5:58 "there's no one who sounds like him " ........ "Heaven sent hell away no one, sings like you anymore..." Blackhole sun
Please don't talk about Chris' voice, you're just making me cry. His loss is such a tragedy and I still am not over it. :-( But of course, thanks for doing this, as always, I love your insights.
Superunknown was an incredibly impactful album in my life when i bought the cd on its release in 1994. It's probably the most played album I've ever had. Thanks for the great post mate.
Chris' incredibly tragic death is a loss to us all. I couldn't believe it when i read about it. Rip Mr Cornell. Your magic is missed.
This is the only song from Soundgarden I ever learned to play on a bass guitar. The punch/jam, Timing changes, this was the only song. Everything else was amazing vocals, amazing guitars..... this one showcased everything through minimal sound and more the intelligence.
Please do a video on “Burden in my Hand” by Soundgarden. One of my all time favorite Soundgarden songs. This is a great video by the way!
Definitely, this one is awesome!
SG one of the all time greats...without question. Glad you are truly appreciating the unbelievable talent w them. Each one great on their own...but when they get all together as SG...its at another level w true cohesion and respect for each others abilities and talents. To boot..they were not an ensemble of a supergroup
..it was all organic...which makes it even more awesome...much like the Beatles or Zep.
This is hands down my favorite SG song have never seen anyone review it before.
One of my favorite songs of all time.
100%
This song has been stuck in my head for weeks. I sing it all the time. Specifically one part. As a songwriter considering the subject material, I love the end of the chorus when he sings "I tried to live". Ascending vocals with descending guitars. Very smart songwriting. RIP Chris.
Some of his audioslave stuff is really good too. Cornell mixed well with that rage against the machine sound.
I love them
I enjoyed this video so much. Your observations are priceless and I love your passion for what you were hearing. Would love more Soundgarden reactions on your channel! Thanks for posting this.
Probably in my top 3 SG songs of all time..
Love and miss you Chris..💙🙏
Good call on the unique snare drum. Never noticed it.
I miss soundgarden
Chris Cornell writes almost all the music
...wrote. RIP Chris Cornell
Loved this thoughtful reaction to such a great song. I still can't believe Chris is gone.
Awesome review!!!
I liked your view on the breakdown....Soundgarden always plays within their songs. ..its like they perfectly craft atmospheres...
Michael "Baked" Beinhorn did his thing with this album!! I've heard Soundgarden members had issues with him during the recording and kinda downplay his role, but that brother Baked Bein got busy!!
One of the greatest albums of all time.
You have songs like Fresh Tendrils,4th Of July, Limo Wreck....Mailman, Like Suicode, Let Me Drown, Head Down etc etc....and that's not even mentioning the 5 radio hits...The epitome of heavy rock
And as far as Cornell.....The OG had the greatest voice of all time.
When he sang it went straight to your inner being. He was on a whole other level.
Add to that his unbelievable song writing ability...the INCREDIBLE discography....his guitar playing...He was originally a great drummer....A pioneer of the grunge scene (aka the Big Dog)..his influence...His versatiloty....soul...true to self artist...etc etc....fuggedaboudit....
That brother is the G.O.A.T
Watch the Beinhorn interview on Produce Like A Pro dude: STELLAR
This is my all time favorite Soundgarden song!!!!
Every time I listen to this song it gives me instant chills when his vocals come in at the beginning with the drums and bass. You brought up a really good point at 10:30 with the simple memorable melody for the chorus. The way I absorb this song is how it is that complex arrangement (like the complexities of life) topped off with the hook melody (having to try to live through that complex struggle) that constantly drives to the end of the track. And I think that arrangement emphasizes the lyrics perfectly. The entire album is a true masterpiece in songwriting and this song completely shows that. Songs like this will stick with you forever and will never age.
FYI "I am better than you..." Haha...love the Pop-ups!!
I love that you reacted to this song. Chris is my GUY! No bigger loss in music to me. I love this song because the sounds are all over the place, yet fit perfectly. I try to explain this to people & they don't get me. I feel like you understand what I'm saying here. There's a bunch of musical shit going on & it works! All of his lyrics are written from his internal pain, listen to ANYTHING he did. Like Suicide (acoustic version is a TREAT) is a dang masterpiece. And those vocals. LAWD I miss him! Thanks man! I like your reactions! OK, I'll shut up now.
Top 5 90’s album for me...just awesome!
Ian Thornley is pretty damn close to Chris as far as vocals. He's not Chris. Doesn't have the same range, but that paint pealing power and soul is there. He's also probably one of the best living guitar players and songwriters. Check him out. His band is called Big Wreck.
