70's 2 Stroke Offroad Go Kart Finally Gets Paint! | 79 Odyssey FL250 Build Part 3

- In this video our Ody gets to looking as good as it did in 1979!
In order to make the odyssey have a powder coat like finish on its frame, we decided to go with POR-15 for the main way to paint the frame on this kart. This buggy needed a lot of clean up, disassembly, and prep in order to get it ready for its new paint job. After that we just applied the POR-15 with some paintbrushes and after a few coats it was looking great! After that we spray painted parts of the roll cage and front bash bar in order to give it a contrasting look and follow the visual cues of a second gen ody. Another huge task was restoring the 70's split rims and getting them coated in some oem gold metallic. The utv is coming along really well and we are really excited to restore the plastics on this thing and get her running!

when i was a kid we put the light in the role cage in the middle inside the cage above your head and it worked really good to light stuff up and protect it

I would suggest as Rusty as your rooms look to pull them back off of the tires and take the poor 15 and use it on the inside of the rim and let it dry at least two coats wheel seal and protect it forever

Don’t wear shorts when using the wired brush thing because wires can fly out and get stuck in the skin and it sucks

deejaaa1 it’s rare for metal particles to fly out while welding and I’m saying very rare but still just in case wear socks you don’t need boots and stuff flying out is rare but you would rather burn your sock and your foot a tiny bit then get a 2nd degree burn and probably go to the er if the particle is big enough.
Nice work fellas. She's coming together. A mate of mine has an odyssey and we're thinking of restoring her back to new.

and the surface needs prep. pretty sure it's "paint over rust" and not any other paint.

Por15 works pretty good, used it on a old Merc years ago, it sticks real good, including like a mofo to your skin, get it on you and you wear it a while. I'm not positive but I think they have a satin gloss available now too for replicating old car stuff, the gloss was a little much in the mercury.

Por15 isn't UV stable. You need a UV stable top coat for it.
