- ** Re-uploaded from my Instagram account from January 2022. Chandler just turned 2 years old and we are currently doing early intervention services. A lot of friends suggested to upload my video to share onto UA-cam as well to help others in a similar situation to us. Both my husband and I watched so many UA-cam videos that other families have shared and it honestly helped us so much in terms of identifying some signs early on. I hope this is helpful and will try to update you as we continue to learn on this journey with Chandler. **

Hi everyone! Sorry the volume of my voice-overs are so low for this video... I was too lazy to actually record with my mic so volume up if you want to hear what I'm saying!
It's been a really busy start to the new year for us since we finally started therapy services for Chandler through CA's Early Start program. We've also gotten an official autism diagnosis now as well for insurance purposes which is a whole other topic of discussion. Anyways, a lot of people have asked me how we even picked up on any signs at such a young age and it was primarily because of what we saw other families share online as well. So like I said in the past, I'm going to share our journey with Chandler with all of you in hopes are spreading more awareness on autism.
These are just some of the early signs we noticed but again it's a spectrum so every one is different. Chan chan is still so young so all of his therapy services are play-based right now but we're hoping to see some progress within the next 6 months! Also, if Chandler totally ignores you the next time you see him in person, now you'll know it's really not you, it's him (but sometimes it can actually be you if you're too much into his personal space 😆)

Reminds me of my son when he was little. He's 43 now. Wasn't diagnosed on the spectrum. He was in the Army for 6 years went to Iraq twice, graduated college. After all of that, a friend thought he might be Autisic. He had the VA test him and sure enough. Spent years trying to help. Can't even begin to tell you all the things. He always wanted to go in the Army so off he went. It really paid it's toll on him the good thing is it helped him grow up. He's a wonderful man and I'm so proud of him. He never gives up trying to accomplish the things he set out to do. He's a deep sea diver, rock climber among other things. He's a joy!

Oh gosh, same here with my son. I despair when I think back at the difficult times of school etc. Better late than never but I still am upset about it now. Hope all is well with you and your son though.

He is soo similar to my grandson. Very similar in many things. My grandson is almost 3. He starts to tock. We teking him to speak terapy last 5 months. He is improving . He pronounced many words. but still keine leizy to tock. He still don't have official diagnoses, but we suspect for before he is 2. We threi to 2 pediatrician . But everibory refuses, like he is too small. So we take things in our hands and threi some things.I find that show Ms.Reichel, help a lot. Sorry for my English. But I hope our love and patience will help him to grow to be good to take care of himself after we are all not here anymore.Just to mention my grandson eat and slip very well.And start to showing mach more affection to people and other kids. I hope I will find more videos about your little boy. I wish you success and happiness for you and your butifoul boy.
This describes my niece - she was put in intensive therapy at 18 months. New York State has amazing services for special needs kids. She is 17 now and top 10 in her school. She is fine - still flaps.her hands when she is stressed but that’s ok. It’s not the end of the world but get early intervention and don’t take no for an answer. Mothers know best

Wow this brought back so many memories of my daughter who’s autistic. She’s 10 now and doing great. Is in advanced math and has friends. But I remember how heart breaking something as simple as not responding to her name was for me…

She has her struggles…. But her achievements in life have never been taken for granted. I’m very proud of her, she is the light of my life.
This describes my son perfectly. He's 2 and still can't say a single word. I have ASD myself and so does his mother. Life just happens. So this is all expected. I really don't think of it as a bad thing to be honest. I have lived a good life, and I'll make sure he has a good start. Life is hard for everyone, it's just different between us. You're a great parent and you do your best. That's all he needs. He has so much potential in life, he's going to shock you when he gets older. If he's like I was, he's going to love to take things apart.
Have you done any interventions and can you share with us what you did? Also how do you feel as an adult with Asd? Do you feel different?
@@ElwynnForest We aren't doing anything about him at the moment, he could just be a slow learner it's just too soon to tell. As an adult, you just have to figure out what you're good at, your strengths, and focus on that. Not your weakness that hold you back like most do. You also must keep a positive mindset, that you're unique and that's a good thing. ADHD is a common thing with ASD, I recently started medication and it's changed my life so much. There's always options out there.
My 2 yr also didn’t talk until few months after. Don’t be too alarm. Now my son (3 yr old) talks like a bird. He can write alphabet, sing, draw & do sign language as well. There are lot of factors that play a role in speech delay. His pediatrician also concerned when my son didn’t talk at 2, but I wasn’t too worry. Many bilingual toddlers experience speech delay.