One-in-a-billion voice- he was able to convey so much emotion so effortlessly. Gone way too soon but he left us with some amazing music.
This song has always been very intriguing to me, especially going through the downs in the "ups and downs" of life. Very complex!
Dude, great call about finding the notes you hear on instrument. Super importate
Some insightful reactions. I would highly suggest the Sound Garden live performance of “Rusty Cage” in the SiriusXM studio.
RiP CC...Noone sings like you anymore! 🖤🖤
No one ever did. I love his voice
David: "Don't put that in"
Howie: *puts it in 😂
He puts all the gross behind the scenes stuff in...and makes it louder! Keeps me humble
@@MusicShed just know that, it's going in, no matter what you say 😂
Still love your videos 😎
This is the first of your videos I’ve seen, and I subscribed immediately! I LOVE how you break the song down and discuss so many aspects of its design and meaning. You’re fantastic!
This was (I think), the second album I bought myself. I forgot how good this is. Thanks for this!
Good reaction video, learned some stuff.
Love your commentary and just subscribed! I know I'm just another random commentor... but I have some suggestions:
Bloc Party - Helicopter
Rise Against - Black Market
Army of Anyone - Goodbye
Thanks for your consideration and keep up the good work!!
Great explanations and comments on this great song of legendary band!
Great job man!
Soundgarden my all time favorite band. I recommend you check out the first Audioslave album too. It is also unbelievable!
Sounded like John Carpenter's Halloween theme again around 15:45 and at end a little. I know you're a big fan . Love them and Audioslave
Soundgarden used to make up their own tunings at times. This one is tuned (low to high) E-E-B-B-B-B
This is beautiful. 🖤 Always loved the knowledge you share to us, sir David.
Perhaps an Alice in Chains MTV unplugged reaction next? 🥺🥺🥺
Okay, well, now I need some Smashing Pumpkins *but!* particularly if it's immediately juxtaposed with Sarah McLachlan's Angel -- which was written about Jonathon Melvoin (the keyboardist) after his overdose, as a song ABOUT escaping into heroin for relief. Not... what other people think that song's about lol. But thattt would be a really fascinating musical mash-up analysis! But purposeful. Good reason for a genre hop!
I'll second the recommendation of Hexes by TesseracT. They have a very talented vocalist, with a similar range and effortlessly clean timbre to Tilian from Dance Gavin Dance. On top of that they have a great sense of groove and mood/atmosphere compared to most metal bands. Lots of very cool bass driven tracks and excellent drumming to boot.
Amazing video and love the band so much. You should 100% look at the new ‘Architects’ album, i would recommend ‘impermanence’ as a song to listen to. It’s an incredible album called “For those who wish to exist”
Kim Thayil!
Check out Hail the Sun: Half-Glass Empty :)
You should react to Kaizers Orchestra, it is a Norwegian band who plays their very own style of aleternative rock, and I think you would enjoy it.
Soundgarden's Superunknown was my original favorite album in the whole wide world :)
There is a new thing called Sion with their single The Blade :) you would love that.
Also your take on ERRA for example their Divisionary.
And yes... I think Architects has been recommended quite a few times already :)
I just watched the breakdown of Black Hole Sun on Produce Like A Pros YT channel, with the producer Michael Beinhorn... AMAZING!
Realised you've done couple of things by Architects :) Nice.
Anyway - talking about amazing and unique voices such as Chris. Sion (first single The Blade) is a project where the singer is Howard Jones of Killswitch Engage fame who is... Well one reaction said that he can command an army with his voice and that's best said. Killswitch Engage did a fantastic cover (hilarious video) of Dio's Holy Diver.
How about some Audioslave! My Pops can belt some Audioslave.
You should give Shakey Graves- Roll the Bones. The audio tree live session is crazy, dude is a one man band!
Check out the Arkells!!
What time signature is this song in?
Soundgarden: Yes.
Superunknown was the first CD I ever bought myself. RIP Chris. 😭
What’s a CD?
I'm dating myself. 😂
Highly recommend taking a look into ‘Hexes’ by tesseract.
This song would have - not have, with this guy included.
You should definitely react to the past should stay dead by emarosa! Love the videos!
If you really want to hear Chris wailing, try listening to Black Rain(live) and Beyond the Wheel.
I've never heard Chris sing like he does on those two songs. Both are Soundgarden and try to find live versions of both. You won't believe your ears my friend. 👍🏻😁🔥🔥🔥
A Little Piece of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold
Would be epic to hear and see your thoughts on that!
