakes. That Petoskey stone that you polished came out really nice. Hello to Nancy and Sam.
Thanks for sharing your journey.
A chilly day indeed but no flies or mosquitos!
Mosquitos aren't usually a problem on the beach. I'll take weather like this over flies any day.
Always enjoyable to watch you 2. The side view polished Petosky was really cool to see. Fun video, as always👍👍
You don't see many like that polished. I like all three views of Petoskey stones. They're all interesting.
You found some great rocks! And I enjoy seeing other rock hunters looking for rocks with you.
I enjoy other people hunting with me too. I don't mind going out alone, but company is always nice too.
Hi you two. How are you doing Kyle? It's great to see y'all again. Thank you for taking us along. ❤️😃
Kyle just lost his mom a few days ago. Here's a video that he posted. Might be nice to leave him a supportive comment. ua-cam.com/video/tk2PQC-8dao/v-deo.htmlsi=hauuDem15ItMYo5C
@@MichiganRocksit broke my heart to hear the news 😢 he needs all the prayers right now..
@@JordanR_479 Hopefully his fans and mine are both praying.
You two are just characters! 😂 But I love these collaborations videos! You found some amazing rocks today! And the petoskeys were just awesome! Those cladopora were amazing! Makes me wish we had those around here! Hope your turkey day was good and here's wishing you both and your families a wonderful and merry one! Happy Holiday to you both!❤
We had a good Turkey Day here. My daughter's family is home for the weekend, so there are a couple little ones in the house to liven it up a bit.
Great to see you guys!
Love that rock hunt you did well! I am glad Kyle is doing what his mother would love to see him do what he loves to do. That’s inspiring 😊
We filmed this a few weeks ago. He thought she was doing okay at the time.
@@MichiganRocks Oh I didn’t know.
Good video.
Wow that Petosky stone you polished up is beautiful!
Such a cool video, great finds, it's always best in the rain.
I can't say that I love to have rain while I'm out hunting, but it was very helpful on this day.
@@MichiganRocks I always find lots more pretties when it's raining.
I suppose a rainstorm, then sunburst is much better.
Kiwis must be tough 🤣😊😊
Salicified!! I have always wondered what those were! Agreed, they tumble terribly
They seem like they'd be good, but they're not. Usually harder rocks are better, but not in this case.
I always love your collabs with Kyle! It's just fun to watch. Those mudstones look like they're about a 4 on the mohs hardness scale. Good job anyway Rob
I'd guess that they're no more than a three. I think Petoskey stones are around 3.5 on the Mohs scale (I have seen them listed as anywhere from 3-5) and mudstones are way softer.
That Petoskey is gorgeous!!
You gotta watch out for those scarlet and gray rocks 😉😉😄.
Also, I am having Petoskey stone envy!!!
I can't even imagine such a hideous rock. Ugh.
@@MichiganRocks 🤣🤣🤣
I really enjoyed this episode. Your editing has gotten better and better, It makes it fresh when you cut to polishing a specific piece, even if we've enjoyed petoskey stones a bunch of times with you. You capture the individuality of each very well. Thanks as always for taking us along, and for becoming an even better story teller along the way.
Thanks. I don't really notice that I've improved my editing, but then again, it seems to take longer all the time, so I must be doing something extra. Story telling is something I really feel like I need to work on. Kyle is good at that.
Thanks so much guys excellent hunt! I can’t wait to get back out on the lake but our rock beach washed out so we are waiting for a storm to change it again. Lake Huron is so beautiful relaxing can’t get enough.
It's amazing how much beaches can change, isn't it? I don't think people who don't live near a big lake can imagine how much rock can be moved around by a storm.
Another great rock hunt.
Good collaboration! You found some super nice Petoskey stones, and I loved that bigger one you polished!👍🏻
That one turned out pretty well. I like the side view of the coral on it.
@@MichiganRocks absolutely!
Awesome pudding stones
Go blue!! Great rock hunt today
Go blue!
GreT episode!!!
Wonderful Michigan November hunt.
It was a really nice day out there.
Just found your page and Im learning so much! Thank you!!
Oh and my favorite so far is when you worked with the geologists.. their knowledge is mind blowing lol
Yeah, Nat and Paul are awesome.
Gotta love them glacial till beaches. I need to get over that way and go walk the beaches.
This beach has a nice mix of glacial till and fossils from the limestone bedrock.
Really wild face rock next to the Petoskey you picked up at 14:35. Love your videos
Was it Kyle's face? He's wild.