Wow. My daughter hasn’t been diagnosed yet, but I finally SEE her behavior clearly. I knew she was so much different than my son, but I couldn’t admit to myself what I knew it was. At the end of the day, different isn’t bad, but Im glad to finally see something familiar! I kept thinking I was crazy

Can you share with us any interventions you did? At what age did you do the intervention? Was it successful?
I remember my son who was diagnosed with Asperger’s rocked as a baby and as an older child Ed was obsessed with weather. Our school did a great job by allowing him to be their “meteorologist”. Every morning he got to give a weather report in the announcements.

Hi. Where do you go to check if your child has Asperger’s? My son who is 15 displayed so many of these symptoms since he was 1 years old. I had him evaluated at the age of 3 1/2 and they said he has Sensory Processing Disorder. ❤
I rock when anxious or upset, flap when excited, and my special interest is weather lol!
I've got 2 on the spectrum (likely, younger hasn't been diagnosed yet but it's pretty obvious).
I actually love how he is lining up the toys ❤

What a beautiful video you have made to share with all who comes across it. The tremendous amount of love you clearly have for your son, Chan-Chan, shows throughout this video and the interactions you included. I especially enjoyed your encouragement and interaction with him towards the end where he was stacking some type of square objects and getting a little frustrated. It seemed to me that your encouragement of him really helped to calm him and to obtain his goal, of stacking his objects without falling before he was finished. There is no greater love in this world than that of a mother for her child ❤️

Looks like happy busy little guy to me. He has lots of toys to keep him satisfied and Mom is very tuned in. I've never met a kid that age that doesn't have a melt down sometimes. Thank you for sharing.

He is so sweet. x3 My oldest son has Aspergers and he had some of the the same stuff as well, if in smaller degree. He has gotten support since he was 8, and he is turning 13 this year. He is such a lovely boy, having a bit social issues and sometimes he has hard time following situations, but he is very loving and smart on other things. There is bumps on the road, don't afraid looking for support and it is amazing that Chandler had had support since he was so small, that is so important! x3 He is so precious, good luck, enjoy the good days and have strength for the bad ones, no parent can do more than their best and he will grow up just fine! x3

He's adorable. My daughter loves displaying toys or lining up instead of playing too, especially When she's alone. but she also plays with them. Our pediatritian immediatly asked if the displaying prevented her from actually playing when She gave her blocks around 18months and She lined them up by color instead of stacking. She then realized She was expected to stack and did that. To this day She struggles with a super Simple game of stacking cups, as She can't figure out wich one is the biggest. She gets distracted by the fact they are different colors. She's 4and fully functional. We're all different.

I have two sons , with Asperger and they are sooo diffrent ❤ your work is so important ❤🍀❤ my boys are 17 and 20 now and living a completly " normal" life now, although the doctors told me , they never would ❤ Keep an eye on his IQ Level , my sons have both a very high IQ , above 135 , could both read and write by the age of 4. Not always but often these kids are gifted with special talents.

Very interesting Juliane. I have two boys one who was rocking, spinning, jumping and hand flaps all stopped suddenly around age 6- perfectly normal life after that now hes 32 and his baby is rocking at 8 months. My other son gifted IQ 150 walked at 8 months, fully talking in conversation at 12 months reading Tolkien age 6 did very well in school, can play any instrument good actor but struggles with every day life even now.

Same with my grandson. I noticed it and his parents were in denial. “Asperger was bad word” I intervened as much as law and parents allowed. He lived with me 12-20. When they have no diagnosis they feel odd, like there is something wrong. I got him in a private high school. He still struggled but made it. Kept hearing he’s a great student with a big heart. He has a decent job and a girlfriend now. Lives on his own. He still has so much more potential.

