  • Today is the first day I'm putting the birds in the new home aviary. I've constructed a DIY aviary built for macaws and my other birds. Homemade aviary built DiY style.

    my macaw is free flight trained so gets a lot of time out sitting in trees way up high but I'm going to give building my own aviary a go, he cant free fly at my house there's lots of seagulls so a flight beside the bird room will work perfect for all my birds, that's fantastic..

    You could put a solid wood tall beam in the center to the ceiling to support it all-*so you can nail wooden perches all up along it to the ceiling for them to perch up high, just a suggestion. 🥰

    • @briananuvattanachai6646
      @briananuvattanachai6646 3 роки тому +1

      A telephone pole(untreated of course) I would just drill holes in it to put the perches in it.

    • @grassrootsgardening
      @grassrootsgardening  3 роки тому +1

      Great ideas! I’m just worried it’ll rot and the roof collapse. I plan to add metal studs to the actual pole so i can exchange wooden perches as needed. Thanks for commenting....i really appreciate it!

      @@grassrootsgardening I'm not sure if this would work or not. But, to make the metal pole look more like wood could you put like cemet or something over it then put a bunch of grooves, knots, etc into the cemet. To make it look like a tree after paint it over with a birdsafe paint?

    • @blessed7fold583
      @blessed7fold583 3 роки тому

      Companies that make real live looking trees that every leaf looks real & are very sturdy are great for clipping off the branches to stick into holes in the pole you can drill? to add a real affect around the perches & are already waterproof & built to last. I have a huge tree like that that if I had small birds to enjoy it they'd love it! Branches could be cut off to decorate the pole fir a tropical look. 😊

    It's nice to see an update on the aviary, it looks great!! I wanted to build something like this when I get older. The way you built the roof is really amazing. I am just having trouble with the idea of a slanted with, and using square tubing. Just building the aviary itself seems pretty self explanatory. But, once you account for the slanted roof, and other things it gets a bit more complicated.

      @@grassrootsgardening is that metal pole you are going to use as the center support column necessary because of the size of the aviary, and the weight of the wire? It isn't necessarily if your aviary is much smaller correct? Like it's say a 12'x8'x8'. At what point would it become necessary?

    • @grassrootsgardening
      @grassrootsgardening  3 роки тому +1

      @@briananuvattanachai6646 thats a great question. But I’m no engineer and couldn’t say for sure. Mine is 20x30 and thats a lot of weight given the height. Since mine is so tall it wanted to pus-out on the top perimeter ring. If you didnt go too tall with your mentioned dimensions i think you’d be ok bud.
