  • In this video the FL250 build is finally starting. A center-point of this 2-stroke off road go kart is this engine, so we are super eager to work on it and finally get it running. We built this motor from the ground up, including new crank bearings and seals, new crank bearings, and a new piston with a bored out cylinder. This Ody is a 1979 FL250 and we are super excited to continue and finish the restoration!
    Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe for the rest of the build!

    Great video guys. Great Job on the engine rebuild. A little tip when you are doing bearings like you did on this engine a trick I used to do when I was racing boats is put the bearing in the freezer like you did but instead of using a torch on the case put the case in the oven or a gas grill heat it up to around 350 to 400 degrees then put the bearing in. that way the case is evenly heated when done properly this way the bearing will literally drop in no pressing or driving the bearing in. Have a great week. God Bless!!!

      nashguy207 I’ve heard of using an oven but a bbq grill seems like a damn good idea lol. Totally do that next time.

    • @nashguy207
      @nashguy207 6 років тому +1

      when using a bbq grill i just light half of it and put the case on the that is not lit.

      nashguy207 ok yeah, because my parents would never let us put car parts in our oven lol, but the grill would be clear haha

    Thanks for watching guys and Happy Memorial Day! Turns out our odyssey is from 1979 and not 1983 like the previous owner thought so it's a 1st gen which is really cool. We were able to find out from the vin number so we’re going to restore it as if it was a first gen so be sure to stay tuned for that!

      Build Break Repeat just saying you shoudnt shove a screwdrive inbetween the cases like that because itll ruin the sealing surfaces and you dont have a good seal

    2nd spark plug hole is for a compression release. Good luck with your build. Hope you don't regret not replacing the rod bearing.

      @BuildBreakRepeat  6 років тому +1

      Clint Wood Yeah.....it should be ok, looked perfect at least 🤞🏻, thanks for letting us know about the compression release I’m probably going to order one from an Elsinore because it’s pretty hard to crank over right now with it being bored out and stuff.

    Man I love what you guys are doing this is going to be a great build I can see it you guys did a really good job on the motor the only thing I would've done is had a new crank pressed on it is a very crucial part in a two-stroke

    Just food for thought. You should have put assembly Lube on that connecting rod pin that connects the piston to the rod. Just for future reference. Plus you didn't put any oil on the head bolts and you were just talking about it. But looking good guys

    Before you go to the heat next time try this: Soak like you did then tighten that jack-bolt as tight a possible.
    Grab a 2-3 lb metal dead-blow hammer and give the jack-bolt head a couple of good, square, robust wacks.
    99% of the time that will do the trick. Heat can ruin any shaft seals on that motor and air-tight crankcase is a must.

    What size piston did you get? I have an 83 I just started working on it today thanks to you guys! And I took apart the engine and I’m going to have to bore the cylinder as well due to corrosion but I’m not sure what size piston I should get

  • @aaronblair9583
    @aaronblair9583 6 років тому

    GAP THE PISTON RINGS! There not gapped at the factory, dont want em to catch on a port.

    • @sepedius
      @sepedius 6 років тому

      Aaron Blair in 2-strokes you cant put them wrong. Rings cant spin freely because there are little stoppers.

    • @aaronblair9583
      @aaronblair9583 6 років тому +1

      im not speaking of the little pegs the orient the ring. the ends(gap) of the ring need to be filed so that it has the correct radius when the engine is hot. if the ring isnt gapped, when it becomes hot it will expand into the ports and catch, which can ruin the jug. its usually done by putting the ring into the cylinder without the piston and measuring the gap with a feeler gauge.

    If I wasn't going to replace the rod bearing ( I would of though because it most important) make sure you get all,all,all,all the sand out of the motor! You said it was open. Any sand left in the case will ruin the engine in no time at all! I had an 84 250r engine looks pretty much same same!