As an person on the autistic spectrum and involved with the autistic community, many within it find the posting of videos of children displaying there traits and meltdowns as both offensive and an invasion of a child's right to privacy. If you would like to know more about what autism is and how you can help those who are autistic, please, venture out and meet with people on the spectrum. You may feel this is informing and raising awareness but I am now raising awareness for you but from an autistic person's perspectives. To get more perspective, hire an autistic person, meet with them. Go to the places where we meet. Take the views, opinions and experiences of autism that come from autistic people with consideration.

Brings back memories of my oldest son, Seth. He wasn’t officially diagnosed until he was 6 with Asperger, back when they called it that. A very long road we have and still travel. Seth will be 31 next month. He did learn all of the things you struggle with. Toilet training, shoe tying, bike riding and car driving. Seth graduated from High School and college with a BA in Political Science and is currently getting his certification as a Paralegal. He continues to amaze me.

Good job mama! My son is 4 now, and he behaved just like yours when he was a baby. We thought it was a baby thing since most of times he is a happy child, but finally get him evaluated when he was 3.5. We have ABA, and meanwhile we are seeing a functional medicine doctor, we have changed his diet to dairy free gluten free, slowly a lot of the behaviors improved, especially the repetitive part. Diet is not a cause for ASD, but often kids on the spectrum have certain gens that makes them difficult to digest certain food or process certain nutrients if that makes sense to you. My son was a picky eater, back then he loves pastas, it was difficult to transition him to gluten free food, but when we finally did, he started to eat more fresh vegetables and fruits. He is still not a great eater till today, but I’m thankful that he is taking a great variety.

My son reacted to anything with artificial ingredients. He does not have ASD but teachers thought he had ADD. Later he was diagnosed with celiac and is gluten free now.

My son is in the spectrum. He used to love to line up his blocks, rolls of toilet paper, cars, Lego's, books. He didn't talk until he was about 2 1/2. He would say a word, then the next day, the word was gone- he wouldn't say it again. Thank God for the military health system and EDIS (Educational Developmental Intervention Services) They never diagnosed him, but they took my concerns seriously and at 22 months he was involved in therapy to stop him from hitting other kids. I had homework to do to help him. He had an IEP and a developmental preschool he attended. When he was 4 he had completed all of his IEP goals and he was no longer eligible for services. He went on through school in the Gifted and Talented Program and had several friends who were also in the spectrum. He'll be 22 in July and graduating from college with a Bachelor's in Accounting. He's been accepted into his Master's program. He has a girlfriend who is also in the spectrum

I wish so much that I would have recorded my son from the beginning. He is 14 years old and was barely diagnosed a few months ago. It was a struggle as many teachers and doctors were leaning towards ADHD. I knew it was Autism. Extensive testing and evaluation with some of the most amazing doctors finally confirmed. Very much all the same things...several more....and now as a teenager, he has adjusted to masking some stims and has created new ones. It's very true about playing with toys. We knew he never played with toys, it was more like rearranging and then monitoring them so no one destroys the setup he created for them. Everything is pretty technical for him and his voice, as well as verbal interaction, is very robotic. Life with a child with autism is a very interesting and busy one. I wouldn't trade it for anything. 💗

Why say you wouldn’t trade it for anything? Why not just say that you love your son. Surely you would trade his situation for him if you could. But you love him because he’s your son.
@@reflectionsinthebible3579 My life, my words. If that's how I feel who the hell are you to tell me I should refer to it differently or say it in a way that appeases you. Look into why that triggers you cause that's definitely a thing.
@@xochilr.buchholz I was told over and over and over....just keep advocating for your child and that's exactly what I did. Sometimes even I just gave in and accepted he would not get any help or understanding for his situation and I wouldn't have a name for all the quirky challenging things he does. It's not that no one believed or thought he had autism, it's more complicated than that...and too long a story for here. I researched the best Child Psychologist/Psychiatrist...and went above and beyond to do extensive testing on him. To this day I get compliments from specialists that we picked the best doctor to have him tested because of how thorough they were. I think that's the key.... find the best Child Psychologist/Psychiatrist office in your area and advocate from there.
I've suspected autism with my son since he was 2 or 3. He is 9 now and all I've heard is ADHD as well yet none of the meds help him. I'm so frustrated. I don't know anymore because I recently befriended a couple who has a 19 year old autistic son who is verbal and was playing with my 9 year old and I did see their son at 19 was more "child-like" if you will, than my son so...maybe I am wrong? I know it's a spectrum disorder though 🤔

