Thank you for this video! We have been looking into some aviary options and stumbled on your video. We plan on getting something like this for outdoor time. We live in a warmer climate and Buster loves being outside. I never thought about this as an indoor option. When we move later this year we will be doing the same for his indoor cage. Again, Thanks!!

Mommy Human wanted you to know that the holes in the kennel that we listed in the description are 1x2, so that may be to big for your feathered kids; however, a remedy could be to use window screening material along the outside.

Has there been any issue with the type of cage wiring? Most bird people say it's not stainless steel, so it's not safe. Can you provide any feed back?
My African grey would bend the wires and pop the welds on the dog runs within minutes; I did check them out as an option at one time. Her cages are (commercial) macaw cage because she needs such sturdy bars (she has a different main cage than the ones in her old videos, but it's similar). But African greys are known for trying to do that kind of thing. Their beak strength isn't anywhere near a macaws, but maybe the macaws are less likely to try? ChuChu seems to think it's a challenge. Hahaha.

So, I love the idea, however... those macaw beaks I feel like would be able to snap through that wiring prettttty quick if they wanted. Have you guys encouraged this issue at all?

We had the same concern(s) initially; however, we have found that they are unable to damage it. It looks like a thin gauge, but it is surprisingly sturdy. We are getting ready to film a follow up and will be sure to get some close up shots to demonstrate.

I think you're gonna be in for a surprise when they begin bending the wire bars, which seem of an impossibly small gauge.
Otherwise, simple and aesthetically pleasing.

Love the cage idea. I wanted to do it also for my macaw, but wouldnt the coating on the bars peel off ? And isnt the metal toxic to the bird?
Zinc is toxic to birds and this is powder coated paint so it’s pretty durable ! I have them for my dogs and been out side in the sun for ages and holding up strong
I would love to do this but I’m concerned about bar spacing and strength can you put my mind at ease? haha!

Thank you for the question. We are filming a follow up to the build. We are going to get some close up shots to demonstrate the bar strength and spacing. We have had no issues, but it was a major concern for us in the beginning.

I found something similar for my bird very big and nice but the gaps are like yours and I’m concern that mice get through t the holes to the cage, is something that could happend?
Mice could get through the tiniest little crack so I wouldn’t make that a concern. They can fit through at least a quarter inch or less.

Theres a few decent options, sometimes you can get a polycarbonate sheet in custom sizes for pretty cheap, else, you could use a finished wood panel and affix that. Theres options

Are the bars spaced close enough together to contain adult Marmoset monkeys?
Janice - I want to say yes if they are not too young. My concern would be the locking mechanism for the door. It would need a major upgrade in order to properly contain them.

Does the ball have a bell in the inner ball, mine love his one, it’s all chewed up because he spends so much time trying to get the ball in the middle..I’m thinking about filming my new aviary build and bird room renovation, I’ve only been uploading TikTok clips on UA-cam so far, ..anyone who loves seeing a harlequin macaw live and love life as a free flight trained macaw pop over n help me with subscriber numbers . Its a pity you didn’t film whole thing while doing it…I couldn’t use zip ties , I do use them in toys because my macaw loves to kill them….love your set up. I keep mine cageless but everything else needs to be in a cage, eg there heater lights etc..

Wonderfull cage. Do you have you're own house or live in apartment? I heard they make much noise in apartment.
Ismali - Thank you! We own a home. They can at times be loud; however, we have raised them since they were very young and discouraged the behavior early on. With proper sound barriers and training I think it is possible to a macaw in an apartment. I hope this helps!

@@OurHumans manny thanks. I ask because you are the owner and know better. I compare their scream with a baby. You know let us say, in 4-5 am if they begin to scream. My neighbors will probably be angry i think. When they scream how manny minutes it's it? Is it about a specific time?
@@ismailtoprakci9593 Ismail - Chester & Ares tend to get loud about 5 minutes before their feeding time (0900 & 1800). They rarely have fits, but when they do it may last from 1-3 minutes. If they do start, the best way to diffuse things is to take them out and give them some love. They are very social creatures.
From our experience they are unlikely to make noise in the early mornings. This is especially true if they are kept in the dark or covered, which is also very important to keeping a healthy macaw.

This isn’t an aviary…..period. This is just a glorified cage. Way to small to be considered an aviary for these birds.
