Great chat, chaps! What a great two partner. I think Richard Wilson was a great choice and it broke him away from just being seen as Victor for so many years. That girl who played Nancy was marvellous and it is a shame she seems to have opted for a non acting life now - but as long as she is happy! Some lovely set pieces and I can imagine some smaller children being terrified of the gas mask child! Really iconic. The "Are you my Mummy" is always chilling - it's especially creepy when it breaks it's way out of Algy's mouth (and Richard Wilson's Doctor too). Look forward to the finale!!
@@p-bal Indeed! It was the moment where I was 100% on board with New Who. It felt like a template for the best of both worlds. Sadly, Ecclestone would go & I felt that for series 2 not only had they not taken this as a benchmark to aim for, they amped up the stuff I was less keen on & doubled down on the more magical/out of nowhere resolutions. Still, things picked up for me somewhat over series 3 & 4 and then Moffatt had his own go at it with... variable results!
@@p-bal oh dear… I think I was at the event in question. I remember her being very nice and approachable. Maybe one day especially given your track record she will consider attending an event again. A reunion with Albert Valentine would be good !
I think the reason Moffat writes better when he's not in charge is because he's not trying to fit everything into some massive timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly universe-shattering plotline that changes everything but actually doesn't change anything because it never comes together and we forget all about it by next year.
Unlike some people, I always appreciate James' fun facts. The dark web has served us well today, my friends! Jason is on coke? That explains a lot... This is the first episode that made me truly fall in love with DW. It's still the high point of the show for me until my all time favourite "Midnight" in season 4. 10/10 from me.
I actually marked this story exactly the same as James. On IMDB my scores were 10 & 9,but I wouldn't give it 9.5. Partly because I don't like fractions, and also because I think like most Eccleston stories I don't have a lot of desire to watch them again. Plus,EastEnders style BBC production of a "EastEnd" family. Still a 9 though 😉

PBal looks nice in a big white jumper
I thought the cliffhanger resolution was fantastic (to coin a phrase) and showcases the Doctor's ability to think his way out of a situation
Also, how sad is the reaction of everyone being a hurt little boy?

Also, I love the Doctor’s relief that his plan succeeded and how he mentions that “those would’ve been rubbish last words!”
Looking forward to this one.
Another great review and thoroughly enjoying these. Any chance of getting Florence Heath to a signing or event ?
Florence had a bad experience with an organiser who didn't pay anyone for a Cardiff event, which seems to have put her off. Maybe one day though!

Sadly aother episode tarnished by the behaviour of a cast member
What has Richard Wilson done?
@@matejadjedovicYou wouldn’t BELIEVE it!!! 😜