Chan Chan is SO SMART and has great focus and determination! Using the other books to keep his new stack from falling over, how high and complex his block build was, being able to place the sticks in the slots without distraction ( my son would’ve chewed on the sticks or thrown them to listen to the sound of them hitting the floor ) he’s such a little blessing! I can tell he’ll be high functioning. My 4 year old son has ASD and he isn’t receiving therapy ( definitely not for lack of trying on my part ) I’m doing my own form of school and therapy until I can get him into an aba or at least some form of therapy ( speech, occupational etc ) I hope my baby will improve, not that I’m intentionally comparing my son to other children but seeing Chan Chan’s beautiful display of intelligence and problem solving gave me a little more hope that things could improve for my Tyler ❤

Great work Mummy - I love the way you interact with Chandler. 💕 He is absolutely precious. I’m a late diagnosed autistic adult and when I was growing up in the 70’s and 80’s there was very little awareness of autism. Your channel provides balanced, helpful and positive content. Well done 👏✌️😘

@@reflectionsinthebible3579 I have no support needs in some areas and medium-high support needs in others. For example, I have a tertiary education, and had a career in the public service until I burnt out at 47 and was finally diagnosed with autism. I now need quite a bit of support to cope with day to day life and am no longer able to work or function as well as I used to. Because I learnt to mask from a young age but still had real problems socially, I also ended up with CPTSD. ✌️
My gbaby is a twin he just hums. We’re waiting on official diagnosis. He is non verbal he is 2 does not speak just hums. He has separation anxiety really bad. When my daughter leaves out of his sight. His twin brother is ok. He also loves stacking and building a whole lot😢

Reminds me so much of my son who is now six. My son was diagnosed about a year ago. His speech is getting much better with the help of a pathologist but he's still speaking at the level we would have expected at the age of three. Wouldn't change him for anything though ❤

My son had speech therapy at 2. He is now 7 and still has it. He is doing great in second grade now. Please listen to you first as a mama. Speak greatness over chandler. I see it. Keep working with him and not give up.

Beautiful momma you are doing great! My son has adhd, dyslexia and now OCD. He is the sweetest and has a superior IQ. While adhd is different, there are lots of similarities and i remember all the testing like it was yesterday. He will have challenges AND exceptional traits.
ADHD people are usually high IQ and he’ll do just fine. I was told my oldest daughter was ADD (I had no idea what that was 40 years ago) and she was definitely dyslexic. For me and my daughter it was in the form of staying focused and organized. I created a system of folders to keep her work organized and hired a tutor to help her with homework. I also worked with her, EX I would say run up to my bedroom and bring the book that’s in the top drawer by my bed. She would return crying and without the item. So I would have her look straight at me in a calm manner and go through the steps one by one - where are you going - answer, upstairs, and where exactly - to your bedroom, etc,etc she would return smiling with the item, praises. We did this on a regular basis. She was always put at the back of the class throughout school. Went to University, was on the deans list for 3 years running and today is a life coach. I always said that she could do anything she put her mind to. You may be able to catch one of her few videos on YT under coachsarahkay. I think your son with some help will be just fine.