Found your channel this week and I've been loving it. I'd love to see what you think of The Dillinger Escape Plan. Check our "Farewell Mona Lisa" and if you do, after you finish it, listen to the first 4 guitar chords at the beginning again.
Try with Soundgarden - Slaves and Bulldozers
Is that where Apollo 440 got their name (when you mentioned that your piano's tune was A 440)?
I'd say Richie Kotzen is somewhat close to Cornell's voice timbre.
🕯🤍🕊🤍🕯RIP Chris. #InfiniteLoudLove #NoOneSingsLikeYouAnymore
David, please react to other Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog & his solo stuff. ❤❤❤
D o you know what this song is about? That's what warrants the intensity lyrically
What the hell does one listen to after this dark, able piece?
Hunger strike by temple of the dog. Beautifully powerful voices from both Chris cornell and eddie vedder. Check it out if you haven't.
Also audioslave like a stone
Chris is playing lead guitar Einstein
👍👍
Same for Layne Staley. AIC
Where We Go When We Die - Thornhill
Try something off his solo album, Euphoria Morning. Maybe, Pillow of Your Bones.
Oh... almost forgot... the drummer for Soundgarden was the same drummer in Pearl Jam - Matt Cameron
I’m not a huge fan of PJ, very interesting. I love MC’s playing
You should do some Linkin Park
There's an interview with the producer about the making of this album I think divided up into songs that's fantastic. Produce Like a Pro UA-cam channel...
Thank you! Will watch that for sure
Found it, LOVE IT... so inspiring and educational. Thank you 🙏
@@MusicShed Always fun to watch Beinhorn shaking his head when relating the fact that Cornell fried 5 Neumann U87s recording his vocals for this album. Having seen him live, I can confirm he could *shift air* when he let rip! #NoOneSingsLikeHimAnymore
@@badm0t0rf1nger Again ...tears
It's super abstract
Buddy, dude - you're a blast. How about some R U S H ! Xanadu live from Exit Stage Left pretty please. You will love it (I think).
I really think you should react to a band called "disperse" fusionny progy with metal and djent influence, band from poland.. With what ive seen you like and appreciate i know you'll be really inspired.. Plz checkem out..
"Enigma of abode" or " let me get my colours back"
no he needs to just react to every single album created by chris cornell he is a universe tht sucks u into this hole of a differect perspective of life tht you never wanna leave
I'm just sitting here waiting for someone to say that Johnny Strong, the lead singer from the band "Operator", has the same voice as Chris Cornell.
They (Operator) sound like Velvet Revolver with Chris Cornell on vocals.
I will listen and get back to you McN
Listening now, I dig! He is definitely a Chris Cornell disciple. Very cool, thank you for that comment.
Say what??? I m going to check on them , if you are right i will kis you i love both of those bands.
Cool I’m definitely going to check them!! I was going to suggest Ian Thornley from Big Wreck as another really under rated but amazing CC sound-a-like who is worth a listen!!
No one is Chris though 🥺
It's a pipe. See Beinhorn.
Ian Thornley. The only comparison.
Should react to linkin park- given up live aol music session
I'm a taxi driver. The day I heard Chris killed himself was one of the saddest days of my life. For real. He spoke my feelings, it's so sad that he killed himself. I understand, LIFE SUCKS, but you cannot make that decision, because you are going to ruin so many lives
I’m so sad that he’s gone. Every time I hear him… what a gift he gave us
B to EE
Your jumping mid verse fr BB to EE
12:23 Soundgarden were one of the formative "grunge" bands. They formed in 1984. They didn't become grunge with this album. In fact they were moving away from that sound to become more commercial.
Look at dropped D or some such.
1994 was also the year Kurt Cobain died
From the first time i heard i heard SG more than 20 years ago i got immediately hooked to their sound. They were a very unique awesome rock band, Superunknown album is my fav SG album , the best rock album of the 90's and one of all time great. Chris death had a big impact on me, i stopped, literally lost interest on rock scene!!
I’d say Dirt is my top Album but SU is right behind it for me, SG is such an amazing band and I think they’re at least in the top 5 best bands along with their brothers AIC
''1994 was a epic year'' Kurt cobain died... Yeah that was so epic. Dude wtf like did you forget.
Yes, I did
Man do yourself a favor and put Superunknown uninterrupted. It rules!
Yes
Check out slaves and bulldozers
No one sings like you anymore.
Lots of broken strings trying to tune to their songs. This into is a particularly weird tuning
Oh come on, stop interrupting the video so often.
But I like to
Too many stops buddy