💎
😊
The last little petosky stone looks like a little paw print.
Always enjoy watching you two. It’s getting colder, 20degF tonight in Clarkston. A few weeks left to beach hunt in Michigan!
I don't have any plans for more beach hunts, but I hope to get something in before the snow flies.
Heres me everytime you leave a Potaski stone 😢 but i want it!! Ive never even seen one...
After you've seen thousands of them, you get a little more selective.
Great video, as always.
One of these days, Dr Nat and I will have to be in your area when Kyle is also around; seems like a great fella...
Yeah, Kyle is a lot of fun. We've gotten to be pretty good friends over that past few years.
I enjoy you two together!! What a Fun Pair!!! I hope you guys @re having a Nice Thanksgiving Weekend!!! 🤗♥️👍
We're have a good one here. My daughter's family is here for a few days and the house has been much more lively than it usually is.
@@MichiganRocks Ohhhhhhh! How Fantastic!!! I remember those days at every Holiday!!! It is the Best Memories!!! My daughters go to their husbands side. @@kimfrommn7162 We've been sharing them with David's family. We had them for Christmas the past couple of years, but they're going to spend Christmas with his family this year. That's how we got them for Thanksgiving.
We ran into you back in October in Rockport. By the time I realized it was you we had already passed by. The one thing I really wanted from our trip to Michigan was an omar and nope didnt happen.
Lake Superior has lots of omars. I'm not sure if I have ever found one in Lake Huron.
Big game tomorrow, no rock hunting allowed. Go blue
Go blue!
Go Green!!! 👋 From Wyoming!
That's a disappointing comment.
@@MichiganRocks 🤣🤣🤣
It's 54 now in north Florida
That's pretty chilly for Florida.
I think if somebody told you 20 years ago that you were going to be walking Lake Michigan, picking up rocks with a spoon to show to the camera, you’d probably think they were insane. Funny how life works out.
I have had that thought many, many times. I like trying to imagine what I would have thought of an iPhone when I was in high school in the eighties. I loved computers then, but boy, have they come a long way since then.
Hey Rob! 👋
Thanks for sharing another great video! I enjoy getting to watch you and Kyle rock hunt together! It seems like you guys get along really well, and always have a lot of fun. It's awesome you two have been able to connect so many times this year! If you don't mind me asking (and I apologize if you've already mentioned it), but how did you guys meet?
I believe the rock you found around 4:19 was banded rhyolite.
P.S. - I got a chuckle out of your "hard water" comment! 😂
Kyle is from Michigan. His mom got cancer a few years ago, so he has been up visiting her much more often for the past couple of years. He just lost her earlier this week, so I don't think he'll be coming up as much next summer. I hope he does though.
Since we're both guys who make UA-cam videos about rocks he contacted me a few years ago to do a video together. At this point, he has a room at our house. He has stayed here at least four or five times in the past three years. He's easy to have around, so we like when he visits.
Burrrrrrr today 11-24-23 SE Michigan happy to drop by 19:19
😍😍😍
As always, a LOT of beutiful rocks, but I know you can`t keep them allI like that when you find a stone, then cut it, or polish it and show us. Some do that quit often and that is what I really like. All at once.
I do it when I can. Sometimes it's easier than others. For rocks that require tumbling, there's just not time to do that before it's time to get the video out.
Yes, green and white is a poor combination - especially on Black Friday.
That last Petoskey reminded me of the back of a turtle
That's why I make these: ua-cam.com/users/shorts2MVTZq0DQew
Does anyone cut cladapora? It looks cool. I don’t want you to suffer, truly, but green and white causing bad thoughts, is one of the most mysterious things I’ve ever heard uttered. I think of pines in the snow….but I believe you that something sinister exists. Nice trek. Thanks!
Yes, I and others cut cladopora. It makes some awesome slabs and polishes beautifully. I just cut one for a UA-cam Short. I have one cab made and several others started from that rock. I need to wrap my cab and I hope to get that video out on Tuesday.
So funny you are
Cool Petoskey stone. How long did it take you to polish it?
I don't remember exactly. Probably around half an hour or so.
Happy Day After Thanksgiving to you both! Entertaining video! So Rob, I gotta say I’m intrigued by the green + white = bad thoughts comment and wondering what’s behind it. Ever try to figure it out?
It's a Michigan - Michigan State thing. I graduated from Michigan. State's colors are green and white.
@@MichiganRocks Doh! 🤦🏻♀️I should have known that!