My son wouldn’t respond to his name either. He was always watching tv and eventually I noticed that he would flap his hands when his favorite show came up or when I gave him sth of his choice to eat. He also started moving from one place to another and repeated it for several time. Started to holding things. First thing I did was turn off the tv and there was zero screen time in our house. Within one or two days he started to respond to his name, within 4 weeks he stopped flapping his hands. He didn’t like to go out a lot, but now he does. Stopped going from one part of the house to the other. But I see a lot of improvements in him. A few days we bought a new tv and we thought of letting him watch his cartoons for some time. I actually allowed him to watch every day and what I noticed that flapping came back and moving around also started. This tv thing for our babies is just so dangerous. Keep your babies away from these things and let them interact with real world. Thank you
His first appointment is coming in May and he will be two years old on 20th of May. Let’s see what dr tells us about his behavior.
Thank you for sharing that! Chandler loves screen time as well but we have limited it a lot. We now let him play with a tablet so he can interact somehow and not just be a zombie while watching shows. He is so smart at getting through games and loves letters/number games. We have him spend time outdoors everyday as well and he loves chalk and is very artistic for his age! It's amazing how wide of a spectrum this is and how all these little ones are so different. Good luck at your appointment in May. It's definitely an interesting yet stressful process as well but there's so many resources online now and that's why I wanted to share our journey in hopes that it will bring some more awareness to ASD.
Is your son verbal? My niece is almost two years old and her parents allow her to watch too much tv (they even have an iPad for her). She has a very similar behavior pattern to tv stimulation. She flaps her hands, doesn't respond to her name, doesn't point, and outside of baby gibberish, she doesn't talk. She doesn't even say small words. I'm concerned that she may end up being non-verbal and co-dependent into adulthood. She went to an audiologist and her hearing is ok. I want her to get into therapy asap, but she's not my kid and her parents don't seem to be as alarmed. But back to my main question, does your son talk? If so, about how old was he when he started?
@@bxrokk my son is almost 26 months now and he's still not talking but has made a lot of progress since starting therapy services. He does sign language but he's also starting to repeat after us more and more now but it's still not true words although we know what he means since he says the same sounds for particular things. For example he'll only say the first or last part of words. His way of saying "please" is "se" and his "purple" is "puh", "bubbles" is "buh-buh" etc. His receptive communication (him being able to understand what we tell him to do and not to do) is definitely getting so much better but he still needs a lot of work on his expressive (which is pretty much him telling us what he wants).
I have friends who are in a similar situation with you and they have told me that it doesn't feel like it's their place to tell someone else's kid that they are concerned but it doesn't hurt to just raise your concerns to your niece's family to show them that you just care for her. Autism should also be screened at your niece's 2 year appointment with her pediatrician. It might just be a speech delay but there's just a lot of factors that come into play. At the end of the day, if you're worried just trust your instincts!
A well-known pediatric psychologist in my country once said that zero screen time should be allowed until the age of six, and then screen time should be limited to 15-20 mins a day, together with the parent.

@irenekassami2711 Pressure when they're upset (wrapping them in a hug or pressing on their shoulders, squeezing their torso--in a very safe, gentle but firm way of course!), headphones or ear phones to cancel a lot of sounds, chewy's (something to chew on), priming them for everything (make sure they know what's coming up in the day and have warnings for what is going to happen, you can do this verbally, use a timer or pictures), they generally love dependable routines, if you can find their language find it--writing, reading, pictures, sign language, that'll help... It's hard for some to get words out of their mouth. I had one boy who liked to talk by replaying bits of script on a movie/show or UA-cam video. Know that they're smart, they're in there, they care for you, even if they show it differently. Get them exercise! That's important it helps a lot of them regulate all the things they are thinking / feeling and helps them focus. Water play even if it's a trickle is fun and calms many too. Those are some things that help a lot of the students I work with but know that all of them don't work for everyone and I'm still learning--I don't know everything and I can be wrong! Is that what you were looking for? I hope these things help.
@@irenekassami2711 weighted blankets, vests, backpacks, tight wraps, if you/they don't want to do body pressure/hugs. Some of them hate hugs physical touch, some of them love it. Management-- know that depending on the type of kid you have and their needs it will be easier for some to manage and harder for some.

Hi! Just had baby #5 and he is so different than my other kids. Bear does EVERYTHING that your little Chandler does. Except the lining up of the toys....he is only 18 months old.....he doesn't speak any words. Not even momma...the spinning!!!!!!! He will spin anything for an hour....he loves it. I never stop the stimming, idk if it's something that's OK. I hear conflicting info...some days I'm like, "yes, bear is on the spectrum, somewhere and that's ok" other days, I'm "no, no, no....he is just developing slower, his own way. He is fine" 😢 thank you for sharing ❤❤❤

