  • You can enter named ranges in formulas which allows to use meaningful names in the formulas, making your formulas easier to understand. You can enter named ranges in formulas in three ways, the easiest way is to select the named range from the drop down list Excel displays when you type a formula. You can press F3 and if there are any named ranges Excel displays "Paste Name" dialogue box and you can select the named range. You can also click on "Use in Formula" in the "Define Names" group in the ribbon and select the named range.

I have a few named ranges, "blue", "white" and "green". I want to use a VLOOKUP formula to return a certain value depending on a another cells value. For example if A1's value is 6 then I want VLOOKUP to use "blue" as the named range, if A1's value is 15 then I want VLOOKUP to use the named range "white". I tried VLOOKUP(D11,E11,2,1) where E11 returns a value of either Blue, White or green. But I keep getting an N/A error.