Good luck tomorrow! But hey, who needs luck when your team already knows all the Bucks’ signals! 😉✌️
Esse jasper listrado como vc chama eles?
Acho que não encontrei nenhum jaspe neste vídeo. Não tenho certeza de qual pedra você está falando. Você pode me dar um carimbo de data/hora?
Hey man I have been washing some cave creek quarts for about a month now I’d like to send it to you I’ve burnished and tried getting a glossy color but for some reason I can’t get it to shine would love to see what you could do to em peace man
I'm sort of overloaded with rocks right now, so I don't have any extra tumbler capacity.
QUESTION- Inn one of your videos you Tumbled Rocks for a year, you did one batch in silicon carbide/no polish and the other polished. We are new to this Tumbling / Rock hounding Hobby. I know that the Rocks reduces in size. So, if one was to Tumble Rocks for a year in Silicon Carbide or just tumbling the Rocks, would ther be no rocks left, since Rocks being Tumbled reduces in size???
I'm not sure I understand your question. First, I don't recommend tumbling rocks for a year without checking on them. That was a stunt/experiment just to do something extreme to see what would happen. I learned a lot from that little experiment though, like silicon carbide will never polish a rock.
Tumbling them for a year without changing grit will not reduce the rocks to nothing. Changing grit each week like I usually do will reduce the size more since there's more grinding with fresh, coarse grit. I have often tumbled rocks down to about half their original size. That takes about four or five months, though, depending on the rock type.
@@MichiganRocks Thank You for sharing. You are THE EXPERT!!! We value Your Opinions because You Are THE CHAMPION AND MOST OF ALL YOU ARE THE EXPERT 2nd To None.
Hello Rob ..what is the tool that you use to cut the grove on the edge of a stone before putting the wire on it
Hi William, I answered you on the other video that you asked the same question.
@@MichiganRocks ok thanks
Are the bright colored rocks jaspers?
Most of them are not. A couple of the red ones could be, though.
Nice, how far north are you?
This is a beach I don't reveal the location of, other than it's on Lake Huron. I have permission to cross someone's private property to get there.
@@MichiganRocks Thats cool. Im just curious because I live only about 1/4 mile from Saginaw Bay and not that far becomes Lake Huron and do a lot of fishing locally and I just dont see rocks that big around here. Mostly sand and small rocks. I suppose if ya head north of me you will probably find them.
@@zipshed I haven't hunted rocks in that area. I'm north of there. Au Gres is the closest I've been to there, probably. If you go to the beach at the Singing Bridge acesss and walk a long way, you'll probably find Petoskey and puddingstones.
Petoskey in Au Gres? No kidding! I've been to Singing bridge uncountable time from swimming to smelt fishing years ago to picking rocks. I must admit I've never found a Petoskey stone in my life but always wanted to. For some crazy reason I always thought you had to be way farther north to find them. Next time I'm up that way I will have to go for a beach walk and see if I can come up with one. That would be great! Thanks man!
@@zipshed They weren't thick or anything, but I found several.
Is that a big petosky at 4:04? Im new to rock hunting so sorry if its not!
No, that's a puddingstone.
Y'all got Petoskey stones???
Yep, we found a few.
What beach is this on Lake Huron? I’d love to explore that side of the state more.
This is a spot I get to by crossing private property, with permission of course. Since there's no public access, I don't advertise the location.
Where were you? Another secret location?
No, the same secret location. I do several videos on this beach each year.
Could I buy a small collection of your polished stones. Small sizes. Under 2 inches. I would be so great full. I enjoy your UA-cam very much. Thank you.
No, don't sell any polished stones. Sorry.
What is the rock at 16:00? I have one like that too!
People call that cladopora, but that's not necessarily accurate. There is more than one coral fossil that can be in a black matrix like that. But since that's what a lot of amateurs call it, and I'm an amateur too, that's what I usually go with.
Whatever you call it, it polishes up great. Here's a video I just put out tonight that shows some pendants I made of a rock similar to that. ua-cam.com/users/shortswW95iNHsqFU
Greenstone???
Greenstone as in chlorastrolite? That's not found in Lake Huron. It's found on Lake Superior in the Keweenaw Peninsula and on Isle Royale.
@@MichiganRocks Oh cool. I was hopeful you had the exception there ...
Can I ask where on huron is this
This is one of the places I don't sure the location of. I have permission to cross private property to get to this beach and I don't want to encourage trespassing by posting it here.