My son also has ASD he is a literal champ when it comes to video games. He NEVER “played” with toys. He always just arranged them. He’s eleven now and is one of the top gamers in the U.S.
I used to worry if my Son possibly has ASD or atleast something similar, but then I realized, regardless if he does in fact have ASD or whatever, It doesn't really matter, I wouldn't love him any less.. its more like I need to know if he's getting all the things he need in order to grow and be strong and independent someday. Im a single mom and I worry a lot. What if something happens to me or whatever, I want him to just be okay and happy always. Gosh. Im teary eyed just typing this. My son is the greatest gift ever.
And frankly whatever disorder or illness a child would have, they all deserve to be loved and cared for equally. ❤️❤️❤️
My son is in his mid 20s and never diagnosed but I have suspected he may be on the spectrum and watching this video, bringing back lots of memories of his behaviour as a young child. Even as he got older and his friends were not playing with toys anymore, he still did. I wish that we knew more back then because it was extremely stressful and distressing to never have had a diagnosis but just labelled as a difficult child. Oh well.

One thing I did with my son (who was one of triplets) was to squat down on his level and express our feelings exaggeratedly. Ex. one time he rode his tricycle wheel over my foot. It didn’t hurt but I said OW! I got down on his level and made him make eye contact with me and I’d say, “You hurt mommy. Ouchie! And I would fake crying so he could learn to associate his actions with emotional consequences.
Once, while at preschool he saw a tiny toddler fall off of a swing. He laughed heartily. He got in trouble for laughing at the little one. I tried to explain that he has his wires crossed a bit and sometimes has inappropriate reactions to actions.
He has told me (he’s 18) that my getting on his level, making eye contact and exaggerating the emotions appropriate to the situation at the time was the best thing that helped him socially as a person.
He still has a hard time interacting even with his triplet wombmates, but he’s getting better everyday.

My son had red flag now my son is perfectly normal only missing thing is eye contact but with "some" strangers . I changed him with all my efforts i worried alot i cried alot but onething I did is I never showed him anything I do play play play play play i kept the phone outside of him tv off all the time . We found that when he was 1.4yrs old now he is 3 and completely normal he speak ,he do all his things ,he responds to his name ,he'll come and ask what he wants . He does all what 3 yr old toddler does. Only onething what i suggest is don't waste a min talk with him all the time I know that's very difficult but we can do it . So pls never ever waste your time on being recording him . Ask anyone of your family to help you . Because I know that is going to be tough and make your kid to explore things outside the house . Take him out show him ever single thing you see explain him if he doesn't see your face you go down to his height sit opp to him and talk
I think it's impressive that he can stack things up that way period or the way he lined up the letters most babies can't do that.

it’s extremely valuable to put a name to symptoms and not pretend they’re a special process. comparatively, it would be like someone saying toddlers growing spurts, growing pains, or tooth aches are all behaviors that are “just their own”, “aren’t conforming”, or “rejecting programming”. when truthfully they’re part of a biological process that must be observed to assess your child’s health and comfort. there’s nothing romantic about it. idealizing autistics childrens behavior as some form of uniqueness is counter productive to offering them necessary tools. the same tools that extend autistic ppls livelihood by decreasing stress. autistic individuals that go their whole lives or most of their lives without validation or recognition for their behavior will ultimately suffer from emotional and physical neglect. it’s important to respect people’s decisions to understand themselves and their children. naming these behaviors gives these children an opportunity to grow through and alongside them. find community, and self awareness along the way so they don’t self harm or become invisible to the rest of society. autistic children are not special for their genetics. they should not be praised for their unique individuality. being that ALL humans have these characteristics of individualism, it doesn’t need to be the focal point of the value they provide by simply existing. stimming is as normal as pooping and peeing. it is not nonconformist behavior. :( stop spreading misinformation & accept the word “autism” or “neurodivergence” in to your vocabulary.

My sister was autistic and used to rock n knock her head on the floor repeatedly.
She couldn't keep up with school, but suddenly at the age of 15 (after being prayed over by an evangelist ), she could read everything including the Bible.

My son was just diagnosed a few months ago, and does everything your son does. It’s a weird relief to know other moms have experienced this and have gotten help. Other moms I knew would constantly tell me the things my son did was “normal” but, my gut was telling me something else.
Dr Oyalo herbs is really helpful, and have helped my son improve with his speech and social skill complete. My son now responds to name, his aggressive behavior has stoped completely and he now sings and says what he want.
